Catch the Flame

Rate this book
I came to Fire Lake to outrun my past.

A broken-down car, an empty wallet and one loyal dog — that’s all I had when I stumbled into this small town I didn’t plan to stay in.

Then I met Gus Lawson.

Ex–Navy SEAL. Carpenter. Six-foot-five of trouble wrapped in muscle and quiet control. He’s the kind of man who can fix anything — except whatever’s broken inside him.

I tell myself I don’t care. But every time his gaze finds mine, my resolve cracks a little more.

His touch scorches. His kiss tastes like danger. And when he says my name, I forget every reason I ever had to run.

He’s not the kind of man you fall for — he’s the kind you burn for.

And I’m already going up in flames.

Thank you to the publisher Joffe Books for providing this book for review purposes via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Where to start? This was a very heartwarming small town cosy romance that gave me all the feels and I loved every moment of it. Faith came in Fire Lake with a lorry load of baggage on her slender soldiers, I don’t think she intended to stay in Fire Like but I think it was the perfect place for her to heal and recuperate. Gus was the perfect book boyfriend, both handsome and brooding and the sparks were definitely flying between him and faith. I read this book from cover to cover in one sitting as this is how invested I was.

Sooner or later the last comes back to haunt us and you can’t run from it, as both Gus and Faith found out. The spice in this book was over done and added to the story rather than distracting from it. I grew to love the community in Fire Lake and how supportive all the town folks were to each other. This was the perfect book to curl up under my blanket with on a bitterly cold winters day. Highly recommended.

⋆˚꩜。 3 stars ⋆˚꩜。

Picked this up for the "burn for him" promise, ended up emotionally starved like Faith hiking with an empty wallet. The Boone family secrets and Gus uncovering his past added intriguing layers to Fire Lake's quaint chaos, making it oddly compelling enough to finish. But the romance? Exasperated sigh 😮‍💨 grumpy-sunshine fizzled into forced proximity filler, with backstories told not shown, leaving me brutally disconnected from their "unbreakable" bond.

3 stars for the mystery hooks and doggo heart; my hopeful heart is still wandering lost.

Much thanks to Joffe Books and Netgalley for the ARC!

I picked this one up purely because of the adorable cover and title, and honestly, that part did not disappoint. It definitely caught my attention right away.

Gus and Faith were sweet together, and I could see the potential in their dynamic. However, the overall plot and execution just didn’t fully land for me. The pacing felt uneven at times, and I found myself wanting more depth in both the storyline and the character development.

The third-person narration occasionally felt a bit distant, which made it harder to fully connect with the characters. The writing style also leaned a little dated for my personal taste, which pulled me out of the story more than once.

While it had a cute premise and lovable leads, this one ultimately didn’t quite deliver the emotional impact I was hoping for.

This is a perfect start to a new town, a new family saga, and a new series! Gus and Faith have so many secrets, and even they don’t know all the answers. As they get to know each other, they reveal flashes of themselves, but not the truths they are hiding. That doesn’t stop them for acting on their chemistry, of developing feelings that were not part of the equation. Of course, all that was hidden comes to light, and things don’t go quite as planned all around. Them though, their love for each other, the ties that bind them together, those are strengthened and made unbreakable <3

Thank you so much to netgalley for my arc of this book.
This was such a cute small town romance. The plot kind of reminded me a bit of schitts creek how they had to rebuild their lives after it being tipped upside down. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.

This was such an interesting read! I adore Faith she’s so sweet and I love her development because at first she has nothing apart from her dog called Taco and then seeing how far she’s come is so inspiring I love how Faith starting creating friendships with others at Fire Lake everyone welcomed her with open arms and Gus he is something else he’s very grumpy and may I add he’s an ex-navy seal! You can see from the start these two have a connection but because of their pasts they aren’t sure on what to do plus Gus was planning to go back to DC after he finished his work at Fire Lake and I love reading more because these guys both had secrets and I was so shocked then it started to make sense I loved when Faith and Gus were together they are cute and a little spicy

Quotes I loved:
“Everyone had secrets, and she was going to hold on to hers as long as she could.”

"I had to travel the world to find out that the only place I want to be is here. With you."

"I love you, Faith. And that's something I don't say lightly. In fact, I've never said it before. I've never been in love before. Never wanted a woman so bad she's the only thing I see when I close my eyes. The only voice I remember when it's quiet and that alone feels so big I can't stand it.”

"I have loved you since before you left. I loved you enough to let you go because I thought it was what you wanted and I wanted to make a life with you.”

Tropes:
🧡 Grumpy x sunshine
🔥 Small town
🧡 Ex-navy seal
🔥 Secret identity
🧡 Cute dog named Taco

Highlights from the book:
•Fire Lake Series
•Small town setting
•Spicy content

ℝ𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Catch the Flame is the first book of the Fire Lake series. This is a small town romance, that delivers plenty of spice when a grumpy guy meets a girl running from her “real life”.

I absolutely love a story with dysfunctional families and characters - so this book was really ticking the boxes already - add in a dog and I am sold.

I really enjoyed meeting the other characters as much as the main characters (Faith and Gus) - and my goodness aren’t there some brilliant ones in this little town! I hope so get to know more about them as the series progresses.

This was my first book by Juliana Stone and I enjoyed her writing style so will be looking out for others!

I want to begin by thanking Joffe Books and NetGalley for this ARC.

When I began this book, I didn’t think I would enjoy this story so much, but this heartwarming small-town romance was everything I needed. Fire Lake is the perfect cosy, nice, and friendly place where we would all love to live. I loved all the people we meet, and it couldn’t be more perfect.

If Fire Lake is the perfect place for Gus and Faith to heal and find peace, I loved their personalities and their chemistry even more. Even though there are many spicy moments, their relationship is about much more than that. I really felt the spark and the energy between them. It was so comforting, vulnerable, and sweet. They both need time to open up, but it is so worth it.

I really loved the story of Faith and Gus. Faith with her own difficulties in her relationship with her family, and Gus with his own dysfunctional family issues. It was atypical and gave us a beautiful lesson: family is also about choices, love, and fighting for each other. The past is a part of us that we can’t hide; sooner or later, we have to face it in order to move on and grow. And Faith and Gus do it in the most beautiful way.

Gus and Faith find each other at the moment they need it the most. Even though everything begins with secrets, time eventually gives them all the answers they need. And I couldn’t be happier for both of them.

It was my first book by this author, and it will not be the last!

I enjoyed this book for the most part, however it left me aching for more.

This storyline had a lot of potential and if the book dug deeper into the the layers of the main characters, I feel like it would have been more of an impactful read.

At times I loved the writing and others times I felt like i got whiplash because of the inconsistency of the writing and felt like it just wasn’t flowing well. I felt like some parts of it just didn’t make sense.

There were multiple layers to this book and as much as it was well thought of, it wasn’t expanded on well enough for it to really grab you.

I think the author wanted an air of mystery and it just didn’t work well in this book because it prevented the reader from connecting deeper to these characters because a lot of their personal struggles, emotions and thoughts were tied up to those “mysteries”, so you’re left with not knowing that much more than surface level stuff with them.

I would read more from this series and this author. I think this book ended in a way that kept you curious about what comes next.

Thank you NetGalley, Joffe Books and Juliana Stone for the ARC!

Characters with a tortured past and dysfunctional families are common in the books I love to read. Add in a small town romance and I just had to read it.

At the start of the book, we're thrown into the deep end with no idea what's happening and who's who. It felt as though a couple of chapters were just missing. This confused me, but I decided to push through anyway. Things quickly became clearer, and it was the family drama and secrets that kept me hooked. In terms of romance, though, this just wasn't it. Their relationship was depthless, and he only liked her because she was different from the other women he'd been with before. Also, there were lots of misogynistic remarks woven throughout the entire book (e.g. "Faith wasn't a placeholder. Wasn't that woman a man screwed and then forgot about.") that made me want to stop reading.

A very easy going, romantic read. It was a cosy read with the characters both battling their own traumas. I felt the book just skimmed the characters and I wanted more from them.

I wanted a deeper connection between them it felt very slow burn and then rushed. They went from fighting their attraction to getting together - it was quite inconsistent. I just wanted more from both characters storyline. There was so much to unpack for me but the emotional element was there for either characters.

Despite that, I did enjoy the book. The characters were both strong and struggling fighting through the obstacles that life was throwing them. Each having their own issues yet being there for each other when and if needed.

It was an OK read for me. Could be a lot more emotional and deep if we had more from the characters. Thank you to Zoe for having me on tour with you.

I loved this book, Gus and Faith, and the townspeople of Fire Lake. I was so glad these two people keeping secrets found each other and after a steamy fling, they fell in love. I enjoyed reading about their dates and their dance and viewing this town that becomes their home through their eyes. The little bit of mystery and suspense in the book made it more interesting and made Gus and Faith more complex characters which I appreciated. Thank you to author Juliana Stone and Choc Lit for the early copy! It truly was my pleasure to read and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

I loved the small town vibes and how we get to slowly discover both characters' stories and the mystery around it. However, I feel like this book is too focused on both characters individually, since there was so much to unpack in their lives, and not enough on them as a couple. I feel like we didnt get to see that connection building, therefore the romance kinda fell flat for me. Although I absolutely loved Taco. He was the star for me!

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion 🫶🏽

I liked this book way more than I thought I would.

The story hooked me from the beginning and there was just enough mystery to keep you thinking.

I really liked the juxtaposition of the MC’s complete honesty in some areas and their need to hide from everyone, including each other.

Ultimately, it was a fresh idea that was executed well with the right amount of spice.

Well… I honestly don’t know what to say about this book. Catch the Flame had all the right ingredients for a good small-town romance: ex–Navy SEAL, woman running from her past, emotional healing and (of course!!!) a loyal dog. But somehow, it still felt a bit flat and undeveloped.

Both Gus and Faith had strong backstories that could’ve added a lot of depth, but they stayed more in the background. I never really felt that spark or deep connection between them... it just didn’t click. I didn't got the vibe that the romance is blooming or burning; it just kinda existed.

Now, let’s talk about the true star of the book: Taco (drums drums): 10/10 for Taco for saving a good portion of my reading experience. (Also, Gus’s and Faith’s mothers? Both should compete in "Mother of the year".)

All in all, it wasn’t bad, but it could’ve been so much more.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ (2 for the story, +1 for Taco)

Everything feels like it’s on the verge of falling apart from the very first page, and somehow that chaos is exactly what pulled me in. Catch the Flame by Juliana Stone opens with that brittle, unsteady feeling of a life already cracked down the middle, and it never pretends things will be easy from there. Published by Joffe Books, with thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the gifted ARC, this story quietly got under my skin and stayed there.

This isn’t a romance that rushes to dazzle. It takes its time, settling into the slow burn of two people who are very good at running and very bad at standing still. Reading it felt like slipping into a small town that looks cozy on the surface but hums with unresolved tension underneath. Faith arrives carrying more than she can manage, and Gus is already weighed down by his own unfinished history. Watching them orbit each other was less about fireworks and more about friction, the kind that builds heat whether you want it to or not.

The emotional experience of this book is what really stood out to me. It felt gentle and heavy at the same time. There’s warmth in the found-family moments, in the way Fire Lake offers shelter without demanding explanations, but there’s also a constant ache beneath it all. The romance doesn’t try to magically heal either character. Instead, it lets them stumble, make questionable choices, and sit in their discomfort. That made everything feel more honest. I wasn’t swept away so much as slowly drawn in, page by page, until I realized I cared deeply about how this would all land.

Gus is the kind of hero who fixes things because it’s safer than dealing with feelings, and that worked on me immediately. Faith, meanwhile, is fragile in a quiet, realistic way, someone piecing herself back together without making a spectacle of it. Their chemistry isn’t explosive, but it’s constant. It simmers in glances, in shared silences, in moments where care slips through before either of them can stop it. One quote that really lingered with me was, “It’s easy when the lines are black and white. It’s the gray areas that mess everything up.” That line captures the heart of this book perfectly. Nothing here is clean or simple, especially love.

By the time I reached the end, this comfortably settled into a solid four-star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️read for me, the kind of book I genuinely enjoyed living inside, even if I wished a few emotional threads had been given more space to stretch out. I closed it feeling satisfied, a little tender, and oddly nostalgic for a place that doesn’t exist.

I’d recommend this to readers who love small-town romance with emotional depth. If you’re drawn to wounded heroes, slow-burn chemistry, found family vibes, loyal dogs, and stories where healing matters just as much as heat, this one will likely hit the spot.

So when a story asks you to slow down, feel deeply, and sit in the messy gray spaces… do you lean into the warmth, or keep your distance from the flame?

From the very first pages, I felt myself sinking into Fire Lake. A small town that wraps around you like a warm blanket, where people notice when you’re hurting and quietly show up anyway. Juliana Stone doesn’t just describe a setting; she builds a place that feels lived in, familiar, and safe… even when the characters themselves don’t feel safe in their own hearts.

This story hit me right in the chest. It’s tender, aching, hopeful, and emotionally raw without ever feeling heavy-handed. I cried real, unstoppable tears - the kind where you don’t even want to stop because the story deserves them. The emotional pull is relentless in the most beautiful way.

The characters are what truly make this book shine. Gus has one of those quiet, steady presences that radiates strength and restraint, and every scene he’s in carries an intensity that made my heart ache for him. His energy, his silence, his gentleness beneath the control - all of it is written with such care and depth that I felt like I knew him. Faith's journey is just as powerful; her vulnerability, resilience, and guarded hope felt achingly real. I didn’t just root for her, I felt her.

What I loved most is how naturally their connection unfolds. The chemistry simmers. The emotions build. Nothing feels rushed or forced, yet every interaction is charged. The writing allows space for longing, healing, and quiet moments that speak louder than grand gestures. It’s the kind of romance that settles deep and stays with you.

And the town itself? Absolutely charming. Fire Lake has that cozy, Hallmark-style magic where everyone knows everyone, cares deeply, and quietly watches out for one another. I felt like I was walking those streets, sitting in those rooms, breathing that air. Even the side characters add warmth and texture — and Taco? Perfection. Truly the best boy.

When I realised this is the first book in a new series, I was thrilled. I already know I want to return to Fire Lake, to spend more time with these people, and to watch this town continue to grow and heal.

Catch the Flame is emotional, beautifully written, and deeply comforting despite the tears it draws. It’s about broken pieces, quiet strength, and the hope of finding happiness where you least expect it. I will be shouting about this book everywhere, and I cannot wait to see what comes next for Fire Lake and its residents.

Two people come to Fire Lake, one to out run her past, the other to piece it together. When their paths collide there is no stopping the flames. Both not planning to stay, but both finding something they may not be able to leave.

“I’ve never been in love before. Never wanted a woman so bad she’s the only thing I see when I close my eyes. The only voice I remember when it’s quiet and that alone feels so big I can’t stand it”

This was such an easy and fun read - the small (welcoming) town, the buried pasts that both MC's are hiding, and of course, Taco. There is a small mystery portrayed that really works well and keeps the story going with a little extra alongside the romance. I loved the way the author depicted the FMC and MMC’s past experiences which definitely added some depth to the characters. I do feel as though the characters were held at an arms length (perhaps due to them hiding secrets) and would have liked maybe a bit more in the present detailing their personalities. That is a bit vague, but I just felt something is missing.

I noticed some editing inconsistencies that had me pause but nothing major. Overall it was a great read and I am completely in for the remaining series… because, without saying too much, IYKYK. DRAMMMMA!

❤️‍🔥 Swoon Factor: 2

💔 Content warnings: mentions of death, terminal illness

💬 This book was definitely a surprise- there was a lot more to the story than I had expected.

The story pulled me in fairly quickly, And I enjoyed the small town setting of fire lake, the mystery that's surrounded both Faith's and Gus's reasons for being there, and even though the twists and turns were fairly obvious, I still felt the emotional payoff was pretty good when everything was revealed.

As for the romance/chemistry between Faith and Gus, I liked that it didn't totally do the stereotypical grumpy MMC thing. Meaning he didn't immediately jump into the. "But why can't I stop thinking about this person?" Thing. It was a little bit more of a slower build and I appreciated that. I think books often start it too quickly.

And overall, the romance just felt more mature? They did a pretty good job of communicating (aside from their secret identities /pasts of course 🤣)

I would have liked to see a little bit more about Faith's backstory, although I do understand why there wasn't as much. Honestly, I think she could use some more fleshing out as a character overall- I definitely felt like I knew Gus better.

I wish there had been more resolution in the ending as well but again it makes sense, And since this is the first in a series, I wonder if that resolution will be forthcoming in the later books.

There were also some phrases that were overused especially "on the back end of" when talking about someone being older, and some things it got bogged down by being overly descriptive. Idk how many times I read about Faith's makeup routine

Either way, I think the story has a lot of potential and I would definitely be interested in reading the next books in the series even though I gave it a 3.5 ⭐ rating

A delicious mix of small-town vibes, hidden identities, buried pasts, and a scorching, aching slow-burn romance.

Gus is broody, grumpy and dangerously sexy ex Navy SEAL coming back to confront a past he barely remembers.

Faith is beautiful and haunted, a shell of her former self, fleeing a past that shattered everything she knew.

They find each other in Fire Lake, where both confront pasts that will either release them-- or ruin them.

I fell for both Gus and Faith. The plot kept me raptly interested as I devoured this book in two days. The slow revelations about their pasts, the aching longing and attraction, is all written in lovely detail.

I spent much of the book in edgy anticipation, balanced on the edge of a too-high cliff, unsure whether I’d be saved or sent tumbling. Would the truth ever be revealed? Would Faith and Gus finally give in to their attraction? Would they trust each other enough to confess their truths? And most importantly—was there a HEA waiting for them? Because damn, I needed them to have one.

I really loved this book overall. What didn't work for me was the repeated mentions of Gus's long history with many beautiful women, his active (and often emotionless) sex life, and his refusal to get into relationships. It pulled me out of the romance like a cold shower, breaking the emotional and romantic vibe. Gus has so many great qualities and compelling layers, but it felt as though his “player” past couldn’t simply fade into the background where it belonged

That said, the story and the romance always managed to draw me back in. And the ending and evolution of the characters made everything worth it. I look forward to the next book set in Fire Lake.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book. As always, my opinions are my own and completely honest.

I’m still a little conflicted about this book, mostly because the ending didn’t fully satisfy me. It felt like it was checking off boxes rather than earning them. That said, this is undeniably a heartwarming, cosy small-town romance, and I did enjoy my time with it (or some of it, at least).

My main issue is structure. Both Gus and Faith had stories that deserved more space to breathe. Their backstories, their motivations, the reasons behind their choices... all of that felt underdeveloped. Digging deeper into those layers would have made their personalities feel more grounded and the emotional moments, I think, more impactful... so, even if I enjoyed this book for the most part, it left me aching for more. The storyline had a lot of potential, and I genuinely believe that if the narrative had gone deeper into the main characters, this could have been a much stronger read.

The writing itself was hit or miss for me. There were moments where I really loved it, and others where the flow felt off, almost jarring. Some transitions felt rushed, and a few scenes felt confusing or underexplained. I often felt like I was being told things instead of being shown, especially when it came to the supposedly strong connection between Gus and Faith. There was so much to unpack in their individual lives, and not nearly enough time spent developing them as a couple...

Still, the found family element works beautifully, and even though the ending felt rushed, it does manage to tie things together in a satisfying enough way. I would absolutely read more from this series and from this author. This book ends in a way that keeps you curious about what comes next, and that curiosity counts for something.

What you'll find:
🧣 a cosy small-town romance
🦋 found family
🖤 mystery woven into romance

Catch the Flame is a romance about Faith and Gus, one running from their past, and another running toward it. They find themselves in Fire Lake dealing with their own personal issues, and both with a lot of family drama driving them.

Faith has come to Fire Lake to get away from her life and start over. She has her dog Taco and she is apprehensive but determined to make it on her own. Her personality is guarded, but she tries to stay in good spirits. Gus is a grump, he came to town possibly to confront his past, but he isn't really sure yet. He is a loner and although hot according to most of the town, not interested in anyone or anything really.

They are forced together by the town, Faith needs a ride and they are living in the same location, and from there they find themselves drawn to each other more regularly. Both unwilling to give up anything about themselves or why they are in Fire Lake.

This was a cute romance, slow to get going with lots of secrets, the tension between the MCs was well done. At about the half way point we start to see the forced-proximity take effect and from there Gus and Faith are fireworks for each other.

The story is told in alternating POVs and there are a bunch of interesting side characters (making this a great location for lots of romance opportunities for the author?). The pacing is steady, it did take a few chapters for me to feel 'in it.' The chemistry between the characters was good and I always appreciate a broody man. I am not sure I would go as far as to calling Faith "sunshine" to his grump, but together they are adorable.

While the family drama was a main piece of both characters, I feel like the ending was a bit rushed. Especially for Faith. Her resolution seemed too quickly concluded, while Gus' seemed to take more priority.

Overall, the story was a good one. I liked that there was mystery between them and they were still able to find each other and fall for each other. Super cute romance with a bit of spice. If you like a small-town romance with a bit of mystery/ false identity and a dog that really steals the show, this one might be for you.

This book has all the ingredients for a great small-town romance.

From the moment we arrive in Fire Lake, this story pulls you in with heart, heat, and healing. It’s packed with spice (of course), warmth, love, laughter, and tears, (oh, and a cute doggo!) and it delivers on every level.

Both main characters are hiding — running from their pasts and carrying wounds they don’t quite know how to face. Watching them slowly stop running and start growing is incredibly satisfying. Fire Lake isn’t just a setting; it becomes a true refuge and ultimately home. Be prepared for a patient, emotional slow burn. The pacing takes its time, letting the connection build naturally and keeping you deliciously uncertain until the very end.

And Gus Lawson? Absolute perfection. He’s everything you want in a small-town MMC; strong, steady, and quietly broken. The kind of man who fixes things with his hands because it’s easier than fixing what’s happening inside his heart. Protective without being overbearing, emotionally reserved yet deeply loyal… Gus is impossible not to fall for.

The chemistry absolutely sizzles. Every look, every touch, every moment between them crackles with tension and longing. The romance burns slow and hot, making the payoff feel earned and unforgettable.

This is a story about starting over, finding belonging, and choosing love even when it’s terrifying. If you love small-town romances with depth, emotional growth, and scorching chemistry.... this one belongs on your shelf.

Highly recommend for fans of heartfelt, steamy romances with soul.

Thankyou to the author, Joffe Books and NetGalley for an early copy. All opinions are my own.

I am not sure what to say about this book yet because the ending didn't satisfy me as it felt like it was just ticking off some of the expected HEA. But it's personal and I think it was still a good book!

I wish some parts about the family ties would have been addressed with more depth. We get the tension, the trauma from them but maybe it could have been explored a bit more and it would have given more of an impact to the story.

Still, there was depth and a lovely setting that makes you wish you could go to this town and enjoy it.

📚 Our FMC also has a lot of secrets. She was on her way accross the country when her car broke down just outside of Fire Lake. So she hiked with her dog, her backpack and a broken suitcase to find a dinner and a place to stay until the car is fixed.
Gus, an ex-navy seal, and the sexy grumpy out-of-towner is in Fire Lake to renovate the cottages of an estate. There's a lot of mystery from his past and why he's here. He's clearly telling a practiced story in order not to reveal too much.
He gives her a ride to where she'll stay... and they end up being neighboors.
He's broody but she's fallen sick and he relunctantly takes care of her.
Both have secrets they are not willing to share. And both are attracted to each other like magnets. They know it's temporary and they dive into each other for the summer...

📙 Tropes: ex-navy seal, cute dog, building your life back, family secrets, forced proximity, no strings attached relationship.
🌶 Open door spice.

Blurb:

My Thoughts:
The story follows Faith and Gus, who both find themselves in the small town trying to keep their past secret and who they actually are out of people's knowledge. Gus and Faith are both running from or towards dealing with family trauma. They find each other in a short term rental house in a small town. Drawn to each other. The chemistry simmers. The emotions build. Nothing feels rushed or forced, yet every interaction is charged. The writing allows space for longing, healing, and quiet moments that speak louder than grand gestures. It’s the kind of romance that settles deep and stays with you.

This book was an enjoyable read, while I would label it a quick read it was still written well. We got that coziness that a small fictional town brings to a reader, fun side characters, question marks for the future and a cute doggo named Taco!

The plot-line does tug on those heart strings and I particularly enjoyed that the ending wasn’t left all tied up in a bow, it left me yearning for that family closeness which I’m sure we will get as the series continues! I’m under the impression the series will connect everyone back to Fire Lake, so I would likely pick up the next book!

Our main character Gus is running to find answers while Faith is running to hide from questions. Both have a lot on their plate but found comfort in each other. I highlighted a lot of this book, especially moments between them because Juliana really got me with some of those quotes! Wow.

I did find the start a bit of a struggle, but once I hit around page 80, I seemed to pick up the pace reading wise.

please tell me Walker & Sunday are getting a book…TOGETHER👀 ngl, at first I thought maybe Iris but by the end I was like ohhhh👀👀🫦

Catch the Flame is the kind of romance that sneaks up on you quietly… and then absolutely wrecks you in the best way.

Fire Lake feels like a town built for second chances, and our heroine arrives carrying nothing but scars, stubborn determination, and one fiercely loyal dog. She’s not looking to stay. She’s looking to survive. What she doesn’t plan on is Gus — an ex–Navy SEAL turned carpenter whose silence speaks louder than words and whose steady presence feels like safety she doesn’t believe she deserves.

Gus is pure slow-burn perfection. He doesn’t rush, doesn’t push, doesn’t demand. He shows up. With calloused hands, patient restraint, and a gaze that sees too much. His past weighs heavy, but instead of posturing, he lets his actions do the talking — fixing broken things, offering quiet protection, and loving in a way that feels earned.

The chemistry between them simmers rather than explodes, making every glance and brush of skin hit harder. When it finally ignites, it’s not flashy — it’s intimate, emotional, and deeply satisfying. This is a story about choosing to stay, choosing to trust, and choosing love even when it’s terrifying.

Tender, gritty, and emotionally grounded, Catch the Flame proves that sometimes the hottest fires are the ones built slowly — with patience, pain, and hope.

I had the opportunity to read this book ahead of publication, and these are my honest thoughts.
