George Medcalf from Kent, suddenly finds himself not only as heir to Brampton Hall in Derbyshire but to a very large life changing fortune. For his eldest daughter, MARIA MEDCALF this immediately elevates her status to that of one of the most eligible young women in England. Whilst in London Maria finds herself being pursued by Edward Cavendish. Maria, although normally averted to marriage, feels she can now ‘afford’ to fall in love and throws caution to the wind, with disastrous consequences...
Upon their migration north, Maria meets the very handsome, eloquent and extremely wealthy, JAMES GARDNER. Just as Maria believes her life is taking a turn for the better the past catches up with her and with a vengeance.
From the first moment she picked up a pen, she wanted her words to matter and therefore she writes from the heart. Everything that she expresses through the written word, is an illustration of her ability to bring a scene, picture or situation to life. This has a profound effect upon the reader. Her hallmark descriptive writing has been described by others as visionary, penetrating, revealing, enticing, evocative, picturesque and elegant. Her words are like a road map for the reader...helping them to touch the divine and pointing them towards God and His Kingdom.
Just downloaded this book on e-book format, and was so excited thought I would encourage all paperback lovers - don't miss this one!! This book has all the hallmarks of a great read! Just read the first few chapters and I am hooked! Beautifully and exquisitely written.
I am an avid reader of many forms of literature. 'Benign Surrender' is in my opinion one of the best and most enjoyable books I have read for years. I love AK's 'Jane Austen style' of writing and all the characters are well developed. Once I started, I could not put it down!! Definitely one for the library!
Great book. First in a long time that, once I finally settled down with it, I couldn't put down! Great storyline, can't wait for the sequel. Having a game of 'guess who' with myself so it will be interesting to see if my 'detective hunches' are correct, lol! More of the same please AK
A great book and a lovely story! Beautifully written and in such detail you could see yourself in the locations, transported in time - excellent! Loved this version.
Such a disappointment this book has so much potential plotwise but it is not particularly well written and there are far too many mistakes and not only in usage of words but also titles.
I read the first edition in 2015. I prefer this one. Easier to read. Heroine is stronger due to her faith, I LOVE the Hero. Contains true romance, clean and what a lot of books lack in this day and age...the author does not compromise in her amazing descriptions...you feel you are actually there walking through the scenes...
