I caught a veterinarian when she fell out of a tree trying to save an injured animal. The rest was hot, fast, and impossible to stop.

Riggs I walked away from the firehouse after one rescue too many stayed with me.
Now I live off-grid, rehabilitating wildlife and keeping to myself, until a burned-out vet falls out of a tree near my cabin.

Simone is all quiet competence and bone-deep exhaustion.
The second I catch her against my chest, I see the way she carries too much, gives too much, and never stops until she breaks.

When the fawn I’ve been failing to save becomes ours to heal, she moves into my cabin “temporarily.”
Storms trap us. Nights stretch long. My routines rearrange themselves around her without my permission.

She has fourteen days on this mountain.
I’ve already decided she’s staying.

Simone

I came to Granitehart Ridge for a two-week reset and a chance to remember why I loved my veterinary job in the first place.
I didn’t expect a silent, broad-shouldered mountain man who watches me work like it matters, or who makes space for me before I know how to ask.

With Riggs, I don’t have to hold everything together.
He cooks. He steadies. He anchors me when the old pressure creeps back in.

When my former clinic calls with a promotion that would drag me back into burnout, I have to
the life that drained me, or the man who quietly built a place for me to belong.

Leaving is the sensible option.
Staying means trusting the safest thing I’ve ever felt.

Simone is a veterinarian spending two weeks at Granitehart Ridge checking trail cams. She meets Riggs when he sees her slipping from a tree while trying to help an injured animal. Riggs invites her to stay with him until the storm passes. He notices she is burned out and feeling drained. When her former clinic calls with information, Simone needs to make a choice between a promotion or staying with Riggs who makes her feel safe. As the attraction builds, she is stressing out more and more. What will Simone decide? Will she take the promotion or build a HEA with Riggs? Highly recommend.

Granitehart Ridge sooths a vet's soul. Riggs finds Simone hanging from a tree after slipping while checking trail cams. Riggs is an ex firefighter who retreated to his cabin eight years previously. Simone is a corporate vet from the city who is spending two weeks checking cameras so she can decide to take a promotion which means she no longer cares for animals. Their HEA helps her decide and is not to be missed, don't forget the bonus epilogue.

This FMC really struggles with an internal conflict. The MMC gives her the safe space to make the decisions she needs to. The spice is a slow burn. And the HEA is so sweet.

I really enjoyed this one. I felt for the FMC, all she wanted to do was be a vet and not some corporate person. And Riggs, oh sweet Riggs he just needed to get out of his own way. I loved the way he cared for Simone and let her find her own way, even if that meant losing her.
