Three really good sword and sorcery stories in this issue. One is a continuation story from last month and I’m definitely enjoying that one! I can’t wait to see how it plays out. All three authors wrote compelling stories. Recommend!

odd issue. Gramlich knocks pure Sword and Sorcery story and character outta the ballpark. 5 stars. Dunne does not. 0 stars. Bartolome sorta does. 2ish stars. Gramlich alone saves this 3 stars.

SRM November 2025 Issue 40
Edited by William Miller
Literary Rebel

As the year winds down to a close SRM isn’t pulling any punches. The November issue boasts a great lineup of stories this month.

Charles Gramlich leads the charge with a brand new Krieg story. Once Upon a Blood-Dark Sea finds Krieg on a sea voyage. I forget where his destination lies because this three-hour tour becomes a living nightmare! An island has appeared where no island should be. Replete with mud and small crustaceans and the insidious Mer. The tower within the ruins of this island seems to be the focal point of all of this. There is a lot to this story packed within the confines of a short story framework. One thing is for sure, When are we getting a collection of Krieg stories?

Seain Dunne returns with the second installment of his Soldier and Witch series. This is one of my personal favorite ongoing series within SRM. The Dark Woods finds the pair still en route to the City. A tribe in retrograde haunt this wood. In this episode we learn a bit more about Malfey—her powers and intentions. Mostly just tidbits to make you hunger for more. Really good storytelling from a new voice.

Joshua Bartolome has the hard job of closing out this issue. Joshua is a new author to SRM. Marrow-Eater has a far east setting. In this land the succession has gone awry turning brother against brother. A legendary weapon lies in a remote ruin. It is decided this is the last ditch effort to win this losing war. Betrayed! Now the dispossessed prince must duel an unearthly creature from beyond. The truth and the revelation at the end…? Chef’s kiss!

Sword and Sorcery feast

If you love the exotic, the extravagant sweep of swords cutting into flesh, human and demon alike, curses for generations, and magic most foul, this is for you my friend.
