On silent wings the hunt begins.

Ophelia Ashcroft transfers to the prestigious Kilbride University following a shameful family scandal. Intending nothing more than to bury herself in academics, she vows to power through her final year of studies unhindered. She couldn’t have predicted a dead student being found on campus or gleaming eyes stalking her from the shadows of Massachusett’s fog-drenched trees.

Kilbride University conceals more than advanced history lectures and the magnetic professor teaching them. When she's thrown in the path of the enigmatic Professor Luther Quinn, desire upends caution, and she can’t resist the attraction building between them. But one torrid encounter isn’t enough for either of them. Longing becomes obsession, passion devours, and his protectiveness tastes dangerously like possession.

Luther Quinn must have her, for reasons that might save her or destroy them both. He’ll do anything to claim her, and worse things to keep her. Ophelia finds herself hunted on both fronts, torn between the horrible creatures in the dark and the enticing man who covets her very soul.

Distressed and afraid, Ophelia must decide whether to run from the man desperate to own her… or from monsters seeking revenge for a broken vow.

Beautifully haunting and scorching hot.

The way the slow burn was teasing me was killer. I was begging these two to get it on already! But the tension was delicious, their longing looks, the banter and denial just another level of fun. The fact that they gave in made sweeter by the anticipation.

Luther was so intense and obsessed. He had a set path but one look at her and she came before anything else. He was dedicated to her safety and fell for her hard and fast. The danger only pushing him further into his devotion. His intelligence and role as a professor made him hot as hell, add in the age gap and you had yourself a very hot lesson!

Now, my girl Ophelia pushed my buttons a bit. She was great, her reactions and feelings were accurate and what I imagined everyone would feel in her position. The paranormal is deemed fake for a reason right? So the shock and denial were to be expected but after the 80% mark…she pissed me of a little. So smart yet so dumb at the same time. She recognized her flaws which I appreciated but I missed her having more strength, more will to live and fight in her.

The plot itself was wonderfully rich and interesting, I was intrigued and like the myth of it all. The prose and writing was very good. P and beautiful to describe the gothic setting and dark atmosphere.

Thank you, Raven, for the opportunity to read this early!

Quotes:

And I couldn't stop picturing him as a mountain and myself as a rather enthusiastic climber as the minutes ticked past.

"I want to make you feel good, Professor."
"Then ride my fucking cock, Ophelia."

This is a dark mystery based in a university, with a smoking-hot professor, his student, and some really shady things going on. The book has some horror elements as well as a lot of spice.

On one hand the story, both mystery and romantic plot, develops quickly, so you don't have to wait around for hundreds of pages for things to start happening. The language on the other hand is very descriptive and full of adjectives, which for me sometimes obscured the actual events and I had to backtrack and check if I had gotten things right. Then again, that might have also been due to the fact that I was obsessively reading this through all hours...

All in all, I'd recommend this to fellow readers who are into (very) spicy thrillers and fast-paced stories. The romance in itself isn't that dark here, but the overall atmosphere definitely is haunting.
