Imma See for Myself: A Stubborn Girl's Guide to Trusting God

Rate this book
Popular content creator and gospel musician Ariel Fitz-Patrick (who you may recognize with a blanket over her head playing her own sassy Guardian Angel) is “refreshingly vulnerable” ( Publishers Weekly ) as she shares candid stories of trusting God through life’s hardest seasons, offering humor, wisdom, and big-sister-style encouragement for anyone wanting to deepen their own faith.

“Is that you, God? Telling me not to do that thing that you know will turn out badly for me? Telling me to listen to your Word instead of my own foolish ideas? Yeah, imma have to see for myself ...” —Every Christian Ever.  We've all been there. We’ve all had moments where we heard God telling us to do that thing (or not do that thing) that’s been bouncing around in our heads for a while. Sometimes He tells us to stop complaining and start praying. Or He tells us to stop hanging out with that person who’s been a really bad influence. Or He warns us not to say those words to that person who cut us off in traffic, even though they absolutely deserved it!

Ariel Fitz-Patrick, gospel musician and TikTok star, has been exactly where you are. She’s been in a lot of situations where God asked her to trust Him even when she wanted to go her own way. There were lots of smaller moments when she was called on to trust God, like when her Caribbean father had strict rules she had to choose whether to follow or when friends pressured her to drink underage. She's also faced much harder moments, like when her family faced homelessness and deep betrayal from people in her own church, as well as times when Ariel wrestled with her own faith questions and uncertainty about what matters most. All of these moments, big or small, were opportunities from God to rely on Him. Everything around you will tell you that you can’t know for sure unless you see for yourself, but our faithful God knows what’s best for you every time.

In Imma See for Myself, Ariel shows how God brought her from heavy-burdened to blossoming—all because she was willing to trust Him even when she couldn’t see the whole path. She shares how you can grow in faith even in the most painful moments through both humorous and hard stories from her life, comedy skits, and wise advice from a girl who’s gone and seen for herself. Take it from her—go and SEEK Him for yourself!

This book shows that Ariel has had a moment to listen to God throughout her whole life. Her story shows that she can truly understand herself in many ways. Realizing the importance of listening to the word, especially while praying. Ariel was raised by a strict father and had to deal with homelessness in her family, as well as the pressure of drinking as a minor and other issues. The only person she relies on is God. Realizing that this is the only way she lives. This book is a very good read for those who are going through and have to keep going.

Thank you, Ariel Fitz-Patrick and Netgalley, for the opportunity to review this book before release!

As a follower of Ariel on TikTok for a few years, I was really excited when I saw she was releasing a book and even more excited when I received an arc. Her book was motivational, inspiring, and educational! Her biblical skits in the book were hilarious, and she does a very good job putting the skits in a modern telling so it's easier to understand.

I'm so excited to see where else her faith and hard work take her.

Congratulations on your book! Imma See for Myself releases on August 18th!

**Review of *Imma See for Myself* by Ariel Fitz-Patrick**

*Imma See for Myself* is not the kind of book I normally pick up, but it turned out to be a book I didn’t know I needed.

Ariel Fitz-Patrick and I come from backgrounds that are similar in some ways and very different in others, but so much of her story still felt familiar. She doesn’t take the reader on a simple journey from struggle to success. She lets you see the failures, the roadblocks, the bad decisions, the doubts, and the moments when the path forward wasn’t clear.

What I appreciated most was her willingness to test her faith rather than simply tell you about it. She asks questions. She wrestles with what she believes. And, maybe most importantly, she allows the reader to see her flaws and some uncomfortable truths about herself along the way.

There were several moments in this book that made me stop reading and think about my own life—about the difference between truth and tradition, about failure and success, and about whether we sometimes become more comfortable with what we know, even when what we know isn’t working.

That is what made this book work for me. I didn’t have to share every part of Ariel’s story to recognize pieces of myself in it.

I received a galley copy of *Imma See for Myself*, and I went into it not really knowing what to expect. I finished it grateful that I had been given the opportunity to read it. Sometimes the books outside your normal lane are the ones that find you at exactly the right time.

Imma See For Myself is the memoir of social media influencer Ariel Fitz-Patrick that explores not only her rise in career but also her faith journey from her younger years to now.

Each chapter explores a different aspect and just showcases how much the author has struggled with faith, which is tragically yet refreshingly familiar to so many. At the same time she explores how what could also be seen as failures and minor successes were all just paving the way while preparing her for her next big role.

Although I know it is not intentional, since of her "success" she makes it seem a bit formulaic and that if you do this than this is how everything responds. Not everyone can stay at home with small pay of bills while trying to figure out life. If you can you are blessed with a good supportive and knowing family but the majority of us are scraping along with broken dreams and/or shattered parts as we attempt to survive. Remember faith journeys are not one size fits all.

Tucked throughout are multiple sections, usually in small font, dedicated to theology. Some verses have been quoted but other portions are from other believers that she knows or sermons she has heard plus what she has leaned.

Only a very small amount of her skits have made it into the book.....

All in all it was an encouraging read and one that was amazing in regards to its honesty about what an actual Christian's faith journey may look like.

Review of advance copy received from NetGalley

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
It feels odd to review this book when so much of it is personal, both to the author and to the reader. It is a quick read and very inspiring. On a worldly level, Fitz-Patrick has overcome a lot of major setbacks in her life, but has also grown such a mature spiritual sense of self that I can only dream of achieving myself. My one disappointment is that there wasn't as much practical advice as I had hoped (as someone who sometimes struggles to hear God or to know what to listen for), but then again those experiences are so personal that one really does have to "see for oneself". I also would have liked more background about some of her personal practices that she mentions, like fasting, which is not something that any church I have ever attended has encouraged. Overall, though, it was a very easy and interesting read.

"Imma See for Myself" is one of the best books I've ever read.

This book follows Ariel Fitz-Patrick's journey through life as she faces major setbacks, but trusts God to the end; making the journey all worth it.

I have been following Ariel online for years now and when she announced that she's writing a book, I had to get it. And I was so excited when I was able to get an advanced readers copy! I thought it would be like any other 'influencer' book, but no. This book changed my life. It showed me unique understandings for so many parts of my walk with God.

During the time I was reading this book, I was going through a hard time spiritually. Ariel's writing helped that so much. I feel so at peace right now, It's unbelievable.

If you are going through a hard time right now, or just want to get a new perspective on what God can do in your life, read this book. I will 100% reread this every time I'm going through a challenging season.

Thank you Worthy Publishing and Goodreads for sending me an Advance Reader's Copy of this book!

This was a memoir about Ariel's life. She speaks on how she grew in faith and found the courage to follow God's plan. Within this book, she gives you steps and tips to help you on your own journey.

Some of the topics include:
- you're not sure God exists, but you're curious
- finding your own personal relationship with God outside or family or church folks
- overcoming church hurt
- how your blessings are tied to your faith and obedience

My favorite quote: "He knows how to take your worst experiences and fashion them into the very platforms that will catapult you into your destiny."

This is an easy read filled with skits , scripture references, and tips you can implement into your daily life.

This book surprised me in the best way. This memoir is Ariel Fitz-Patrick's reckoning with a faith she inherited but never chose, and it's so much more layered than the TikTok sketches let on.

The writing is warm and conversational and she's also just really honest in a way memoirs like this don't always manage. I loved learning about her upbringing and will always applaud when a person decides to discover their faith, their beliefs, their religion... by and for themselves.

If you grew up in church and are still figuring out which parts of it are actually yours, this one's for you.

I interviewed Ariel for my podcast, Babes in Bookland!

Ariel Fitz-Patrick has an amazing testimony, which I greatly appreciate her sharing with us. Her entire book is God honoring and encouraging. I would recommend this book for young adults especially as she spends a significant chunk discussing her childhood, and sooo many teens would benefit from hearing what she went through and how she relied on God. But don't let that deter you if you're an adult considering this title.. It never gets old hearing about God's goodness, provision, and providence! Testimonies that consistently point you back to God is a testimony done right! Lastly, if you enjoy Ariel on social media, you are going to like this just as much if not better! (Also, she reads this herself if you prefer the Audible route.)

This is that funny girl on Instagram that makes funny videos about talking to God and her guardian angel is desperately trying to keep her out of trouble! Wouldn't you know it, she is a pastor's child and had a crisis of faith. This book is great for anyone who believes in God but doesn't necessarily go to church every week and wants to get closer to Him. I loved that she dropped a few Bible verses, but it did not come across as preachy at all. This is not going to convert anyone, but will encourage you to give God a 2nd look. I recommend it for teens to 20s age group that is still trying to figure life out.

Read in a single day. I found Ariel on YouTube last year when I was new to the faith and pre ordered her book in February and was so excited when it arrived last week. I already know I’ll be revisiting it. Her walk with faith was so inspiring to read about and I’m grateful for her vulnerability. Can’t wait to see where she goes next and glad God put her in my path!

I really did enjoy this book. I enjoyed learning more about her journey with her walk with Christ and also how she came up with her videos. It was encouraging.
