When werewolf Yves Diamond happens on a multi-vehicle crash on a Manitoba highway, he ignores the danger and rescues Will Mandel from a burning car. The moment he sets eyes and hands on Will, Yves knows the man belongs in his life. If Will survives his injuries.
Waking days later in a hospital, Will is confused by the presence of a man the nurses believe is his relative. But something in him recognizes that Yves is meant to be in his life. As Will’s recovery continues and Yves visits him frequently, the connection between the two grows into something neither can ignore–and neither dares to admit.
Werewolf law prohibits telling humans that werewolves exist–and once Yves’s Alpha learns about the visits with Will, he forbids Yves any further contact with the human. Having Will has changed Yves’s life for the better, but their bond might be severed before it can fully form.
This zero spice, slow burn story includes description of a vehicle accident scene; fears of losing mobility that border on ableism; and references to PTSD. The story is set in the Real Werewolves Don't Eat Meat universe but is not part of that series.

Would I have liked this more if I had read and was invested in the series it's related to? Maybe. But as a standalone, it really didn't work for me. 🫤 I didn't particularly like either of the MCs, which is obviously not a great start. There was nothing wrong with Yves at all, but there was also nothing right with him... other than, I suppose, his devotion to Will - which was never really explained but felt like it was implied as a fated mate's thing, even though he denied that that's what it could be? The thing is, though, if you're going to imply it then go hard with it, otherwise what's the fun of reading about shifters, mates, and the connection that is otherwise basically insta love? And then there's Will, who had nothing particularly likeable about him, either. His attitude after the accident was super shitty, and while all those feelings of anger are completely understandable in the situation, there's a way I've seen authors write that kind of emotional experience that really makes me feel invested in the character and empathetic with their situation. That was not the case here. He just came across as abrasive and unpleasant, and then randomly decided he believed Yves when Yves told him he was a werewolf, despite never seeing him shift or having any other proof? I would have bought that (maybe) with some fated-mates justification, but instead all we get is a really unpleasant pack dynamic structure, worldbuilding rules in regard to the werewolves that aren't fun at all, a relationship developing that had no real substance to it (and yes, Yves, I *do* think it's creepy that you jerked off to fantasies of fucking your maybe-boyfriend who you've only known during traumatic recovery in a hospital bed while you two were apart), and... well, I'm ranting, and honestly, the book is so short it's not worth it. Note to self, though: reading this one reminded me why I gave up on the related series after the first book I tried by this author, so I guess lesson (re-) learned, and that's worth... something? 🤣

This is in the world of Karenna's Real Werewolves Don't Eat Meat more exactly part of the spinoff Ebb and Flow. It's best read after Ebb and Flow but I think can stand alone pretty fine. A few things I liked...no...loved about this book....its part of Karenna's werewolf world and I just love her take on Werewolves. I liked that though it's part of that world its also unique in itself as well. I loved both Ives and Will. I loved how they met. I love the sort of mates storyline...now that brings me to the part of ...I can't say didnt like because thats not the right wording. But let's go with id liked more of. I'd liked to have more of the bond they have, more detail on it and what it leads to. More about Will's possible job. And just more of this story altogether. So I will say how about more please and while I'm asking... no... begging, pleading, whining ...lol yes I'm on me knees for more Ives and Will how about more Quinn and Malachai and yes here's the real plead...Silas. lol So if you love Werewolves and a great romance and want non sparkly Werewolves but some humor too pick up Salad on the side the first RWDEM and Ebb and Flow though you need to read through Quinn's first book. You wont regret it. Yes I'm trying to keep at least spin-offs of this series going since its close to the end lol.
