Don’t start something you can’t finish. It’s a cliché, but 22-year-old graffiti artist Christian lives by those words. He’s going away when he graduates from art school in just six short months. With so little time left, getting involved with gorgeous Shea Nolan has to be a mistake. If only he could make himself stay away from the sweet, sexy police officer. Christian has a decision to make. Are a few months of happiness worth the inevitable heartbreak when it’s time to walk away? Against the Wall is the seventh book in Alexa Land’s best-selling Firsts and Forever series, but each book can stand alone, so jump in anywhere. PLEASE For ADULT READERS ONLY. Includes explicit language and graphic sex.
Is MC Christian a sexy little mofo? He is in my head.
Is his soon-to-be soulmate Shea adorable? Yes. He's a giant geek trapped in Captain America's body.
This is normally the part where I would complain that Shea is a wee bit too perfect. But, whatever, everyone in this series is perfect. It's just that type of series--everyone is as pure as the driven fluff.
Do Christian and Shea have sex against an actual wall at any point? Why, yes, I believe they do. Public sex is their kink. Go forth and fap.
Did the revelation of Christian's Big Dramatic Secret make you roll your eyes so hard you still have a headache? Yes. Here are a few examples:
Did you still get emotional over it? I refuse to answer that question.
Are you going to read the next book in the series? *mumbles* Yes. It's probably going to be about a rent boy named Chance. Who am I to say "no" to such genius? [Edit: Actually, the next book will be about reformed gigolo Gianni. The book after that will be about rent boy Chance.]
If you think it's so silly why do insist on reading the Firsts and Forever series? Cuz it's like Mary Calmes-crack-lite, okay? It's completely over the top ridiculous, compulsively readable fun and I need it.
I've been reading all the books in this series, so I knew what I was gonna get....WRONG !! This book took me from crying, to laughing to rolling my eyes, all within pages ;)
This one is about Christian, Sky's friend (book 6). I always liked him. He's awesome and funny. I always knew something was up...just didn't expect this. He's a very outgoing artist, who mostly does graffiti and he falls head over heels, for Shea.
Shea is one of the Nolan cousins....which means he's a cop, because they're all cops. He's very shy and very clumsy. His clumsiness was really funny, his shyness was a bit weird. I liked Shea, he was very good for Christian, but his character was a bit boring. Than again...Christian made up for this, because he definitely wasn't the boring kind ;)
Again we get the whole gang from the previous books and ofcourse Nana is still running the show ;) We also get introduced to some awesome new characters. Chance, a young prostitute, who I liked from the beginning and Zan, Christians dad. Zan was not the perfect father, but he really tried to be and he loves his son very much...there relationship was very sweet.
There is still a whole bunch of "I love you's " and cheese, but it's all a bit different. It's more emotional.
I think from all the books, I liked this one most, although I have to say that the ending felt very rushed...It started timeskipping, and I hate that....I don't like it when it feels like an author is racing for the finish line. Especially in this case, made it all a bit more ott and ridiculous.
This one evoked all kinds of emotions for me, and since I love it when that happens, I'm gonna give it 4 stars :)
Zan's book is next, very curious about that one.....the older guy with the younger dude ;)
Wow. This was unexpected and different from the other books in the series.
It had the insta-love and OTT moments with Nana but this book was angsty and made me cry many times. Even though I figured out early on what was happening with Christian, I didn't know all of the details and when I got them, I lost it.
Yup. Sappy Sara bawled through the last half of this book. Holy Crap, I have the worst headache now.
But I loved Christian before his book and I love him more now and Shea, he is everything. Just everything.
And Christian's dad... what a beautiful realtionship. Just stunning.
My head hurts. My nose is stuffy. This was a really good book even though it made me cry.
Thanks to Alexa Land for another installment of the book crack that makes my heart happy.
I'm glad this series is continuing because the ending happened fast and I need to know everything that happens with Christian and Shea. Their story can't be over yet!
A great edition of the Firsts and Forever series. I laughed. I cried. I cried some more. I cursed the author for making me cry. I praised the author for making me feel.
Now, excuse me while I move on to the next in the series. Bring on Gianni and Zan!
Christian and Shea's book has the addicting formula I've come to expect from the Firsts and Forever series including over-the-top antics, insta-love, hot and heavy sexing and super sweet characters that exhibit unwavering love and loyalty to those they make their family and friends. This one felt a bit heavier though and I'll admit to feeling a sadness over a good part of the last quarter of the book .
Alexa Land knows how to seamlessly introduce new characters and make you immediately love them (I'm already looking forward to both Chance and Zan's stories and whoever their respective love matches will be). She has created a world of quirky, loveable characters, with Nana as the over-the-top matriarch of this ever-growing family. In addition to the MC's and the newbies, the regular cast of characters is back, but this one still can work as a standalone if you haven't yet jumped into the series. I'll be eagerly awaiting Gianni's story and, knowing his penchant for older men and women, keeping my fingers crossed for who I'd like to see as his partner.
This was so what I needed. I love this series it is like crack to me. I cried I think the entire last 20% Thanks Alexa for that! LOL LOVED LOVED LOVED!!!
Christian is Skye’s best friend from the previous book. We know that Christian is planning to leave in a couple of months. But that is all everyone knows. No one knows what’s going on with him.
When Christian meets Shea it is almost love at first sight. How can Christian not fall for adorable Shea?
He spun around and took a few steps in my direction, cutting across the dance floor. In the next instant, his arms were flailing over his head and he fell like a tree that had been chopped down, tripping over God knows what and landing flat on his belly. He knocked over at least ten people on his way down in a domino effect. The slippery ice that had flown out of his glass took out another dozen, most of them knocking down even more people as they fell.
But Christian doesn’t want to hurt Shea when he knows he has to leave in a couple of months so he tries to keep his distance. But this doesn’t work out, because Nana takes everyone on a cruise!
Christian is surprised to see Shea there, but it turns out Shea is part of the Nolan family, so he was invited too.
There were ridiculous games, lots of cocktails and we even got public sex! I loved that cruise. I want to be Nana when I’m eighty. Bungee jumping and all.
Shea and Christian can’t help but to fall madly in love with each other, but Christian knows he has to say goodbye soon since he is going to go away. Of course Shea won’t have that when he finds out Christian’s secret. . He wants to be there for him even when
Don’t worry, everything works out fine and we got a lovely HEA!
I had just reviewed two very difficult books that had left me in tears and thought to myself – Firsts and Forever – I could do with some happy and a good laugh. Yeah, that didn’t work out too well. This has got to be the most difficult and emotional book in the series and I ended up blubbering again! Talk about having to wait until the last minute to see how the story ends!!
I was excited to see Christian’s story but wouldn’t have guessed how it would pan out in a million years! Well played Alexa! You gave us a character that we all fell in love with and then you gave us his story and nearly stopped our hearts!
Christian is someone you can’t help falling in love with. He is thoughtful and kind, always willing to help and carrying a huge secret. He can also be a jerk sometimes but there are reasons for his erratic and sometimes frustrated behaviour. He lives for the thrill of giving the public his art through graffiti. He has nearly finished his college course and in 6 months plans on going away so the last thing he is looking for is a relationship.
Shea Nolan, hot cop, first noticed Christian when Nana was arrested whilst up to her usual antics. He was so easy to adore! This huge man was a complete nerd, nervous like you wouldn’t believe and seemed to make a habit out of tripping over his own feet. His character grew so much during the story and the love and devotion he showed Christian was off the charts.
I don’t want to give too much away but suffice to say Christian’s no dating rule goes out of the window when he meets Shea but all he can promise the man is six months. He won’t give a reason for this but you can bet when Shea realises he will fight him all the way.
NANA!! This would not be a Firsts and Forever book without Nana and she is every bit as crazy and outrageous as she’s always been. She is becoming perfect at organising gay homosexual weddings even if it means taking over a cruise ship. Please don’t ever kill Nana off!!!
This is a fantastic addition to the series and Alexa if you are taking requests “please can Chance have his own story soon”
I kept alternating between bursting out with laughter (that cake scene!) and wiping away tears while reading. I had some pretty wild theories about what was going on with Christian, and none of them were right - I’d make a terrible detective.
Shea and Christian were wonderful together - so loving and supportive - and the side characters were, as always, lots of fun. I can’t wait to see some of them get their happy endings.
DNF at 44% I don’t know what was the main reason this wasn’t working but it wasn’t. First I thought this shouldn’t be read as a Standalone since the constant reappearance of past characters (and so many of them) but I got used to it after a while and since most of the appearances were brief I just didn’t give them much attention. Maybe this was great for someone who actually read the entire series but the writer said this could be read apart (this is the only reason I’m rating it) I think the problem was me not feeling for the characters. Every one was extra super sky high nice and supportive and don’t get me started with the Insta love. Not for me I guess.
In my dreams I'm in an Alexa Land story. My greatest wish is that I could live in her world and be one of her lead characters.
There used to be a commercial about potato chips saying you can't eat just one. The same thing for Alexa Land's books. Read book one in the series and you just can't stop. Memorable characters, Funny, Emotional, Romantic, Surprising, Well Plotted, Entertaining, HEA and Addictive.
Again I want to live in the world she created with this series. Even if I wasn't the main character, everyone can enjoy life in the happily-ever-after mind of Alexa Land full of hot and loving gay men and a crazy, brave, lovable and very funny grandma mafiosi. Come for the sexy men, stay for the story and enjoy the humor filled happily ever after.
Another beautiful story. I was totally smitten with Christian from Skye Blue. I wanted to know him. And boyo boy do we ever. It totally blew me away when I learned Christian's secret. I'm pretty sure I had a panic attack at one point. I definitely had a few ugly cry's and there were lots of Kleenex's involved. Have them at the ready. You're gonna need'em. Even through all the tears, I have to say there was plenty of sweet sexy man on man sex. Shea was so right for Christian. I really enjoyed Christians dad. I hope we get to explore him more in another book. When Nana's around there's always adventure and this time was no different. She was primed and ready to go. lol I want to be her one day. I love weddings, with so many great guys in previous books who got there HEA it was awesome to see them all get married. I was in awe at how the author works all the secondary characters into the new story catching us up on old friends giving you just enough details without over sharing making it seamless.
I believe each book can be read as a stand alone. Yet if you read them in order you get beautifully written stories with lots of rich history of some amazing families some by birth some by choice, with a whole network of friends willing to help each other; with Nana at the core brandishing her own sense of humor and self. I love this series. It's full of ridiculously funny, sometimes over the top, never gonna happen in real life adventure, but I think that's sometimes just what I need. It puts a smile on my face and warms my heart. I hope Alexa Land continue writing these romantic m/m stories for years to come, giving us her uniquely zany comedic spin. Waiting patiently for book 8.
This is a real great romance that really speaks to embracing joy and the part of love that means just being together.
It is hard to write this review without a spoiler. Christian keeps a big secret. He is a young character so I forgive him for his stubbornness. Shea is just the warmest and bravest. It is a great HEA.
I also love the friendship the Christian develops and the discussion of arts. There is lots of love there as well.
Painfully and very funny at times, a great romance.
Against The Wall puts the series back on track. First let me say, I’ve fallen in love with a secondary character named Chance and he is someone that has a great story in him. Now back to the story, Against The Wall gets intense and this time Alexa Land did her homework, pacing this one much better. Taking in and not glossing over the situation she’s created. The pendulum still swings but it’s much more purposeful.
OK, so I was kinda torn about this one. I actually stopped at 45% and read a few other books before I finally got around to finishing it. And that was because around that halfway mark, the story went completely off the rails. We started with a thrill-seeking graffiti artist getting involved with a cop, and I thought, Ooooh, this could be good, but then suddenly there was an abused rent boy with a heart of gold, a partying grandma, a bipolar agoraphobic secret celebrity father, a wacky wedding cruise, extreme sports, and clandestine cruise ship assignations....so yeah, I quit reading, feeling a tad overwhelmed.
I picked up again a little over halfway through the cruise, and perhaps I shouldn't have been shocked when, once the characters made it back to dry land, BAM, inoperable brain tumor.
I found a lot of the dialogue ridiculously funny, and the characters themselves were endearing, there was just...too much. If the drama had been dialed back a bit, this would have been a four star read for me.
I loved Christian and Shea's story. They were good for each other and I wanted to read Zane story for a while. It wasn't what I was expecting, but it was really good. It kept me reading faster and faster.
The two weddings and all the other characters were great too.
My only complaint it's that the book was beautifully detailed all up to Skye's wedding after that the pacing went into fast forward. I wanted to enjoyed the ending, but it felt forced by the quick events.
Looking forward to the next books in the series. I hope Zan is Gianni's HEA. and I'm curious about who will be Chance's.
Such a wonderful addition to the First and Forever series. Christian and Shea are great together. Love all our previous met cast of characters. Also I am excited about the new characters we've been introduced to. I can't wait for more stories in this series. I am so attached to these people and their world even though it's fiction. Maybe it's weird but I love being apart of their world while reading this series and trying to guess and anticipating what's coming next and who is going to fall in love with who. It's a wonderful and beautiful journey. Thank you.
OMG Alexa!! The book was brilliant!! I was on an emotional ride with this book. I laughed so much the tears came( I love Nana) & I had a smile on my face reading it, I cried a bit in the beginning then 62%in... I had the biggest ugly cry & was about ready to through my e-reader, my heart broke & I cried through the rest of the book & had a break with laughter @ Skye & Dare's wedding cake part( omg so funny) then kept crying... So worth it though :) Great Job Alexa!! Looking forward to next book but more excited about Chance's, just loved him from the start & my heart hurt for him :(
Damn.... Alexa Land played with my heart and made me cry a lot with this one..hehe I'm not giving anything away but you will need tissue. I loved visiting with everyone from past books and what can I say about Nana?, I love this woman she's the best! This series is in my top ten series of any series I've read. Shea and Christian's love for each other was just so beautiful. I hope the couple we see in the next book is who I think it is? Man Alexa Land is always an auto buy for me. If you haven't read this series yet you need to get it ;-)
Absolute must read!! I've loved all the books in this series... This one takes it to a whole new level. I laughed hysterically in places and sobbed in others, riveted the entire time. What more can you ask for from an author than to touch your heart so thoroughly?
I recommend that everyone take a day, grab your tissues and your favorite beverage, hang the do not disturb sign and curl up with this marvelous tale.
In a perfect world, Alexa would publish a book once a week so we could all have our fix! They're goofy, fun and heartwarming. A perfect combination. Alexa's writing has also become stronger and it shows in every new book.
Loved Christian and Shea!
4.5. Lost half a star bc I felt the ending was a bit rushed.
Another great story in the Firsts and Forever series. Really lovely; I always enjoy all the recurring characters in Alexa Land's series. Also got to meet some new members to the cast of characters; I look forward to reading about Chance and Gianni ..... sweet Chance really stole my heart. <3
So Alexa Land did what i believed that she never going to do. SHE BROKE MY HEART omg this book it's the best of all, it play with my feeling so badly, but then that ending appear and OMG just just, i love it
I so love this series. And this one especially. So emotional, heartbreaking and with a very happy ending indeed! And let's not forget Nana, heehee! She rocks.
"This series is always so low angst," I said in my last review. So of course this one had me sobbing on the regular. Wow. I'm torn about the ending, honestly. I saw it coming and it was handled better than I worried. But...also...it bothered me. I love Christian and Shae, though.
A short time of happiness is definitely worth inevitable misery. Christian was a gay graffiti artist who loved the thrill of painting his works of art on walls and buildings loving the thrill of possibly getting caught by the police. During one of his endeavors trying to get away from the police, he meets Chance, a prostitute, and pretending to be a tourist couple strolling from the dilapidated hotel, they get away becoming friends from that moment on. They go to a bar to have a drink together and across the room is a shy, gorgeous man looking Christian's way. Chance brings Christian's attention to the man. Christian finally decides to go say hello when the man gets up and starts walking his way. Out of an act of clumsiness, the man stumbles flat on his face in the middle of a very crowded dance floor. Humiliated and embarrassed the man, Shea Nolan, a police officer, leaves with his friends, getting away from Christian, but Christian goes after him. Incredibly shy, Shea acknowledges him, and Christian is straight forward with him asking him if he wants to take him home. Its Shea's Birthday and yes, he wanted that. Shea was still a virgin. Christian made it known that this was only sex, nothing more than a one night stand. The night was incredible. Christian couldn't stop thinking about Shea and inevitably couldn't stay away from Shea. Shea felt the same way....Christian had a secret, at least from his friends. He told his friend that he was leaving after graduation in June and never coming back. His best friend, Skye, was getting married in July, and he wanted Christian to be his best man, but Christian was adamant that he wouldn't be there. What was his secret?? It came out to his boyfriend, Shea, at Christmas and was devastating. Then to his friends soon after. The story was a very emotional and loving story about two people who fell in love regardless of what the future was holding. Both Christian and Shea were determined to be with each other till the good bye. There are beautiful moments within this story with family and friends. The story line flows with the other novels of this series. You find yourself entwined in the lives of all the dynamic characters, loving them, going through the good times and the traumatic events. Alexa has done it again with this wonderful story. Loved it. Must Read. Love and Forever....The Future is Unexpected
