A former dark-ops soldier, Amos Carver, protects a Texas ranch family after destroying a sex‑trafficking empire and redistributing its millions, only to find a hard‑edged mercenary team (ex‑Delta) hired to recover the money and silence loose ends. As federal investigations and political machinations converge, Carver and allies (NSA-aligned investigator Liana Cardoso and others) must outwit cartel proxies, corrupt local power, and ruthless veterans in a violent, escalating dead‑man’s war.
Carver is still in Texas, staying with the rancher who cared for a number of the abused/trafficked girls from the last book. He's sticking around to keep an eye on things should there be repercussions from the Espinoza cartel demise.
There are problems for the rancher-his neighbor is killing his "trespassing" cattle and things are escalating. Strangers aka mercenaries (former Delta operators) appear at the ranch looking for millions of dollars Of course Carver can't abandon the rancher and his family, so he with the help of former NSA agent Cardoso look into these mercenaries, fighting them, the bully neighbor and a stranger that seems to be following Carver. Local law enforcement, Texas Rangers are more interested in Carver than the harassment.
The storyline is a bit repetitive (chases, fights are abundant) but the good guy wins.
I keep saying that the Amos Carver series gets better with every book, and it sounds unbelievable, but it's true. Carver accidently put a good family at risk just because they helped him (from the last story). He will do everything he can to protect them. This family is also being attacked on another front, people are being assassinated, bad guys abound - and somehow all these threads are woven cleverly together to make a compelling and action packed story that I just couldn't put down. Enough of the events from the previous story are explained to where you could just pick up this book and enjoy it, but if you like excellent thrillers, I strongly recommend starting this series from the first book. You'll see what I mean; each story is terrific and they build on each other.
Good conclusion to a story line that has been carried through a couple of the books. Looking forward to the next since there are some clues that Carver may be getting back to the roots of what started him on his adventures. Of course Carver still just wants to end up on a beach where he can just relax.
what a brilliant series’s can hardly wait for more
A very interesting character as the hero of this series each story is well thought out and delivered with a constant thread it will keep you longing for more as the lead character develops !!!!!!!
I enjoy the Amos Carved series, and Dead Mans War is no exception. I found several errors that normally would lose a star from me, but the surprising twist at the end brought it back to five stars. I did not see it coming!
