Rate this book
Book Four of Five.

Four years of research, using the combined resources of five species of sentient beings, have brought Alicia MacGregor no closer to understanding how Humanity’s sibling species came into existence. Who was responsible for redirecting the natural course of evolution on four living worlds? Why did they do it? And can she find the answer before the Faceless render all such questions moot? For the Faceless are back with a vengeance, and as implacable as ever.

I am a writer living in the Sonoran Desert of the American Southwest, to which I relocated from my childhood home in Illinois. I have a B.S. in plant biology from the University of Arizona, and have in the past worked as a laboratory technician for that institution. Most recently I worked for Steward Observatory, as an inventory coordinator. Among other things, I am also a student of history, natural history, astronomy, and backyard horticulture.

Fabulous sci-fi plot, wonderfully complex characters, absorbing read

This book continues the fascinating story of five space-faring races of aliens (to each other) uniting to fight a frighteningly destructive, common enemy. The story is full of action and surprises told through the personal perspectives and experiences of key characters the reader has come to know well and care about. Much that occurred in the previous three books sets the stage for the unfolding of this story, including an earth-shattering discovery at the end. I must read book 5 to learn how the story concludes.
I highly recommend this series, and strongly advise you to read it in order for maximum enjoyment.

How did humanity’s sibling species come into being? Finding the answer might help the alliance of humans and aliens defeat their common enemy, the Faceless. But as the enemy takes over one star system after another, they’d better hurry or resistance will be futile. What I like about this series is that it follows several main characters, and the action unfolds from their viewpoints. It humanizes the space battles and makes these stories memorable.

Another crazy good addition to Watson's sci-fi series. Fascinating scientific issues are getting developed at this point in the series. And you finally find out why it's called the "Second Iteration."
