Riley’s been alone in the woods for a long time. Turned as a child, he’s hungrier and more fractured than the average vampire, and staying clear of humans is his safest bet. His moms think a mate could help him stabilize, but it’s unclear whether Riley has one, anomaly that he is. Until a new baker arrives in town, smelling so sweet and so perfect that Riley can barely stop himself from eating him up on the spot. Now it’s no longer a question of whether Riley has a mate, but whether Riley can pretend to be less of a monster long enough to woo him.
Romance has never been Seth’s priority. He’s always been more focused on family and friendships and his passion for feeding delicious baked goods to whoever will take them. So it’s odd that this too young, too quiet, too beautiful man keeps showing up at Seth’s door, looking at Seth like he’s something special instead of painfully ordinary. And it’s even more odd that Seth can’t keep his own boundaries straight or his hands to himself. And it’s maybe oddest of all that Seth is coming to feel like Riley’s unnerving, unwavering attention is something he might not be able to live without.
Don’t Feed the Vampire is a heated MM paranormal romance with a HEA and no cliffhanger. It contains a broken, sweetheart vampire with zero social skills; a ray of sunshine human baker; fated mates and the vampire mothers determined to protect them; and a mysterious research institute raising everyone’s suspicions. Each book in this series will focus on a different couple.
Grae Bryan has been reading romance since she was far too young to know any better. Her love for love stories spans all genres, and while her current series is of the paranormal variety, she knows she’ll be exploring other worlds further down the line.
She lives in Arizona with her husband, who graciously shares space with all the imaginary men in her head. When not writing, she can generally be found reading more than is healthy, walking her monster-dog, or cuddling her demon-cat. She loves anything and everything gothic, strange, lovely, or cozy.
I fell in love with Riley when we met him as a child in the Vampires' Maters series, and I was so excited to find out we were getting a connected series that would start with his book!
Riley is all grown up (well he's 19), and still struggling with having been turned as a child. Watching him face that trauma, how it effects his relationships (or lack thereof), and overcoming it to build something real with Seth was amazing. Seth himself was so real, trying to find where he fits in this new world he's found himself in, and not letting the mate bond dictate his actions.
When we first met the Colorado den, their book's very much focussed on the group of friends finding their mates, with their drama in the background but rooted in friendship all the same. This started in much the same way, focussing on Riley, his struggles, and finding his mate in Seth, but grew to be something so much more. The underlying storyline with the research institute intrigues me, bringing more suspense and grittiness to the story, and hinting at what's to come with new species, new mates, and yet still that undercurrent of fated mates and obsessive love that drew me to Grae's books.
Can't not highlight the Wolfe and Eric cameo, with Wolfe being his usual psycho self - LOVED.
I adore the world that Grae has built here, and the way all her series are linking together and building into something more. Can't wait to see where this series goes next.
❤️ “Tame the monster within while providing a haven for the lost boy?” ❤️
This was so incredibly cute. I’m excited to see where this series is gonna go. It was a pretty strong start for a new series. Honestly, to get like the entire impact, you need to read the vampires mates series and the Demon bound series. It’s all tied in together. It’s actually pretty cool.
Riley and Seth were so sweet together. Riley’s so chaotic and I would hate to be in his brain. But I also love how by the end him and the vampire side of him started to actually mesh together, which was what I was hoping would happen. I love that we got him all grown up. And I love the aspect that Seth wants to protect Riley. I mean, I know they want to protect each other but it’s really sweet to see the human fight for the vampire. There’s just something about that aspect that I’m just drawn to. The moms. “Sneaky, tricky, high-handed vampires.” I laughed so many times. Talk about mama bears. I can’t wait for the next book. It’ll be interesting to see Graes take on other paranormal creatures.
❤️ “Vampire. Man. Monster. Boy. Every part of Riley belonged to Seth, just as every part of Seth belonged to Riley in turn.” ❤️
Grae Bryan is one of the few authors I've encountered who knocked it out of the park from her debut release and hasn't let me down since. Seth was a ball of sunshine throughout the Demon Bound series, and I'm thrilled he's getting his happy ending in this one. Riley, who we met at the end of the Vampire's Mate series, has grown up, and it's fun to see him use his sneaky charm to woo Seth (in his own fashion).
The small-town setting on the Washington coast is fun, and there are some quirky characters I'm looking forward to seeing in future stories. I think I had to use suspension of disbelief more on the idea that a 26-year-old baker could afford to move to WA and set up his own shop than on the existence of vampires and demons, but I don't even care because I loved it all!
If you haven't read Benny's novella, An Unwitting Bargain, I highly recommend doing so. Not only is it delightful, but some of the things he says here will be so much funnier in context.
This might be my favorite Grae book of all time (and I'm a Grae superfan so that's definitely saying something).
This book has SO much hurt going along with it. We've seen Seth be truly just a sunshine side character in all the demon books, and he remains that, but Riley is just carrying so much hurt inside. Seeing him talk to himself about how he needed to act to woo Seth was at times heartbreaking, but also at times would make me laugh out loud and it was just such a wonderful balance of the light and the dark.
One thing I love with Grae's world is you never know what you're going to get. There's a "fated mate" template that could easily be followed, and I'm sure it would still be fantastic, but instead each story is so unique and special and just utterly enchanting. It hurts so good at times, it's so freaking sweet, and there's, of course, an action plotline that you know is going to masterfully be woven throughout the whole series.
I LOVED being back in this world!! I’m so happy Seth and Riley got their story!! Riley was intense and so adorable. I loved how much he cared for Seth and tried to put his own needs aside to make sure Seth was comfortable with their dynamic and how content he was just being at Seth’s side. I also loved that Seth refused to allow Riley to put himself second. They were a team and Seth did his best to make sure Riley understood this. That what they both wanted mattered and that they both deserved to be happy. Seeing their relationship develop was fun! Baking together was sweet! The side characters were great! Violet was hilarious and we always love to see Benny! I enjoyed the cameos and I’m so glad I picked this up!
Rating: 5/5 🌟 Spice: 3/5 🌶️ Heroes: Riley and Seth
I was completely obsessed with this from the very first page. I really loved the growth of their friendship and then into more. I loved the inclusion of some of our favorite characters from other books/series. It had great side characters. A real danger that was believable and thankfully didn't last long and had a satisfying resolution. And my absolute favorite part...Riley. This little shy, lost puppy, innocent "broken" vampire. Seriously, I am in love with him. I could have read 300 more pages of him doing normal daily things and learning and growing.
I’m not crying, you are. This story is so satisfying. Riley was introduced in Wolfgang as a feral child turned into a vampire. To see him grown up and happy is everything.
Seth was introduced in Wreaking Havoc as the sweet local baker. His cousin Benny is from An Unwitting Bargain. While part of a larger, interconnected world, Don’t Feed the Vampire stands on its own. There are cameos with characters from the other series.
Riley and Seth are so sweet together. Watching Riley settle into himself and gain confidence is the best. I’m excited to see what new paranormal creatures will be introduced next in the series.
I read Seth and Riley's story via Patreon and am confident you will love it. There are cameos from BOTH the Vampire's Mate and Demon Bound as Seth is from Demon Bound & Riley is from Vampire's Mate. I loved seeing 'grown up' Riley, and how much of a caretaker Seth really is, also how Riley is strong in his own way. Expect two soft boys: one baker & one stunted vampire, two meddling mothers, one observant-overeager-badass teenager (<3 Violet), soft possessiveness, a threat to all paranormals, a lot of orange themed desserts, and our favorite resident psychopath cameo.
Grae Bryan’s paranormal books never let me down! I loved this start to a new series and to see Riley from Wolfgang and Colin get his well deserved HEA. I really liked the balance between character and plot, and thought things were well set up for future books in the series and possible overarching villians/plot points. Riley and Seth were really well suited and the portrayal of Riley’s trauma and Seth’s support was heartwarming. Can’t wait for the next costal creatures book!
I am so happy to be back with the vampires in a whole new small town. I loved the little snippets we got of Seth in the previous series and he did not disappoint with his undying sunshine energy. Riley and Seth were just too sweet together. I am so looking forward to future couples and maybe even getting some more of the sassy Violet as well.
Read the book on Patreon And Grae Bryan didn’t disappoint 😋😋
Loved Reilly in Wolfgangs book & was excited to see him again and see how he’d end up. Loved Seth when we met him in Sasha’s book had a good attitude & hoped he got his own book. Can’t wait for more in this new series❤️❤️
