Seven Points: A Crash Test Novella

Rate this book
Six months after the events of Crash Test, Travis and Jacob's relationship faces a new test at the Singapore Grand Prix.

For six months, twenty-four-year-old Jacob Nichols has worked as a test driver for Crosswire Racing, the best Formula 1 team on the grid. For as many months, he’s been making things work with his boyfriend, Travis Keeping, the number one driver for Crosswire’s biggest rival, Harper Racing. Travis won the Drivers’ Championship with Harper last year, during a dark spell of time when he and Jacob were apart after a devastating crash almost took Jacob’s life.

Since getting back together, things have been better than ever, and when Jacob gets the chance to act as reserve driver for Crosswire at the Singapore Grand Prix, he jumps at the chance to spend the race weekend with Travis. The night before qualifying, he gets a call from Crosswire’s team principal, Sofia. One of their drivers has been injured, and Jacob will be filling in for the race. If he puts on a good performance, it might earn him his own F1 seat for next year. But every point he takes could compromise Travis’s shot at the championship—and put their relationship to the test.

I read Crash Test earlier this year, and I loved it so much. I’ve been thinking about Travis and Jacob all year. I usually wouldn’t be interested in reading another romance book about the same couple, so I like that this one was a novella, just giving us a peak back into their lives six months after the first book.

This was sweet, it had some really great moments, but I don’t think it had that same addictive quality as the first book did. I loved getting to see a little more action sequences with the F1 racing scenes, that was fun. But I also feel like the story ended the minute it was starting to get interesting.

I think the epilogue was interesting because it kind of sets up a potential for the next story, but at the same time it felt a little out of place in this novella.

Novella sequel to Crash Test with a tease for a future novel.

I think this is for fans only and should more properly be included in the main book, or be a freebie or something. Maybe I am spoiled by indie authors and freebies but this is really not worth getting on its own, unless one is a super fan. But in my current market, right now, it is included in the kobo plus program and I did not want to start a full length novel, so here we go.

It's even more formula 1 focused than the first book, basically all about one race in the calendar. The formula 1 feels really right in the little unimportant details and really wrong in the big plot events. Jacob is even more of a reader insert author's pet and is super hyper competent doing things no pilot ever did ever all the while having the total love and devotion of his famous boyfriend and getting to tell everybody really but without actually coming out and dealing with that fall out. Plus tease for a future story, with a PoV which really did not convince me as having a full personality (famous actor who is secretly very lonely and all plus asshole hated nepo baby F1 driver).

Fan service, with one character leaning even harder into Mary Sue territory than he had on the main novel, and a tease for a future pairing. I love the setting, and I think this could have been so good, but it is just so lazy...

Ahhhh, I kept telling people after I read (and loved) Crash Test that my one big criticism was that I wish we got more of Travis and Jacob together at the end of the book, so this novella answered my prayers. So cute! So sweet! God bless!

And the romance that was teased in the epilogue? Gimmegimmegimmegimmegimme.

okay really this is like. barely a 3 star book but I just love these characters so much and the first book is SO GOOD but seriously guys. nothing happens it’s actually comical. for one insane moment I genuinely thought she was introducing a sociopath to be the villain in a sequel but nooooo he’s just some guy who I assume will also find love blah blah blah just reheating heated rivalry’s nachos.

Anyway, Travis and Jacob you will always have my whole heart, it was just genuinely so nice to read them just in love and happy for 100 pages. (claudia don’t say a fucking word)

a lot packed into this novella! 6months after the events of Crash Test, we see Travis and Jacob again as Jacob is gearing up to fill in for another driver in his first ever F1 race. I think that this provided resolution to a lot of the questions and lingering feelings from the end of crash test. This also sets up the authors next book! overall a good follow up novella!! 3.75

Seven Points: A Crash Test Novella is here!!

Since Crash Test’s release, I’ve received so many incredible messages from readers letting me know how much Travis and Jacob mean to them. This new Crash Test novella, Seven Points, exists because of each and every one of you. I hope you have as much fun reading the next part of their story as I did writing it.

Thank you so much for all of your support! 💜

This novella brought all that delicious emotional damage from Crash Test right back to the surface, which is exactly what I wanted. And Ms. James, if you’re reading this, that epilogue worked a treat and I am HUNGRY for the next book.

Crash Test by Amy James was hands-down one of my favorite reads of the year—so much so that even with only two weeks left, it’s firmly planted in my top three. I devoured Jacob and Travis’s story and fell completely in love with them. So imagine my surprise (and immediate joy) when I realized there was a novella set six months later that had just been released. Naturally, I grabbed it the moment I found out.

Overall, Seven Points is a solid, enjoyable read that gently pulls you back into Jacob and Travis’s world, and for that alone, I’m grateful. There’s something deeply comforting about slipping back into a love story you already adore. That said, the reason this didn’t quite reach five stars—and only just makes it to four—is that it didn’t focus on their relationship as much as I was hoping. Instead, there’s a heavier emphasis on race car driving, which, for someone with little interest in that aspect, felt a bit underwhelming.

Even so, I’ll absolutely be rereading this alongside Crash Test because I love these two far too much to stay away. This novella feels like it might be a quiet goodbye to Jacob and Travis, though I’m crossing my fingers that it isn’t. And with a brief glimpse of two other intriguing characters in the final chapter, I’m already very much looking forward to what’s next.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.75/5

Jacob’s progression to F1 and performance seems a little unrealistic for someone who just had a nearly career-ending crash but this was cutesy and very enjoyable. Also it’s a novella and no one wants to read a novella where he doesn’t have a successful comeback/F1 debut lol

Novellas always leave you wanting more.
Told in Jacob’s perspective, we get an update on life after he reunited with Travis. What’s more, he finds success in F1.
Love the set up in the epilogue for the next book. Yippee. I look forward to Amy James’s next book.

I love them so much! I was so excited to see there was more from this author and world that has been created. And it did not disappoint! I wish it was a whole book instead of a novella, but I will take what I can get. If you loved Crash Test then you for sure should read this one

This novella takes super fans back into the world of Travis and Jacob.

Travis is leading the points race for the season when Jacob finds himself in a position to drive in F1, too.

It’s still sweet and funny and all of your favorite characters make an appearance - including Morocco! There is one brief sex scene, but if you came for spice, you’ll likely be disappointed.

My favorite part is that Travis is low key Kimi Raikkonen and I am here for it.

I read this immediately after Crash Test, and it was just so SO comforting. It was so nice to get to spend some time with them as an established couple, and the race was super fun to read about. The epilogue seems to set things up for a sequel, which I'm very much here for!

THIS level of love is the epilogue I needed from Crash Test. I get why Travis didn’t need groveling now but I needed to see Jacob’s depth.

Also, I am READY for Quin and Cole now. Kthanksbye

I don't think this novella was necessary, even if it was nice to see the couple again. It was also cool to see them race each other. The racing parts were exciting, but the relationship and banter were a bit lukewarm. The epilogue was a little out of place, but it did set up for a continuation of the series with a totally different couple. All in all, this was just ok. You don't need to read it, but if you really like the first book, then you wouldn't dislike this.

okay you know how much i loved crash test so you KNOW i was so excited when this was announced a couple weeks ago. i was so excited to get more of these characters and really enjoyed the premise but i do struggle with how likely some of the events that took place are as someone who watches formula 1.
this part might be long:
i don’t think it was super believable that jacob, who was previously just a test driver and had driven the actual car very few times if at all gets on pole AND finished p1. ESPECIALLY at a track like singapore i just don’t see that in any reality.
BUT i enjoyed it a lot and was kicking my feet for a lot of it. gonna force my friends to read it.

When Amy announced she was dropping a suprise novella featuring the two characters I haven't been able to get out of my head since reading the ARC of Crash Test at the beginning of the year, I was beyond stoked. I've been having a rough patch lately and this was just the pick-me-up I needed! I loved how much growth we got to see in Jacob & Travis, both individually and within their relationship. The parallels gutted me in the best way (specifically the "impress me"/"impressive" one lol). It may be a short book but it's taking up a lot of space in my heart for sure. I love these two!

Favorite Quotes:
🎙️ "I'll see you out there. I'll be the one driving much, much faster than you."
🎙️ "You could've made him grovel a little." "That's not how you treat people you love."
🎙️ "Yeah, sorry for complimenting you on your sexy boyfriend, Jacob."
🎙️ "Travis makes us all look like idiots in Q1"
🎙️ "You were on pace for pole position until that dog ran across track. Tell us what happened." "A dog ran across track."
🎙️ "Impressive."
🎙️ "I've lost count of how many times we've been together like this, and yet somehow, every single time, it's like a hill I have to climb, a choice I have to make. To be vulnerable with him or not, to hold a part of myself back or let him see how much I need him. It should get easier with time but it never does. But it never stops being perfect, either, when I summon up the courage to let him in."
🎙️ "There are a thousand possible outcomes tonight. And at the end of every one of them, I love you."
🎙️"You're it for me, Jacob. You're the love of my fucking life."
🎙️ "Travis is asking me for this. And there is nothing I won't do for him."
🎙️ "Travis doesn't make mistakes. He's the best driver in the world. But I'm in the faster car."
🎙️ "Can they really not hear it? Isn't it totally, utterly obvious that my entire world hinges on him?"
🎙️ "This is the place where I became a race winner, the place where I might have earned myself an F1 seat for next season. In thirty years, I might look back on this night as the turning point in my career. It should feel important. It does feel important. But it can't compare to the feeling of Travis's fingers threaded in mine or the look in his eyes when he smiles at me. And it will never hold a candle to him saying I make his life perfect, or to the faint tingling on my left ring finger, where his lips last touched my skin."

I stare at his messy handwriting for a minute. Then I put the shoes down, cross the distance between us, and kiss him hard.
“You are the love of my fucking life,” I say.

“Crash Test” by Amy James is a novella in the “Crush Test” universe, following the same mm couple, Travis Keeping and Jacob Nichols.

The book mainly focusses on Jacob’s journey when he gets the opportunity to drive in an F1 race for the first time. I like how everything happened.

“This really means a lot.” I glance sideways at Travis and give him a smile, crooked and subtle and just for him. “I couldn’t have done it without you.”

I really loved both Jacob and Travis in this book, and how supportive they are of each other. I really loved seeing how their relationship developed since “Crushed Test”, and how much they grew since then, especially Jacob. I like them even more in the novella than i did in the first book. There were a lot of really sweet moment between them that had me swooning, even if this was a short novella. If Amy ever writes anything else about them, I’m definitely reading it.

He kisses me softly and then rests his forehead against mine. “Listen to me. There are a thousand possible outcomes tonight. And at the end of every one of them, I love you.”

Overall, this was a fast, sweet read, and I really enjoyed it.
