Apprentice magician Edwin has several problems. The Lantern of Illumination has gone missing. Unexpected snow is threatening his garden. And he’s always been anxious and awkward about talking to people, even fellow apprentices. Especially the gorgeous and self-confident Khiy.
Khiy enjoys helping people and making friends; his magical gifts involve communication, and he’s good at it. But he’s found a challenge in Edwin, who’s avoiding him. On top of that, he’s facing a first assignment he’s not sure he’s ready for, even though everyone expects him to succeed.
But if they can work together, Edwin and Khiy just might solve all their problems and bring their own feelings to light.

Beautiful novella, a lovely addition to the Middle Lands series, it can absolutely be read as a standalone, though.

It's always fun to revisit this world, and I really like these two characters. I'm glad there'll be at least one more story for them.

Another thing I love about KL Noone is how her voice and figures of speech make the ordinary extraordinary. Being immersed in her world of implausible possibilities makes me yearn for fantastical places.
Another lovely and wonderful blooming romance novella from this master of romantasy. Truly lovely, a little moment in time for two magicians in another world and time when magic has been under suspicion and their calling and schooling is geared to show people there's nothing to be afraid of.
Edwin works with plants and communicates with them and feels far more comfortable with them than with people. Khiy has influence magic and gets along with any and everyone, is very sociable and careful not to abuse his power. But oh, how he wants to get to know the shy and elusive Edwin better.
Just a lovely warm charming tale of two scholars drawn to each other, one hopelessly and the other hopefully, finding their way together. Sigh. I ate it up. It's set in the Magician world and timeframe and takes place between Sorceress and Magician.
HFN that will be an HEA. School colleagues to lovers. Sweet and steamy. Extrovert/introvert romance. Fantasy. NO others or any OM drama at all, just brief info on pasts. Safe for me. Highly recommended.

Lovely, but a bit forgettable. I wish it was a tad longer, a bit more complex. There's a lot of potential and I have no real complaints, but I'm just not feeling terribly generous atm. I also have not actually read Sorceress yet, so I might be missing a part of the charm because of that. But it is not far from the 4th star and I will keep gobbling up these Middle Lands stories for sure.
