One night, as Luna promoted her book during a live stream, a renowned Masktoker, Dante Wolfe, secretly tuned in from his burner account. Intrigued by, Luna's playful comment that she left in his comment section that he could effortlessly embody the male lead of her dark romance. Ink and Obsession is my first book by C.A. Burkhart and I are it up! I can’t wait to see what lies in store for the next book. Luna is an upcoming dark romance author thanks to the BookTok world. Dante is a member of the Masktoker world who tuned into Luna after a comment she left him saying how perfect he’d be for her male lead, Liam. Dante is instantly attracted to and obsessed with Luna after a discussion about one of her favorite scenes in her dark romance books. To find out what happens with these two you need to read this book and you won’t be disappointed!!!

ALC Review

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

📣"CALLING ALL FANS OF LIGHTS OUT, THIS ONE'S FOR YOU!!!!!"📣

This was my first experience with C.A. Burkhart and let me just say I will be running to any and all books she writes from now on!

Here we have Luna Stirling, an up and coming dark romance author and the latest Book-tok sensation. Running from an abusive relationship, Luna created a new identity and channeled all of her past trauma into writing about the heroine she wishes she could be. Little does she know, the danger she's tried so hard to escape from may soon be closing in on her.

Luna's best-selling novel, Vera's Vengeance, centers around a female serial killer who teams up with a detective to do the Lord's work and dispose of human scum. Meanwhile, a fellow Mask-tok celebrity, Dante Wolfe, stumbles across her page and decides that he could play the perfect real life adaption to the MMC she's created. His initial intrigue in Luna's work soon spirals into dangerous territory and complete obsession; hello you sexy stalker 👋🏾.

A story about a dark romance novel, where the events of the story start to bleed into real life...
Are you kidding me with this premise..BRILLIANT!

One of my favorite elements of dark romance is that the morally grey character finds a way to pull at your heartstrings and make you root for them...
Like, it's totally fine that Dante has become an unhinged, lunatic stalker, because he wants to protect her from the real danger LMAO 🤦🏾‍♀️! And did I mention Dante is a contract killer? That's not weird at all...Seriously, what is wrong with me for enjoying this so much?!

The lines between danger and desire were so blurry and I absolutely devoured every second of it! This story was so gripping, deliciously sinister, and kept me on the edge of my seat!

Skye Lark was a new female narrator for me and she delivered the perfect Luna; ambitious and sweet, with just the right amount of darkness lurking beneath. And Troy Druran, I can't sing his praises enough! This man could narrate a cookbook and turn it into a dark romance!

Thank you so much Dark Star Romance for this ALC, I can't wait to see what C.A Burkhart does next!!!

An amazing read. where the dark, sick twisted mind leave you going through a roller coaster of a storyline. A novel that once you start reading, you will not put down until the end.

Duet narration audio with Skye Lark and Troy Duran - they had great chemistry in this book and it definitely won't be the last one with Skye that I check out!

If you loved Lights Out by Navessa Allen but wanted it to be on the darker side, I definitely recommend this one! I also got Haunting Adeline and Mindf*ck vibes throughout and I was NOT disappointed!

CA set the tone for how the rest of the book is going to be pretty quickly and I loved that! We see who Dante is and what he wants and get Luna's background and current situation in just the first few chapters of the book.

Luna Stirling is on the run and has made a new name for herself in Boston, through BookTok, as a dark romance author. Dante is on the MaskTok side and consistently makes masked thirst traps, coming across her profile one day and being introduced to dark romance. Has Dante finally found his match?

He seamlessly inserts himself into Luna's life and we see just how far he goes to keep his eyes on her. I absolutely LOVED both sides of Dante - the guy we see with Luna is incredibly caring and considerate but also protective and possessive at the same time. The side we see in his own POVs is much darker and will hit that pitch black part of your brain.

I loved the backtracking as well so that we were able to see scenes in the book from BOTH perspectives - especially the scene with Dante putting more safety bars on her bedroom window. Seeing how in tune he was with Luna when she didn't think he had any idea was swoonworthy! "Obsession looks good on you"

Luna was a great FMC - she's already been through so much by the start of the book but is still incredibly strong and confident. She knows what she wants and is taking steps to get there. Her best friend, Olivia, was also the kind of best friend we ALL need in our lives - so supportive and understanding - and owns a bookstore/cafe it's really the perfect match!

Every time I listen to Troy Duran, I have the exact same thought: 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘭𝘺, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘶𝘥𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘷𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵. And every single time, I’m extremely grateful for it. 😂

Luna is a dark romance author who catches the attention of Dante during one of her social media lives. Dante is a thirst-trapping, double-life-living unaliver who promptly decides he’s going to make her his. In all the deliciously dark ways.

I very much enjoyed this one. Obviously, the narration was excellent. I would expect nothing less from Troy Duran and Skye Lark. 𝘛𝗵𝘦𝘆’𝒓𝗲 𝐟𝙖𝑛-𝐟𝗿𝒆𝗮𝐤𝑖𝙣𝒈-𝘵𝗮𝑠𝒕𝘪𝒄!

Together, they created a world filled with dark, twisted and suspenseful moments while still bringing all the romance, chemistry and spice. There was tension, obsession, danger and plenty of moments that had me completely hooked.

Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for more. Another amazing audiobook experience, made even better by two narrators who absolutely understood the assignment.

✨AUDIO/BOOK REVIEW✨

Rating: ♡5⭐️♡5 ♡ 🎧5🌶️ ♡

🎧Sky Lark - OMFG! I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed listening to you put a voice to Luna! I am pretty sure this was my first time with you, but it absolutely will NOT be the last! You made Luna come to life and that was fucking AMAZING!

🎧Troy Duran - It is ABSOLUTELY a pleasure to hear you bring life to Dante! The images that were created in my head… positively DIABOLICAL! As always, a pleasure, sir.

📚 C.A. Burnhart - HOLY SHIT BALLS! I knew I was going to devour this and I did! Dante and Luna are everything I imagined when I signed up and SO MUCH MORE! “To be continued…” Ummmm !!!!! GIMME! Haha! In all seriousness, as a lover of words — both writing and reading them — this tickled my brain and I loved it! I cannot see where the next one goes!

Thank you, Dark Star Romance, for providing me with an early copy of Ink and Obsession.

Ink and Obsession by C.A. Burkhart had potential, but it’s essentially a collection of tropes from other typical dark romance books, cobbled together into a book that could have been half its length. A mask talker starts stalking a dark romance writer and installs cameras in her apartment, and the tropes go on. Technically speaking, the writing isn’t bad; it’s just recycled stories. What annoyed me the most was getting into the story from the FMC’s perspective, then having to hear the same story from the MMC’s perspective. It was a lot of wasted words that could have been used to tell a deeper story.

With that said, the audio production was great. Skye Lark and Troy Duran gave energetic performances and brought these characters to life. There were some spots in the audiobook where you could hear the edits the narrators had to do. Such as subtle changes in EQ and volume but nothing that pulled you out of the listening experience. Overall, the audiobook is great, but the story is just lackluster.

This book didn’t just blur the line between fiction and reality… it obliterated it and lit the remains on fire.

From the very first page, I was completely hooked on Luna Stirling’s world—a BookTok darling writing dark romance that feels a little too real. And then Dante Wolfe enters the chat… literally. What starts as intrigue spirals into something far more dangerous, obsessive, and deliciously unhinged.

The tension? Immaculate.
The chemistry? Dark, electric, and borderline addictive.
The vibes? Think “you should be scared… but you’re not looking away.”

Dante is the kind of morally gray character that makes you question your sanity because WHY are we rooting for him?? Meanwhile, Luna is sharp, ambitious, and unknowingly stepping into a story she can’t control—and watching that unravel was absolutely gripping.

And can we talk about that premise?? A killer finding his muse in a dark romance author who writes about things a little too close to reality… it’s chilling in the best way. Every scene felt like walking a tightrope between desire and danger.

If you love:
🖤 obsessive anti-heroes
🔥 dark romance with a sinister edge
📚 BookTok/meta storytelling vibes
🩸 “this is wrong but I need more” energy

…this book will have you in a chokehold.

Final Verdict: A haunting, addictive read that pulls you in and refuses to let go. I devoured it and immediately wanted more. This is dark romance at its most dangerously captivating.

‎Not for me.

‎I thought I wanted to try something new. Masktok, Booktok, and everything that’s trending right now intrigued me, and what better way to get to know it than by reading a book about it? Unfortunately, the writing kept pulling me out of the story.

‎In just chapter one, we get almost everything about the FMC, Luna’s past: her toxic ex boyfie, how her parents died, how she became a victim of a trafficking, and even the fact that Luna isn’t her real name. Chapter one alone! It feels like trauma dumping. I would’ve loved it if these details were sprinkled throughout the book, teasing me little by little. I mean, come oooon, secret identity would’ve made a great plot twist!

‎Then there’s the MMC’s POV, which was genuinely interesting in the prologue, but later just turns into a retelling of what already happened ... Except now in his male gaze version??? I didn’t need to be told twice. You set a hidden camera on her? You stalk her? Please reveal it to me smoothly. Show me, don’t just tell me.

‎I’m still grateful to the author for the opportunity tho, and I hope she finds success just like Luna did.

I listened to this ALC audiobook in one continuous listen!! Did not stop until the end. Very impressed with C.A. Burkhart! You grabbed me on page 1 and did not let go until the "to be continued" I will be anxiously waiting for the follow up - please give it to me NOW!

Absolutely LOVED the MMC Dante - an unhinged but adorable book boyfriend I love to obsess over. The fact that he's a contract killer, he stalks and watches our FMC Luna, inserts himself into her everyday life - but he just wants to protect her and make her his!! And with Troy Duran's sexy as hell voice saying the things he says, who wouldn't fall for him.

Luna has escaped a dark past and become a dark romance author who has turned her life around. She's skeptical about dating when she first meets Dante, but he soon wins her over; and makes a lot of her fantasies she's been writing about come true. Talk about HOT chemistry.

Skye Lark is a new female narrator to me and I will be looking for more from her. Both narrators were phenomenal. They both pulled me into the story, kept me on the edge of my seat, made me laugh, and kept me completely entertained.

Thank You, Dark Star Romance and C.A. Burkhart for the opportunity to listen to this amazing audiobook for my honest review.

Ahhhh! As most of you might know, I won't read the blurb before I dive in so when I tell you I got so giddy once I realized what I had got into....! Booktok and Masktok collide in this one and I couldn't put it down. It was so addicting!

It was cool to see an older FMC (in her 30s), a dark romance author who catches the attention of a masktok creater one day and its straight Obsession from there. If you loved Lights Out but wondered what a darker version would be like, this is it! I didn't know there would be another book, but after the end I'm guessing there is and I need that!

Troy Duran and Skye Lark as Dante and Luna was flippin fantastic. Its in duet narration, and Troy fits this role perfectly and this is my first meeting with Skye and yessssss ma'am, I'll add her right to the list!

Story : 3⭐️
Narration : 3.5⭐️
Overall : 3⭐️

Story : This is my first book by C.A Burkhart, and I loved the concept of it. The fact that it was about an about an indie dark romance author with social anxiety. Who is just trying to start fresh from the horrible first half of her life. Using her personal experiences to write about a women who she wishes she could be. Loved that. I did become a bit confused with the change in POVs. Our FMC's POV will end and then the MMC's POV starts up but it have been whole days when the transition happens. For a little while I thought there were 2 MMCs. A chapter heading stating Dante (# of hrs earlie) would have helped. I did appreciate the real lofe feel of "vid tok" and how going viral can help your career etc. And some of our FMCs inner monolog was great i.e
"Take me to Dick Down Ville and drop me off at the corners of Good and Girl"

Narration: 3.5⭐️
This was my first time listening to this female narrator perform. She sounded exactly how I pictured our FMC. I did think that she did pauses in wierd places, that usually when I spead up I don't notice, in this case I still did.

Overall : 3⭐️
This is definitely worth the time to read or listen. I will forever remember this kind of story due to it being about an indie author on social media. All and all fell right down the middle for me.

This was such a fun book omg!

As a dark romance author, and fellow masktok enthusiast, Luna appealed to me so much, (me being a reader and also a huge fan of masktok! )
Luna had a rough past and gone through so much in her life, but refused to let the bad win. She focused on making her life better and proving to herself that healing is possible.
I loved that she wasn’t trying to heal for someone else but rather for herself. I found her to be very strong.

The MMC, Dante, is like a tattooed golden retriever with a dark secret. I loved how caring he was, and paid attention to Lunas needs.

The themes in this book are very much dark romance, please read the trigger warnings beforehand. However, the characters were funny, soft and very much loving.
I really enjoyed their dynamic as well as Lunas best friend.
This book had me laughing so hard in certain moments!
It kind of reminds me of Lights Out, as in it’s a funny dark romance.

I feel like the ending has left me with some questions so I’m hoping there will be more details and a resolution in book 2!

I would like to thank C.A Burkhart and her team for the ARC, I really appreciate the opportunity and really enjoyed this book!

Dark Romance
Stalking
Man obsessed
Touch her and 💀
FMC in hiding
Author FMC
Dual POV - 1st person

Duet narration - Troy Duran & Skye Lark
As I usually do I very much enjoyed Troy Duran’s performance. He played unhinged stalker perfectly. Skye Lark was new to me and she was wonderful. She performed this kinky, shy, but strong FMC well.

My first book by C.A. Burkhart and what a fun time it was! The writing style is dark but kind of lighthearted as well, the characters really have some dark tendencies but for reason so that makes you fall in love with them.

Dante is a mask tok creator looking for his perfect counter part women and he finds in with Luna a dark romance author who is in hiding from a horrible ex boyfriend and traumatizing past.

If you enjoy a little bit unhinged, obsessed MMC that also likes a little bit of primal play with an FMC that is all for it then look no further this book is for you. From the narration to the writing it’s a good time listen.

Please do check your trigger warnings this has dark themes.

Thank you Dark Star Romance & C.A. Burkhart for this ALC!

I had such a good time with this. It scratched an itch I haven’t been able to scratch since Lights Out. I really enjoyed the angle of making the FMC a dark romance author, it was kind of meta in such a fun way. The relationship between the characters was really good, and the chemistry was there from the beginning. I ended up reading this in one sitting.

The FMC has had a really hard go of life, and I loved the details we got to see, though I would have loved even more of that. I do feel like everything wrapped up a little too quickly and easily. I would have loved for that conflict to be drawn out a bit more, and also for her to sit in that feminine rage a bit more that we got to see in the end.

Thank you so much to Dark Star Romance for providing me with an ALC! All opinions are my own.

Listen… I opened this book expecting a little dark romance escapism, maybe a few blushes, maybe a raised eyebrow or two. What I didn’t expect was to be fanning myself like a Victorian widow and texting my husband, “Cancel your plans. We need to talk.”

C.A. Burkhart did not come to play. She came to snatch my attention, my sleep schedule, and apparently my marriage’s spark plug because WOW. The chemistry? Explosive. The tension? Tight enough to tune a guitar. The plot? Deliciously addictive.

Some books entertain you.
Some books distract you.
This one?
This one had me and my husband remembering we are, in fact, still very much alive.

If you like your romance dark, your characters intense, and your reading experience followed by a sudden increase in “quality time,” this is absolutely the book for you.

10/10. No notes. Just vibes, chaos, and unexpected relationship benefits. I want more book like this just kept me engaged and I don't normally give "smutty" book 5 stars cause I think its all the same I actually skip over that part because it makes me roll my eyes but this was the perfect amount and your character Dante -- where do I get one of those (aside from my husband hehe)

I received the alc for review for Ink & Obsession. I have not read any other books by this author, so I was excited to read something new to me.
I really liked the story line, it sounded interesting to me. I am starting this review before I’m finished, btw. I like both Luna and Dante, and I think they are a good couple. I don’t like the step by step telling me what’s going on. I don’t need a full essay with: “I removed my clothes, I turned on the shower. I adjusted the knobs to find the perfect temperature. I put my hair up in a hair clip. I stepped into the shower.”
Could have easily been “I started the shower while I undressed and put my hair up.” I am also having a hard time with the female narrators cadence. Her voice is fantastic and she plays a great Luna, sometimes her cadence and inflections just don’t feel quite right.
All together, I enjoyed the story.

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️- super spicy and delicious to listen to!
❤️💕the romance is one of insanity that keeps you wanting more
🏙️ the location of where the book is set is very well known to me
📖📚the fact that the book is about an author that has a stalker and secretly has the same kinks she writes about is 🤌

I would absolutely recommend this to any of you that enjoy a good, sexy listen. Extra points because the MMC is narrated by the very talented Troy Duran and the FMC by Skye Lark.

Ink & Obsession was an interesting listen, although it didn’t completely pull me in or keep me as invested as I had hoped. There were aspects of the story that I enjoyed, and Troy Duran‘s performance was a definite highlight for me. At times, the overall pacing and flow of the narration, made it difficult for me to remain immersed in the story, which affected my experience with the book as a whole. While this one wasn’t entirely for me, I can see it appealing to readers who connect more strongly with its story and narration style.

I received an advanced listener copy. All opinions are my own.

Have mercy this was a wild and crazy dark ride! I was on the edge of my seat with all the twists and turns in this story. This book certainly had it all for me with the banter, masked man, obsession, and heightened emotions! I was in literal heaven the entire time! Luna was full of surprises and I was here for it. Dante is equal parts the most dangerous diabolical man and devoted lover! All I’ll say is I do love a good chase in the woods! Duet narration by Skye Lark and Troy Duran was phenomenal and exquisitely pleasurable to listen to from start to finish! I couldn’t have picked a better combo to portray these characters. Every line spoken was done with easy flow and originality! This performance was most definitely a toe curling good time. Thank you Dark Star Romance and C.A. Burkhart for this ALC opportunity!

4.5⭐ 4🎙️

I really liked the story! Luna is a survivor who doesn't need to rely on Dante and also has other women (Olivia and Jordan) lifting her up. I do adore Dante and I love how he supports Luna, wanting to help her, but not forcing his help on her exactly. And he knows how to follow directions like a good boy. We love to see it. The ending is perfection itself.
I listened to the audiobook and it was pretty good. Troy Duran was awesome. The way he says "good girl"... Yup. I like Skye Larke, but I feel like she needs to work on her timing a bit more, there was too much hesitating between some lines. It could have just been more of an editing issue rather than a narrator issue though. I will say that she could use a smidge more emotional range to the character. Still, I love her voice and it's a thousand times better than anything I could do!

Thank you to @DarkStarRomance for this ALC in exchange for an honest review.

Honestly, this book completely caught me off guard. I expected a standard dark romance, but the whole TikTok creator dynamic made it so cool and current. Luna is such a great MMC. Watching her go from a rising indie author to the actual muse of a masked stalker had me completely hooked. The scene where she’s casually chatting on a livestream about disposing of a body on a pig farm while Dante watches from a burner account? Creepy, crazy, and totally addictive. The narration was incredible on this one! Skye Lark got Luna's personality so perfectly and make her feel like a real person you'd actually follow online, blending that indie author hustle with genuine vulnerability. And Troy Duran as Dante? Unreal. His voice is pure sexiness and menace. He completely nails that dark, obsessive energy without overdoing it.
If you’re into stalker romances and love a good audio production, you definitely need to this one ASAP!

Wow!! C.A. Burkhart you out did yourself!! Ink and Obsession was my first book by you and I ate it up! I cannot wait to read more of your work. This book had so much detail in it and painted the perfect picture of what was going on in the scenes. I felt like I was in the story with the characters.

Luna and Dante the main characters were perfect for each other. I enjoyed the fact that Luna was an author on Booktok and Dante was on Masktok. I honestly feel like if you enjoyed Haunting and Hunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton you would enjoy this book. There is a cat and mouse scene that was just delicious. The fact that Dante would do anything and everything for Luna to make here happy and keep her safe made him the perfect man. I also loved how the fact that my daughter’s name was included in the story and just made me want to keep reading. I will be patently waiting for book 2 and to see where Luna and Dante’s story goes from here.

🖤📚 A dark romance author, an obsessed Masktoker, and a twisted game of obsession where fiction starts feeling dangerously real. 📚🖤

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5)
Spice-meter: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️☆ (4/5)
Audiobook: 🎧 Duet
Series: Standalone
HEA: Yes (with a bit of a cliffhanger)

Ink & Obsession was my first book by C.A. Burkhart, and I have to say... what a concept. A dark romance author, BookTok, a mysterious Masktoker, and a man who becomes completely obsessed with the woman behind the books? I'm here for it.

The premise immediately caught my attention. Luna is a dark romance author whose books have taken off thanks to BookTok, and Dante is a popular Masktoker who discovers her during a livestream. What starts with a playful comment quickly turns into something much darker when Dante decides that Luna isn't simply his favorite author anymore she's his muse.

And honestly, the tension between these two? Immaculate.

Their chemistry is dark, electric, obsessive, and completely addictive. Dante is exactly the kind of unhinged, possessive anti-hero you'd expect from this premise, while Luna has far more strength beneath her softer exterior than you might initially expect.

What surprised me most was how much humor and softness existed underneath all the darkness. Despite the stalking, masks, murder, obsession, and morally questionable behavior, the characters also had genuinely funny and tender moments. I especially enjoyed Luna's friendship and the way those lighter interactions balanced some of the darker material.

The book also touches on themes of strength, survival, and refusing to let the past define you, giving the story a little more depth than simply being a dark and spicy romance.

One thing that didn't work quite as well for me was the use of repeated scenes from both POVs. There were several moments where we essentially experienced the same scene twice first from the MMC's perspective and then again from the FMC's. That particular storytelling choice doesn't work especially well for me because it slows down the pacing rather than adding something new.

And that ending definitely left me with questions. It gives us the HEA, but there's enough left unresolved that I'm hoping book two gives us some answers and a proper resolution to the bigger story.

What I Loved

✔️ Unhinged and possessive MMC
✔️ Surprisingly funny and soft moments
✔️ Strong FMC beneath the vulnerability
✔️ Luna's friendship
✔️ Plenty of tension and spice
✔️ Stalking, masks, murder, and obsession
✔️ Intriguing setup for what's next

🎧 Narration

Performed in duet by Skye Lark and Troy Duran.

These two were fantastic together.

Skye Lark was a completely new narrator for me, and she absolutely made an impression. She brought Luna to life with so much personality, emotion, and vulnerability, while still capturing her strength and darker side. I genuinely enjoyed listening to her performance and will definitely be checking out more of her work.

And Troy Duran? Absolutely perfect as Dante.

His voice gives Dante exactly the kind of dark, dangerous, obsessive energy this character needs. He managed to make the character's intensity come through without losing the softer moments, and his performance definitely added to the overall atmosphere of the story.

Their chemistry worked incredibly well in audio, and the narration made the darker and more emotional moments even more immersive.

Final Thoughts

Ink & Obsession is a dark, spicy, slightly unhinged romance with a genuinely fun premise. The combination of a dark romance author and a BookTok-famous Masktoker immediately pulled me in, and Luna and Dante's chemistry kept me invested.

While I would have preferred less repetition between the POVs and a little more clarity by the ending, there was still plenty here to enjoy. The characters have a surprising amount of softness beneath all the darkness, and the audiobook narration by Skye Lark and Troy Duran was a definite highlight.

For fans of obsessive anti-heroes, dark romance, BookTok vibes, stalking, masks, murder, possessiveness, and “the man is absolutely unhinged about her” energy, this one is definitely worth checking out. And after that ending, I'm very curious to see what comes next.
