Wilder Horizons #4

Swooned by You

Rate this book
There are two problems with Dr. Theodore Hale. First—his housing permit only gets approved if he has a “partner.” Second—somehow, I’ve become the woman who has to fill that role.

Annie Wilder has never met a horizon she didn’t want to chase. As the CFO of Wilder Horizons, she’s in the Galápagos Islands to evaluate a high-stakes expansion into one of the most tightly regulated destinations on earth—and to quietly fix a vendor disaster before it torpedoes the company’s reputation. She expects permits, politics, and a whole lot of logistics. She does not expect the grumpy, sunburned marine biologist who looks at her like she’s the human embodiment of an invasive species.

Dr. Theodore Hale is a world-renowned marine mammal specialist on sabbatical from the University of Florida—brilliant, brutally exacting, and allergic to anything that smells like tourism. His research on Galápagos sea lions is already hanging by a thread of limited funding and stricter-than-strict regulations. The last thing he needs is a corporate travel executive from rival-school Florida State sniffing around his field station… or a paperwork glitch that makes it easier to keep his cabin if everyone believes Annie is his partner.

One housing office misunderstanding, one signed form, and one very smug, very infuriating “It’s temporary, Ms. Wilder” later… Annie and Theo are sharing a tiny cabin, a very real bed, and a very fake relationship the whole island seems invested in. Between UF–FSU smack talk, bilingual flirting, boat decks crowded with sea lions, and nights when the generator cuts out and the stars feel too close, it gets harder to remember where the act stops and the wanting starts.

Swooned By You is a tropical, slow-burn, fake-relationship romantic comedy set in the wild heart of the Galápagos—featuring enemies-to-lovers energy, grumpy professor vs sunshine CFO vibes, forced proximity, scientific chaos, and kisses that feel like losing your balance on a wet dock. Perfect for readers who love smart banter, emotional depth, and men who fall stupid-hard for the one woman they swore they’d never tolerate.

Adult language, adult situations, and one very serious scientist who really wishes she’d stop calling him Teddy… and absolutely does not. one bed, sea lion drama, UF vs FSU rivalry energy, and enough tropical heat to fog up your snorkel mask. Recommended 18+.

(4.25 stars!) thank you to the wonderful author for this ARC!

I really enjoyed returning to the Wilder Horizons world. Annie and Theo completely stole the show for me. Their dynamic is sharp, funny, and packed with chemistry. The slow burn is done so well, balancing tension, banter, and genuine emotional connection.

Annie’s bold, firecracker energy pairs perfectly with Theo’s grumpy, self-restrained intensity. Watching them clash, challenge each other, and gradually unravel was easily the highlight. Their inner thoughts and the way they describe one another added depth and made their relationship feel authentic.

I liked the science-y aspects as well, and I appreciated how they reinforced the characters’ intelligence and roles.

The setting, humor, Wilder sister moments, and tropes (enemies to lovers, forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine, slow burn) all blended together seamlessly.

A fun, engaging romance that works well on its own while adding nicely to the series.

I am a longtime romance reader, and I always love when a series gives the youngest sibling her moment to shine. Even though this is book four, it worked well for me as a standalone. I was especially excited to read about this heroine, who serves as the CFO of her family’s travel business and brings strong STEM energy to the story.

The setting immediately pulled me in and gave the romance a fresh, adventurous feel. I also enjoyed the forced proximity element and the way the MMC quickly recognizes and appreciates the FMC’s intelligence and curiosity. Their connection felt grounded in mutual respect, which made their relationship easy to root for.
This is definitely more of a slow burn romance, but I enjoyed watching their relationship grow over time. While it is marketed as a romantic comedy and I did not personally find it very funny, I still found the story engaging and heartfelt.

All in all, I really enjoyed this book and was happy to spend time with these characters. It made me even more interested in the rest of the series and the larger world surrounding this family.

**I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**

I was so excited to read this book as I’ve read one of the books in this series already. Each book follows a different Wilder character so they can be read as standalone. Annie is in the Galápagos Islands to fix a vendor disaster and evaluate an expansion. She runs into Dr Theo immediately but he’s not impressed with her. Due to a housing issue they get put together in a couples cabin that only has one bed. But then he realizes how smart she is. And starts seeing her in a different light. This is a slow burn which I won’t lie is never my favorite but for this series it’s perfect. Their chemistry is fantastic from the beginning. Plus who doesn’t love a forced proximity and shared bed romance!

Theo? Hot. Confident. Grumpy. Slightly dominant in the best way. The tension between him and Annie is there from the very start. The romance is slow burn but the chemistry is sizzling. It is worth the wait! 🔥

I loved the setting. The tiny cabin. The one bed. The forced proximity. The island heat. It all adds to the feeling “this is definitely going to get messy”.

Annie holds her own. Theo pushes back. Watching them soften and give in to their feelings makes it a very satisfying romance.

If you love tension, grumpy x sunshine and one bed, this book deserves a spot on your list.

Second time as a Beta reader and I STILL CANNOT BELIVE IT 😭

Kate, you have a gift for writing POV’s! I’ll say the exact same thing I said in the feedback email: It’s magnificent that through your writing, I can understand the different personalities of them. He is controlled. Like you have few words but they say everything. And she is more full sentences and with informations giving the “all over the place” vibes.

This was GENIUS! You don’t even have to put the name of them in the chapter because I already know who is it!

I love Annie and Theo’s story! In a more “scientific ambience”, both intelligent as f*ck, with a lot of tension and a slow burn that had me SCREAMINGGG!
It was a little different from the previous ones but still amazing!

They were both so sweet! The respect that they have for each other is amazing. They prioritize their work and themselves, it was beautiful to see LIKE ALAWAYS in all the books from Kate!

I just need to say one more thing… the BIOLUMINESCENCE SCENE WAS BEAUTIFUL OMG!

So, thank you again Kate for this opportunity. I can’t thank you enough. It’s really a privilege to be apart of this ❤️❤️

Just to finalize this are my “ quotes that rent free in my head”:

“I bet he f*cks like he runs a research station - with a devastating combination of dominance and procedural” LOVE IT

“She thinks beautifully. That’s the dangerous part.” OMGGG

quick note:
and now you ask “why do you only gave 4.5 stars if you love the book so much?” because non of this classifications are the finals. When I read series, in the end, I like to do a little recap and think. Like what was my favourite story, character.. stuff like that! So yeah… in the end I will adjust de stars 😉

I have not read any of the other books to this series, but after this read I definitely will be adding them to my TBR! This read had every trope I love; forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine, the professor aspect 👀 who knew science could be so hot! The author does a great job with explaining the scenery and building these characters up. Loved this!

Fab read!

Annie and Theo's first encounter quickly escalates into something neither expects! One minute, they're complete strangers and the next, they're roomies. She's a firecracker of a woman and he's stoic and dour, but I was there for their dynamic. I loved their attraction and the way their fought it - their exchanges made me laugh and also made me giddy.

I adored the setting, the characters, the chemistry, the tension, and the writing! Can't wait to read more by this author.

Another perfect read by the amazing Kate!! I’ve been hooked with the wilder sisters since the the first book and everyone is so amazing and this one felt extra special with the science back ground in it! I always wanted to be a marine biologist and reading this book just made me so happy. I love how unique and different these two were and how perfect they are for each other. They are the perfect pair that complement each other so well it’s crazy! The story is everything and I love this series so much

I love the Wilder series and each of the sisters who make up this series. This one was no different.

Annie Wilder is the CFO of Wilder Horizons, the company their father left to Annie and her sisters. She gets sent to the Galápagos Islands to to fix things with a vendor who allowed tourists to get too up close and personal with the sea lions. Which could cause more harm than just stress to the wildlife.

Dr. Theodore “Theo” Hale is a marine biology professor, studying the behavioral patterns of the mammals on the island. When he can’t get a cabin for his stay they book him a couples suite and now he is sharing this tiny cabin with a women he is not allowed to want but is fighting himself over everyday.

Neither of these two would admit to the attraction they shared and this was so fun to witness. Annie is a wildcard firecracker. I love a sassy, smart mouthed fmc and she delivered. She figured out what buttons to push on the good professor and mashed them with all she had.

Theo is a lesson is self restraint that I would never be able to accomplish. The way he holds himself back is crazy to me. I wish I had that much will power just not eating an entire sleeve of Oreos let alone fighting an attraction to someone I shouldn’t.

This was a slow burn but the spice was hot!

This book was written differently as both of these individuals are highly intelligent and the language used is specific to the field they are working in. But man the way they click and see each other is crazy. I know we all wish we could feel this way with our significant others.

If you’ve never read anything by Kate Sweden, I highly encourage you to read this series. You’ll love all the Wilder women.

Swooned By You by Kate Sweden is an easy five star read for me. This book had everything I love wrapped up in tropical heat, smart banter, and a slow burn that absolutely delivers.

Annie is driven, sharp, and completely capable of holding her own. Watching her step into a high stakes business situation in the Galápagos while accidentally stumbling into a fake relationship with the world’s grumpiest marine biologist was pure gold. She is sunshine with steel underneath and I adored her.

And Theodore Hale. Brilliant. Broody. Socially allergic to anything corporate. The UF versus FSU rivalry energy alone had me grinning, but it was the way he slowly unraveled that really got me. The man falls hard and it is so satisfying to witness. The tension in that tiny cabin, the one bed situation, the generator cutting out under a sky full of stars… it was intimate without rushing and romantic without losing the humor.
The setting felt alive. The sea lions, the research chaos, the tight regulations, the island gossip. I could practically feel the ocean air and hear the dock creaking. It made the forced proximity and fake partnership trope hit even harder because everything felt so real and layered.

What I loved most was the emotional depth underneath all the banter. This was not just a cute tropical rom com. It was about passion for your work, protecting what you love, and realizing that the one person you thought you could not stand might be the one who sees you the clearest.

Smart, funny, swoony, and full of heart. If you love grumpy professor meets sunshine powerhouse, fake relationship tension, one bed chaos, and a hero who falls stupid hard, this book needs to be on your list.

Five stars and I am still smiling about it.

This was a really enjoyable, easy romance with a great setting and a classic trope done well.
The story follows Annie, a driven CFO trying to manage a high-stakes project in the Galápagos, and Theo, a serious, no-nonsense marine biologist who wants nothing to do with corporate interference. A housing mix-up forces them into a fake relationship and into sharing a small cabin, which naturally complicates things.
What I liked most was how natural the progression felt. The story takes its time letting Annie and Theo get to know each other, and the shift from irritation to something more never feels rushed or overly dramatic. Theo’s grumpy personality softens in a believable way, and Annie’s optimism balances him without making her feel unrealistic.
The setting adds a lot to the story. The details about research work, regulations, and daily life on the island give it a grounded feel without becoming overwhelming. Their banter is steady and sometimes playful, but not exaggerated, which makes their dynamic feel more real.
The one bed and fake dating elements are there, but they are handled in a way that supports the characters rather than taking over the story. It focuses more on the slow build between them than on big, dramatic moments.
Overall, this is a solid, lighthearted romance with good pacing, a unique backdrop, and characters that feel easy to spend time with. A nice pick if you are in the mood for something calm, warm, and character-driven.

ARC Review — Releases February 24

Grumpy marine scientist x sunshine chaos queen and forced proximity on an island? This was an easy yes for me!!

What stood out most in this installment was the emotional restraint layered beneath the chemistry. Theo’s distance isn’t coldness, it’s containment. Annie’s perceptiveness challenges him in ways that feel organic rather than forced, and their dynamic builds with tension that feels earned.

The underwater scenes were especially compelling. The recurring metaphors of depth, buoyancy, and “controlled descent” mirrored their emotional arc in a thoughtful and immersive way. The writing shines in these quieter, reflective moments.

The intimacy builds with intention, and I appreciated the consent forward tension that made their connection feel grounded and deliberate rather than rushed.

The final stretch leans more heavily into established relationships and threads from previous books in the series. As someone who hasn’t revisited those earlier arcs recently, I felt a slight pacing slowdown. However, readers deeply invested in the broader character universe will likely find this expansion especially rewarding.

Overall, Annie and Theo absolutely earn their HEA, and the title callback was a perfect final note….

“I don’t swoon.”
“You absolutely swoon.”
“Incorrect. I strategically destabilize.”

A strong addition to the series.

Swooned by You, the fourth book in Kate Sweden's Wilder Horizons series is a very different flavor than the first books. Enigmatic and methodical, the love story of Annie and Theo is a very slow burn.

The pacing in this book is very different. Used to the energy and quick actions over the first three books in this series, this story stands out as more deliberate in crafting. And what I love about this, is that it Sweden did this to match the intensity and mindset of her two protagonist.

Set in the Galapagos, I spent the first half of the book trying to figure out Annie's background. Like Theo, a college professor and researcher, it was clear that all the pieces were not quite evident or together when it came to shaping her. And when the reveal of her core happens, it makes sense and it really creates a stronger connection between the two, but allows the story to carry forward more mystery.

There are no fiery, knock-down fights in the book. Just deliberate restraint, choices, and connection. It was quite beautifully written. And while I think the other Wilder stories were more enjoyable in some ways as a reader, as a person who also appreciates the craft of writing, this book is notable.

Review of an ARC copy from the author

This is my first time reading the Wilder Horizons series. I can confidently say that this is the kind of series that I will find myself dabbling back into when I need a reading shake up. The book is one of my favorite palette cleanser sub-genres; the romance rom-com.

I enjoyed bouncing between Annie and Theo's POV. I was thrilled that Annie was like a tigress on the prowl. She saw Theo as an opportunity and continued to hunt him, respectfully. She often thought to herself, that she was into the idea of pursuing something physical...but only if he was also into it. It was just nice to read a woman that knew exactly what she wanted and was aiming for a happy evening more than a happily ever after.

The best thing in this series was how each of them found the other's competency sexy. Both of them would be phenomenal instacart shoppers should times ever get rough.

Some of the lines are super cheesy and really leaned in to the science lingo, but in the way that make rom-coms happy/heart warming movies. A few of my favorites include but are not limited to:

"I registered her attraction the way I would have registered a Category 4 hurricane -- as a clear and present threat to my structural integrity"

"Theo Hale didn't raise his voice. He didn't have to He just occupied the room with a density that made everyone else's frantic energy loo like a waste of resources."

I have had the pleasure of reading all four books in this series and none of them disappoint!

Annie is one of the Wilder sisters who inherited their father's high end travel company when he died. Theo is a professor and does marine life research. The two meet when she has to handle a situation for the company where one of their excursions encroached on the wildlife Theo has been monitoring.

The travel company was not really Annie's dream. We find out that she was in school for marine studies, focusing on hammerhead shark migration, when her father died. To save the business for her sisters, she changed course, got a business degree, and stepped into her role with the company.

The friction and banter between Theo and Annie will have you laughing out loud. It doesn't take long for the snappy comments to turn into mutual respect and then something way hotter!

Now I'm left waiting for book 5!.

I have SOOO MUCH FUN reading this book. Kate Sweden has the ability to make me laugh out loud and at the same time move me to tears.
Anne and Theo are just perfect for each other. They are smart, focus and loyal. Anne putted her family over her career years ago, and now she has this unique opportunity to reconnect with that part of herself she gave up. Theo is the most closed up person written in this world. Control is his first and middle name. Also his last name. But Anne will break every wall, find every crack in his armor. They click and clash and make me swoon and curse and shout.
I’m not a fan of slow burn romances, but this one was amazing. Love everything about it. The chemistry is off the chart and Galapagos is now in the list of places I MUST visit.
I highly recommend this story and this series!

This was my first book by Kate Sweden but it for sure wont be my last.
I had a lot of fun reading this one.
Annie was super smart and just a fun sunshine gal. People underestimate her till they get to know her and then she surprises them with her huge brain.
Theo was a great mmc. He really tried to resist her, poor thing. He didn't stand a chance. Extremely focused on his research he didnt want the distraction but when they both finally caved in it was great. I loved how they talked things out and were very respectful of each others time and what they each wanted to accomplish. Neither one of them had to sacrifice their passions and I just thought that was really cool.
Definitely recommend this one if you want something funny with some spice.

As a marine mammal scientist myself I was excited to read the blurb and dive into this book. But classic scientist, I became critical of the way the science was described and it ended up distracting from the heart of the story. There were some great lines that leaned into the scientist characters but the bigger picture research was described both in too much detail and not enough and simply made no sense. I'm not sure if it was worse because I am a scientist myself but it was irritating when I couldn't picture what was going on or why, especially since so much time was spent talking about the science. Similarly the bed is described as a "single" which I initially interpreted to mean twin, from the later descriptions of sharing the bed without touching this clearly was not the case but with all of the other over-explaining it seemed weird that the size of the bed wasn't mentioned since the fact that there was only one came up multiple times. Anyway, I did enjoy the story despite my many hang-ups because the banter between Annie and Theo was great and I love reading intelligent female MCs. Holy moly another home run for author Kate Sweden! Swooned By You is definitely one to add to your “to do” list. Once again the depth and breath of Annie and Theo’s story is off the chart. This author pulls the reader in and immerses the reader so deeply you feel the waves and hear the sea lion barks as if you are right there in this installment. These Wilder sisters find the most interesting partners in the most interesting places and Annie’s story is no different. She’s a complex character yet Theo just gets her. He’s her perfect match and soulmate. I really really like this series and couldn’t put this next chapter of the sisters down. I can’t wait for the next. Overall, this was a cute and light romance that kept me entertained. It is slow burn told from dual POVs and an easy read.

The pacing was a bit difficult at times. I would have loved to see more dialogue between the characters. It was somewhat frustrating to have chapters repeat what had just happened from the alternative POV.

I enjoyed the witty, nerdy banter and appreciated that Theo recognized and respected Annie’s intelligence and competence. The emphasis on the scientific components interesting. The storytelling seemed to keep Annie and Theo isolated from the rest of the research team other than a casual mention.

This was my first book by the author.

I have read all the previous books in this series, so I was so happy to have Annie's story. I love this book for so many reasons:
1- I am from Ecuador and the Galapagos are part of it
2- Give STEM characters - I am a STEM girl, engineer-
3 - Delicious banter with well researched terms!
4 - All the adventures and travel
5 - A sunshine girl, Annie, who combines brains, personality, and street smarts
6 - A scorching hot nerd, Theo, who wants to protect the environment and is a closeted romantic
7 - All the tension that builds into passion

This just had it all, plus a great fast paced plot, a delicious relationship, and all the feels!

Thank you to BookSirens for providing me with an ARC.

The slow burn and the dual POV kept me entertained. It was a cute story and overall an easy read.

As a Spanish speaker, I also found it interesting to see the use of both languages throughout the book. That was a fun element for me.

That said, the pacing was a bit difficult at times. I would have loved to see more dialogue between the characters. In a few instances, a chapter would end and the next one would go back and repeat the same scene from earlier, which felt a little confusing while reading.

Overall, it was a cute and light romance that kept me entertained.

Book 4 of the Wilder Horizons Series. Can be read as a standalone.

'Perfect for readers who love smart banter, emotional depth, and men who fall stupid-hard for the one woman they swore they’d never tolerate.'

The characters drove the storyline and they were so very appealing and likeable and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and exciting and well paced. World building was solidly drawn and impressive. All in all a great addition to the series. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

I am OBSESSED with Annie and Theo. The science goes over my head a little, but I love that every discovery about the science is also a discovery of patterns between Annie and Theo. The chemistry is incredible, and the Wilder sister chats are always a blast. The metaphors are amazing, and I love every reference to the scents and scenery around them. This book hits all of my favorite tropes: enemies to lovers, forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine, only one bed! Such a wild ride, and there are SEA TURTLES!!!

Thank you to Kate Sweden for the ARC! This story leans into tension over theatrics. The push pull dynamic between the MMC & FMC felt grounded instead of chaotic, and the slow unraveling was the best part of the book!

The timeline got a little off for me between the end of one pov chapter to the beginning of a different pov chapter. It doesn’t take away from the story but did leave me confused a few times.

Tropes:
Slow Burn
Fake Relationship
Forced Proximity
One Bed

I ADORE the Wilder sisters, truly! Kate has worked so hard to make them relatable & each of their personalities truly shines in their own books.

This book is an instant attention grabber and so hard to put down! If you love a dual POV, with a grumpy, irresistible, tanned, broody type MMC THIS IS IT.
The slow burn? The instant attraction and chemistry? The story? All 10/10! I love that this book can stand all by itself, but is a great addition to the Wilder Horizon series.
The way Theo & Annie describe each other, their inner thoughts, & the funny moments truly made this story stand out.

I received an ARC of this book from the author. I love a STEM romance and this was such a fun ride!

I swoon for a competent FMC who knows what she wants and Annie fits the bill. She is unexpected and moves with grace and precision.

Theo is controlled and meticulous and I love to watch a disciplined man unravel. Kate Sweden does this beautifully.

This was my first Kate Sweden read but now I have to go read the rest of the series because I not only fell in love with Annie and Theo, but I fell in love with all of the Wilder sisters. I live for their sister chat!

I liked this book well enough and it was a quick easy read. The two main characters have nice banter which I enjoyed. I also did like how the book was written using dual perspectives so you can get more of a feel of both characters. My only complaint would be sentence structure in parts of the book. There were many sentences that weren’t structurally full sentences but that might’ve been done on purpose as a look into the characters thoughts. I think this series is worth a read as a cute simple palate cleanser.

I read this as an ARC read from the Author.

I absolutely Loved this story. A grumpy marine biologist and a sunshine CEO Annie.
The are at the Galapagos Island steading the Sea Lions. They have to share a very small cabin and 1 read bed while the people are fully invested in them thinking they are a couple.
They flirt in the water, in the cabin and everywhere else.
Annie loves to get him, she calls him "Professor and Teddy" he tells her not to call him that. So she does it to get the banter going.
This is a very funny story. I really enjoyed reading it.

This was a great addition to the Wilder Horizons series. It’s a slow burn, forced proximity, enemies to lovers romance, all wrapped up with witty banter and sizzling tension. Annie and Theo were a fun couple and I enjoying watching them go from bickering to a true connection. I also liked that the characters were intelligent and I gladly admit that I nerded out at all the science stuff. The author has a great writing style and the story flowed well.
