The Island

Rate this book
From the best-selling sensation Jason Summers comes the next Detective Nick Vada Thriller!

Detective Sergeant Nick Vada arrives on the idyllic Palmbreak Island for a rare escape with his partner, Bec—white sand, calm water, and a week with no crime scenes. But the holiday shatters when a young resort staff member is found murdered under disturbing and unexplained circumstances.

With a tropical storm closing in and the island’s only transport shut down, Nick is suddenly the most experienced investigator in a place full of strangers, secrets, and rising panic. As winds strengthen and tensions fracture, Nick must navigate a resort full of unreliable witnesses, hidden relationships, and a killer who knows the island far better than he does.

Cut off from the mainland, racing the clock and the weather, Nick uncovers a truth that’s more twisted than the storm itself because on Palmbreak Island, everyone has something to hide, and the murderer is counting on the storm to wash the evidence, and Nick, away

Doesn’t Disappoint from the first to the last page

Been a fan from the very first novel and this is definitely up there with the best. 2 storylines , each drawing you in. Can’t wait for the next one.

A change of setting from outback to island resort makes a refreshing change for Nick Vada as does a temporary change of partner for his offsider Joanna. The duel timeline kept readers on our toes as did two parallel investigations. Ending was a cliff hanger. Write fast, Jason. We want to read the next one!

I love the Nick Vada books, of course he was not going to get a murder free holiday.
Pleased that Joanna was not sidelined while Nick was away & was involved in a separate case back in Sydney.
What a cliffhanger - did not see that coming.
When will the next book be ready? Please Jason don't keep us waiting too long

There's been a murder

Love the suspense Jason brings to his stories.
The description of the land draws you in so you actually feel you are there.
I've enjoyed all his books and hate getting to close of books
Highly recommend your books to family and friends.

Disappointing

I've read and loved all the books in this series, but although the storyline in this latest or last book was good, the editing and proofreading was atrocious. There were chapters where the time frame changed without any warning. It was completely jarring for a bit until you figured out you had gone back in time a few days. It didn't help that there were two different investigations going on simultaneously in two different locations. I'm not sure if this was the last book in the series or not, but the ending left a lot of questions unanswered. This was especially true in the secondary investigation. I would definitely recommend this series, but if there is another book, hopefully the author will do a better job of editing it, and just maybe give us some answers to this cliffhanging ending.

fantastic series- what a cliff hanger!

The Nick Vada thriller series has been so enthralling from the first to this book. I have binge read the series in the last two weeks and wow - what a ride. Can’t wait for the next in the series. Well written and researched, the characters are well developed, the locations and characters- truly Australian. Loved it!

I so enjoy reading Jason Summers novels. He just captures so quickly and lucidly the scene for the reader! My dream would be to interview him for my blog. I have already raved about him to my readers and would enjoy the chance to learn more of his writing process.

I see so much progression in the novel with this author as the ending is definitely different from his other endings in the series and leaves the reader waiting for the next one in the series. I read it in 2 days!

I love novels about Australia. This one taking place in a resort was very unique and of course, I love the main character of the detective and his girlfriend. Jason summers exceeds expectations. I really follow all his novels.

Quick and easy read, not my favourite Nick Vada adventure, but still enjoyed. Felt like the height of the book was reached, and resolved, and wrapped up in the last 10% of the book without too much going on before then. Enjoyed the plot reveal at the end leading to the next book!

I almost could have given this book a 1 star purely for the diabolical cliff hanger at the end 😂

After following these characters over the last couple of years and the 10 previous books, I had this one on pre order and forgot about the launch. The Nick Vada series isn’t necessarily one you need to truly follow from start to finish as important reminders are scattered through the story of past cases and locations. Although, to miss the growth and character development of the main stayers would almost be a crime in itself.

Set in an idyllic island location, this book truly sets the scene for the events to follow, with shady characters you grow to like and the mystery surrounding the story that had me guessing a few times. Then the ending? I could have thrown my kindle off a cliff.

Jason Summers has a gift with words and world building, bringing locations and characters to life in a way not many can. I can’t wait for the twists that I am sure will follow in the next book.

An unresolved ending spoils this book

I have read and enjoyed several Nick Vada thrillers. This one got off to a shaky start but eventually settled into a familiar Jason Summers' rhythm..

Unlike previous prequels there were two separate but linked investigations, one on a Whitsunday resort island and one in Sydney. One was investigated by our hero Nick, the other by his offsider, Joanne..

At the conclusion of the book we have the resolution of one storyline but the other is left completely up in the air. Are we supposed to read the next instalment? Are the two stories linked further still?

I can't say I'm a fan of this literacy device. Firstly it is presumptuous, and it makes it impossible for us to judge the ending of the book.

I hope this isn't a trend.

I love the Nick vada series and the suspense of the books. A favourite series of mine. BUT, The let down with this book was the terrible editing / proofreading. Very disappointing to be published with so many errors. Hopefully future books are thoroughly reviewed before publishing.

It started off really well and then was just dragged out and boring. No twists, nothing crazy. And a stupid ending.

Why is editing becoming a lost art? So many inconsistencies with missing words etc etc.

A very enjoyable book, but it needs better proofreading.
I was hoping it wasn't going to end as it did, but now I need the next book!
