Kutura B definitely started with all gas no breaks in episode 3! I mean we know how episode 2 ended so thus was definitely a “skip the pleasantries” moment.
This story definitely touched on some real life topics that are happening daily! From police brutality, to fraudulent parents, past childhood traumas and generational curses.
My favorite character in the story.. Trinity hands down lol. Mini Tasha is going to be a forced to be reckoned with when she gets older! Mikki is probably who I’m most disappointed at, like GIRL get it together lol. I still highly dislike Dreka just as much as I did in episode 1 🤷🏽♀️.
And let’s not even get on these men folk… Jah continues to leave me speechless with his idiotic behavior and Coogi is still THE MAN! There were a couple of people I was mad that they were still breathing lol, but you’ll have to read and see if they survived 👀…
To sum it up…. The Slums are definitely still slumming, the ghetto is ghettoing & this gritty story just keeps getting better! Episode 4, is that you??

This was such a wild ride. I am on edge. This feels like reading the most ratchet ass tv show ever. Dreka is so dense it’s not funny. Like every decision she makes is wrong. Mikki needs rehab if she survives this ish. Tasha has to let here sister go. Those drugs got her. At this point helping her is repeatedly proven that she’s allowing her loyalty to her sibling harm her and her kids.

Oh, Mikki! It just keeps getting worse. & Idk if I was supposed to laugh at the last scene with Tekk, but he blew me. Now I can't unsee it, just nastyyyyyyyyy.
Dreka is mixing with too many different people for me. This girl does not have any street smarts.
Tasha is fed up at this point, but it seems like she is getting her happily ever after. We are about to see, though.
My favorite side characters are Daf and the daughters. They be having me rollin' with their commentary, Lol.

I was hoping that mikki would get herself together but she’s just a lost cause atp smh, idk really love for her to get herself together & get her family back.
I don’t need ANYMORE bad coming to Tasha & Cooji, let my family live in peace please! lol they deserve a break!!
Dreka, crazy enough I actually hope that she finds some good with “white chocolate”, she actually became a character I enjoyed in part 3 even though shes still trash for sleeping with Jah & being a terrible friend.

The SLUMS Don’t Love No One!!
Like always, the SLUM don’t love anyone. The monkey some people have on their back is the reason they don’t leave slums. It’s their safe haven. The slums know everyone business. Some make it out and some don’t. Those that don’t usually just adapt to their environment. No secret is safe. Let’s chat!
The monkey is something else and Mikki is experiencing that first hand. She down bad😔. She can’t win for losing. Ya girl living foul and stanking🤭. Like how many hands she going to take🤭. Every time you turn around someone was putting hands on her! This jealousy thing she now has with Tasha has me confused🤔! Seems as it was ok for her to live that good life but Tasha can’t. Then she turn around and cross the only person who still had her back and honestly wanted help🥹! She had no shame at all. Mikki has hit rock bottom and don’t want admit it.
Tasha deals with a lot of past trauma when come to relationships and she slightly worked my nerves when it came to her & Coogi😒. Like girl this man making moves while locked up. The man sending people to you when needed. Like honey is you cool 🤭! What I will say is she didn’t play about her kids especially Jah. The situation with Jah and Dreka has left my girl speechless. Tasha had every right to feel the way she feels about Dreka. If she wasn’t pregnant, it be all bad for her. Tasha wants to put hands on her so bad🤭. Oh and Trinity, she’s going to give her a run for her money. Babygirl play no games 🤭! Then the situation with Mikki, my girl is hurt but she tried. However, when Mikki crossed her, it was all bad🫣. Love didn’t live there anymore. That love between her and Coogi. Love a good second chance love and to see it level up. The question I have, is will it stay that way? Cause that ending🤔!
Dreka has now became the SLUM mascot 🤭. Yep I said what I said. She worked every nerve I have. Like girl do you even know who your baby daddy is? Like first it was Rico and now is Jah🤔. Not only that you put that man on paper. Again, are you cool babygirl? Ya girl Dreka was a Karma magnet🤭. She couldn’t win for losing. She had no one in her corner except Daf. Now I have to admit I loved me some Daf🤏🏾🤏🏾. She (him) played no games when it came to Dreka and the baby Deuce! You would think she learned her lesson when she had to sit down, but she didn’t at all. You would think she would change her was once she had a baby, but again she didn’t😔. She a magnet to the shenanigans in the slums. Then it’s like girl when are you going to learn your lesson when it comes to Butta. This fool is no good and how you get them hands twice in one day 🤣! She going to allow Butta to cause her to possible losing a good one - Riggs. However, there’s some not right with him🤔! Only time will tell.
Listen there’s so much to tap in about the read - Coogi, Jah, Detective Bradley and Riggs. However, I know my girl not done quite yet🫣. The way she tapped into the how the slums/projects really can be🤏🏾! This reminds me of the slums back in the Bay from the drugs, fiends, 5 woman to one man and the DL men. The read had me feeling as if I was sitting on the stoop being nosey🤭🤣! Can’t wait for the next episode!

Three episodes into The Slums, and Tasha has become the character I understand on an entirely different level.
To me, Tasha represents the first woman in a cycle who decides she's going to try to break that motherfucker.
And TRY is important. Because breaking a generational cycle isn't one decision you make and suddenly everything that came before you disappears.
You can create a better environment for yourself and your children. You can make different choices. You can physically remove yourself from the places and circumstances you're trying to escape.
And still fuck up.
Because you're simultaneously trying to build something you've never experienced while unlearning everything that was normalized for you.
You're fighting the demons that came with the cycle while battling the connections you still have to the people, places, and things you're trying to escape from.
And then there's the obligation.
What happens when you're trying to build something different for yourself while still feeling responsible for people you love who have absolutely no interest in leaving the cycle with you?
THAT shit is hard.
Tasha isn't interesting to me because she's perfectly broken a cycle. She's interesting because she's BREAKING it.
Present tense. Messily. Imperfectly.
And while Tasha has become the character I empathize with most, Mikki and Dreka continue showing me completely different relationships with survival.
My disappointment in Mikki remains because motherhood changes the stakes for me. I can empathize with someone's circumstances while still believing they have a responsibility to consider how their choices affect the children depending on them.
Dreka frustrates me differently. Her decisions repeatedly feel rooted in what Dreka wants or needs, with little consideration for who else might end up inside the blast radius.
One episode left.
And at this point, I need KuTura to tell me whether these women are actually getting out of the Slums...
...or whether the hardest part will be getting the Slums out of them.

Well Damn Miss Author Lady- this book started off all gas no breaks! This was a hot ass ghetto mess but it was real! Police brutality, drugs, child neglect, the fighting, the gossiping and the backstabbing! Just messy!I can visual each scene and each character!
Mikki get yourself together girl! After every high you say you’ll get better but soon as that monkey starts on your back- you cave. You don’t even try! The fact that you still have a smelly coochie and stay giving it out, the fact that you left the hospital after your attack but I’m not surprised that you stole from Tasha because you’re an addict! Didn’t expect for Ziggy to be behind your attack nor did I expect Maurice to be an addict as well! Girl you took so many butt cuttings ain’t no way you’re still pretty! I hate how your parents failed you.
Tasha- you’re a bird! Fighting continually while pregnant is bird behavior! Grow up!! You have a 2nd chance and you’re wasting it! And stop leaving them kids like that. Jah and Niecy aren’t your babysitters! You be putting them kids off on them! I love Trinity!!! She’s is the fave of the book! I like Coogie and he seems like a great man but please do be on funny ish in book 4. I feel like I’m waiting on the 2nd shoe to drop! I know you married her for spousal privilege!

You’re a glutton for punishment! And the way you carried at that funeral girl!! Dressed with a veil and gloves while you showed your whole thick butt! Poor lil Deuce! You letting Butta play with you and you got a good man. Leave Butta’s narcissistic and manipulative ass alone before you end up in jail or stanking!!

Episode three and whew… ain’t much changed, just more chaos, bad decisions, and folks getting on my last nerve.
Dreka still dumb as hell thinking she running game on White Chocolate. Baby… you not ten steps ahead like you think you are. It’s giving delusional mastermind and I’m not buying it. Something about that whole situation just screams that it’s gonna blow up in her face sooner rather than later.
Mikki… girl at this point just give it up. I don’t even know what else to say. Every episode I keep hoping she’ll wake up and choose better, but she keeps proving she’s stuck in the same cycle. It’s frustrating because you want better for her, but she clearly not there yet.
Tasha… I’m actually hopeful for her, but I don’t like the feeling I’m getting. It’s like something bad is lurking around the corner and I hate that for her. She deserves at least one win, because she’s been through enough already.

I just finished Episode 3 of Slums by Kutura B, and listen this story is a hot ghetto mess that keeps getting messier by the chapter. Betrayal is at an all-time high, trust is nonexistent, and a happy ending? Is not looking promising for anybody.

I thought part 2 was good this part 3 baybee. This part 3 was on fire. I thought Mikki learned her lesson I guess and we finally know who tried to take her out smh. I never thought it would’ve been who it was tho. All of Mikki’s ish is catching up to her and fast as hell. Dreka was trying to do better, she was for a while and I love that for her. She can’t lie about who her baby daddy is now cat’s out of the bag for sure. That damn Detective Bradley always has something up his sleeve tho. How Rico went out was crazy and that funeral with all that chaos was even crazier. Should’ve known Butta wasn’t going to change and he made that known by not only his words but also his actions. I was starting to like Riggs for Dreka however she went and messed that all the way up falling for Butta’s no good antics yet again. Tasha has it all the life she wants, the man she wants and it all might come crashing down. Pastor and Lady Jenkins ain’t ish and I wholeheartedly understand why. Coogi really is a man of his word although I can’t help but wonder why he wants to marry Tasha now. He for sure has an ulterior motive I’m hoping I’m wrong tho. That cliffhanger was wild as hell. Kudos to a great episode three Kutura 😊👏🏾

The Slums 3 had me so locked in I swear I live in the Slums too. I am fully invested in Tasha, Mikki, and Dreka like they’re people I know in real life. Kutura B doesn’t just tell a story, she drops you right in it. Every chapter feels like you’re sitting in the courtyard of the projects, watching everything unfold in real time.
This series is a straight-up ghetto As The World Turns, and I mean that in the best way possible. The drama, the secrets, the guilt, the loyalty test. It’s messy, intense, and painfully real. Karma is working overtime, and nobody feels safe, which keeps you turning the page. Just when you think someone might catch a break, here comes another twist.
Kutura B knows how to write a hood soap opera that keeps you emotionally attached and slightly stressed, and I love it. I’m already impatiently waiting for the next episode because I need to know what happens next. If you’re not reading The Slums, you’re missing out.

Whew chile… The Slums 😭😂 At this point, I feel like I’ve been through it with these people. I read all three books back-to-back, and while I was thoroughly entertained, I’m not gonna lie… I need a BREAK. 😂 The drama, the mess, the drugs, the secrets, the bad decisions, the relationships—BABY, it was a LOT.
Every time I thought things couldn’t get any worse, somebody said, “Bet.” 😭 Mikki had me fighting for my life, Dreka was giving MESS, and Tasha was honestly one of the only characters I could consistently understand. And some of the situations had me sitting there like, “There is absolutely no way y’all are still alive.” 😂
I will say, the series kept me turning the pages because I had to know how everything was going to play out. There were definitely moments where I wanted to put the book down because of the foolishness, but curiosity kept winning.
Overall, I’ve enjoyed this series, and I can definitely see why people are hooked. Was every part of it for me? No. Did I sometimes want to reach through the book and shake these people? Absolutely.
But it kept me entertained, and that counts for something.
As for book four… I honestly don’t know yet. 😭 I’ve read all three back-to-back, and I think I’ve reached my limit on Slums drama for the moment. If I do continue with the fourth book, it’ll probably be after I’ve had some time to recover. They will be just fine with out me for a lil min. Lol
Definitely somewhere between a 3.5 and 4 stars for me, but I’m rounding up because, at the end of the day, I didn’t DNF it. & I did have hopes they’d get it together.

They are so messy for no reason at all Mikki probably pisses me off the most, but I tried to give her some leeway because of what she’s going through. August 31, 2026Incase you might have thought she’d let up on book three…BITCH YOU GUESSED IT!!! But you’re wrong, there was no break, not a single one. Dreka has her priorities messed up and while she’s so worried about her baby, she’s not really showing it. Mikki is disgusting and disappointing, I really hope that rehab and some medication for that infection are next. She’s walking around looking and smelling like The Walking Dead, and has the strength of 100 men, it has to be the drugs. As for Tasha…she gotta let her sister go until she’s fully in recovery, even then she should keep her guard up, and stop visiting The Slums. Tasha and Mikki’s parents are something else, it’s no wonder they don’t make the best decisions. The mom is delusional and evil, and the father is gross, a charlatan, and an adulterer. I hope they get their comeuppance, along with a number of the men in this. I’m tuned in for book 4 of one of the wildest series I’ve read in a long years.

Tasha goes 2 steps forward and knocked back 6… my girl just wanna give her family a better life and I ain’t mad at her. She never forgets where she came from but she ain’t tryna go back.

Deka..Mikki..Tasha.. this book was so wild and crazy from Mika oh my God if I stopped feeling bad for her but then I don't feel bad for her but then I do feel bad for her because of the drugs. Episode three was no joke. Katura came out the gate swinging and showed us that the Slums didn’t love anyone. The book was well written, flowed well, definitely kept my attention and well worth reading. Mikki has hit rock bottom and I’m not sure if she’s going to make it after this. Tasha is being hit with one thing after the other, but she and Coogi is sticking by each other through thick and thin. Dreka is seeking child support from Jan, but we will just have to wait and see how things turn out. Mikki and Tasha’s parents are absolute trash. I can’t wait for Episode Four.
