There’s a lot of charm in New Mexico, and much of it leaves people surprisingly breathless. From unbelievable sunsets to a rich history filled with conflict, peace, and celebration. This incredible land has wonder, heart, depth, and a timeless bounty of mystery. One of the greatest elements of the Land of the unexplainable. There are places and mysteries and miracles in the great state, and Loretto takes us on an incredible journey to the Wild West…
Let's READ! Long time reading enthusiast and lover of all entertaining stories. There's a message in all those pages so let's make it a good one!...And make it fun and scary while we do so!
Sometimes books struggle to find the right place to open. Loretto is not one of those. The story opens with action, flinging the reader right into the midst of an old west shoot out.
From there we follow a dual narrative and a jumping timeline between 1837 New Mexico and 1992 Los Angeles (during the Los Angeles Riots). This is a thoughtful and unique juxtaposition of two historical events in the US, though the story itself is purely fiction.
Gabriel Maestas weaves together these timelines, both revolving around an inspiring old church in New Mexico.
The theme of the past directly affecting the present (and the strong hint of lost treasure) is reminiscent of Holes by Louis Sachar (another book I love).
While a work of fiction, Gabriel has shared that the book is loosely based on the real chapel of Loretto, which features a mysterious staircase, built by an unknown carpenter.
