Rate this book
Raven & Firefly is a New Adult Post-Apocalyptic Romantasy and the first installment in the Raven & Firefly series, blending historical fantasy, time travel, prophecy, and slow-burn romance into a world where nature and technology are at war.Perfect for readers who love morally gray characters, found family, ancient magic, star-crossed love stories, and emotionally devastating choices, Raven & Firefly explores grief, identity, survival, and what it truly means to be worthy of love in a world determined to destroy you.

Burned as a witch in 1694, Marcella Williams wakes 400 years in the future to a post-apocalyptic world where technology has replaced nature, and humanity no longer remembers how to survive without it.

Hunted for the strange power growing inside her, Marcella is pulled into a brutal world divided by war, prophecy, and the ruins of what humanity once was. Some believe she is the key to restoring the balance of the earth itself. Others would rather use her power to control what remains of it.

Torn between the boy she lost to time and the dangerous man willing to burn the world to protect her, Marcella must decide who she truly is before the future collapses entirely.

What a breath of fresh air! 👏🏻

I really enjoyed this one. Marcella was easy to connect to despite the wild circumstances she’s thrown into. She was a FMC to root for when so many these days are weak and, let's be honest, annoying.

I loved that the romance was low-spice and more focused on emotional connection and tension rather than explicit scenes. It felt natural and added depth without taking over the plot. There's so much focus on smut these days so I really loved the lack of it in this.

And that ending… the cliffhanger definitely did its job! Dang! I finished the book already excited for the next one and needing to know what happens next. Overall, a great start to a series with strong characters, intriguing worldbuilding, and just enough romance to keep things interesting. ❤️

I absolutely loved this book! I gave it 5 Stars, or in this case 5 Ravens!

By the end of this book I was on the edge of my seat & actually SCREAMED aloud when it ended. What?? Marcella? Elijah?? What?? I hit the next button multiple times hoping against hope that there would be more to read now. I am hoping that this will be a multi-book storyline. So… yes, be warned, it ends on a cliffhanger.

I have to say I needed to read the short prologue a few times to really understand it somewhat. However, it is vital that you give it your full attention for it DOES play a vital role in the storyline & it is very short. Yet from page one of Ch. 1, I became enthralled with Marcella and her life in the tiny village. Marcella’s history & time in the past was well written and kept my attention. I also fell in love with her family and her friend Matthew. I was rooting for Marcella & in Ch. 6 I was crying over the turn of the story. I knew where it would probably lead to and I was right. Chapter 8 was horrifying and the imagery was wonderful. I felt that I was truly there, witnessing a horrifying event. In Ch. 9 she ends up in a completely different world from her own. I became enthralled with the characters, the scenery, and the story twists. While by the end of the book I loved this world as well, I have to say her tiny village was my favorite.

The author did a great job putting in small snippets that helped the reader to connect the dots as one would say as the story went on. Yet they were spaced apart and I enjoyed that the story had mystery and was not spoon fed to you. This book will keep you engaged and I spent many hours reading in bed not able to put it down!

There was a shortcoming in the book in that there are some book images, or parts of books, shown in the story later on in the new world. These images were so small I had to use my kindle on my phone to take and then enlarge the pictures to see what they were saying. I feel they should have been of a size to read easily. However, there are not that many and it did not frustrate me enough to deduct a star.

I received a free copy of this book as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I am so grateful to have been an advance reader for this book!

I haven’t enjoyed a book this much in a long time! The first of its series, I felt like I was on a historical fiction rollercoaster turned futuristic thrill ride. It’s almost like Salem Witch trials meets a post-apocalyptic dystopian society. The emotions the main character goes through are palpable, and made my own heart hurt for her. She’s tough but caring, classy yet badass. The imagery in the book makes visualizing the scenery incredibly easy. The twists and turns of the storyline made me turn pages faster than I have in a while. You won’t know who to trust, who is good or bad, or who you are by the end. The cliffhanger ending that makes the fantasy genre what it is has me DESPERATE for the next book in the series.

So many people don’t give good stories a chance these days, because they just want spice, spice, spice! I promise you, while there isn’t much spice, the wild ride of this book will have your heart in tangles far more intense than a book that just has constant spice.

You will fall in love with the characters. You will have so many questions, many left unanswered (for now). I have! A feeling this series will become an incredibly popular one, at least, if it gets the credit it deserves!

This book is incredible. The characters are all so complex and fully formed, even the side characters. And Marcella??? My heart absolutely ACHED for her!!!! She has been THROUGH it!!!!! And while there is definitely a romantic subplot woven throughout, this book is primarily focused on her journey of self-discovery not only in her own world, but in a post-apocalyptic future as well. Trust me, it works. She goes from being an outcast in the 1600s to being accused of witchcraft and burned at the stake, only to find herself in a war ravaged future where she has to learn to survive all over again. All this, while getting to know herself in the process.

And Cain. I have a love-hate relationship with him, but by the end I was firmly in Camp Cain. He's a mystery I'll let y'all have fun unraveling yourselves ;)

Fair warning, we end on one heckuva cliffhanger! And I can't WAIT to find out what happens next!

I received an advance copy of this book, and omg do I ever hope I get an advance copy of the next one too because I NEED TO KNOW!!!

I had the huge honor of beta reading this and being the first (I think?) to finish it! I knew this was something special immediately. The story and the characters consumed my life! It was so good and not what I expected, I thoroughly enjoyed it and have now purchased a copy for some of my closest friends and of course a copy for myself!

The story - (slight spoilers) - we start with our FMC Marcella who lives in a time period where people are skeptical of witches and our FMC is high on the suspect list haha, you are introduced to her childhood friend Matthew who develops into a lover as well as Marcella's family (including a brother). Through many events that transpire in the beginning there is one of the coolest elements of this story that occurs and transports the story to the next level! We are introduced to an entire crew (found family and a new love interest?!), an insanely vivid world - the author painted the world so well I could picture everything perfectly - and a compelling story that will leave your jaw on the floor and screaming for book 2! Cannot recommend enough.

This book was another surprise for the year! I stumbled across it on Kindle during a sale and am so glad I added it. This was an absolute breath of fresh air from many other fantasy books I’ve been reading.

I absolutely loved the FMC Marcella. The strong willed woman who is the center of the story. Surrounded by mystery and looked down on for her differences among her puritan-like village in 1694.

What I absolutely loved was the mystery surrounding everything. From the various symbols (ravens and fireflies), to the events of Marcella’s life that were not making sense, even to her, there was so much to theorize about throughout the book.

Cain was a wonderful MMC. He has that dark and broody nature, but, he was also kind to Marcella from the start. Fighting his own grief and inner demons in the unforgiving world they lived in, I wanted to keep learning more about him.

There is quite a cliffhanger and I cannot wait for Book 2!

★★★★★ okay i have to say it up front ~ the author is my sister 💜 but i’m genuinely so proud and so impressed.

raven & firefly is dark, atmospheric, and so compelling ~ a 1694 witchcraft accusation, survival against impossible odds, and then waking in a post-apocalyptic future where magic/tech/nature are out of balance. the world feels intense and real, and the slow-burn romance is the kind that actually earns every inch of trust (and makes it hurt in the best way 😭).

it’s a stunning debut with big stakes, beautiful consequence-driven storytelling, and i can’t wait to follow this series wherever it goes 🕯️🖤✨

I absolutely fell in love with this story. The nods to the title, the characters both big and small, the twists and turns (some I saw coming while others surprised me completely). I love the growth of Marcella throughout and didn’t expect so much from her as she starts as a strong character. My only complaint is that I want more! The end has me dreading the wait for book 2. A wonderful book.

When I saw the theme for this story, a mix of historical and apocalyptic, I had to try it. And I can say that Elizabeth did a fantastic job crafting this tale. One that blended intensity and thrills with moving emotional moments and shocking twists, to create such a wonderful story. Not to mention the strong character work she built.
It is truly well done, and I can’t wait to read more here.

(ARC reader thank you to Elizabeth DeCicco)

WHAT can I say about this book? I haven't felt such emotional attachment to characters in such a long while! Elizabeth DeCicco managed to bring us a beautifully written story of resilience, yearning and love. Her storytelling is phenomenal and had me hooked from the very first chapter. Keep notes and annotate (you're going to want to) because EVERYTHING...(EASTER EGGSSSSS) comes together by the time you are done reading. BTW CLIFFHANGER!

You begin your journey in the 17th Century and get to know young Marcella. You will follow her through pain, torture and love. Elizabeth gives us JAW dropping plot twists, amazing world building, in depth characters and a surprise dual pov??!!

I need more of this world she has built.

The HEART lives on. This needs to be published immediately and picked up into a series or movie adaptation.

I will be looking forward to book 2!
