The Adventures of Little Tony, Little Nick and Little Brian: Breaker Boys

Rate this book
Three curious and mischievous brothers from the coal region of Pennsylvania discover an old coal breaker and learn the origin and purpose of coal breakers and breaker boys. Reading level: Ages 6-10.

This first installment in the “Little Tony” series focuses on teaching children about anthracite coal, coal breakers and breaker boys. The story mainly takes place in the small Pennsylvania borough of Palo Alto, renamed South Bank.

When the author read this book to his son's first grade class, the story captivated the students' attention. During a 15-minute "question and answer" session that followed, the most asked question (it was asked three separate times) was: "Did that really happen?" The author told them that 90% of the story was true. The students were left guessing which parts might not have happened.

A fun, engaging, and entertaining story for kids and parents to read together.
