Paris Révolutionnaire

Rate this book

One of G. Lenôtre's (the pen name for Théodore Gosselin) many works on the French Revolution and French history, "Paris in the Revolution" is a collection of stories and charming descriptions of important events of the French Revolution, from the assassination of Marat to the execution of Fouquier-Tinville. It is written in a nineteenth-century style, very different from today. It's not a complete blow-by-blow account of the events but a description of some of the principal episodes by a professional historian trying to separate fact from legend (and there is a lot of myth and legend surrounding the French Revolution). The reader should already have a working knowledge of the main events of the French Revolution, otherwise he will be lost.
