Mate Hunted #5

The Logical Girl's Guide to Mating with a Werewolf

Rate this book
I made a plan to get mated to a werewolf for my own safety—and nearly got myself killed.

Apparently, shifting isn't easy for everyone. Me, being everyone.

After I narrowly survive becoming a wolf, I have to marry this man I barely know.

But he's funny.

And thoughtful.

And yes, I'm starting to like him more with every minute we spend together.

I know there's no way out now, but honestly?

I'm starting to think that this connection between us really was decided by fate

This story was… fine.
Enjoyable enough, but nothing that lingered.

It’s a short paranormal romance novella, and it does exactly what it promises: fast, spicy, and straight to the point.
Maybe too straight to the point.

The premise is fun, a logical decision to mate with a werewolf for safety, a dangerous shift, and an unexpected forced marriage.
The male lead is funny and thoughtful, and the dynamic between them has charm.
There are moments that work.

But everything happens very fast.

I know this is a novella.
I know the format is meant to be concise.
Still, this one felt rushed to the point of being a little strange.
There’s barely any character development, no real emotional buildup, no space for the relationship to breathe.
One moment they barely know each other, the next we’re told it’s fate, and I didn’t quite feel that journey.

It’s an easy, quick read and works if you’re in the mood for something light and uncomplicated. Just don’t expect depth, growth, or emotional payoff.

Pleasant, forgettable, and very much "blink and it’s over."

Creo que todas la serie ronda las 3⭐️
Son cortos, entretenidas y la autora maneja muy bien el humor.
la única contra que le veo es que las historias no se terminan de desarrollar del todo.
Connor y Zoe me gustaron.

I have a really hard time rating these books. 2 stars feels mean but I usually enjoy my 3 star books more than I enjoy these. If they weren't on Kindle Unlimited I wouldn't read them but since they are I won't stop. So make of that what you will.

If I am being honest The only reason I keep going with this particular series is to get Ethan's story. I have wanted Ethan's story since I read the 2 books in the Mate Hunt: Feral Pack series. I really am not sure why the author abandoned that spinoff series and then chose to move into this one instead but it doesn't really matter all that much. All these books pretty much have the same plot. That is not necessarily a bad thing sometimes formulaic series like this are very enjoyable to read. Although I do think the original series was better developed than the 2 spinoffs. These novellas in particular feel very surface level and low effort.

I would definitely recommend the Mated to the King series by this author. I liked that one a lot.

Zoe is a lady on a mission. Quite bluntly, she WANTS to end up mated to a werewolf and she has a plan to make this happen. The plan involves meeting all the unmated wolvers in the Feral Pack and crossing her fingers one of them is her mate. And then? Running from them to trigger their instinctive need to chase and bite.

As plans go, it's not terrible. I mean, there was a little left up to chance with the whole "hoping one of them was her mate" thing, but the rest? Worked wonderfully. The only thing Zoe really didn't take into account was that she almost died during her first shift. Which she didn't know was a possibility, really. Fortunately, she had Connor there to coach her through the change. Now she just have to convince her wolf to bite him and finish planning their wedding.

On Connor's end, he's not in the least upset that his wolf chose Zoe. He's willing to do whatever needs to be done to convince her wolf to choose him now. Which means making a list of all the things that Zoe wants and then giving all those things to her. And if he has to marry her to keep her safe? So be it!

I'm really enjoying these human women and the wolves who are getting a second chance at being mated. Next up: wary Maya and the last wolf standing. *thumbs up*

I like the change in trope in this novella, where the girl wants to be mated. She sets out to find a werewolf mate and is completely onboard with everything that is happening. It's a nice change from the others and stops it from being super repetitive. My only criticism is that, with it being a novella, there's a lot of backstory that is stated but never really explored. Zoe says that her parents are evil, manipulative people and she spends a bit of time telling Connor all the horrible things that they've done. But that's pretty much how it's stated in the book. She tells him, we the reader don't get that information. It's never actually explained why they are forcing her to get married to an old man or why they would get her kicked out of her house and force her to lose her job. That's such a huge plot point to just leave unexplored.

This is the first time that the FMC wanted to be mated, and makes a refreshing change. To be honest, I’m surprised it didn’t crop up earlier, because honestly, who doesn’t want a hot wolf who is devoted to you! Zoe is funny, straight forward, likeable and determined. Conner is hiding and all he wants is quiet and no drama. He is there for his pack, but is not actively looking for change.
The one thing I can rely on in Lola’s books is great banter, and she delivers in this book. It is funny but serious and so very compelling.
This is another enjoyable read!

I enjoyed Zoe and Connor's story. I liked how Zoe figured she had a good chance of being mated since basically her whole friend group were with the rejected pack. And of course, she was right. I felt so bad for Ethan but Connor was the perfect match for her. I'm looking forward to Ethan's love story next.

This was probably my least favorite out of the series. Most of the others I wanted the books to be longer because I was just so captured by the storyline. This book I was glad it was the end. It was a bit boring and needed some more spice.

As with the other stories in this series, I loved this fifth installment of the series! This story revolved around Zoe and Connor. It's an interesting change in that Zoe comes to the pack's neighborhood looking for a mate to counter her family's insistence that she marry someone else. Unlike the other stories, though, I wish it had gone into more detail about the chaos that seemed to be Zoe's family and how she essentially fought against it and followed her heart. I loved how Connor was a calming presence for Zoe, they just worked so well together. Looking forward to Ethan's story next!

I went in expecting another fun installment in this shifter series—but nobody warned me how hard this one would make me laugh. I was fully prepared for fated mates, wolf bites, and maybe a little chaos… but Zoe? Zoe brings chaos with charts, spreadsheets, and the kind of logic only a girl desperate to escape an arranged marriage could concoct. And honestly? I adored her from page one.

Zoe doesn’t want a love match—she wants security, safety, and a loophole to avoid her parents’ horrifying marriage deal. Everyone around her is falling for werewolves like it's seasonal flu, so naturally she crunches the numbers, applies logic, and goes hunting—mate-hunting, specifically.

But then she locks eyes with Connor.
And boom. The math checks out.
The execution? Hilariously, disastrously wrong.

She runs. He chases. Panic attacks meet wolf instincts.
I was laughing one minute and chewing my nails the next because Zoe’s anxiety is real, raw, and relatable, and Connor handles it with a tenderness that transformed me into a puddle.

Connor—sweet, self-doubting, protective Connor—never imagined someone would choose him. Watching him realize he's wanted? Heart-melting. Soul-squeezing. Instant favorite.

Meanwhile Ethan is in the background like the feral comic relief we didn’t know we needed—drinking, pouting, and demanding Maya’s number like it's national treasure. The pack dynamics? Still unmatched. The mate bond? Fast but so well earned. The steam? Just chef’s kiss. And Zoe's backup plan? I laughed so hard I nearly rolled off my bed.

This book has everything:

📊 A woman who tries to outsmart fate with math
🐺 A wolf who never expected to be chosen
🔥 Laugh-out-loud moment after moment
💗 Tenderness, vulnerability, and healing
👀 A mate hunt that is absolutely unhinged in the BEST way
📚 A pack you never want to say goodbye to

I knew this book would be good.
I didn’t know it would become comfort-food romance good.
Funny, cozy, steamy, emotional—a perfect blend of heart and humor.

Now I’m counting down the days until Ethan and Maya’s book, even though I’m already grieving the end of this series. It’s one I’ll miss dearly.

If you love fated mates with real connection, laughter that hurts your ribs, and a heroine whose brain is literally spreadsheets-to-survival, read this one immediately.

I knew the book was going to be good, but I didn’t expect it to be as funny as it was. OMG! lol. Zoe has a plan in place. She needs to find a mate from the last two guys that are in the Feral pack. She realizes that all of her friends, except Maya, has fallen for one of them. So two of the young professors are left as well as two ferals, that means most likely that there is a pairing for each woman. As math is her jam, she used it to figure out her plan. She needed it for her safety, security, well-being and her sanity. She had taken off from work and she felt bad because of the plan. She felt that she was awful for doing this as she didn’t want to go thru with the deal she had made with her parents. They would pay for her college if she married who they wanted. Blerg. When I found out the rest of it, I got sick to my stomach. She was worried about what her friends would say when they found out as well, especially Emmy. Her bestie. As she looked into Ethan’s eyes, nothing. When she turned to Connor and their eyes met, yup, mate hunt began. She knew what she had to do to force his wolf to bite her quickly. She ran. What happens next had me laughing because Zoe forgot one big thing- plans don’t always work out. You need to adapt them as you go along. Things get freaky and scary because Zoe is a control freak and has panic attacks. I got really anxious during this part.

I love Connor and Zoe together. They can calm each other down and he just can’t believe that she would want him. It broke my heart. When we get to see the rest of the pack, being worried, Ethan is ticked off because they won’t give him Maya’s number. lol. He is the only one who hasn’t been denied a mate, the rest of the pack is worried that it would kill him. Ethan is hilarious as he drinks and meanwhile Zoe & Connor are getting to know each other and they have the fastest mate hunt ever. lol. They talk and she admits what she did. When he finds out the reasons, he accepts and they are cute together and steamy. He is romantic with her and protective and possessive. Finding out her back up plan had me laughing so hard I almost fell out of bed. I loved the rest of the book. I can’t wait to read Ethan and Maya’s book, but then that is the last one. That makes me sad. I loved this series so much!.

2.5 stars rounded down

════ ❖ ════

*“the sun was high in the sky and we were both thoroughly covered in dirt. Somehow, I didn’t mind it. Probably because of all the orgasms.”*

════ ❖ ════

I was so excited for this one after liking Zoe in Emmy’s book, so imagine my disappointment when I opened this and immediately went, oh. Oh no. Who is this woman and why is she suddenly irritating me. Zoe just did not click for me here at all. I know she is anxious and overthinks everything, and that is fine in theory, but in practice it became exhausting very quickly. I wanted to shake her and say babe please relax for thirty seconds.

Connor was… fine. That is honestly the best word for him. He was sweet enough, supportive enough, funny in theory, but most of his little jokes just did not land for me. I kept waiting for him to have a moment where I went oh yes, that is why she fell so hard, and it never really came. He was pleasant. He existed. That is about it.

For such a short book, I was shocked by how much good stuff got skipped. Especially the wedding. We are told her parents are against it. There is meant to be tension. Drama. Emotional confrontation. And instead? Nothing. We just jump straight past it like it was a boring errand. Why even set that up if you are not going to use it. That was easily the most interesting potential plot point and it was completely wasted.

Instead, we got more mediocre spice, jokes that made me sigh, and Zoe spiralling again. It felt like all the potentially cute moments were left on the cutting room floor in favour of things I did not really care about. Give me family drama and emotional payoff, not another awkward sex scene and internal monologue.

Overall, this was not terrible, but it was easily my least favourite in the series so far. I did not hate it, I just felt very meh about the whole thing. I finished it and immediately thought, thank god, now I can move on. I am very much ready for Maya’s book and hoping it brings the magic back.

She's got a mating plan

Another lovely fantastically fun romantasy novella by Lola Glass following another from the "Feral Pack". Lola’s stories are always so well written with humour, banter, romance and human nature (worries, insecurities, etc causing problems) and this one is no different. It's full of drama, wonderful characters with brilliant chemistry, second chance at love, friendships, sexy wolf shifters with trauma in their pasts, heaps of humor, another cake, cheeky banter and spice💖. Again, I couldn't put down and would strongly recommend.

For a change in this one the FMC, Zoe, is being honest that she wants to be mated to a werewolf (and marry him). All her friend group are pairing with them so there's a strong chance she'll be the mate of another of the males; and she needs to get out of a contract with her parents; so she agrees to go to the book club meeting just not knowing who's eyes might turn red (I loved the book mention "Burning Kingdom" series as that was the first by Lola that I'd read).

I glanced at him. "He doesn't hate me for it."
His eyes narrowed.
"If he doesn't hate you for it, he's probably excited," Emmy said. "I think Connor and Ethan both wanted mates."
I narrowed my eyes back, just for the hell of it.
His lips curved slightly.
"Maybe," I said.
"That's a yes. What else does your plan involve?"

Connor was sure she would reject him just as his first had so is taken by surprise when he realises that she'd been planning it. Zoe's a fun girl who plans for everything, but she's feeling guilty for trapping him and her wolf has no problems with not keeping him in sight. Connor enjoys peace and photography, and just wants to support his pack and friends. They work so well together this was a delight to read; and I can't wait for the next to see how light-hearted Ethan and Maya do.

*I got an arc*

Zoe knows about werewolves (after all FOUR of her friends/co-workers have found themselves mated to them!). Not only does she know about werewolves, she thinks that getting a mate will be an excellent way to avoid marrying the man her parents want her to. The plan: go to werewolf book club, stare into the eyes of the two men who don't have mates, and hope for the best!

Connor was pretty fine not having a mate (unlike the others, his rejection story wasn't traumatic and ended the best it could for everyone around). So when a certain someone locks eyes with him at book club, he's a bit surprised.

Can Zoe & Connor embrace the mate bond between them? Will Connor forgive her for intentionally triggering a mate bond?

***

This novella is my second favourite of the series I think. While there are stakes (with Zoe's family etc.), they feel secondary to the relationship between Zoe and Connor. It just feels like a warm hug. I appreciate how different the tone of Connor's rejected mate is to some of the previous ones: his mate was not an awful person (although Connor's family seems to be a bit terrible) and his rejected status is not central to the plot.

My one critique is that the ending seemed a bit rushed. I would have liked to have seen the contents of Chapter 9 in more detail as the lack of detail didn't seem to match the first hand perspective the rest of the book had.

I can't believe there's only one book left in the series! I would love if she did more in the Mate Hunt world.

I always find Lola's books fun, and an excellent palate cleanser. Her light and lovable approach to writing paranormal romance has been one of the highlights of 2025 for me, so I thought I would start my New Year with reviewing her newest novella.

The intertwined novellas featuring the Feral Pack are such an easy read, and this is not an exception. We have the usual troupes but a reversal - this time our heroine is setting out to find herself a mate as part of a semi-nefarious (though not nefarious at all) plan to escape her family. Of course she is the fifth of the friend group to find her wolf, and in the space of a week they muddle through becoming mates and getting married.

I feel like this instalment could have used a little more padding. I really wanted to know Zoe's backstory - who is she? Who is this Machiavellian family that locked their own daughter into a strange contract? Adding a few more pages of that backstory would have done a lot for me.

Overall though I am not unhappy, and looking forwards to the next (and final) instalment.

Also, every one of you out there deserves a Connor.

Zoe feels like she needs to be in control and makes plans for everything, which makes her incredibly relatable to me. I enjoyed watching Zoe try to apply reason and planning to the absolute chaos of a werewolf mate-bond. She definitely didn't plan on her first shift going the way it did! The way Connor coaches her through it was incredibly endearing.

I loved them together. Connor is perfect for Zoe and a total sweetheart. His laid-back personality, while still completely devoted to taking care of her, is exactly what she needs. Their sense of humor works well together, and I loved how he used it to help distract her from her worries and anxiety.

This story is pure escapism. There is just enough conflict to keep the plot moving, but the main focus is on the developing connection, the funny banter, and the fated nature of their bond. A great novella for anyone looking to escape into a steamy but low-stakes read before bed!.

‘The Logical Girl’s Guide to Mating w/a Werewolf’ is the first in the ‘Mate Hunted’ series where the FMC walked up to the single feral men looking for a mate bond. This is a great 2-hour read. Lola Glass wove her magic through Connor and Zoe’s story and produced a quality written novella with a fantastic storyline, filled with very likable, unique characters. This is the second to the last in this series. I’m going to hate to see it end, but I’m looking forward to book 6 regardless … Ethan and Maya’s story looks like it’s going to be super interesting!

I read every Lola Glass book. I liked this book, sure. But she is phoning it in for the sake of clicks and reads on KU. I paid 2.99 for this and the last few in the series (no KU) and I feel a bit ripped off.
The back story of why she wants a mate is almost instantly glossed over, especially without even a confrontation with her parents at the end.
I read this book last night and this morning and can remember nothing about it. She's a vegetarian, but that natural conflict with her wolf isn't even commented on. Not even COMMENTED ON.
The tension of the next and final couple was more interesting than the last half of this book.
I really love Lola and know she just gave birth, but this series of novellas and this one in particular is not the way to treat loyal readers.
Gosh, I'm just disappointed.

Short but addictive so hang on you won’t put it down until the last page has been turned. Zoe is our girl who comes from the background of desperation of escaping an arranged marriage but she does by way of charts, spreadsheets all colorful but she is looking for safe, security and to honestly avoid her parents marriage deal so if she have to find her own werewolf then so be it mate hunting here she comes. Connor sexy as all get out easy going, self-doubting because of what he has been through, but he doesn’t want a mate only because of the unpleasant memories or so he thought until he met his second chance than his world shifted. The magnetic pull is there of course but we get to see him take care of her when her anxiety gets the best of her but is it enough to keep her parents away, will he give her strength to stand up to them, and is this our next couple to find their happiness?

Conner and Zoe are the couple in book 5 of the Mate Hunted series, it’s a bit different from the others in that Zoe wants & needs to get mated/married to a werewolf ASAP ! She needs to outwit her rich parents or end up married to someone 40 years older than she is. Conner just wants to be mated, so when Zoe comes to book club, his wolf takes one look and the hunt is on ! The characters are fun and have very interesting personalities, and the storylines are converging into book 6, which will be their last female and male friends fighting off the mating bug ! I can’t wait to read it ! 5✨’s for a sweet & hot werewolf romance !.

This short story was a cute palette cleanser. I liked the twist of the woman wanting a werewolf mate but I did not feel this book as much as the other ones. These two were cute and I loved Conner but the book was an ok story. I have loved all the other ones but I think I would have enjoyed this book more if we had a little more drama with her family. The whole book was about her getting out of a contract with her parents but their was no interaction with the parents. I think it would have made the story line more intriguing with some more supporting characters. Still love the mate hunt series and can not wait for Ethan's story.

Quick and easy

This installment of the hunt series is extremely quick and to the point, but it works pretty well despite being only 110 pages.

Zoe is determined, likeable and open, despite her past idiocy and current lack of backbone. Honestly it surprises me that I do like her so much since the parental control FMCs tend to infuriate me. Conner is solid in the MMC role. He's caring and supportive, even when resigned to reliving past trauma. His acceptance of Zoe and slightly silly distraction methods work really well.

The book is pretty cookie cutter to the series. The author tidied up a few of her cannon twists that bugged me in some recent books, making those more acceptable as well. Editing is good. Pacing is quick. It's a win for the series.

Zoe has a plan for everything but I don’t think she could have planned for the possibility of what Connor will be to her. The weight of expectations from her family is crushing her, and she thinks she has found a solution. Connor is ready to support her in facing her family and her fears.

Zoe is a character. I can relate to so much with all of her issues with anxiety. The way she plans everything to give herself some sense of control is so familiar. Connor comes in and helps take some of that control away in a way that allows her to relax. Their chemistry is immediate and off the charts. 3.5 peppers!

I absolutely love these two together and I can’t wait for the next installment of the Mate Hunt series.
