I do love a brother's best friend book, honestly they are my kryptonite. I have loved pretty much all of them I have read.

I did really enjoy this one, but at times it felt cheesy. I also would have liked a little more steam in the story, as crazy as it sounds it was just too sweet. The males in the story didn't act like typical guys, their actions were more what your girlfriends would do to help you meet or hook up with guys. I just don't feel male POV was executed very well.

If you are a fan of brother's best friend books I do recommend reading this one.

Will keep this short. I was bored for a great deal of this book despite "older brother's best friend" being one of my favorite tropes. There was a certain level of maturity to the characters that I felt was woefully missing. Nate and Ava move at a glacial pace and baring a small portion I enjoyed after they got together, I'd say it wasn't for me.

audio reread February 2017

I forgot how much I adored Nate and Ava Mae. Great narrators (two of my all time faves) I've said it before and I'll say it again, good narrators make or break an audio!

After listening to this, I want more. the epilogue was cute but didn't leave us any good look into their future - definitely not up to this epilogue whore's standard!

**3.5 Sweet and easy read Stars."

Very low angst other than the brother situation. Nate was absolutely amazing. However it was another one where some simple conversations could have saved them time apart but I guess there wouldn't be a story then lol.

Just Say When was one of those crushing on your brother’s best friend and hiding a sweet spot for your best friend’s baby sis types of reads.

11182054 1044784295549320 3395538586480735423 n

A book standalone, it entailed the tale of Ava Mae and Nate.

What started as what was thought to be an unrequited love on both sides, turns into something more as a chance of fate brings them together and the two find themselves delving into what was thought to be futile and forbidden.

11150845 1045703832124033 3993239391291408378 n

Author Kaylee Ryan definitely bridges a leap of faith between two childhood friends and how they seal that gap into lovers. While there is that doubt about how Ava’s brother and Nate’s bestie will react to their budding relationship, a lot of the plot was about taking the plunge and embracing on some risks of the heart.

11193215 1045201955507554 1195998991492031872 n

A very sweet ride, a bit cheesy at times, but over all cute.

Just Say When is such a disappointment. The plot, the characters, the banter, the conversation are all stiff and choppy. I do not know if Miss Ryan intended her book to be this way. The main theme is older brother's BFF. Some sort forbidden romance.

Honestly, I was so bored with the cheesy conversation and how the romance unfolds. There is no seduction or tender moment that swoon me.

This is about a 2.5 for me. It was just ok.
For two people that grew up together and loved each other secretly I wasn't really buying it. Maybe snippets of their past might have helped. It was all a bit male/fighter/cheesy. I honestly skimmed most of the book because it wasn't very engaging for me. Everything was very blah and fell into its perfect place.

I just have to say that Kaylee Ryan has me adoring her newest release Just Say When. This book was definitely one sweet tale of friends to lovers, first love, and meant to be love story that captures pure innocent love. A love between two friends who finally realized that it was time to take the biggest gamble. To finally admit that there is a special bond between them. A love that existed for years and it was a matter of time for them to finally to just say when.

#JustSayWhen

Ava Evans has always been in love with her brother's best friend, Nate Garrison. For years, she always thought he only saw her as just the best friend's little sister. But when a circumstance of fate reunites these two, lines of love begins to get crossed when they finally realized that their attraction and feelings for each other is so much more. So will this new found love ruin their life-long friendship or will this relationship show that they were meant to be?

Nate was an absolute sweetheart. He was patient and the kind of boyfriend and lover that any woman would swoon for. I adored Nate and Ava's relationship because they didn't just rush into a sexual relationship but took time to explore their feelings. This relationship was built on a foundation of trust, friendship, and love.

If you are a fan of sweet romance and HEA, then Just Say When is the book for you. Ms. Ryan was able to combine an endearing tale of sweet romance. A love that blossomed through years of friendship. So if you are fan of a love story that gives you the warm fuzzy feeling then this book is the for you. This was the first book that I have read from this author and it definitely won't be my last. Ava Mae Evans and Nate Garrison have been crushing on each other for years. When their paths cross again, they find the same pull they had since their teen years.

This is a pretty sweet, angst-free story of two old “friends” that get the chance to reconnect and have a real relationship, their only perceived obstacle being her older brother, his best friend.

I have to be honest; their “perceived obstacle” grated the feminist side of me. Ava is a college student, turning 20—an adult. Why she needs her big brother’s approval on whom to date simply felt archaic. I get that most brothers don’t want to see their little sister taken advantage of, but this was simply not the case here nor were we given any indication that Nate had been a man-whore in the past to which he wouldn’t be trustworthy with her heart. On top of that, her brother isn’t even around, and when he does show up…well to avoid spoilers I’ll just say he’s not someone, based off his attitude, whose opinion I’d value.

If you enjoy a bit of an old-fashioned love story, then you won’t have any issues with this one. However, if you prefer a strong female lead who doesn’t let her life be run by putting other people’s overbearing ideas ahead of her own feelings, then Ava Mae will certainly disappoint you. As for Nate, his personality was a little too “she’s mine” right off the bat—I think I craved either a little more background or build-up— but as the story reached its climax, he seemed to be the one with the most common sense. Overall, an okay read.

Ava and Nate have both had a thing for each other for years but neither of them had the guts to tell each other and let it be known. Nate is Ava's brothers best friend. There is a guy code, you don't mess with your best friend's sister, right? Well when Nate and Ava are around each other after a couple of years not seeing each other, Nate just can't hold back anymore. He loves Ava and decides that with or without Brody's blessing, he will make Ava his.

One thing I loved about this story is that KR didn't make Nate a manwhore that Ava had to watch with different women all the time while pining for him in the background. As a matter of fact, it is not mentioned that she ever saw him with an OW. I'm not saying in all the years he never was with anyone else but by the time they get together he hasn't really dated or anything else for 2 years.

This is low on angst and big on love. I loved every second of this book. Was it a little cheesy at times? Yes, but I don't care. I love cheese lol. The only thing I didn't like about this book was Brody. I get it that he was surprised by their relationship but get over yourself. If you don't trust your best friend with your sister then he shouldn't be your best friend. Nate was a good man and treated Ava like a queen. What more could you want for your sister and best friend? He does come around at the end but he annoyed me a little. Especially considering his secret when he returns. Hypocritical much?

Anyways, another amazing read by Kaylee Ryan. Off to start another.

This was a solid brothers-best-friend book. I did enjoy it and liked these characters but the switch from them not seeing each other in awhile to then falling right into their love kind of disappointed me. There was some angst - a very low level of it - for brief few chapters but then that was it. Even when Ava's brother found out there wasn't any drama or intrigue that it added to the book which is what I love these books for. So overall, a good story and I do recommend it for fellow lovers of this trope, but I can't say it was a favorite of mine.

Review by Lisa Kane

Sweet, easy read about Ava and her brother Brody's best friend, Nate. While hanging out at a local gym with a couple of new friends, Ava runs into Nate. She's had a major crush on him for years, but has managed to hold herself back from making a fool of herself. Nate has been her brother's best friend for years and has always treated her like a little sister. Only Ava's all grown up now...

The story is told from both POV's so we get to read all about Nate's take on things. He has wanted Ava since she was a teenager, but he won't do anything to cross the line with her brother. So he has avoided her company for the last 2 years. But when it seems like one of his fighter's that he is training, Zach, is interested, he starts to show his feelings for her.

One thing I never get about these sister of the best friend romances-why do they care what the brother thinks? These are consenting adults, in this case, the brother lived thousands of miles away in Hawaii and had some pretty big secrets of his own. I just never understand-as long as you are legally of age, and it's consenting-then there's nothing to see here folks. Get together and move on...

Just a little side note-this is a sweet read, I just wished there had been a little more angst to keep things interesting.

Ava Mae has had a crush on her brother's best friend, Nate, since they were young. What she doesn't know is that Nate has had feelings for her as well but hasn't acted on them because of her protective older brother, Brody. When these two are forced to spend time together, it becomes harder and harder to fight their attraction to each other. I really enjoyed this brother's best friend romance. It was sugary sweet and low-angst but that was just what I was looking for. The thing I like most about this author is she always writes the most swoon-worthy heroes and Nate is no exception. I loved Nate from the very beginning and I'm so glad this was told in dual POV. I really enjoyed this story and can't wait to read what this author writes next!

It was just too sweet and corny for my taste. He said and thought things that were completely unrealistic and corny. That made it boring. The only source of conflict was not really one - her brother. Nothing really happened.

I liked this book! A sweet and smooth reading. Kaylee Ryan did it again!

Ava had a crush on Nate, her brother's best friend, for so long that she didn't know how to cope with her feelings, so she chose to avoid Nate after he leave marines to run his father's gym. Nate also did the same thing cause he didn't want to ruin his friendship with his best friend. However, when they had friends in common, they could no longer resist the attractions between each other.

If you loved to read Kaylee Ryan's Anywhere with You, or you are in the mood to read a sweet romance without love-triangle, you definitely need to read this!

This was a basic, saccharine sweet “brother-best friend-sister” romance. It was easy and breezy and just what I was looking for after reading a sad book.

Ava Mae is very innocent and in love with her brother’s best friend, Nate. Nate had also always been in love with Ava. He speaks romantically and seems swoon worthy.

This is lighthearted and carefree. The drama was at a minimal and obvious (the brother). There’s not much to this book but worth the quick read for Nate’s sweet words. It might be a little over the top for some with the naivety of Ava - she’s a virgin. But the book doesn’t harp on that. She doesn’t seem prudish... more like no one would ever compare to Nate.

I would have liked to have heard more about how they grew up together and more how Nate always loved her. But the gist is there.

"I used to admire you from afar," I tell her. "You would tag along with whatever it was Brody and I were getting into and I used to watch you, closely. The day before we left for the Marines, I hugged you and pretended you were mine that day. I pretended you were going to be waiting for me when we got home. When I got your letters, I continued to pretend - you kept me going. When Dad had his stroke and I came home for good, I fought the pull to seek you out. I battled with myself to stay away from you. You were his little sister and off limits to me. Each night I would wish you were lying beside me, and each morning wish youwere the first thing I saw, Years, Ava Mae. For years I've longed to be with you."

If this quote from Nathan Garrison didn't melt you into a pile of goo, I don't know what will. Pretty much every sentence uttered by Nate in Kaylee Ryan's Just Say When had me melting for him. Physically he is godlike. Ava Mae's best friend Kara refers to him as a "sexy beast". But Nate didn't even have to be hot to be perfect. The way he treats Ava at every step in this story is on point. He found this girl that he wanted and just because she was his best friend's younger sister, he tried to stay away.

Now don't think Nate was the only one who had these feelings. Oh no, Ava Mae has had a crush on her big brother Brody's best friend since she was a child. He makes her heart pound and her stomach flip. But, she knows her brother would not approve. Ava Mae hasn't ever really dated seriously and the last guy she went out with was way too hands on for her liking. Clearly in her mind Nate is her ideal guy and no one will ever match up to him.

After serving in the Marines with Ava's brother, Nate came home to run his dad's business after his father had a stroke. So how is it possible that these two haven't run into each other in about two years? Nate runs Hardcorps Gym and Ava goes to college in the same town, you think they'd run into each other, right? Nate, is so worried losing Brody's (who's on a tour in the Marines) friendship, he makes sure he doesn't run into Ava. And of course Ava never running into Nate figures he just forgot about her.

But of course that isn't so and when the two run find their way back to each other through mutual friends, you know staying apart is not going to be an easy task. Especially when one of the guys Nate trains at his gym shows signs of being interested in Ava.

I have to say, Nate was so in love with Ava that I was a little bit jealous. When the group goes out to a club and Ava's "date" doesn't pay enough attention to her, Nate under the premise of keeping Ava safe because of her big brother goes a little alpha on Zach and it's very sexy and adorable at the same time. When Nate rescues Ava from a groping dance partner at the club, he makes sure the groper knows Ava is his. Which she really isn't, but Nate decides after having Ava in his arms, he wants to pretend for a little while.

Pretty much everyone except Nate and Ava can tell the way they feel about each other. The sexual tension between the two of them is off the chain. So with Kara telling Ava and Zach telling Nate to go for it, even though they're afraid of how Brody will react, they decide to give a relationship a chance. They don't want to give up something that might be really great. At a backyard barbecue when Nate finally kisses Ava, I got chill bumps.

Their relationship progresses quickly. Since they've known each other for ages and they both have such strong feelings for each other. Hell, both sets of parents could tell the way they felt about each other. Now if they could get Brody on board they'd be set.

In addition to all his other perfection, Nate is VERY attentive to Ava's needs. He's also very alpha about the fact that he will be her first. The thing is, Ava's ready to go there and Nate feels like he needs to let Brody know about them first before they take that step. I will say one thing. Exercise ball at Hardcorps gym. Good Lord that boy knows what to do to make a girl scream out his name.

Just when you think Ava and Nate will get their happily ever after, big brother comes home. Brody not only has a surprise of his own, but absolutely WILL NOT give his blessing to Nate and Ava. Then there's Clint, the creep Ava went on one date with who doesn't understand the word no.

If you're looking for a perfect boyfriend book, you need to one click Just Say When. Not only is Nate perfect, but I promise, you'll really like the story. So go and do that now while I give Just Say When a super four lip smack review.

Nate's family I loved actually I loved both families and they all knew about his crush on Ava even when Nate didn't, "Nathan, boy, you’ve had a thing for that girl for years. You’ve always just been too damn stubborn to do anything about it." Nate may not be a dirty talker but the boy makes up for it by having Ava be his entire world, "you could pack everything you own for all I care; that means you’ll be there longer.” I lean in and kiss the tip of her nose. “That would make me a very happy man." Ava and Nate were just so at ease with each other, "call her back and tell her we need . . .” I look at my watch. “At least an hour.” She chuckles and smacks my chest." I enjoyed this book I always enjoy Kaylee's books.

No me convenció.

I am a sucker for friends to lovers. I also love the way Nate treats Ava. But, the storyline was weak (very little actually happens) and the writing was a bit robotic. I kept waiting for something to happen and it's just more about day-to-day life. Even when something "happens" it's pretty mild. The personalities kind of meld into each other because they come across as the same mainly agreeable person.

I swear, if my brother's best friend had been Nate Garrison I'd have been saying "when", too. Because damn, he's my newest book boyfriend and he is divine.

Ava Evans has long been crushing on the best friend of her older brother, Brody. And when she comes face-to-face with Nate Garrison for the first time in two years, she knows that nothing has changed. She still wants him.

Nate knows he's not supposed to touch her. She's off limits but the thought of anyone being with his girl but him just doesn't work. Admitting what he wants her is a risk, but one he has to take.

All that's left is to decide if they're willing to chance the love of her brother, his best friend, to finally be together...

This book is so good. So, so good, I'm not sure I can explain. I just straight-up, no questions, loved reading it. And for all the little reasons too. The friendships, all of them. The banter between said friends. The cute-as-hell way Nate always called her Ava Mae. The kissing (and other stuff) that felt so right, was so tender but still so freaking hot, I was burning up. The moments that didn't quite play out like I expected, surprising and thrilling me. Not to mention, all the other adorable moments between Nate and his girl.

Sigh. Oh, Nate. Could you be any cuter, any sexier, any more mine? This guy is ideal book boyfriend material. Thoughtful, playful, protective, charming and swoony. Tough, strong and sexy. I loved him with Ava. I loved his morals and his commitment both his girl and his friend. I wish men like him existed outside of books.

But it's not just Nate that makes Just Say When so right. Ava was awesome too, which isn't always the case. I really enjoyed her character; her reactions and decisions worked perfectly and helped propel this story without prolonging anything or making me want to pop her for being obtuse. She was in the moment and I was right there with her.

This is my first Kaylee Ryan book but it won't be my last. As soon as she has another out, I'll be one-clicking. Just Say When. ~ Beth, 5 stars

You have done it again, Ms. Ryan, captured my heart *sigh* with a story of forbidden love!

Ava Mae has crushed on Nate, her brother Brody's best friend, for as long as she can remember, always hanging out with them and always hiding her crush from the world, and especially from Nate.

Nate knows Ava Mae is off limits yet when he finds out one of the guys from his gym is trying to date her, he sees red and knows he has to stake his claim on her.

Nate makes the first move, letting Ava Mae know that he's interested in her which surprises her because he's never even hinted being interested. Even though they are both hesitant at first, I really appreciated Zach and Kara, their friends, who help them see that they are worth fighting for.

Nate and Ava Mae had some sizzling chemistry that really built up and had me saying, “come on y'all, stop teasing me here!” But as they say, "good things come to those who wait." Well, my goodness, it was worth the wait because it was Hot and Amazing when the fireworks went off!

I loved Nate and Ava Mae's story, and how they didn't allow others to come between them and what they wanted…each other. Ms. Ryan, can we please get more on them...please? ~ Kara, 5 Sweet & Amazing stars

Just Say When was a cute romance that makes you wonder what you would do if you had feelings about your big brother’s best friend and how you would feel when you find out he feels the same way. I am an only child so I didn’t have that type of crush growing up but I can totally see why it would be hard especially if you have a very over protective big brother who you know will not be happy about the relationship.

Nate won me over from almost the very start. Even with just a few paragraphs I had a feeling that he was going to take his feelings for Ava seriously, and he proved me right. Ava was okay for me. I think in a way she was too immature at times with certain things, but I think she was perfect for Nate. Ava and Nate took things slowly. I understood Nate’s reasoning up to a certain point, but since when does a relationship have to have a seal of approval from big brother especially when you know he is not going to react well. Sometimes you need to do what is good for your relationship and not worry about everyone else’s feelings, thoughts or opinions.

I had a couple of issues overall with Just Say When and that is what kept me from loving it, just liking it. One being the whole situation mentioned above and another is that it almost felt rushed and anticlimactic at the end. It was just missing something that would have made it a great read for me. I kind of hope that the author will write another book about some of the other characters and maybe tie up some loose ends that she left. Pretty good read though, it just wasn’t great for me.

I love sweet but this was so slow. Nothing happened. It would have been better if it was just written in one POV instead dual POVs than maybe I would not know every single thought each of the main characters had. I was hoping that at least there would be a love triangle with Zach in the picture but...

It was just...boring. The whole issue that the heroine's brother did not want her to date was kind of dumb. The hero should have just been a man and told his best friend his feelings for Ava.

The writing was also an issue for me. I felt like I was told everything like a document.

This may work for you, but it did not work for me.
