I have always loved reading and I was eight years old when I wrote my first award winning short story. Okay the only award it won was praise from my father. It was still an awesome story! It was about a princess and you can't go wrong writing about a princess. It was my first romance. Then in 7th grade I had a writing buddy. She waned to be a romance novelist. Now at this age I was reading things like Christopher Pike. It was challenging at first but I quickly got the hang of it. She would write ten pages or so and then I'd write the next ten pages. She handled the things we shouldn't have been penning on paper at thirteen. I was innocent. I run across one of those stories I saved from time to time. They always bring a smile to my face. It was my second dance with romance writing. I just can't shake the romance genre as an adult. To be honest I love when romance crosses over into something more literary, deep, mysterious, or even humorous. Many amazing books and movies have in common they carry a romance element. Before you judge the genre by the bodice ripping covers, purple prose, fainting females, and burly men read a few. You might discover some new favorites.
