Blast off on an interstellar adventure... and be sure to bring your appetite!
Cay Cantore is arrogant, manipulative, and a toxic optimist—according to his best friend Jerricho Hatch, anyway. He also happens to be the grandson of Sal Cantore, famous host of the food program Galactic Eats, who disappeared fifty years ago in search of the fabled planet Eden.
Hunted down by bloodthirsty loan sharks, and in desperate need of cash, Cay convinces Jerricho to join him in an interstellar scheme. Together aboard an aging starship, the cocky chef and his long-suffering cameraman set course for the stars to reboot Sal's old show and to discover the long-lost Trees of Eden, whose rumored fruit is so intoxicating, anybody who eats it will never leave the planet again.
In their quest to find the Milky Way's rarest foods, Cay and Jerricho must brave hostile worlds, battle deadly creatures, and outwit Sal's old rival, Gustav Geiger—all while trying not to strangle each other along the way. Will their race against a ticking clock lead them to fame and fortune? Or will they, like Sal, become lost among the stars forever?
Denali Majesto spent his earlier years in the private business sector, yet he never felt quite at home in what he was doing. After an early retirement from the world of business, Majesto dedicated his life to the three activities he treasures most: loving his family, exploring the globe, and writing. He has since written a small library’s worth of stories, which he has begun unveiling to the world—one story at a time. Through both his writing and the tireless work of his ambassadors, it is Majesto’s wish that he might entertain and bring hope to the lives of countless others.
This story had a bit of everything! This was full of adventure, food, space, danger, excitement & so much more. The banter and sarcasm between the two main characters was absolute perfection. I absolutely loved their sarcasm and friendship. I have never considered myself a sci-fi reader, but it's books like this that make me fall in love with the sci-fi genre. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Denali Majesto's has done it again. This book has so many layers and is so unique. There is Adventureland, food, space, danger, intrigue, and just a fantastic book. I 10 out of 10 recommend this book.
This is such a great book - and since this is Goodreads I can say that I received an advanced copy for a honest review.
It starts off in the past - think a travel/baking blogger - but she goes everywhere in the Universe - and goes to the most dangerous areas to get the goods to make food.
So, then we get to modern day - and her grandson (who happens to get in trouble like all the time) is on the run from money lenders (all over the universe).
This is his story, Cay, and his friend going to save Cay's skin and relive his families past history.
I really loved the book - I cannot recommend it more highly!
What a creative way put a spin on the food show industry. You have the SIFI element mixed with mystery and danger. All throughout Cay and Jerricho's adventures. You know that one question you get asked "If you can have dinner with one person, who would it be?" Well, right now, for me, it would be Denali Majesto. I want to pick his brain and know how he came up with the names of the foods, creatures, and planets. And what made him put a loan shark in the story? Because come on, that just added to the race against time. Galactic Eats was a fun crazy read. One I would absolutely recommend to any YA SIFI readers.
Ok this book was so much fun! I got completely lost in the adventure; it was just so unique. I have never read a book about a food show set in space. The worlds, creatures, and food were so imaginative. The main characters made me laugh out loud. If you are looking for a quick, fun read, give this one a try.
First I want to thank the author for allowing me to read this as an advanced copy.
I went into this book blind and I will admit that I had a hint of skepticism in the beginning, but as the story unfolded I was pleasantly surprised.
This story has an intergalactic setting, Earth is no longer the only inhabited planet and humans are not alone. Our main characters are humans, friends one of them might say, who embark on a mission to make money to pay off thugs.
There are themes of social injustice and intolerance but the overall theme for me was one of self discovery. This gave me Guardians Of The Galaxy meets Top Chef vibes and was done in such a way that I couldn’t wait for the next episode. The dynamic between the two main characters reminded me of brothers with their constant banter style bickering. There’s not a dull moment in this story and the ending was a surprise.
