Xie Lian, once the darling of the heavens, is a twice-banished god infamous for his fall from grace. Eight hundred years have passed since his mortal life as the Crown Prince of Xianle, and he’s now the laughingstock of the three realms. So when he ascends to godhood for a third time, it causes an uproar among his divine peers. Ascension may be nothing new to Xie Lian, but this time he has no followers, little power, and less luck. To repay his heavenly debts, Xie Lian must descend to the Mortal Realm to hunt ghosts that prey upon the living. There, he encounters a mysterious stranger – but is this newcomer friend or foe . . . or something else entirely?
Volume 1 includes the prologue and episodes 1–14 of the original webcomic based on the webnovel Tian Guan Ci Fu published on JJWXC.
Thank you to Inklore for sending me a copy of this book. I liked this. I struggled a little bit with the world-building and the magic but I think it'll evolve as the comics continue. I may give this a go in novel format. I've heard incredible things.
since the comic has been released in English, i thought, why not also buy this version? (i already have all tgcf books in 2 versions but 🤫) this’ll be a reread, because i just love these books so so much 😋
This is a piece of art. Inklore did an UNBELIEVABLE job packaging and printing this, oh my god. They are the literal gold standard for me forever more. The quality of the paper--from the dust-jacket, to the binding, to the actual individual internal pages--is so high it's unreal. The tactile feel of the pages is such a pleasure, the visual experience of STARember's art is sublime, the typesetting was perfect, even the adaptation choices are delightful.
THE ART, THOUGH, is similarly indescribable. Every single page, every single panel, was a singular work of art that could be enlarged, framed, and enjoyed. I feel insanely blessed to own this book, which is such an odd thing to say, but so true.
Re: the story, I'm not sure how effective this would be for a first-time reader, but as a huge fan of the story already, this was a visual and physical joy in every way. 100/10, six stars out of five, crown this the best book of the century already, thank you.
Absolutely gorgeous. Everything about this book is beautiful, from the formatting of the cover, to the sprayed edges, to the illustrations themselves. Not only as the first novel been magnificently translated into graphic novel form, but STARember has truly done the characters justice with their art style. Specifically the wedding sedan scene has been captured incredibly and is as breathtaking in illustration as it was in the original novel. I look forward to reading the rest of the series as it's released.
