A contemporary story about a set of twins Daisy and Jakob. Each with their POV in their current lives and their past toxic childhood. Their parents favoured their older sister, and they were mistreated. The household was surrounded by alcoholism. All this trauma and abuse led to the adults they are today. Despite them trying to push through, it definitely has defined them in adulthood, which has influenced their relationships and sense of self. The themes in this book are painfully real and honest, where all generations can resonate! This was a compelling read and highly recommend.
I loved this for so many reasons. The characters were unapologetically real and relatable, as were the descriptions of flashbacks and CPTSD. An eye opener for anyone who has not experienced trauma or it's lifelong side effects and a literary hug and "you're not alone" to anyone that has. Finally an author that doesn't romanticise, sexualise or overdramatise real life struggles and that understands that sometimes life doesn't offer you closure no matter how much you think you might need it.
I loved this book! It is beautifully written, and you get to know the characters so well. Past and present are seamlessly woven together, giving real insight into the way traumatic experiences stay with us. Despite the serious subject matter, it’s also funny and full of everyday moments that are super relatable.
