Award-winning author Cindy Stark lives in a small town nestled beneath the Rocky Mountains. Whether she's writing magical cozy mysteries, slow-burn paranormal romance, or emotional romantic suspense, her stories are filled with lovable characters, mystery, humor, and heart.
She’d like to think she’s the boss of her three adorable and sassy cats, but deep down, she knows she’s ruled by kitty overlords. Someday, she hopes to earn enough to open a cat sanctuary where she can rescue all the kitties and play all day with toe beans and murder mittens.
A horrible windstorm hits the area and Kalie closed up her shop and came home with her little familiar, Butternut. She is watching the storm from inside when her adoptive Grandmother, Mary Mae, has a vision and warns Kalie to do something to save a life. So she calls Tara to save the guy, who is closest to her. Then we find out that everyone is ok, but during the storm, one of the townies died. We find out that the man Tara saved is Garry, Nick’s father. I really don’t like him. He is a closed minded jerk.
I especially don’t like how he treats Kalie and Butternut. Even Nick, to some extent. Just because he doesn’t believe someone, doesn’t mean he has to be rude all of the time!
There is so much more to Garry than we knew. The book gave me a bit of a headache and I didn’t know what to believe at first with all of the clues, etc. All I knew, was that my fave characters needed to be ok. Butternut is just so cute in this book! She is beginning to come into her powers more and soon she and Kalie will be even more powerful. I loved the ending.

A severe storm blows into Mystic bringing both destruction and the uncovering of dark secrets after a dead body is discovered. Nick is sidelined from the case when his visiting father becomes a prime suspect. The victim’s ties to the meditation center also put Kalie’s mentor in the crosshairs. Determined to expose the truth, Kalie and her plucky familiar Butternut follow every lead. Will their efforts bring peace or pain to those they love?
Another fantastic entry in Cindy Starks charming Mystic Village series. I love the bond between Kalie and Butternut and enjoy seeing it deepen with each book. Butternut’s magic growing stronger was a nice surprise for both Kalie and the readers. I also love how supportive Nick was to Kalie especially in the face of his father’s disapproval. The mystery was well plotted and the perpetrator came as a surprise to me. Already looking forward to my next visit with these characters.

A storm is brewing in the magical town of Mystic, when a woman is found deceased on the side of the road. Suspicions are on high alert, especially when she's been found near a car owned by Nick's father. Did the deceased have any known enemies? A boyfriend maybe or a connection to Nick's father? It didn't look like an accident to Nick. Due to a conflict of interest, Nick is taken off the case. Now Kalie and her familiar Butternut will be working overtime, unofficially, to get any information that might help find the murderer.
Great story! Characters you could see yourself being friends with, and a storyline that keeps you turning the pages waiting for the perpetrator to be revealed! Kalie and her detective boyfriend Nick, with a little help from Butternut and a few magical friends, are dedicated to keeping their small town safe. A definite must read!!!
This is such a charming series! Do start at the beginning if at all possible, though you can read this as a stand-alone.
In this book, a severe storm hits Mystic, and a body turns up by a wrecked car. Nick's dad is one of the main suspects.
Kalie and her adorable, sweet kitty familiar, Butternut, investigate to find the truth as to what happened.
This book, as the others in the series, have a well written story-line, with wonderful characters, lovely descriptions, mystery, magic, and a lovely touch of romance (I adore Kalie & Nick!).
I highly recommend this book and the entire series, for reading to warm your heart.
More, please!!.

Little Butternut got to help Kalie out with this case a little more than usual—she’s a sweet little kitty familiar who was growing into her powers which could definitely come in handy. When Nick’s dad was considered a suspect in a local woman’s murder, Kalie wanted to help Nick prove his innocence. Since Nick was sidelined for being too close, he kinda relied on Kalie and Butternut to keep him updated.
I hadn’t guessed the right killer and was happy for a peaceful showdown, something Butternut had a paw in. I’m eager to see what happens next time in Mystic.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by BookSprout, and my opinions are my own.
Mystic Spirits finds Kalie and Butternut working overtime to clear Nick's father, a suspect in the latest homicide. I have read enough books in this series that these characters are starting to feel like family! There are so many suspects, clues, twists, red herrings and more. Just when I would think I knew who the murderer was, something would change. This well plotted mystery kept me reading straight through the book. I had to find out how it would end. Once again, Ms. Stark has provided excellent entertainment as I discovered more about the recurring characters and another mystery gets solved!
Book 8 of Mystic Village Paranormal Cozy Mysteries. For maximum enjoyment read the books in series order.
'A warm, clue-driven paranormal cozy mystery featuring a witch sleuth, a magical familiar, and a small-town murder filled with secrets, shifting suspicions, and a touch of magic.'
The characters were very appealing and likeable and quirky and mysterious and compelling. Plot was intriguing and exciting and well paced. World building was solidly drawn and impressive. All in all a great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend.

connections between folks can be tangled, subtle, and sometimes as sneaky as clever roaming gnomes.
I come from a Swedish family from my grandmother. The old aunties and Grama always said what gnomes might do, you could never be certain, but you should pay attention to what they've done.
tangled interpersonal connections can sometimes turn criminal, possibly accidentally.
I very much enjoy the sneaky supernatural elements, the clever kitty and others, and the baggage laden adult romances, and those seem even more complicated with extended friends and family added into the how you connect and interact with each other equations.
The violent storm that engulfs Mystic, Arizona, leaves behind a scene of damage: downed trees, power outages, a totaled car, and a body. When the victim’s death is determined to be murder and suspicion falls on Nick Monroe’s father, Nick is removed from the investigation. That leaves Kalie and Butternut on their own to solve the case.
This is a good witchy cozy. There is good character interaction. Butternut and Kalie are becoming more powerful as their bond grows. This is a fun series. I received an advance copy, but my review is honest and voluntary.
This series has been so fun to read. I love the bond between Kalie and Butternut. Of course, Nick and Kalie are great together too. I really want to go to Mystic Arizona; everything sounds so good there; I'd love to live there. Of course, the magic is pretty awesome too. The storylines are good, keeps you guessing throughout with just enough hints to make you think one thing and then Wham! something happens and you have another suspect. Very good series. This author is very imaginative and writes well.

A cosy, magical murder mystery series that is enjoyable for Kalie and Nick's relationship as much as for the murders that occur in the small town of Mystic. Kalie and her familiar Butternut help Nick to solve local murders, and in between, their relationship blossoms with a little magic on the side! This series is a lovely, fun, clean and cosy read with lovely characters and enjoyable escapism.

I'm never disappointed with anything that Cindy Stark writes. I really like these characters and the plot, and think how does she come up with these plots? As long as she keeps writing good, interesting tales, I'll keep reading them. Can't wait to read the next installment.

Mystic Spirits: A Paranormal Cozy Mystic Village Mystery book 7
This one is deep into family and romantic relationships. A storm a murder, and a wandering gnome with a message. Love the characters especially Butternut.
I especially like that in spite of being educated, highly intelligent people, this family has to really work hard to deal with their assumptions, prejudices and plain old stubbornness. However they continue to persevere in spite of themselves.
Another good book, Kalie and Butternut have a new investigation involving someone close to Nick. Entertaining characters and story. I would recommend it.
