Described by critics as "one of our strongest thriller writers on the scene," author Kenneth Eade, best known for his legal and political thrillers, practiced law for 30 years before publishing his first novel, "An Involuntary Spy." Eade, an up and coming author in the legal thriller and courtroom drama genre, has been described by critics as "One of our strongest thriller writers on the scene and the fact that he draws his stories from the contemporary philosophical landscape is very much to his credit." He is often compared to John Grisham, whom many regard as the master of the legal thriller.

Says Eade of the comparisons, "Readers compare me in style to John Grisham and, although there are some similarities, because John also likes to craft a story around real topics and we are both lawyers, all of my novels are rooted in reality, not fantasy. I use fictional characters and situations to express factual and conceptual issues. Some use the term 'faction' to describe this style, and it is present in all my fictional works."

Eade has written twenty novels, which are now in the process of being translated into ten languages. He is known to keep in touch with his readers, offering free books and discounts to all those who sign up at his web site, www.kennetheade.com.

What a neighborhood.

Another wonderful story from Kenneth Eade. Those people transfer their rights to the neighborhood control must read this. For me the beginning gave away the ending. Also Kindle was mentioned, next time Jack should remember to take the charger with him. Hope FBI won't transfer Angela some where else. Why wasn't the medical bills of her husband's illness put her behind wasn't brought up in the questioning? Also everyone was saying she was home all day, but she was driving home at the beginning? Calico is one lucky cat. Can't wait for the next book.

??? I hate HOAs, love a good legal drama and Grisham is a favorite, so this seemed to be the ideal summer read for me. Honestly, I do NOT understand all the good reviews! There was nothing "fast paced" or "action-packed" about this book. It took FOREVER to get the story rolling and I only finished it because I didn't want to disturb the kitten sleeping on me and nothing else was within reach. Whoever wrote the review calling it an "edge-of-your-seat legal thriller" apparently didn't read the same book I did. The writing was so shallow and the story line, while it had a bit of potential, didn't have nearly enough depth to it to rescue this novel. If it was written by a high school student, I could understand. But to find out it was written by a best selling author leaves me completely flabbergasted. Lesson learned: always have TWO options within reach so I don't get stuck with another dud like this.

Brent Marks thought this case was going to be simple-stopping an illegal foreclosure process. But that case takes a turn when the president of the Orange Grove HOA is murdered and his client is high on the suspect list.
Barbara was the type of person that didn't have many friends, and being the president of the HOA didn't help. She loved nothing more than enforcing the rules no matter how minor they were. She had many enemies, so the suspect list is very long. Will Marks be able to find the truth?

Kenneth Eade is full of talent, and HOA Wire is a great example of it. He manages to make technical law jargon make sense, keep track of a wide cast of characters, and write a story that keeps you entertained and guessing until the end all in the same book.
Once you start reading HOA Wire you are drawn into the story. A story full of intrigue, plots, and lies. And, of course, murder. It is a crime novel, a mystery, a courtroom drama, and so much more wrapped up in one, and it is done beautifully.
There is a long list of suspects that Marks has to wade through to find out who killed Barbara and exonerate his client. It could've easily become confusing or muddled with that much going on, buy it never does. It also would've been very easy for Eade to phone it in when it came to the development of that many characters. Thankfully he didn't take the easy way out-he took the time to make sure they were all developed and all their own people, and that really takes this already amazing book to the next level.
Eade makes you feel like you are part of the story. You see it all so clearly as you read it feels more like you are following them around instead of reading about them.
Basically the most important thing you need to know about HOA Wire is this: it is a great book by a great author. You are completely sucked into the story and on the edge of your seat until the end. Already ready for more Brent Marks. And Kenneth Eade as well of course!

There is big a difference between crime and detective novels and courtroom dramas. In one, the action takes place on the streets; and in the other, the main story takes place in the courtroom. HOA Wire represents the latter, and will appeal to fans of Grisham and any other writer who spins a solid yarn based on courtroom drama and realistic experiences.

While it's Book Three in the Brent Marks legal thriller series, newcomers will find it quickly accessible. It revolves around the murder of a homeowner's association president, where lawyer Brent Marks finds himself standing square in the center of a maelstrom of puzzles in which every town resident is a potential suspect and no easy answers are apparent.

Readers aren't bludgeoned over the head with clues that are obvious leads, and they aren't teased by the presence of a protagonist who might know the answers, either. Brent Marks is well-educated and trained, but is just as puzzled as readers - and it's his process of discovery that succeeds in creating an involving story of just how a crime is solved.

The obvious prerequisite for enjoying this approach is affection for courtroom dramas, because this is the centerpiece, here. Readers with such an interest will find HOA Wire successfully weaves crime and courtroom to such a degree that the unexpected conclusion comes as both a successful, logical outcome and as a real surprise. With its real insights on HOA processes and neighbor disputes, HOA Wire is a deft exploration of attorney-client ethics on the line, and is crime/courtroom writing at its best.

Is the client Brent defending guilty or innocent? That is the big question. There are ample suspects in the case of the Orange Grove Homeowners Association murder; actually, it could be anyone living there. Brent is being torn between moral principles, ethics and his integrity. The courtroom spectacle blows up, while the adventure outside the courtroom goes haywire. If only this was a routine foreclose like Brent thought he was dealing with―sorry to say, not so. Once again Kenneth Eade’s has down a fabulous job of creating a controversial, mind opening, political thriller. His captivating plot held my interest throughout the whole story. His writing style is fast paced, up to date and relevant to current issues of the problems in our country at present. This is book 3 in the Brent Marks series. High five to Kenneth for a riveting read.

Great read. Fast paced. Keeps you guessing until the very end. If you have ever been a member of a Home Owners Association you will certainly emphthize with the characters.
Barbara is the stereotypical HOA president a very small person with a little power. Some has had enough and decides they are better off with Barbara dead. The only suspects are every member of the HOA. The author does a great job of keeping the action going, while adding realistic courtroom scenes.
Highly recommend this one!

I found the premise of this story very interesting. However I was continually distracted by grammatical errors i.e., during courtroom proceedings the prosecutor was referred to as Dr. at which point I had to stop and verify who in fact the author was referring to. Although I did not edit the entire book, it cropped enough to be annoying. Also, the story was a quick-write instead of embellishing and rounding out the story. All in all, I enjoyed this book.

FULL REVIEW FROM TOP BOOKS WORTH READING

If you’re a huge fan of legal and political thrillers with a lot of courtroom drama, then you will love Kenneth Eade’s newest novel in the “Brent Marks Legal Thriller Series”, “HOA Wire”. Critics and reviewers have said that Kenneth Eade is the next John Grisham, as his books reminded them of the bestselling author’s first crime novels. It’s quite obvious that Kenneth Eade is on the right path to success. He’s amazing when it comes to writing complex, intriguing stories, and creating relatable characters readers can easily root for. He is a master of suspense, unexpected twists, and surprising endings.

“HOA Wire” follows lawyer Brent Marks as he gets involved in a murder case without even realizing it. When his client contacts him the first time, he is absolutely sure he’s going to deal with a routine foreclosure defense. The problem is that the president of the Orange Grove Homeowners Association was murdered, and everyone who lives in Orange Grove is a possible suspect, including Brent’s client. When she is accused of killing the HOA president, the lawyer understands he’s got himself into a terrible mess. He doesn’t even know if his client is innocent or guilty. He needs to make the right decision, but that is impossible until he knows for sure who the real murderer is. Courtroom drama explodes, but things are even more chaotic outside of the courtroom.

Readers will love Brent Marks, who is a well-developed, believable character. His work is strongly based on ethics and morality, so he is determined to find out the truth and solve the case as fairly as possible. He’s not going to allow his feelings and emotions to influence his actions. Readers have already met Brent Marks in Kenneth Eade’s previous novels, “A Patriot’s Act” and “Predatory Kill”, so they know his methods. Through the conflict he creates, the author invites his readers to try and solve the puzzle together with Brent Marks. However, some of the clues might be misleading, and there are some completely unexpected twists that will confuse the good guys even more.

“HOA Wire” is a fast-paced, suspenseful legal thriller that will remind fans of the genre of pulp thrillers. Crime, betrayal, thought-provoking questions related to ethics and morality – this novel has everything it needs to become a must-read for any lover of true crime literature. The conclusion to Brent Marks’ adventure will take readers by surprise and make them look forward to the next book in the series.

“HOA Wire” will be released on February 28, 2015, and is currently available for pre-order on Amazon.

I received the book for free through Goodreads Giveaways.

I’m not certain if I liked the book or not. I mean it wasn’t a bad read, but it really wasn’t what I would call a good read. It was slow moving and quite predictable. It was an easy read though-I did read it in a couple of evenings while listening to a tv program. Some of the book was unbelievable. Again this was a book that made the police appear to not be doing their jobs correctly (I am getting tired of those). The legal arguments were good, but the whole court case just never should have happened. It was very flat. I didn’t like many of the characters-well I’m not certain if I liked them-they were not developed.
Overall an ok read but I would not list it as a legal thriller.

HOA and Murder

This is another great book. The President of the HOA was murdered. Unfortunately, she was not well liked and there are many suspects.

A neighbor ends up being framed. It is up to Brett Marks to represent her and find out who the killer is.

I liked the premise of this book, anyone who belongs to a HOA will too. I liked this one better than some of his other books. Plot was simple but kept reading to see if I guessed right. I did. Diverting read.

While it was fun reading a courtroom drama, this book was crammed full of errors that distracted from the flow of the writing. Fortunately, it was short -- I read it in one day.

Very early in the book, there is a murder, and it looks like the rest of the book will be a who-done-it, murder mystery type of book. But the story quickly turns into a courthouse procedural. If you don't know anything about how the legal system works, you will know a lot by the time you finish reading this book.

Brent Marks is an attorney who originally represents Nancy Haskins, a 73-year old woman whose Homeowner's Association is trying to foreclose on her property because she fell behind on maintenance payments after the death of her husband. Brent is able to halt the foreclosure to give Nancy time to get the money she needs to pay the Association. But shortly thereafter, Barbara Densmore, the hated president of the homeowner's association, the one who pursued the foreclosure against Nancy Haskins, suddenly dies of ricin poisoning contained in a vase of flowers that had been delivered to her home. And although after the murder the flowers can't be found, the police find a package of ricin inside a cellophane that had covered the flowers, inside Nancy Haskins' garbage. She has no idea how it got there, but she's arrested for murder, and Brent Marks takes on her defense. He takes you step-by-step through the trial, giving you an excellent lesson in criminal trial procedure.

The author of this book is an attorney who practices law in California, and who has represented many people who have fought against their homeowner's associations. At the end of the book, he gives some great examples of cases where the HOAs have improperly gone against residents. and he has been able to successfully defend his clients against the HOA's abuses. If your community has an HOA, and you've ever had to fight for your rights against them, you'll understand how some people might want to murder the president as well as the board of directors. A very interesting book, highly recommended.
