Teonny’s life changed the night her abusive husband and four-year-old daughter died in a home invasion gone wrong.
Five years have passed, and she vowed to never love another human being again.
Prosper isn’t trying to hear none of that though. The moment he saw Teonny was the moment he knew she was the one.
For three years, they saw each other at the local gun range, getting familiar with one another. Still, Teonny refuses to let her guards down with him, but when men shoot up the gun range, aiming for Prosper, they take the threat down together and are forced to go into hiding.
The thing about hiding is that love can easily blossom there, and that’s exactly the case for Teonny and Prosper. Her guards slip, and love feels as natural as breathing with him.
But when Teonny’s past surfaces, and she learns that her biggest heartbreak may be tied up in Prosper’s current street beef, everything crumbles.
Teonny’s life is once again thrown into chaos. Now, she has the decision to trust the love she built with Prosper or let it die.
Very fast pace, loved that Prosper waited for her to be open and reciprocal to him and what he had to offer. That man was patient for 3 years, he knew what he wanted. TEONNY really did go through hard times with the loss of her daughter. Finding out that twist, damn I expected some of it but not the whole thing to be that disrespectfully diabolical. Damn Cyn just always writes captivating characters and storylines 💜💜
When I tell you Prosper was my type of man. That man knew what he wanted and was consistent for 3 years with teonny. He was patient and protecting of her. Teonny after everything that she had been through deserved to live a soft life and when she really opened up to him, she was able to be free and love someone who would never hurt her. I didn't really like Teonny mom, I felt like something was not right there, I agree with Prosper. I knew her mom was flaw, Damn the secrets that came coming...oh shit I def didn't see that. I don't feel bad for Teonny mom, she a awful bitch, i mean doing all that and knowing that her daughter dead husband use to beat her, that is some F*ck sh*t. Teonny getting the final say in how to handle things was the most hurtful and comforting thing I have read. My heart ached bad but I was happy she got her revenge but also got to live without having to take a life physically. I love how affirming Prosper was and that he really had her back in the best way.
It hurts when the person you love abuses you and dont care. Teonny went through a lot. It is sad to see women go through abuse. They dont always know how to leave. It hurtful to see that a robbery cost her losing her baby. She was able to get out of the relationship. Teonny meeting Prosper was a blessing. She didn't know how to allow another man in after going through everything. It took someone coming after Prosper for Teonny to open up. It was horrible to find out that Teonny on mother cause her to lose her daughter. You never know who your enemy is or who is jealous of you. I want angry, hurt, and cried from reading when Prosper found out it was Tameka that did everything. I am so glad everyone involved got what they need. The end was beautiful. I am glad Prosper and Teonny were able to go and live their happy lives.
This was a very fast paced story. Teonny was very guarded and closed off to love due to abuse and loss. But that didn’t stop Prosper from applying pressure (but patiently). After something happens that forces them to have to spend time together her walls slowly start to come down. I do have to say that I didn’t see the plot twist coming and it made me sad for Teonny. But the way that Prosper supported her through it was nice to see.
This was a heavy book! Teonny had endured so much hardship in life that, when she met Prosper, she kept him at a distance, even though her feelings were there. Prosper was everything she needed but didn't want at first. He was her peace and protector. He held her and challenged her when the time came. So happy to see Teonny get the life she deserved after everything that happened.
Teonny went through a lot, but Prosper handled her intentionally and with care. The information that was dropped on her was crazy. I don't know what I would've done in Teonny's place. Going through everything she went through and coming out sane, that's what's REAL. Happy Reading Y'all!💋
Cynners!! Were we not in for an amazing story. I love how Prosper poured into our girl Teonny. He was a man of his word. I, like Teonny would trust him with my everything. Now that damn Tameka. I dont want to say too much but baby. Cyn you have done it again. Keep up the good work cant wait to see what is next
This was a bangerrr!! Teonny experienced a loss no woman should have to go through and closed herself off from love, but babyyy in comes Daddy Patrick “Prosper”. This man applied pressure for three years and came through on everything he said he was and wasnt gonna do. CYN Strikes again this was a 10/10
I think you might like "Only the Real Prosper" by Cyn. This chicks pen game has had me in a losing sleep. Unable to put these books down this week. Last night was no different.
🔥🔥🔥🔥 I truly enjoyed Teonny and Prosper’s story! * the sheer audacity 😤 *his smooth patience 😍 *her resilience 💪🏿
"He had been so in awe of her. He still was, but now, with that awe came a bit of sadness. She’d clearly programmed herself to be a machine, and he didn’t want that for her. If any woman deserved to be in her soft girl era, it was Teonny."
Cyn!! What a storyteller ma'am! 🥰 My emotions were in overload as I felt for Teonny, and the treatment she received at the hands of her husband! 🤬 Then her worst fear is realized, when she loses her husband and daughter, in a home invasion/robbery! She could care less about her husband, but her sweet Angel! 💔 Teonny spends the next few years trying to heal her heart, mind, and spirit from her trauma. She found solace in the gun range. Promising herself that she would never again be put in a situation where she couldn't protect herself or her loved ones! There she meets the handsome and persistent Prosper. Although she is not interested in men or love for that matter!
When an incident at the gun range puts both Teonny and Prosper in harm's way, they go into hiding together until they figure out what happened. While there Teonny's defenses lower, and she becomes more receptive to Prosper's advances, to his delight.
The pieces are coming together about the ambush and Prosper doesn't know what to do with the information he has learned. When Teonny finds out all that went down on the night that changed her life, she is hurt and angry! 🥹🤬 She never in a million years would have thought that this person/person's would have been involved!! Just grimy! 🤯😤 An already fragile Teonny then spirals into further despair! 😢 But Prosper would not let his girl go through this alone. He would be there with her every step of the way, until he is able to bring her smile back. What a read! 👍🏿👍🏿
Whew chile! What a story! This book hurt my feelings in the quietest, most intentional way.
Only the Real Prosper is heavy, not just because of what happens, but because of how patiently it lets Teonny exist inside her pain. Nothing about her healing is rushed or romanticized, and I appreciated that so much. She doesn’t magically bounce back, she survives, she hesitates, she protects herself, and that felt real.
Prosper is the kind of man who doesn’t need grand speeches to prove who he is. He shows up consistently, waits without pressure, and lets Teonny decide what love looks like on her own terms. That restraint made him stand out. His presence felt steady, grounding, and earned, not performative.
What really sealed this for me was how the story handled justice and closure. The emotional fallout mattered just as much as the twists, and the resolution didn’t rely on shock alone. It focused on Teonny reclaiming control over her life, her choices, and her future, and that mattered more to me than any dramatic payoff.
This was painful, affirming, and deeply satisfying. A story about grief, trust, and choosing yourself again, even when loving someone feels terrifying. Cyn delivered, and this one stayed with me long after I closed the book.
This was just right. The drama with Ghost didn’t take over the story, and it didn’t take forever to find him either. I mean at least the way the story was written it didn’t take long. The story was very straight to the point. And like many others have stated, I love the way the author didn’t rush the MFC through her grief. It was perfectly written. Now I will say imo this was a short story, which normally I dodge like a plague. BUT this was written right. I don’t feel like I was missing anything. There wasn’t much background on the characters, but it was enough to move the story along and follow with ease. It’s been a long time since I have a 5 star review but this was well deserved.
I had to come back and add. The man on the cover is fine lol. I don’t even like men with braids anymore but he got it right.

Y’all… this book had me HOOKED from page one. We follow Teonny, an ex-photographer who’s been through hell—her daughter and abusive husband were killed in a home invasion, and now she’s scared to let anyone back into her heart. She doesn’t know who to trust anymore… and honestly? I didn’t either. 😩 Then comes Prosper—aka Patrick. A street nigga with a soft spot, a protector, a lover, the kind of man who steps in right when her world is falling apart. Chemistry? CRAZY. The tension? EVEN CRAZIER. 🔥 Just when you think things are settling… family secrets start dropping left and right. I was clutching the book like 😳 the whole time. If you like trauma, healing, hood love, and secrets that shake the whole plot—yeah, this one’s for you.
Wow!! This book had everything that I wasn't expecting to read about. There was drama, betrayal and on the edge of the seat moments. Prosper and Teonny had been friends for the past three years when Teonny was able to come to his rescue at a crucial time. Teonny had gone through a catastrophic event, and she didn't want to risk being hurt by love again. However, Prosper showed her patience and love thus giving way to them forming a great love story. This is a book that I highly recommend. You definitely won't be able to put it down just like me.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Only the Real Prosper — A Powerful, Unputdownable Read
OMG—this book was everything! Only the Real Prosper by Cyn had me hooked from the very first page. It was exciting, emotional, and packed with moments that kept my heart racing. A true page-turner that I finished in the same day because I simply could not put it down.
This was my first book by this author, and it definitely won’t be my last. Cyn knows how to pull you into the story and make you feel every emotion right along with the characters.
This one right here had me mad, mad! I wanted to lay hands myself on Teonny’s behalf. It’s always the devil in sheep’s clothing! Prosper was a good dude. He kept an eye on Teonny, getting to know her slowly and in doing so was able to help her piece together what happened to her daughter and ex. What Teonny went through was heartbreaking and to know it was so senseless is crazy!
A new author for me. Only the Real Prosper was an emotionally action-related story for Peanut & her beau Prosper. After much heart break losing her little girl Angel & husband in a home invasion robbery, she planned to never open up to love again. But Prospect became her protector. Lovely read by the author Cyn.
I would recommend this one and plan to check out more of this author's work. I gave this book a 5 🌟 rating.
My mouth was on the floor after Ghost told all the secrets 😳
You don’t need enemies when you have a mom like Teonny’s. Her mother was behind ALL of her pain & trauma. Hell is hot!
Prosper came in her life & never left. He protects, love, & speak positivity over Teonny. Those three years of chasing her at the gun range finally paid off 😏
This was a good book. A really good back. I was so locked in I don’t think I blinked. lol This right here was not predictable and it kept you turning the pages. So happy that Teonny was able to find love again and was able to love again because baby she went through. Job well done Cyn. Now let me go on out hea and find me my Patrick (swoon)
Just when you thought you could trust ya mama this one goes and does some slime ball ish. Cyn, you get me with these MMC & FMC 🥰🥰 then I gotta look at these side characters sideways. Peanut didn’t like that boy for GOOD reason! I just hate she had to lose all that for her HEA. Prosper ❤️ Peanut downnnnn
Prosper had the right love to heal and restore Teonny! I’m so glad they bonded and protected each other as soon as danger showed up. I felt bad for Teonny her own momma 🤦🏽♀️
I love how Prosper and Tenant came together. Prosper knew what he wanted and was intentional about it. Trophy deserved a man like Prosper, she went through so much. It's a must read!
A good, quick read that wasn’t predictable. The plot twist was crazy. Prosper referred to Teonny as a “real one” often, but he was that too. Patient and protective. Glad Teo got her HEA
This Story took a turn o wasn’t expecting. I knew it was something up with Tasha the whole time, Prosper called it. I did think Ghost was her Dad. Perfect ending to a great story.
