Original Post: House of Ravens (The Nightfall Chronicles 2) at FLYLēF (www.flylef.com)

I WAS LEFT feeling emotional raw after turning the last page of Karpov Kinrade’s House of Ravens (The Nightfall Chronicles 2). I can’t go into the specifics or I may say too much. But, this I can share: An unspeakable tragedy falls upon one of my favorite characters. I am still saddened and shocked by the turn of events. I wish you would take it back Mr. and Mrs. Karpov Kinrade. I’m upset! I’m in denial!

I accept.

At almost twice the number of pages compared to Court of Nightfall, the second installment – House of Ravens – definitely reads as a more thoroughly fleshed out story. The action scenes are captivating. There were times when I would catch myself thinking, Run Scarlett. Get out. Now! This is balanced nicely with slower periods allowing me to better connect with the characters. A few of my favorites include: dangerous and manipulative King Varian, mysterious and noble Prince Kai, utterly charming Prince Wytt, and beautiful and selfless Princess Corinne. I enjoyed these new characters very much and liked the dynamic way they fold into Scarlett’s story.

Hurled into a foreign life as a new Initiate at Castle Vianney, Scarlett fights to rise above her classmates with one sole purpose – to destroy the Orders from within. From outside the castle walls, she dons the mask of Nightfall. Together with Zorin and the Shadow of Rome, she unites the rebels to stand against the Order.

Living a dual life comes with many sacrifices. However, it is good to see that Scarlett is not entirely alone and that there is still happiness in her life. Fans of Jax may begin to waiver their affections, much like Scarlett, when the chivalrous Kai competes for her heart. I don’t particular enjoy love triangles; I believe there are other ways to introduce tension to a relationship other than a third party. What’s even stranger is when Zorin begins to drop hints that he, too, may be smitten with Scarlett. Wow! A love…square? Silly as this may seem, the romantic interactions are enduring, if not complicated.

This book would have been nearly perfect if not for the writing errors. It’s hard for me to overlook good editing especially at this professional level when readers are asked to purchase the book. I saw it in Court of Nightfall, and I see it again here. But, if you can see pass that, you will discover a phenomenal story that ends with a very emotional and heart-wrenching conclusion worthy of every tear.

Holy. Mother***!! What was THIS??

Try an intense and amazing whirlwind of a story. It truly hits you right in the feels because dammit, I feel like I just got shoved off a roller coaster of awesome.

So our heroine, Scarlett, has really matured in this book and it is breathtaking. Her ability to love and find love again, but also fight to reconcile her dual identities is just amazing. She made some grave mistakes that had me crying all over my reader but... But it made sense.

You dont know what you're missing guys!! The authors have done it again; created a story of the Nephilim and war that is compelling. Plot twists after plot twist will leave you breathless and picking your jaw off the floor because dammit, this was pure joy to read.

The plot twists make sense. The story makes sense. EVERYTHING happens for a reason!

Lastly I would like to rave about Kai. Because I was so freaken happy she got over Jax and they were PERFECT together. I honestly hope she doesn't go back to Jax because I stand by what I said earlier, Zorin is yummy! But alas, I'm not sure if he is actually interested... It's complicated okay? But shit hit the proverbial fan when no one was ready.

Go read this book, dammit. You don't know what you're missing!

"House of Ravens" the next intoxicating and gripping chapter in the " Nightfall Chronicles" begins with Scarlett Night struggling to balance her studies as an Initiate at Castle Viannery with rebel assaults in her dual identity as Nightfall. In the struggle to bring equality and justice to both Zeniths and Normals and to destroy the corruption within the Four Order, Scarlett confronts daunting obstacles; a clash of wills with other rebel bands; the hatred of the leader of the Inquisition; and a new formidable adversary in King Varian, a hero in the Nephilim War. With each step Scarlett must determine the path Nightfall and the Dark Templar will follow in the rebellion to overthrow tyranny and oppression and bring peace.

Amid all the chaos, violence and lies, Scarlett befriends King Varian's children at the Academy and finds herself drawn to Princess Corinne's brother, the handsome and skilled warrior Prince Kai. Although she admitted her love to Sir Jax any romance between them is forbidden as his sense of duty, desire to rise in the ranks of the Order and his dislike of Nightfall's tactics grows. With Jax away on a secret mission she gravitates more and more to Kai's love and acceptance. Torn between the two men , Scarlett also begins to suspect that Zorin has feelings for her, although she continues to see him only as a mentor and friend. Her love and loyalty will be challenged when an event changes her life, forcing her to not only save the one she loves but to choose between her best friends.

In this captivating and innovative plot the writers bring to life a world torn apart after the Nephilim War where one race was annihilated, and the Zeniths who have paranormal abilities left subjugated and oppressed. In a setting marred by violence, inequality and injustice, two Nephilim- Zorin and Nightfall- fight to overthrow the repression and to bring peace. This story vibrates with action and romance as events unfold that have Scarlett trying to bring some kind of order to the rebellion as death stalks Nightfall and her friends. Intensity and suspense mount with every twist and turn in a plot that keeps you guessing.

In this saga the characters continue to grow, their flaws, faults and strengths adding depth and dimension to this powerful drama. Scarlett Night plagued by nightmares of Zenith deaths continues to hone her fighting skills, impatient to perfect them. Unwavering in her cause, she continues to lie to her friends and mask her identity even with the rebels she considers family. Yet with every confrontation and decision Scarlett grows stronger in her direction and purpose. Sir Jax the Fourth Order Knight and Scarlett's best friend grows more secretive, wary and rigid in his outlook, putting his duty and ambition first. In contrast Prince Kai tormented by tragedy in his past appears to be arrogant and cocky but is tender and kind; loving Scarlett unconditionally. He's very protective of his younger brother Wytt, a carefree flirt with the soul of a poet and his sister Corinne, heir to the throne of Sapientia who's caring, honest, intelligent and brave. Chancellor Forrester, Scarlett's grandfather continually demonstrates his protective instinct as well as subtle deceptiveness while Zorin develops a more compassionate and perceptive nature as he begins to realize the extent of his feelings for Scarlett.

Yet it's the unpredictable traits of Scarlett's enemies that give the reader pause for thought. Ragathon the proud and impetuous leader of the Inquisition who disdains his brother shows warmth and tenderness towards his niece and nephews which overflows into his relationship with Scarlett while King Varian who seems ruthless and cunning shows a more emotional side. In this book there is no black and white with the characters, rather shades of grey.

"House of Ravens" the next explosive chapter in this epic saga is a fast-paced and exciting blend of science fiction, fantasy and romance which I couldn't put down and highly recommend.

***I was given this ARC by the author, Karpov Kinrade, in exchange for an Honest Review***

House of Ravens picks up pretty much where Court of Nightfall ends. Scarlett is starting to come into her own balancing being herself as well as Nightfall. Zorin is still around, and still pushing Scarlett to be the best Nephilim she can be; and the reader is introduced to an array of brand new characters to love, hate, and love to hate.

I will admit, this book is more of an emotional roller-coaster than the first book was. There's definite cause to keep the tissues close by, and it wouldn't be wise to read this around small children if the reader gets lost in their books since there are a few parts that will make the reader absolutely livid.

The plot Court of Nightfall started is deepened in House of Ravens as the rest of the chess board is set up and the players start to make their moves. There's plenty of shocking twists and surprises to keep the reader on their toes and the pages turning until sadly... the book is finished.

I can't wait until book 3.

I give this book 5 of 5 paws.

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

I read the first edition of House of Ravens in March 2015 and second edition in January 2016. I read somewhere that the authors had mentioned that there were only subtle changes nothing drastic. I agree with that to an extent. I thought when reading the second edition that I had seen something or recognized something in the revised book that I did not see in the first edition but after reading my review again I realized that I did see it the first time but I was just more open to it the second time. I felt more in tuned with not only Scarlett and the other characters but with the authors as well.

I feel like I know Scarlett, Nightfall, Zorin, Kai, Wytt, Corinne, Trix, TR and even King Varian more. I feel like I got to know more of Scarlett’s everyday life as a Templar in training, and a student at Castle V. I love how she will stand up and fight for what she believes in no matter what the cost to her maybe. I love how she stands up to her instructors and won’t back down when they don’t agree on something or maybe doesn’t believe the same way. She is a very honest person with a great big heart and would never hurt anyone unless they really and truly deserved it.

Scarlett Night is a Nephilim who lives a double life. As Scarlett Night she is just a human teenage girl just going to college during the day, training to be a Knights Templar. And at night she is Nightfall and like a super hero; a Nephilim with special abilities that no human has. Scarlett wants to make the world a better place for Zeniths, Nephilim, humans and anyone else out there they may be different. She wants everyone to treat each other the same and to open up their hearts and minds and grow to be a better soul. She wants to stop all the hate and killing someone just because they are different than they are. She wants the world to wake up and see that we are all one. Scarlett tries her best to see the good in every person that she comes in contact with. But it is almost impossible to find any good in someone who has an evil heart.

Scarlett meets a lot of new friends in her new life in and out of her new school. She meets some pretty amazing people at this new school that she has chosen to attend. She has their back while they have her back all at the same time. Scarlett does run into some pretty difficult situations and decisions that she has to make. In a way I don't see how she could make the choice that she did. But at the same time I do think she made the right choice for everyone involved considering what the outcome could have been if she had went down another road. Scarlett has some amazing friends, have I already said that? Oh well it is true either way and sure doesn't hurt to say it over and over. Scarlett had a couple of great admires who cared for her more than their own lives. They would do or give up whatever they had to so they could keep her safe and alive.

HOUSE OF RAVENS is so full of twists and turns that I was getting very dizzy every time I turned a page. I felt as if there were so many hidden messages that were being dropped all over the place that I didn't know which way to turn myself. I was spinning and spinning so fast that I thought I was going to go right off the edge and step right into insanity trying to figure out what everyone was up to and what they were hiding.

I kept thinking who is Jax? What is his secret? Is he for or against Scarlett? Is he trying to protect her? Does he know who she really is? Why did he leave and where did he go? I hated that he told her he loved her and then just walked away. What was he thinking? What was he feeling?

What about Kai? What is his story? Is he for real? Does he really care or love Scarlett? Is he a pawn for his father, the king? What about Wytt and Corrine? Are they truly her friends? Whose side will they all be on in the end?

You know I have always heard that when you read a book for the second time or more that you can see something new or in a different light than the first time you read it. This is very true I know because I have done it on more than one occasion. This duo writing team are amazing authors and are climbing right on up that author’s ladder right up there on the top right along with Stephen King. They have put so much more in this second edition which I never thought could happen but it has. I would have to say that I do like the second edition of House of Ravens a lot better than the first. All the little add-ins and changes help to make it a better book.

I highly recommend HOUSE OF RAVENS to anyone who loves reading about Nephilim's with a heroine that is learning who and what she is and what she can do. Scarlett is a very tough girl who has been through a lot and has had to grow up way before her time but she is strong and can handle herself and others well. Not only do I recommend HOUSE OF RAVENS and COURT OF NIGHTFALL the first book in The Nightfall Chronicles I would recommend you read any book that is written by this amazing duo; Karpov Kinrade..

I read this book because I was looking for an easy read and I was surprised that I did not skim the first book and also this one. I'm having a great time reading it and I like the characters. The heroine is doing good with her situation at her age, unlike other YA novels out there. The plot is simple but the endings always leaves me in awe. I like the simplicity and creative way the plot was done.

However, I would not continue reading this series because of what the authors have done to book four. They divide the book into updates whenever they want to update the story and I simply have no patience to wait for them. I like reading a whole book. I don't know if book four is the end or there is still more but I don't like waiting the updates in amazon, plus it leaks of profit. Also, I have skimmed book 3 and book 4 and not much happened. The story is too slow. It's like a TV series with different seasons. I liked book 2 (this one) though, thus the 4 stars.

WOW! What an amazing 2nd book of the series The Court Of Nightfall! House of Ravens is an amazing book!

Scarlett Night is Nephlilium ( she is the only one left of her kind. The Knights destroyed her kind in the war. And the only one that's knows both her identity is the one who created her) and her identity hidden from the nights of Templar the order her parents lost their lives for and kept from her, her whole life until their death when she finds out what they are and her best friend Jax new the secret and is also apart of it all. They all lied to her keeping this a secret..

She is thrust into a world she knows little about but is quickly learning. She gains new friends and new allies in both her worlds. She is Scarlett an initiate in the Knights Templar a student by day and the leader of dark Templar as nightfall by night. She is being pulled between two worlds fighting for the freedom of the people and taking down the corrupt while having the enemy train her and to learn more about there ways.. She feels lost love and pain. Things are out of control rebels doing things in her name and lieing to her friends never being able to be truthful with them. She loses one love to gain another. But will one be able to fully love her with the two lives she leads? Things aren't going according to her plans and she finds herself questioning what she is really doing... Then one event changes everything for her friends, the rebels, Knights, and the ones she loves. What happens when you have to pick between best friends and the love you have for another? Will she be able to take out the corruption? Will she succeed in her plans or fall to the mercy of the enemy?

This books has twists and turns at every corner. You think u have it figured out then bam something happens that blows Ur mind reveals things u wouldn't have thought of. I found myself happy, sad, angry, and crying all at the same time with all the pain the characters endure. This book leaves you on the edge at all times and I can't wait for the next book to come out. Another great job by this team..

I haven't read a book from these two amazing authors that I haven't fallen in love with. Their worlds they create make u want to be apart of the story. They make u want to fight along side them and feel every emotion . And in this story Scarlett night is definitely one I would stand beside and draw my sword... I want to run out and buy a sword and say I am scarlet night, Nightfall, leader of the dark Templar .. Lol fear me now an bow to my feet..

This series I recommend for all ages. And if you haven't read the first book it's The court of Nightfall. This is a series that you will want to read. And looking forward to what comes next...

House of Ravens picks up where Court of Nightfall leaves off. Scarlett Night is beginning her classes at Castle Vianney, making new friends and forging new relationships as she sets out to become a Templar Knight like her parents were. As Nightfall, however, she is looking to build reliable contacts, but falls flat when the rebel groups she once begged to join her become her enemies. What Scarlett never anticipated is that living a double life isn't as easy as she might have thought and that love comes at a price. When tragedy strikes close to her heart, she must deliver justice as Nightfall without exposing herself, but it might already be too late.

The story intensifies quickly and builds until the climax so that it's suspenseful and flows well from beginning to end.

I would recommend House of Ravens to anyone who is a fan of young adult, dystopian future novels or superhero novels where the hero is actually an anti-heroine.

As for my take? I fell in love all over again with Scarlett and her cause. I'm a huge fan of vigilante heroes (some of my favorites being Batman, The Crow, and Rorschach) and Nightfall is no exception. I love that Nightfall and Scarlett are becoming less different and more the same as the story progresses, her character finally finding out who it really is in both senses as she grows. It's not just Scarlett who learns and grows, but all the characters in the story manage to do this and I just can't help but admire that. The world, though it seems mostly limited to New York City, seems raw and gritty despite being super polished in that futuristic way we see in movies. I can't find just one thing to love about this series because it's so perfect in every way.

From the moment Scarlett became a Nephilim, she knew her life would never be the same again. Since the change, she's had a lot to contend with, including dealing with her feelings about Jax. Deep inside, she wishes things could have remained the same between them, but she knows that will never be the case.

To make matters worse, she now has a slew of responsibilities on her shoulders. She must become the strong leader of her new cause, as well as balance her life at the academy. As if that's not enough, she also has to deal with her nemesis, who now seems to have become a part of her life at school.

Though she's promised to do everything she can to take Varian down, Scarlett knows doing so will be difficult. Most especially when she's good friends with his children. Still, if she can set all wrongs to right, she'll take the chance in finally helping her own kind and the Zeniths survive. The question is, will she be able to hold up to everyone's ideals when the time comes?

Another great addition to the Nightfall Chronicles, House of Ravens doesn't disappoint. We get further glimpses into Scarlett's chaotic life as she does her best to juggle both of her identities. Things aren't easy, but she makes do. It's nice to see to that she's trying to be strong in the face of such adversity.

There are a couple of tearjerker moments in the story itself, but overall, we get to see who and what Scarlett truly is. I can't wait see to see what Karpov Kinrade have in store for her next. Will she and Jax finally get their happily ever after once things are said and done, I wonder? Only time will tell.

Scarlett resumes her journey living a double life of initiate to the Order of Knights and Nightfall, who is trying to clean up the corruption within the Order. Continuing her training with Zorin becomes more complicated because of the increased work load and life starts to take its toll. Toward the end of the semester in her training all of the initiates have to go through testing in whatever order of the knights they have been studying. During the final part of the test, Scarlett is forced to share her secret in order to stay alive. This leads to a new boyfriend and someone to lean on. After the tests for the initiates there is also a tournament in which all knights from around the kingdom can participate, it is during this tournament that Scarlett will have to choose the lesser of two evils and will learn the identity of Crixus. In the end, even though Scarlett is grieving, she still gets justice for her loss, but at what cost? What will she do when another person knows her secret identity?

An amazing follow up to the Court of Nightfall. I have recently fallen in love with Kinrade’s books and House of Ravens was no different. I loved the new characters that were introduced and the impact they had on Scarlett. She was able to grow as a character and learn some of the hard truths about life. I loved the pace of this book because I simply could not put it down and that was okay with me. From the beginning Karpov Kinrade was able to grab my attention and keep it. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, but they should read Court of Nightfall first to get the backstory.

*** I was given this ARC by the author, Karpov Kinrade, in exchange for an Honest Review ***

It is vital that you read book 1 of the series; "Court of Nightfall". This is a read in order series.
Scarlett kicks some major booty in this second installment of the Nightfall Chronicles.
Living a double life has it's challenges. Living as a human by day - Scarlett Night as a college student and then living as her true form, a Nephilim called Nightfall by night, training to be a Templar Knight. She finds herself in a sort of love triangle with Kai and Jax. Who will she choose? Does she choose? I love Jax, but Kai comes out ahead a little while later and has you rooting for him.
There are frenemies in places you wouldn't think they are.
This book had me all over the place with my emotions. There was heartache, anger, sadness, happiness, etc. I found myself wanting revenge for my own self.
Karpov Kinrade are very good at pulling you into the story and making you feel like you're really apart of the story. I can't wait for book 3 to come out. I'm ready to get this show on the road. I was grasping at the end of the book, aching for more! High 5 to Karpov Kinrade for writing an awesome series and keeping me enthralled!
Is it time for book 3 yet? ;) Lets get the 3rd book written people!

Karpov Kinrade does an excellent job yet again with House of Ravens.

This novel has been increased greatly with more content from the original version, and it was a step up! This new, revised version was incredible and leaves the reader desperate for more!

While book one left you on a bit of a hanger about what will happen next, House of Ravens fills the void and creates an epic fantasy for every reader to enjoy. Nightfall/Scarlett grows a lot in this book, and I felt like the character growth was exponential compared to the last novel, Court of Nightfall. This growth makes the book a lot more enjoyable, and with all the drama and action occurring makes it a great step up.

The novel moves at a decent, fast pace - it doesn't feel to slow, but it doesn't feel like you're skipping over any important details when you read it. The story also moves smoothly, and doesn't chop around like some novels tend to do. I personally didn't get bored with it, and I didn't feel the need to skip over some chapters (like some books present to the reader).

The twists, turns and surprises of the novel make this a worthy purchase/read. It's rare to find a long novel with a great plot, good character development and a smooth and steady story that keeps you interested. It was an honor to read this novel and I desperately want more!

Overall, this extravagant novel will take you out of this world, leave you breathless, desperate for more and wanting to throw a temper tantrum because the next book isn't out just yet!

Five out of five stars!

House of Ravens by Karpov Kinrade is the second installment in the phenomenal Nightfall Chronicles series. Let me just say, when this dynamic author duo puts out a book, I stop the moment I can get my hands on it. I know before I start reading that I am likely going to be blown away and feel all the feels. House of Ravens is no exception. I felt like I was on a roller coaster for the entire book.

I loved the first book and could not wait for the next Nightfall Chronicles book to get here. I may have even harassed the authors a bit by repeatedly asking when I could get House of Ravens. I couldn't help myself because book one was that good and really left me hanging for book two. House of Ravens did not disappoint. I was so into it from word one and I was on the edge of my seat, tightly gripping my Kindle, page after page.

If you like fantasy...action...paranormal elements...dystopia...just general bad-assery, you will love the Nightfall Chronicles. Karpov Kinrade has written something epic and I am sooo glad to be reading such an amazing series. I need more, right now!

I received an ARC copy but this is my honest review, not influenced in any way.

Book 2 of the Nightfall Chronicles starts off roughly where the first ended. School is about to start for Scarlett and almost immediately she has trouble between her two identities. Her new roommate, Corinne, is so nice but her father, the King, is out for Nightfall's head. Literally, her head! And he's not just a dumb politician. He is conniving and probably not above using his children to get to her. He ends up teaching at the school too, so she is constantly trying to balance learning from him and avoiding notice from him. Corinne and her brothers turn into good friends; Scarlett even starts dating Kai, who ends up knowing all her secrets.

Scarlett struggles in this book - mentally, emotionally and physically. While she doesn't seem to make much progress with her goal to unite the people in her world, we do see her character develop through her struggles.

I like this series. I want to see what happens next, especially since we don't get a lot of Jax or Zorin in this book and their stories are interesting.

Well Karpov Kinrade has out done themselves with the new revised editions of the Nightfall Chronicles! I just finished House of Ravens, and having read the previous versions can only say I am just that much more excited for the next books in this series!
House of Ravens combines the right amount of intrigue, betrayal, action, and romance to keep you on the edge of your seat till the end and leave you begging for more when your finished! As you follow the heroine Scarlett Night through her victory's and losses, triumphs and failures in her double lives, attempting a revolution while trying to unite the world in peace! Can she truly succeed this coup without open war, is a question even Nightfall cannot answer while there are still unknown players involved, in this dangerous game of strategy and life and death! I for one cannot wait to find out and neither will you if you start this series and live with these characters even for a moment!

Ohhhh karpov kinrade...how I love you guys...you seriously got me with this one! I don't often get emotional reading stories but this one tore my heart out of my chest, ripped it up, and then stomped on it!

Amazing continuance of the storyline from the first book. I loved the new characters that were introduced. I also really enjoyed Scarlett's character being developed more. The plot, the entangling backgrounds of some of the characters, Scarlett fighting to define who she is, the details- all are huge successes in my book. Another perfectly presented story for me as a reader by a very talented dynamic duo! Loved it!

Wow! This sequel in the nightfall chronicles exceeded my expectations. It is well written with great story as well as character development.
The heroine goes through many trials in this book but stays strong to her cause. The Ending in this book reveals many devastating secrets but will definitely make the next book more explosive.

I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I thoroughly enjoyed this booK. Better than the first one.

An interesting read. I'd love for some things, e.g. mythology, to have a better foundation and a more detailed explanation, but, what can you do. Mainly, I like that their books don't lack action and have interesting twists, although there are a couple of things I would like to see a bit more perfected.

I did buy the next book after this one. Because of the interesting concept of being born a vampire and not knowing it. I rated it 1 start for just getting freaking boring where I didn't care about the players anymore. I don't feel the need to finish the saga and that has never, ever, ever happened to me before. This Hunter dude is the worst male lead ever written. I kept wanting him to die so that someone better would be written in. Don't do it. It's just so flat.

Picking up where the Court Of Nightfall left off House of Ravens begin with some changes to Scarlett's routine! Early morning training sessions,a new rather mysterious roommate and some rather intense classes sure do put a crimp in her superhero game! But in typical Scarlett fashion she is just rolling with it and trying to keep ahead of injustice and the authorities who would love to put her down for her nightly activities and rebellious nature.

The stakes get even higher when we learn who exactly is Scarlett's roommate and who She is related to! In addition to everything going on in the castle we learn  King Varian is on his way to the city to wage war against Nightfall and her cohorts. We get a lot of pretty intense scenes following their first confrontation and even more during the course of the book.

Scarlett also makes some headway in bringing about people to her cause for fair treatment and we begin to see her excel in her training at the Castle. Some areas she has to rely on others experience but it just shows her potential as a leader. Being a strong leader that people can look up to is not knowing everything, it's knowing when something is  not your strongest area and finding someone who is talented in that area and utilizing their experience for the betterment of your cause. Scarlett and Nightfall both experience this in different ways during the course of the story.

Scarlett also has some nice moments with Jax and we really see their relationship change now that he is able to reveal some of the secrets and what was really happening during her childhood. It grows and gets stronger and there are hints that it could be something more at some point.  then Prince Kai comes into the picture that there is no doubt that they work well together and we see that another strong male character can interact with Scarlett and that she can rely on more than one person.

I really enjoy this series as it is pure intense escapism. The situations are always new and fresh in this world and we get lots of exciting situations that keep us locked in to the story and wanting to see what happens to our favorite characters next.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

The Nightfall Chronicles keeps on getting better and better. House of Ravens is an amazing book that dives deeper into the story, outer/inner conflicts, and character development. I already liked Scarlett in Court of Nightfall but her evolution in HOR made me somehow like her even more. Scarlett is a true heroine because she always strives to do the best thing when it comes to the well-being of others, and even if the outcome of her plans don't work out she always learns from her mistakes and grows from them. In HOR we see Scarlett become stronger both mentally and physically as she progresses through each challenge that she is faced with. We also see her trying to find a balance between her two identities while feeling remorse for having to lie about it to the people whom she holds close. Scarlett also finds herself faced with new enemies and enemies in people that she thought she could trust. The first book had a lot of twists and surprises, those elements are still very present in HOR. It takes a lot to shock me as a reader because I can usually see things coming, but Karpov Kinrade keeps astounding me at every turn. I also loved the development of the world that we were introduced to in Court of Nightfall. In HOR the world in which Scarlett lives becomes bigger as we learn about different places and customs through the newly introduced royal family. I recommend this book and if you’ve already read Court of Nightfall then I urge you to read this one because, as aforementioned, it keeps getting better and better.

House of Ravens picks up with Scarlett starting classes at Castle V as an initiate where she makes new friends and enemies. She is still learning how to navigate through this new life that her parents had kept a secret from her as she tries to build a new world where everyone can be equally accepted. She is faced with decisions that can change everything as she tries to destroy the orders in order to make her goal possible. And in the midst of all these problems…is there anyone she can trust?

*mild spoiler alert*
This is the second book in the Nightfall Chronicles and we pick up where Court of Nightfall left off
Scarlett has a new room-mate Corinne and she gets her class schedule. They go sightseeing and see all the genetically modified animals in a zoo that were the origins of the gen mod and the lengths gone through to explain the secret infection of nephilim blood in the upper classes that they dont want the lower classes to know about which is a big thing in the Nightfall worlds. The knights all go through gen mod which is what they call it to explain these powers.
The friends go to a play -Nox Aeterna- based on the history of the nephilim war and they exit coming out see a higher ranking knight abusing his power on zenith with no one but Scarlett standing up to him because of the fact the theatre were not letting the zenith in purely because they were a zenith even though they had already paid for a ticket. Scarlett works out that the knight has zenith powers when he sparks fire from his hand and debates with him about how he shouldn't abuse his own kind. He becomes a big character that you will love to hate.
Corinne ends the altercation by revealing she is the Princess of Sapienta, her father Varien rewarded with a kingship by besting the nephilim Nyx who was a leader in the nephilim war whom the play depicts as having been slain by him but all is not what it seems.
Varien is coming to visit the city, not just for the anniversary of the play, but to seek out Nightfall and end her.
Scarlett then meets Corinnes' brothers the princes of Sapienta and so begins the love hate relationship with one of them that ends in something more.
Scarletts' Dark Templars attempt to join with other rebel groups but their differences keep them divided and at odds with one another.
They complete their first Knight trials bringing the group of friends even closer together till the end of the book where they are closer still.
I loved this extended second version of the book and look forward to more heart wrenching writing from Karpov Kinrade.

House of Ravens, second book in The Nightfall Chronicles, is as good if not even better than the first book.

Scarlett keeps learning, as any young trying her best is not enough to obsconce error and sadly, errors are costly, the high price being the person who understands her completely and loves her deeply, sincerely and unconditionnally.

The book is a fantasy, but if one looks under the marvelous and unique abilities superheroes or "zenith" have, they have the same great qualities and big faults of mere humans-they love, hate, plot and cheat and in the end nothing is what you expect when starting the book, lines are blurred, the so called "good" characters are, well, not so good and the "villains" are sensitive and kind. It is tough to review the book without giving away the story, and that would be bad, because the book is a real treat, worth reading and the single thing I thought ending it was "I want more and I can't wait for the next book"...

I guess House of Raven is mainly about love-young love that catches Scarlett in a trainagle between the loving, but secretive and somehow rigid Jax and the tormented, but ideal and very very human Kai (who doesn't dream about the man who gives his love unconditionnally, who understands everything without any explanation needed), love from friendship with the futre queen and her tween from the Ravens, love of the inquisitor for his lover's kids (and unknown son) and in the end but not in last, Zorin's secret love for Scarlett.

I wholeheartedly recommed this book and already look forward to reading the next book to see how the story unfolds. Even though I like Jax, I hope he is not the "one" for Scarlett.

So I read House of Ravens, the second book in the Nightfall Chronicles. I enjoyed it very much. I would even say I loved it. Several new characters were introduced, both good guys and bad guys (as well as another love interest). It was nice to see that Scarlett actually developed some friends outside of her Nightfall persona. She really needed some. Unfortunately, she has to keep her other life a secret - to most of them. Scarlett also begins classes and Initiate training. This stretches her schedule even thinner. She gains some possible new allies as Nightfall even though some of their motives are questionable. Random food for thought: Scarlett and Zorin aren't the only Nephilim.

The speed and flow were nice, like the first book. There was always something happening. Sometimes it does feel like Scarlett needs to calm down and take a breath before something else happens and she goes in running. War doesn't give breaks though. Totally understandable. I enjoyed the character development. It gave some more depth to characters. I went into this book expecting a twist like the first book had, and I wasn't disappointed. While I was guessing one of them, the others definitely surprised me. At one point I even protested out loud for what happened. I'm pretty sure most people will do that, if not cry. You will get emotional. I love the twists and how at the end of the books, there are little snippets added in third person to give clues about other characters and what could happen. It definitely leaves you in suspense and itching to read the next one and find out what happens. I certainly am.

OMG!!!! CAN YOU SAY FREAKING INTENSE!!

This installment picks up where Court of Nightfall ends and runs with it. Scarlet is still figuring out how to balance, and not very well at times. The men in her life! WOW Jax and Scarlett kiss, Scarlett realizes she may be in love. Kai and she are friends and become somewhat more. Zorin! Well if we believe what we are being presented with , he has fallen or is in the process of falling for Scarlet/Nightfall.

The trails on the island, loved the entire setting, storyline. Scarlett finds true happiness and love again when Kai does not think she is a monster and that he loves her unconditionally. Then to loose Kai and almost Corrine, & Jax during the tournament. I know I'm skipping here, I just don't want to spoil the book for others that have not read it yet.

The allies that present themselves in this book are like wow, didn't expect that.

Just so you know, I started this book yesterday afternoon and yes I have finished it! I could not put it down. I do not mean to compare the writers with Diana Gabaldon or Sarah Maas, however they are in this VIP lineup of writers! Karpov Kinrade team keep it up! Your amazing, powerful, captivating writers. I'm so excited to read the next installments!
