This is an introductory novella to the Keepers of Hell Series and does contain a cliffhanger.

Ash had promised himself into servitude to a demon when he was only a child. He spent his life killing for the demon and he was good at his job. It was the only way to ensure the safety of his sister. When a brush with death brings Dr. Elizabeth Rone into his life, things change. The demon wants her dead and for Ash, that's a deal breaker.
He never killed an innocent soul. Not only was she innocent, but she made him feel things he had thought he was incapable of.
With a demon hell bent on her demise, will Ash be her savior, or will she be the one saving him?

I live in KY with my family. While I hold a "real job" my first love will always be writing.
I enjoy lots of different kinds of books, and many different authors. Some of my favorites are, but not limited to, Sandra Hill, Lori Foster, Kelly Armstrong, Stephen King, James Patterson, J.R. Ward and Emma Holly. But I think I would read just about anything with a good plot.

A decent intro to a series with this type of premise. But I was hoping for a bit more intensity (emotionally as well as physically) between the H/h. Still, this plot has piqued my interest. So I'm moving on to book 2.

Happy Reading :)

Savior was book 1 in the Keepers of Hell Series. It wasn't a bad book but if it had not been for the cliffhanger ending, I don't think I would have been interested enough to continued. I didn't feel any connection to the characters and at times found myself bored. As I already said there is a cliffhanger and its enough to have me curious as to what happens next.

I spotted this as a freebie and was curious about just where this series could go. It’s a prequel I guess as it introduces Ash who as a child sold his soul to protect his sister. Now year later he’s all grown up and is an assassin working for an ambitious demon. Unfortunately he himself is nearly killed but that’s perhaps not exactly the worst thing as it brings into his tortured life Elizabeth. Elizabeth is the doctor who saves Ash’s life and she quickly becomes his kryptonite which puts her firmly in the demons crosshairs . How can Ash save the woman who holds his heart so easily in her hand when saving her means destroying his sister?
Yes it’s the beginning of a series so be prepared to gnash your teeth at the ending. There’s a great deal of potential here but sadly I thought it lacked depth in terms of the characters and their connections. Perhaps it was just rushed a touch with the romance seeming to happen too quickly for my taste. I did enjoy the overall plot and even though I would have preferred a lot more world building ( sadly there’s none really) but the ending leaves this reader wondering exactly how the author can ever bring about a happy ending for this couple.

Danielle James has an amazing ability. She is able to draw her readers in to a story so quickly and make us (or at least me) fall in love with the characters in just a few pages. This is a rare talent in authors these days. There have been books I’ve picked up and chapters later still don’t have an emotional attachment to any of the characters. Less than ten pages into Savior – Book 1 in The Keepers of Hell – I was right beside Ash ready to follow him wherever he went.

As a child, Ash gave his life to a demon in order to save his little sister’s life. Now plenty of years later, he’s become a proficient killer – taking out demons that escape from hell or cause problems. He’s resigned himself to this life until a brush with death sets him on a new path.

Ash finds himself drawn to Dr. Elizabeth Rone. Her feisty, yet caring attitude brings a light into the dark world in which Ash resides. But when the demon he serves wants her dead, can Ash bring himself to take the innocent soul?

James’ Keepers of Hell takes readers on a crash course in a new take on heaven, hell, demons, angels and even God. I’ll be the first to admit that the images of heaven and hell I grew up with were vastly different than those offered in Savior, but not so different that I couldn’t find myself believing in the world James created. That’s the beauty of authors like Danielle James – they are able to take the long held beliefs of their readers and gently guide them into a new format – a new way of seeing – that does no disrespect to original beliefs, just opens up an entirely new world of possibilities.

Fans of James’ Forbidden Love series will catch little nods to that world from within Savior. It’s not part of that series per se, but comes across more as a spin-off/continuation of a story line. It’s 100% a standalone beginning to the new series, but if you’re familiar with her other works, longtime fans won’t be disappointed.

I was asked to beta read this book, and I thank Danielle for that!

Ash sold his soul to a demon, as a child, and didn't fully understand what he did to save his sister. He carried on doing the demon's dirty work, until he is faced with a decision, save himself AND his sister again, or kill an innocent woman wh has come to mean a great deal to him.

I loved that you got so much more of Ash in this book, than Elizabeth, I really did. He comes across all hard and tough, but really, he just needs someone, someone for him, and that no one else can touch. Unfortunately, the demon sets his sights on Elizabeth and Ash is forced to choose.

They way it all goes down, is a total surprise. I read it, and had to reread the last chapter or so several times to make sure I got it right, but let me tell you now,

this is a cliff hanging ending!

I knew that going in, so it wasn't so bad, but I really do appreciate knowing that, since my kindle is more likely to survive. If I feel like that, I assume someone else does.

This is the start of a new series, an introduction if you will. What comes next, I've no idea, but I look forward to it, as and when it comes out. I do hope Elizabeth and Ash come out alright at the end.

4.5 stars, simply because its short. no other reason.

Holy Heck!!
This book is a fantastic introduction to the Keepers of Hell series. Who doesn't love a sexy demon slayer! Ash made a deal with a demon when he was only ten years old and has spent his entire adult life keeping his end of the bargain. Then he meets Dr Elizabeth Rone and everything changes. The choices he made in his life make him believe that he can't ever have a normal relationship, but that too is about to change. I can't wait for the next book, Salvation, to see what happens to Ash and Elizabeth and their journey to find each other.

This is an introduction to a new series and does contain a cliffhanger type ending.

I was lucky enough to receive an advance copy of this book and I didn't think Danielle James would be able to match her forbidden love series but I believe she just might have with this book. Ash is a loner with only one reason to live until he encounters Elizabeth and she changes his whole world and turns it upside down. Their story draws you in and has you screaming for more. It's well written and leaves you wanting and needing to know what's going to happen next. I believe this is the start of a great series that will give her forbidden love series a serious run for it money.

I read this and it was good. Now what I want to know is will Elizabeth and Ash get together for one of those happily ever after things? I loved the cliffhanger. It worked for this story. It made me want to know more about what will happen to Ash, his sister, and Elizabeth and makes me look forward to Part two in the series/book/etc. Great work Danielle. I loved it. Also, when I started reading it I couldn't put it down for fear of missing something important. Great job!

My original Savior audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer.

Savior is the first novella in a series called Keepers of Hell by Danielle James. Ash is a slave to a demon and he has been from when he was an elementary school. When his parents were murdered by this demon and the demon turned on Ash’ sister, Ash stepped forward to protect her. The demon then offered Ash a job. He gave Ash the opportunity to work for him and in return the demon would not murdered Ash’ sister. Not knowing what he was signing up for, Ash accepts. Now, Ash is beholden to this demon and must do what he is told. Enter Elisabeth, a trauma surgeon. Never expecting to have any personal life, Ash is taken aback by his attraction for his doctor. Now, he must figure out how to balance his bargain with the demon with his unquenchable attraction to Elisabeth.

Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy this novella for many reasons. There was definitely a lot of potential, but I think the story needed further development. The broad strokes of the plot are interesting and even have the potential to be unique. The relationship between Ash, demons, and God is a twist on a common topic. But, I would've liked more details, which could've perhaps been introduced with more characters. However, I was really looking for a stronger plot in both the romance and urban fantasy aspect of the novel. I especially didn’t like the romance because to me it felt forced. It seemed abrupt and before the reader gets to know the characters they are lusting after one another. There was a lot of physical attraction with little mental connection between the two characters. The urban fantasy aspect was interesting, but there wasn’t really much detail given to the reader and so when Ash enters the demon world, it didn’t feel vivid. Ultimately, I felt that the world building was not as strong as it could’ve been. Further, the end of the novella is a twist and a cliffhanger, which can be frustrating. Overall, I think the short length was a detriment to the story.  With a longer novel, the world building and character development could have been stronger.

The narration by Miles Taylor was okay. However, I didn’t think his voicing of the different characters was dynamic enough, which could’ve helped characterize them a little more. The production quality was good. I would recommend this novella to someone who likes quick fixes for heavy anticipation and romance in an urban fantasy world.

Audiobook was provided for review by the narrator.

I fell in love with the main character Ash. As a little boy he endured a horrible tragic child hood. He made a deal with a demon to save his sister the last of his family. About 20 years later he is now a trainer demon killer. He is very good at his job and that is what keeps his sister safe from the same demon that killed his family. The only part of the agreement he requested as part of the deal is he would not kill any innocents.

The author did a really great job getting me interested in the story line with Ash starting the story in the middle of a job. She explains Ash's life for us and the where and why Ash is who he is. I really liked knowing who Ash is and why. He loves his sister to a fault but falls in love with a Dr. Elizabeth Rone. The Dr. thinks she is going to hell for something she had done as a little girl. The demon tried to convince Ash that she was not an innocent and he has to take care of business. Ash's love for the Dr. makes him take an extra look at the Dr. life. What he finds does not surprise him. Just how he decided to handle what the demon wants does.
I really loved this audio book. It is on my list of books I want to read again but only after I get a chance to read/listen to the next books in the series. I let my husband listen to the sample and he was hooked also. I thought this was cute since Miles deep voice gave me the super hots for Ash. LOL Love it!
Miles Taylor was amazing as the narrator. He voice was a perfect fit for Ash. He some how put a picture in my mind of Ash that made me think hot hot stuff.
I did not feel like the ending was a cliffhanger though. Ash came in did his job. Saved his sister. Got the girl and they were in love by the end. Just what I would want out of a book that is less than 4 hours long. All I can say is you won't be sorry you found Danielle James new Series!

I did receive this book in exchange for a review.

I too was given this book to BETA read and loved it. As I have of all Danielle James; books. I became hooked at the beginning of 2014 & crave any new story in the series of stories, loving how the characters grow, taking you on an emotional ride.

This newbie - Savior - is the same, new characters, but you are still drawn in, wanting more, investing your emotions into each of the characters lives. I loved it - it flowed so well with you being drawn into the characters, the intensity of their emotions, their relationships. Loved the little tie in to the last book with Lucifer & his son's demise. Still settling my own emotions, thinking about it, wanting more and gutted that he made that request of God! The end was a real curve ball with him being asked to lead Hell, but hated that he chose to have them both forget, so wrong... :)

Initially as does any writer who puts out a series of books with cliffhangers and this it a tough one to deal with, was so gut wrenching for Ash to make such a decision, given how both characters have very strong feelings for each other. Ash virtually in love with her.

Me personally I will hate the wait for the next part, it'll kill me now as it is. I so want them both to be happy and together, a life whatever it is, doing good.

SO along with all other fans out there I will eagerly await the next book, wishing you the very best of health always, so that you may keep us all enthralled with these new characters. Much thanks again Danielle for being a member of your Beta readers and to continue to enjoy your great works.

So folks if you have read her other books, you HAVE to add this to your collection, so get it, read it, love it & review it! :D

PS: I did note the tie in to other books! :D

"Becoming an Angel!"

Overall

Performance

Story

Wow....I absolutely LOVE this story. I've never listened to anything written by author Danielle James until now. She now has a fan of her stories. This story was fantastic and it took my breath away. This is a great introduction to the Keepers of Hell series. I can't wait for the second story. The author is extremely talented and she has a gift to write a story that's perfect. It draws the readers/listeners in immediately and make you love the characters as well. I won't go into details because this is a story you must read/listen to for yourself. The story is rather short but I normally wouldn't say this but it's worth a credit or the money to purchase this well thought of, amazing story. The story is filled with demons, details of Hell, images of heaven, mystery, and even some much heated romance along the way. Authors all try to take a different approach when they write about heaven and hell but James is unique and she opens open different possibilities on the way others might imagine the two to be.

The narrator, Miles Taylor did an excellent job with the telling of this story. This is the first time I've listened to anything by this narrator but I'll be looking for more of Miles work. Miles really brought this story to life so well, I pictured it all in my mind. I was able to identify each character from their accents that Taylor gave them. Overall, this is a 5 star rating, I only wish it had been longer. This is a wonderful story, you should definitely get it today. You have nothing to lose but a great story to gain. This is a story that I highly recommend. I received this audio in exchange for an honest review.

I could sum this whole book up in two words, intense and love. Danielle James had me hooked from the first intense sentence. She created a story that grips you and forces you to find out what's going on.

I loved her take on Heaven, Hell, demons, and God. She seemed to take normal views of these things and made them come to life in a way most people wouldn't think. She brought this aspect to life in a romance story without it being offensive or like there was something missing. Danielle James did a fantastic job with this part of the story and how it weaved into the romance.

Ash is a man who made a deal as a child with a demon. Now he does the demon's dirty work for him and has made himself a cold domineering man who is fiercely protective of his sister. Then he meets Elizabeth who he can't get out of his head. I enjoyed their give and take and how despite the fact that Ash is such a domineering enigma Elizabeth remained strong and not a frivolous woman.

The cliffhanger isn't nail biting, yell until your throat hurts, hunt the author down kind of cliffhanger. It's subtle, but it's there. In fact, you could choose not to read the next book in the series and have this book be a standalone, but the ending would be devastatingly sad.

I loved Savior and absolutely cannot wait to read Salvation to find out what happens next.

I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I was so excited for Danielle James to spread her talent and come out with a new series. This is a series you do not want to miss. Savior is just a sample of the epic $h*t that is to come!

You are pulled right into the story and given a picture of the life Ash has chosen for himself. This is not a fluffy paranormal read, but there are some very sentimental moments that will tug on your heart as well as moments that will send a cold chill down your spine.

Ash is a man of few words but you will still find yourself drawn to his loyalty and love for his sister, as well as the inner turmoil of what he feels he deserves and what he feels he doesn't. As much as I wanted to reach in and hug him there was a side of me that was cautious and not quite sure. It was if I was guarding my own heart while reading. But when Dr. Elizabeth Rone comes into the picture you are filled with such hope for Ash to finally have a piece of life that he thought was impossible; love.

But the Demon who owns his soul will have nothing get in his way... Love is a distraction he can't afford. I was on the edge of my seat as the plot thickened and everything was revealed, setting you up for the next book. I CAN'T WAIT!

What made the experience of listening to Savior the most enjoyable?
The story was quick to pull you in and the narration was great. I liked how Miles read the story to me and didn't try to overly do a woman's voice.

What did you like best about this story?
The story is fast paced and you are right there with the main character Ash. Danielle James does a superb job of pulling you in quickly and where you don't want to stop listening with Miles' narration.

What about Miles Taylor’s performance did you like?
He just read the story so well. Sometimes it's hard to think about a female author and a male narrator, but with the main character being male it was that much better.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I did not take a look at anything about the book, so in notating that the language is explicit so I would put a R rating on the audio for the book.

Any additional comments?
I received a free copy in exchange for an unbiased review from audio book blast.

Danielle James is one of my favorite authors. Her stories are fast-paced and entertaining, not to mention she sure knows how to write a steamy scene. But I think Savior is probably my favorite novel of hers that I've read to date. As a child, Ash Bailey strikes a bargain with a less than savory entity in order to protect his sister. Because of that deal, he's forced into a life of reluctant demon-slaying the moment he enters adulthood. Now that his sister that he has fought so hard to protect has grown up and is engaged to be married, Ash feels it necessary to check up on his future brother-in-law. This leads to a series of events that puts him in the path of meeting Elizabeth Rone, the romantic interest. I loved that you got Ash's POV more so than any other character's. And while you can call the ending a cliffhanger, I liked it that way. Because that means there's a whole other book that continues their story, and I can't wait to read it!

Holy Hawt Hell! Ash Bailey is a demon killer. He was trapped into a contract with a demon when he was 10 years old in order to save his sister, and now will spend the rest of his days killing those Shax tells him to. Ash is a big, sexy guy with a hot body and a scary personality. He's a human, though, and one day gets shot and ends up in the hospital where doctor Elizabeth Rone saves his life. He and Elizabeth feel a deep attraction to each other, but with his job he can't get close to anyone. When Shax orders him to kill Elizabeth, he knows he needs to make some changes! I loved these characters, especially Ash. He's one of those tortured souls you just want to save and have be happy. And he deserves to find someone like Elizabeth, who has her own past to deal with. Along with these two, Ash's sister Lele and her fiance James are interesting side characters. Great story - but ends on a cliff hanger which I didn't realize before I started the book. I hate that!

I started this book and couldn't put it down! The story was fast paced and the characters were well developed. The spin on heaven and hell, angels and demons, completely intrigued me. It is far different than any other angel & demon story I've ever read. I love Ashes character and how even though he was wronged, he wasn't a lost cause. He has a huge amount of love in him to give and proves it. Elizabeth is amazing as well and the two of them together are hot, hot, hot. They are such a good fit for one another. She keeps him grounded, and he makes her feel alive. He does everything he can to keep her safe. The end of this book will have you screaming OMG NO! all while your heart grows bigger for Ash. Make sure you have book two ready and waiting when you finish this or you'll be kicking yourself!

Wow I couldn’t put this down.

After witnessing the brutal rape and murder of his mother. Then the death of both his parents. Ash sells his soul as a child to save the life of his little sister Lele.

Upon turning 18 Ash gets a visit from the demon and subsequently becomes The Slayer. Doomed to serve him, until the day he dies. Then one faithful day down in a dirty ally-way, everything changes!

Elizabeth is an ER doctor and saves Ash’s life. By doing so she unwittingly starts a chain of events, that will change the course of everything in Heaven and Hell. But at what cost?

I loved that we got to see who Ash is as a person and am hoping after that cliff hanger of an ending that we will learn more of Elizabeth in the next release.

I am a huge fan of Danielle's Forbidden Love series but I can honestly say, without a doubt, Keepers of Hell is going to be one "hell" of a series. No pun intended, of course. When I received my copy of Savior, my first thought was...love the cover. My second, I hate cliffhangers. But after reading this story, which once I started couldn't put down, wouldn't you know it...the dang cliffhanger worked. Savior is the perfect beginning to this series. And be warned...you might need a tissue or two. Great job, Danielle. Loved it and looking forward to book 2. Can't wait to find out what's in-store for Ash, Elizabeth and the rest of the gang.

As with most first books in a series this one was just entertaining enough to keep me reading. There was some slow moving world building, however not enough character building for my liking. That is not saying I didn't enjoy the story just that I usually don't find the first book in a series very all consuming. This book does leave us with a major cliffhanger, luckily all the books are already out for this series. I look forward to reading the other books to see how far the author comes along with tightening up her stories and giving us a more in depth look into her characters, giving us the opportunity to get emotionally invested in the characters in this series.

I was given a free copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review....and I did like it! Ash is an interesting character that I definitely want to know more about! I think this series has great potential and cant waif to see where it goes...From demon hunter servitude to angel...that is something cool...Ash is also unselfish and decent in a bad boy sort of way that makes you want to know him...its always those dark and mysterious types that suck a girl in and leave you wanting more....I will continue this series....and this story is well worth a listen!

What happened?

It started off pretty interesting with a child being forced to watch his family die. Then he turns around and sacrifice his soul for his sister safety. Tricked and used as a killing machine then the story went somewhere else. I'm confused and don't know what really happened!

Ash made a deal with a demon to save his sister's life. He's spent his whole life doing despicable things for the demon, in order to keep her safe . Will he be able to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect her? I loved this story! No cliffhangers, just a little bit of a lead-in at the end, to make me want to read the next story; which I will definitely do!
