Coming off the first leg of a major tour, Ryan Rasoner plans to finish Gone by Autumn's new song, take a shot of whiskey, and then invite a woman over for a no-strings-attached one night stand. In that order.
After he bumps into a beautiful woman at a local club the band is playing at, Ryan assumes everything he wants is about to come true.
Raine Meadow’s reporting career is at a standstill until news breaks that there's a hot story in town involving an even hotter lead singer and his strung out, murderer of a father getting out of prison. It's the story of a lifetime, so when she unexpectedly meets Ryan, Raine knows it's her chance to make a name for herself.
Romance and heartache meet head on in this sexy, gritty rockstar novel.
I've read all of the first of the Brothers of Rock series with Chasing Cross and several of the 2nd band Fallen Tuesday, so I'm pretty familiar with Karolyn James' writing. It just keeps getting better. She doesn't gloss over the rock star lifestyle and band operations. Karolyn seems to have perfect insight into it all and brings it to life in her writing. Couple that with the hot rockers and their love interests, naughty exploits and fun hearted shenanagins of being on the road and it just ROCKS!
This rocker band is lead by vocalist Ryan Rasoner. Ryan writes and sings. He's looking forward to the break, writing some songs and having a few 1-nighters when back in the comfort of their home town. He didn't expect to meet a gorgeous gal just before playing an impromtu gig at The Jack.
Raine Meadows, is a struggling writer logging miles chasing bands for their stories. She dreamed of something more meaningful, something that would make her rich an famous so she could buy a place to live and write in solitude. Her chance encounter at The Jack with Ryan Rasoner could do that for her if she would just do her job.
Now I'm Lonely, that was the song they played at The Jack, after only today having started and finished it. Ryan poured himslef into the song.
"The words were sucking her in and her mind struggled to fight it. Ryan was just doing his job, singing songs to people who wanted to hear them. Raine reminded herself that she should be doing her job. There had to be a story here, and she was going to find it."
There's lot of action, a lot of rocker feels and an window into this illusive world of sex, drugs and rock and roll. Okay, so no drugs, but definitely sex and rock n roll! So 1-click this one and you'll see what I mean.
“Every moment with you is a forever moment,” This is Raine & Ryan’s story of finding each other. Raine bumps into Ryan, connecting with him, in a way she has never before. Had no idea he was a famous rockstar, and he has no idea she is a reporter. Thinks heat up very quickly
Guess I should have read the whole rock star series in order, but I didnt. Oh well. Doesn't matter, as long as you read them. So now im catching up on what comes inbetween Chasing Cross, Fallen Tuesday and The boys of Downcrash. Haven't read those, ya should.
First I want to say thank you to Karolyn, that I had the opportunity to be an ARC-reader (my first time – so lucky). And so grateful!
OMG, I love it!! It's a story you can lose yourself in. The perfect rock star romance!
I have to admit I started the “Brother of Rock”-series in the second year and Luke´s book was my first one of Karolyn James and then I read the rest with no order and fall totally in love with all these guys. And I got my sister addicted, too.
So now it´s time for the third round of Karolyn James´ Brothers of Rock. We will get five new hot musicians with their own unique story how they find the love of their live. Off the Record is the first book of Gone by Autumn and it´s about Ryan, the lead singer.
Here the little introduction:
Gone by Autumn comes home after a major tour through the country. Now Ryan Rasoner only wants to finish the new song and spend the first night off with a woman in his apartment. Then he meets a beautiful woman at a local club and Ryan´s plan might get messed up. Enter Raine Meadow. She is a writer and shall bring the newest news and gossip in time. The new hot story around shall be about Ryan´s father, free after year in jail for murder, who will use his famous son to get back in the industry. This might be Raines biggest chance to make a name for herself. But is that what she really wants…
“Now what?” Raine asked. “I want to finish the night,” Ryan said. “With you.”
So in conclusion: Ryan is a lonely rockstar with a bad past and an asshole father, who loves his band, the fans and, above all, MUSIC. He never expected to meet someone like Raine. She is a writer and reporter under pressure and as lonely as Ryan. That’s when all things started.
So I have to say: this is my favourite rockstar-book for now…although I love all the others equally but holy hell this one gets totally hot! I mean of course Ryan knew how to flirt and seduce a woman but the one scene in the chair . Nevertheless all their moments were heartwarming and full of feels and never forget totally hot!
“I’m going to take you right now. And now will become forever.”
It was so romantic und pure with a bit drama all over the place during the complete book. I love Karolyn's writing style- with her focus on creating genuine characters that are relatable. It feels like you are experiencing everything right along with the heroine/hero – like being right next to them. Not to mention I always love that’s not only just a romance book but the relationships between the band members and the music itself have also a place in this story. All members have a place in this book, even character of the first two bands will not forget. So it´s not only just a romance novel but also five guys living their dream with music. And I have to mention there´s something that drives me nuts, in a good way. You never really got the age of the characters und a specific description of them. So there is a lot of freedom for own interpretation and finding some hints in the text to solve this. I love that, so you never got the age thing solved. ;)
So my last question: Where the hell do I get a guy like Ryan…seriously?
I can´t say it enough: Off the Record is just as fabulous as its predecessors – but even hotter. This story is a great all-rounder for those that love a rock star romance with a slice of sweet and sexy served on the side. Go grab it readers ...
And if you don´t read it, it´s your loss! Now the countdown starts for Tanner…can´t wait ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I was lucky enough to receive this book as an ARC for an honest opinion. You can probably tell already what I thought of it since I said I was Lucky. And boy was I.
This is the story of lead singer Ryan who has a promising rise to stardom after coming off from real heart break of a past all because of his “rock god” daddy. Not only does Ryan have a hot band to contend with he also now has a hot reporter by the name of Raine. And yes, you have to love that name! Raine was a reporter on various rock bands and worked from story to story and was always looking for that one story that would put an end to this gig and get her what she really wanted and that was to write a book about things that really interested her.
She had no idea that night in the bar when she first met Ryan who she was actually talking to until he jumped up on stage to perform. Sparks flew from there. At times those were some pretty hot sparks! It really wasn’t a close call for Raine when she had to choose between a budding romance with this hot rockstar or an article on Ryan and his looser of a rockstar dad. It only got complicated when she wasn’t truly honest with Ryan and the reason she was running around with a tape recorder in her bag. I do have to say how the kiss Ryan gave to Raine after finding out that she was supposed to do a story on him was so profound. Just that one little kiss to the forehead was a killer.
You get to see how their love comes full circle and you also get to see the heartbreaking way that Ryan lost his mom. Off The Record is book one in the Gone By Autumn Series and let’s just say that the rest of the series won’t come soon enough especially when Ms. James leaves you with a great teaser at the end of this book.
If you are someone who has not yet read one of Karolyn James’ books and your are a rock romance lover you are really missing out on a super author who knows how to make a story come alive. When I say alive I mean that you actually feel what her characters are feeling whether it is so sad that you can feel your own heart hurting or so hilarious that you find yourself laughing out loud with what some of the characters are saying. This is a book that is worth every minute of your time.
I really liked the character of Ryan. He was conflicted and had a secret that he was hesitant to share with anyone, until Raine came along.
The first part of the story eluded to a mystery surrounding Ryan's father, and I was eagerly turning the pages to see exactly what the ambiguous "mystery" was. When I first read what it was, I was shocked! It is definitely something I haven't read in a romance novel before!
The inevitable conflict that would occur between Raine and Ryan, inasmuch as her job conflicting with his trust, was one I was eager to read and see how it got resolved.
The resulting conflicts in the story were low-stress, which made for a nice read. The hot love scenes made for a nice read too!

The Brothers of Rock go on! Karolyn James has done it again with a new band, Gone by Autumn. The first book, Off the Record, is about Ryan, the lead singer. The band has just come home from their US tour with Fallen Tuesday (sound familiar?) And the play an impromptu gig at a friend's bar where Ryan meets Raine. And the fun begins..... Raine is a reporter reluctant to dish anything she finds out about Ryan and his troubled past. Ryan's alcoholic father is let out of prison where he had been incarcerated for vehicular homicide in the death of Ryan's mother. Now dad wants to cash in on his son's success and fame. What a juicy news story! Will Raine write it? What will Ryan do when if he finds out she's a reporter? Great story. Great beginning of another Brothers of Rock series!

Gone for Autumn return from a hugely successful tour and try to get back to normal life. Lead singer Ryan is finding life off the road lonely and he's also fighting person problems. Enter Raine a rock journo who he meets at a concert who doesn't recognise him and they embark on a torrid one night stand. Can they survive the press and his disfunctional family. If you like your rockers hot and sensitive I strongly recommend you give this book as try. Ryan had it all and almost came close to a certain Mr Kellan Kyle in the romance stakes. The ending of the book sets us up nicely for the second book in the series. I'm off to one click more rock books by Karolyn James.
I have read several of Karolyn James' books and have never been disappointed. She has a wonderful flowing writing style that holds your interest and keeps you reading and reading. This story was no different it follows Ryan the lead singer for the band "Gone By Autumn" and his struggle to break away from his father's early singing days. His father is a washed up drunk who was responsible for his mothers death. The band consists of 5 guys all dealing with life who came together and formed a band to escape reality with hopes of hitting it big some day. Raine is a rising reporter who is suppose to be writing a story about the band but once she meets Ryan she is conflicted between feelings for Ryan and her responsibilities to her job. Book is well worth reading.
Off the Record is Off the Charts!! I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is a story about a rock band and this book is all about Ryan, the lead singer. When the band finishes their tour as an opening band for Fallen Tuesday they get to have some down time at home. Ryan realizes he is lonely..
Raine is looking for that great story that all reporters would kill for. the Hot New Band Gone by Autumn is in town and she needs to get an interview. When she runs into Ryan at a local club things take a turn that she isn't expecting...
You are going to want to read this one. I can't wait for the next book in the series, Bring on Tanner!!
Since their tour with Fallen Tuesday has now ended, Gone By Autumn must now continue to write and release new music to promote themselves. Ryan realizes fame isn't everything and he needs someone in his life. This really hits home when he meets Raine and acts on their mutual attraction. But they both have secrets......Ryan's is the real story behind his childhood and his mother's death and Raine's is the fact that she is actually a reporter.....just what Ryan doesn't need or want.
This was a short read and while I wish it had more "meat" to it, it is going to be a good series. I just hope we get more info/closure to their story.
This was an okay Rockstar Romance but it did not exactly hit all the right points for me. Ryan is sexy no question about it and his story is sad, it just didn't go to my heart and it wasn't a memorable story for me. I felt like Ryan and Raine's names kept being mentioned when he or she, his and her could easily have been enough for the reader to know who was being mentioned, and this fact bugged me really early on. But with this said I found the plot really sweet.
Review of ARC from "M&D's have you read book blog"
This was a book that held a different point of view. I liked it and am glad that I was able to read this. Karolyn James did a good job at portraying her characters in a way that made the reader feel for them.
Ryan is a rock star with a goal. He wants to make his band go international and leave the problems his father has created behind. He wants nothing to do with his father and doesn't want anyone getting the story of what happened.
Raine is a writer who is looking for the next big story and her next big story is Ryan. But, fate has a different story for her.
This was my first book by this author and this is the first book in the series. The book needs some editing for extra words and storyline sequencing problems. Ryan and Raine meet at a club where Ryan is performing as the lead singer for Gone by Autumn. In less than 3 meetings they are in love, very unbelievable based on the writing with the only thing happening between them being sex. The story has a ton of potential if the writing had a little more depth to it, explored the characters a little more.
another awesome book added to the Brothers of Rock series. love the chemistry between Ryan and Raine. The first book in a new rock series always sets the bar for the rest of the bands stories and the bar has been set high for the rest of the band. loved the drama, the hot sexy rocker's and look forward to the rest of the stories. this was a great read and a must read for your reading list. I loved it.
I really enjoyed reading about Ryan and raine's story. I am so glad that their chemistry was Hot and that Raine made the right choice. I'm not too sure on her friendAnna but maybe we wil learn more. I am definitely going to be reading the next book, and the book ends with a mind f*ck and im like hell no..., Tanner better make the right choice,
I liked Chasing Cross and Fallen Tuesday better. Not enough info about Gone by Autumn in the Fallen Tuesday series like there was in the Chasing Cross series about Fallen Tuesday. Hopefully the rest of the series will be better.
Hot rock star meets simple girl. Ryan is a good guy and Raine is a good girl. They meet , have sparks , work through the family drama and live happily ever after. Sweet story 4 stars.
I really loved this book. It was perfect! Can't wait to start the next book. I tend to skim books when there is too much detail or I get bored. Did not happen! Read every word!
This was a first for me with this author and I will definitely be reading more. The characters are well developed and well written. The sex scenes are well written also. If you like steamy books you will love this one.
Love this story. Love the rocker vibe and how Ryan completely fell for Raine and how she held her morals higher than her job. Don't want to give too much away. The love that they have for each other is deep and true. Couldn't put it down!!
