"And beneath the rain-soaked streets, something older than law is watching—waiting to balance the scales."
However you think this book is going to go, you're wrong. I need you to accept this right now, and I'll say it again. What you think you know, you don't, you're incorrect, and you will be yelling at the book, and at Yvonne. Then you will be sitting at the edge of the bed, just staring at the wall. Or, like me, overcooking my noodles to the point of them falling apart, because I could not bring myself back into this realm.
I am one of the odd ones out, as I LOVE detail. Give me 100 extra pages of the most detailed detail you can muster. This book did that, and more. I feel the story, rather than see it, and I will say, Boston was the best place for this story to take place. It wouldnt have worked if it were set anywhere else.
Everything about the book had an eerie feel to it. Eerily familiar, as if you've read this story before. The way the characters behave is unusual in the best, and weirdest sense of the word. The world building, although mortal Boston, makes it seem as if you've already been there. Whether in real life, or a dream, who knows? Both have an otherworldly 👀👀 feel to them, and all words Yvonne writes have significance. Pay careful attention to words you don't think matter, because I assure you, they do. Every word is a clue, and every sentence is an intention.
If you don't believe in reincarnation, you'll believe in something after the book ends. And then you'll be impatiently waiting for the next book to wreck your life, and make you question reality.
Overall, 5/5, and I need everybody to read this at least once in your life, because nothing is as it seems.
