Alien Separation is the Eleventh installment in the Katherine "Kitty" Kat series. The story picks up right where the previous installment, Universal Alien, left off. After being sent to another universe and returning after kicking ass and taking names, again, all Kitty wants to do is have a little sexy time with her husband Jeff Martini, and some mommy time with daughter Jamie, the hybrid alien baby who has abilities nobody has seen before.
The Mastermind has been identified after Kitty's travel to a multi-verse where there are different versions of her, and Jamie. But, what happens when Kitty has to reveal the identity of the Mastermind to her best friend Charlies Reynolds who has been the target of many of THIS persons actions? Will he lose his mind and go on a rampage? Or, will he remain calm, cool, and collective until all the pieces of the puzzle are in front of him?

Kitty and family are zapped to another planet and haphazardly separated from each other. This new planet is very much like Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, each region on this planet has a unique and colorful beauty but dangers that keep them running for their lives. Besides the beauty and dangers, each region contains particular and rare intelligent beings that Kitty and her team must befriend to survive.
Lots of snark and witty banter accent their lengthy journey around the planet searching for their missing party members with Kitty collecting a menagerie of animals along the way.
Fun, easy reading and quite enjoyable, Alien Separation was a colossal jaunt into the fantasy world of Gini Koch's imagination.

Quick & Dirty: Different worlds, big bugs…
Opening Sentence: “Revenge is a dish best served cold.”
The Review:
Kitty is back and it is really Kitty not the Kitty from the alternative universe. She soon finds out Stephanie aka traitor is missing after being involved with Cliff, which as we all know from the last book was unveiled as the Mastermind. So they finally reveal the big news to Chuckie who of course is heartbroken and mad. After all, that was his best friend, and he murdered his wife.
As they gear up to go after the Mastermind, they suddenly find themselves whisked away into a whole other solar system. Same reality this time, but this world has huge bugs on it and it is kind of freaking Kitty out. Soon they find themselves in the middle of a civil war. Of course, it is also filled with Clones and the King is none other than a clone of Ronaldo himself.
Will Kitty be able to get the whole group back together, and will they be able to find her daughter? Will they be able to get back to Earth? Will things ever be slightly normal for them?
I have to say this one was entertaining, but also felt really silly. I am not even sure where it fits in the overall scheme of Kitty’s world. Basically, instead of dealing with Mastermind now that they know who he is, the end spends 524 pages on Beta Eight with, Ancients, Amazons, and clones in some kind of weird civil war with big bugs and the All Seeing Mountain. I mean Bizarro World wasn’t old enough, although that book (previous to this) was actually really interesting and complex. This is so hit or miss for me. This was overall a miss, I like my series to have a deeper mystery and things that tie it together.
I honestly couldn’t figure out what this had to do with anything that happened earlier or how it actually advanced the story. I mean it did tie in some elements and of course as always introduced loads of new friends. Kitty was on point with her humor, and Jamie was kidnapped again, so okay, it did have things in common with previous books.
Notable Scene:
This didn’t matter at all to Jeff or me, of course. They’d taken our little girl and drugged her and we basically wanted to hunker down and hide her. Of course, events were not going to allow us to ever be regular parents, and this particular excursion was definitely Exhibit A.

I've been a huge fan of this series since the very beginning and one of the things I love most about it is that you never know what crazy kind of situation Gini Koch is going to dream up next. She is brilliant building complex and compelling plots that evolve masterfully across the entire series but she also has the most amazing imagination and I really never know what to expect when I pick up one of her books. What I can guarantee is that it will always be hilariously funny, full of action and crazy antics and introduce us to a whole host of fabulous new characters.
If you're reading this review I'm going to assume you're up to date with the series so if you aren't please be aware that there may be spoilers for previous books. For a long time now we have known that there was a Mastermind at play, someone who was orchestrating everything that has gone wrong for Kitty and the rest of her team, but it wasn't until Universal Alien that we finally discovered who that Mastermind was. I have to admit I fully expected Alien Separation to be all about Kitty revealing the news to the rest of her allies and them coming up with a plan to take the Mastermind down so I was a little surprised with the way things turned out. Not because I didn't love the story but because once again Gini Koch managed to drop me down a rabbit hole completely unprepared!
I'm actually going to be deliberately vague when I talk about Alien Separation, I picked it up and started reading without even reading the blurb (this series gets an automatic jump to the top of my to read pile no matter what the description says) and I think I enjoyed it even more because I had no clue what to expect. What I will say is that Kitty and her usual sidekicks are all on top form, they're in the middle of several conspiracies, they make some surprising new allies, kick the butts of some old foes and generally bring peace to the galaxy. It's all in a day's work for these guys! Things are definitely building to a head though, the Mastermind's days are numbered and I can't wait to see how Kitty and co manage to bring them down. I'm completely addicted to this series and I'm just thankful that Gini Koch is such a prolific writer and so I won't have to wait too long for the next instalment.

The Mastermind has been revealed but no one knows how to tell Chuckie who killed his wife. Proof will need to be found.
Kitty has been back from her multiverse trip for only 12 hrs when she and a large number of her pack, including Jef & baby Jamie are pulled to Beta 8 in the Alpha Centuri system. They don't know who has done this or why this has happened.
This is essentially a wonderful adventure in a different universe from our own, so most things like flying snakes and ferret people are to be taken on trust.
The biggest thing wrong with the unexpected trip is that most of the travellers are split up. All the earth people are trying to find each other while at the same time trying to find out what is going on, and how to help our friends in the AC solar system. Kitty, Christopher & Chuckie end up in Purple Land and meet some good friends and some hungry creatures which Kitty names Snakipedes.
It is obvious that a war is brewing between the other inhabitants of the AC solar system with the prize being Beta 8. Kitty has her purse with her thanks to Algar, who it appears had a lot to do with Beta 8, including the coloured lands, tunnels, caverns, mindreading creatures and spiral up to the All Seeing Eye on top of the mountain.
Algar is feeding Kitty information through her ipod tunes and the odd gun clip, machine gun and contained nuclear device through the portal in her purse. She also has a goodly amount of poofs & Bruno to back her up.
Once again Kitty saves both Earth, Beta 8 & the rest of the Alpha Centuri system from the sneaky Z'porrah.
Lots of fun and humour and you can tell Gini had lots of laughing out loud moments whilst writing this one.

If you’ve ever seen curious about science fiction but are daunted by the sheer sizes of the average book, Gini Koch’s Katherine “Kitty” Katt series is one that readers need to try. I find this especially true if you’re a fan of Urban Fantasy and those action-packed scenes and snarky heroines.
Kitty has had a lot of things going on with her life both personally and professionally but one thing that is constant is her upbeat personality and narrative. I find that no matter the situation, Kitty remains unfazed by it all and it really makes me admire her as a heroine. Who else can say they have dealt with a clone of themselves or have shifted to some alternate reality and now must find a way to merge their group back together before facing another bad guy? For Kitty, this is just a day in the life.
Here’s just a little glimpse of what you can expect and love about Kitty:
“A battle will be coming, though, one day or the other. Because it’s time to take the bull by the horns and ram those horns right into the Mastermind’s personal tenders. So to speak.
But at least I won’t be fighting this battle with only a small commando force. For this battle, I’m going to ensure I have an army. And, to quote one of my favourite ’80s glam rockers, it’s time to make the Mastermind Stand and Deliver. For I am a Woman of the Multiverse and I will not allow evil to go unchecked.
Yeah, fine, fine. Let’s go with what’s been working all the time. Yo, Mastermind – just thought you should know that Megalomaniac Girl is back and she’s madder and badder than ever. So watch your step, ’cause I’m coming for you.”
I suggest reading the series in order because Koch likes to build upon what she had done in the previous books. However, there’s been a lot of time between books and I read a lot of other ones and still find myself integrating myself back into this world really easily. I think this is the case because Kitty is just so easy to love that it makes you want to find out what’s been going on with her, almost like you would a good friend. I think Gini Koch has done such a fabulous job of making this series fun and exciting while taking readers on an adventure that is just as unique and original as the first book.
With the identity of the Mastermind revealed, all hell has broken loose and now Kitty and her team are against the biggest threat they will ever face. Kicking ass with a smile on her face, Kitty hasn’t stopped making readers rejoice!

Now the truth comes out, the Mastermind is revealed, just like the wizard of Oz is revealed behind the curtain. This description is apropos since the world Kitty lands up in is like an acid trip into the Wonderful Land of Oz. Ms. Koch is a master at creating the familiar and reinterpreting into a manner which is totally refreshing.
In this new book, Kitty and her team of superpower heroes are beamed up into a world which does not make sense. Kitty quickly figures out who brought them to the planet. What she doesn't know, is why she is there when she really needs to be back on planet Earth to foil the Mastermind. My thought was this is the book with the big showdown. No, it is not. It's the book setting up for a big showdown. Who knows what will happen because I can never predict Ms. Koch. This is why I love her books and I'm hooked. I can't anticipate what will happen in this very robust world. I can just go along for the ride. This story is like a mix of Oz plus Middle Earth. I'm also feeling a little of Wind in the Willows with the talking animals.
The different aliens and how it all comes together blew my mind. Once again there are many plots going on at the same time and create a cohesive story in a way that makes so much sense. Trying to follow all of this linearly or with step by step logic will only make a person crazy. As a person who finds comfort in linear patterns, for some reason, this "fuzzy logic" works for me. Everything about this story appealed to me. Once again Ms. Koch does a marvels job with her character creation and world building. My favourite characters are the ones which come in at the end from the water planet filled with Penguin people. Hopefully those aliens will come into play more in future books.
I have no clue where this series is going. I only know that I'm a diehard fan and can't wait to read the next books. Ms. Koch is an innovative writer bringing a creative world, complex characters, quirky humour and sexy geek speak. This series is definitely for readers who enjoy tangent thoughts as well as comic book and sci-fi references. It takes a certain brand of crazy to catch all the nuances and Easter eggs in this series. This is what keeps my mind fully engaged and yearning for more. Of all the alien genre books I've read, this is the most intellectually captivating. Recommended for fantasy lovers who enjoy the classics and stay relevant with current sci-fi trends.

Overview:
In this addition of Kitty the Incredible we find that our stars have been beamed up to the unknown. Upon arrival Kitty is happy to discover that she is not in enemy territory but a new world of fantastical creatures which resemble familiar animals and insects of her own world. As per usual Kitty finds a way to make new friends, save the day, and bring home a few new family pets.
Thoughts, Likes, Dislikes:
Even though this is book 11 I still love it. I especially enjoyed this story as we get to explore a new world with new creatures that are both extremely different to anything we’ve seen before but also familiar. The author was able to keep things interesting while not going too overboard with the fantastical. I think my favorite new creature was the Cleophese (for some reason my mind jumped to Disney’s Fantasia). As the author moves forward I hope we see more of the sci-fi elements she’s written about in the last two books and less political conspiracies. However, I’m still keeping my eye on Hacker’s International….. for some reason I smell a traitor. Thanks Gini for another great novel or as I like to say… routine!

rhaaaaaaa cééétrooobiiieeeeen *-* ♥ (ouais je sais je suis pas très objective mais bon...)
après moulte aventure, il était temps pour l'Alpha Team de se voir téléportée dans une autre galaxie, sur une petite planète bizarre au coeur d'une guerre civile entre 7 races extraterrestres (dont plusieurs qu'on connait déjà ^^), forcément ça pouvait pas être simple xD.
ce tome m'a énormément fait penser à Farscape, car Kitty, projetée au milieu d'alien, n'en perd pas une pour faire des références à Star Wars et au comics, sauf que personne autour d'elle pige que dalle xD ...
l'histoire prendrais 12 pages à raconter alors je vous épargne dans cette review, mais on apprend des tonnes de trucs sur les intrigues majeures et PUTAIN LA FIN O_O !!!!! vivement le prochain huhu ^^
après moulte aventure, il était temps pour l'Alpha Team de se voir téléportée dans une autre galaxie, sur une petite planète bizarre au coeur d'une guerre civile entre 7 races extraterrestres (dont plusieurs qu'on connait déjà ^^), forcément ça pouvait pas être simple xD.
ce tome m'a énormément fait penser à Farscape, car Kitty, projetée au milieu d'alien, n'en perd pas une pour faire des références à Star Wars et au comics, sauf que personne autour d'elle pige que dalle xD ...
l'histoire prendrais 12 pages à raconter alors je vous épargne dans cette review, mais on apprend des tonnes de trucs sur les intrigues majeures et PUTAIN LA FIN O_O !!!!! vivement le prochain huhu ^^

Eleventh in the Katherine "Kitty" Katt science fiction romance series and revolving around Kitty Katt-Martini, the fully human ambassador to the United States for the Alpha-Centaurions. And all-around kickass heroine.
My Take
Alien Separation was fun, silly, and far-fetched: a combination of cartoon planet and its inhabitants along with the A-C superpeople. Yep, I mean it in every sense of the word, lol. The core cast were beamed up and out from one planet to another, and the destination planet and its flora and fauna were pretty outrageous. As were the events that took place there.
It's signature Kitty with riffs and rips, but with minimum music. Adding the Gods touch was fun. I also enjoyed Koch's choice of who were the true dominant species on Beta Eight. Too funny. The Matriarchs certainly thought Kitty was funny, lol.
There are chase scenes, coups, betrayals, near escapes, space battles on flying bugs with space-going sea monsters, and sentient penguins, but we never do find out about the waterfruit. I did find the "switching sides" routine too easy, but it was in keeping with the comics quality of Alien Separation.
Oh, lordy, I did love Matt's comment about he and Chip wanting to "share that we want to be their best friends", lol.
It's certainly a fun way to get a message across about non-interference.

Just when Kitty and Jeff think they're safe, they're beamed out from Earth into another solar system along with Jamie, Charles, Paul, Christopher, Airborne, the Dazzlers, and more.
Not knowing if this is the action of the Mastermind or someone else — and worse, landing in scattered groups on various areas of Beta Eight in the Alpha Centauri system means getting the team back together will be a major issue. But it's only one of the challenges they'll face.
They'll have to forge alliances with the different sentient natives, stop a civil war, overthrow the king, protect outcasts, and take mind reading lessons.
The Characters
Katherine "Kitty" Katt-Martini, a.k.a., Megalomaniac Girl, is still the ambassador for the A-Cs and a Doctor Doolittle with some A-C powers due to their daughter's gestation period. Jeff Martini, an empathic A-C, is currently the vice-president of the United States. Jamie-Kat is their enhanced daughter. ACE is our universe's superconsciousness; he resides in Jamie's head.
Charles "Chuckie" Reynolds lost his A-C wife, Naomi Gower (the Mother of the Gods), to Goodman's machinations. She's now a superconsciousness out in the multiverse. Kitty's parents are Angela and Sol Katt. Angela heads up the Presidential Terrorism Control Unit (PTCU).
Christopher White is Jeff's cousin and married to Amy Gaultier-White. Richard White is Christopher's father, Kitty's partner in the field, and the former Pontifex. Paul Gower is the A-C's Supreme Pontifex, their most important religious leader. He's married to Commander James Reader, one of Kitty's best friends (a former model) and the head of Field operations for Alpha Team. Abigail Gower is Paul's sister. Alfred and Lucinda are Jeff's parents.
Malcolm Buchanan has skills James Bond would envy. Walter Ward runs Embassy Security; his brother, William, is head of security at the Dulce Science Center. Melissa is an A-C based in Australia. Benjamin Siler, a.k.a., Nightcrawler, is a French A-C with hyperspeed and chameleon abilities who came into the story in Alien Collective , 9, and is an assassin working with "Uncles" Peter "the Dingo" and Vic Kasperoff. Evalyne is the head of Kitty's Secret Service detail. Sam Travis is the traitorous Secret Service agent. Kyle Constantine and Len Parker could have gone into pro football, but chose to become Kitty's CIA bodyguards. Princesses Rahmi and Rhee are warriors from Beta Twelve in the Alpha Centauri system who were sent to Earth by their mother, Queen Renata.
Pierre is the concierge majordomo for the embassy. Rajnish Singh is the Embassy Public Relations Minister and a troubadour. Kevin Lewis is the defense attaché — he's also Angela's right-hand man in the PTCU. Denise is his wife, and she's in charge of the A-C daycare, which their children — Raymond and Rachel also use. Doreen Coleman-Weisman is the only trained diplomat and the child of A-C traitors. Dr. Tito Hernandez is the embassy doctor and former cage fighter.

…A-C Defense and headed up by Tim Crawford. Lorraine, one of the Dazzlers, is married to Joe Billings. Their son, Ross, is a hybrid. Claudia, another Dazzler, is married to Randy Muir, and their son, Sean, is also a hybrid. Serene Dwyer, an imageer (and troubadour) and head of Imageering, is married to Brian Dwyer, an astronaut. Patrick is their hybrid son. Matt Hughes, Chip Walker, and Jerry Tucker are the rest of the team.
Friends and allies include…
…Hacker International, a small group of really smart hackers who knew Kitty way back when. Chernobog is with them now. Olga and Adriana, Olga's granddaughter, are with the Romanian Embassy. Mr. Joel Oliver is a reporter who has become the go-to guy for other reporters. Bruce Jenkins is another reporter who became friendly.
The pets are…
…a combination of those from Kitty's childhood home, the peregrines sent as a gift by King Alexander of Alpha-Centauri, and the Poofs. Dudley the Great Dane, Duke the Labrador, Dottie is the dalmatian, Duchess is the pit bull, and the cats Sugarfoot, Candy, and Kane are the pets from Kitty's childhood.
The twelve mated-pairs of peregrines are bred to protect A-C royals while the Poofs seem to be sweet, cuddly puffballs. Who go way large and in charge with scary teeth who eat anything. Bruno is one of the peregrines who protect Kitty. The Poofs are actually Black Hole Universe animals brought by Algar. Harlie is Jeff's Poof while Poofikins is Kitty's. Fluffy is Chuck's Poof. Tenley is Queen Victoria's Poof. Mous-Mous is Jamie's Poof.
Planet Beta Eight is…
…the VERY colorful planet where our beamed-up friends end up. Reaching the top of the All-Seeing Mountain, the absolute center of the planet and where all the color swirls meet, is a religious experience for the inhabitants of Beta Eight. It also contains the All-Seeing Eye. Seems our core cast are considered gods there: Kitty is Shealla, Queen of the Gods gives out names; Jeff is Leoalla, her mate and King of the Gods; Chuckie is Alcalla, the God of Wisdom; Binalla is Christopher; Lorraine, Claudia, and Serene are the Muses of Knowledge; the Venida are special Gods of Benny's clan, a.k.a., Rahmi and Rhee; and, the Nihalani are Jerry, Chip, Randy, Matt, and Tim.
Zenoca is the evil god, LaRue Demorte, who travels with the glittering Jewel, a Z'porrah power cube.

…deserts to which one group of Leanora, the outcasts, have been forced. They are humanoid mutelidae, rodent-like creatures, who appear to rule on Beta Eight, and who are spread out into different lands. These outcasts are led by King Benny, Clan Leader of Musgraff. Nanda, Skunky, Grover, Brown, and some others are Benny's advisors. Patrina is the little girl who gets scared…and lost along with Pretty Girl. Ginger is the catapult cat, an oceller, whose breed is used as a weapon. Wilbur is the chocho (pig-dog) Kitty names.

…the ultimate enemy (they look like dino-birds) and hate all the Ancients and anyone with Ancient DNA. In other words, everyone not them. K'tano, Ast'ria, and Riol are on the command ship.

Former Senator Vincent Armstrong is the president of the United States. Gov. Gideon Cleary had been their opponent during the presidential race in Alien Collective , running with a man whom he knew had been cloned. Stephanie Valentino is Jeff and Christopher's niece. And a traitor to the A-Cs.
Cliff Goodman, the man Chuck had thought was his best friend, is the Mastermind, the most evil man in the world.
A-Cs are Alpha-Centaurions exiled to Earth for their religious beliefs. Troubadours can influence people into doing things and they can lie. Imageers can change images. Empaths can tell what someone is feeling and thinking, to an extent. King Alexander rules Alpha Centauri; Councilor Leonidas is his advisor. Algar is a powerful Black Hole Universe "elf" being pursued for destroying an entire solar system; he's also the Father of the Gods.
Beta Twelve women are Amazonian shapeshifters, Free Women, with Ancient DNA. Other Me was the other universe Kitty from Universal Alien , 10. Bosthoon are the oxen of Beta Eight and look like brontosauri.
The Ancients are probably our creators.

Sadly I did not enjoy this book that much. I normally adore Kitty and all of her antics. However this book seemed REALLY wordy. I felt there was more description of things, people and events; both past and present, than actual action. I know at this point there are 10 previous books, but the need to rehash every major plot point that has happened to this moment is too time consuming. The book read a bit like a Cliff's Notes for the entire series to date. That alone caused me to get distracted when reading.
Another issue that gets me every time is Kitty the mother. Once again Kitty's interaction with her daughter is extremely limited. As a mother myself I would like to read some of the ho-hum bits of Kitty's life. I would like to actually see her play mom not skim past those parts. Especially when we get every other scene in extreme detail. Jamie is always just not there, I know Kitty is a working mom but honestly her character seems to put Everything else ahead of her daughter. I understand that she loves her, we have brief glimpses and a general feel but mostly Jamie just feels like an after thought most of the time. In this book in particular, she thinks of sex with her husband far more often than she worries about her daughter's safety. This really makes me sad.
But yes saving the world and all that, duty calls. So as far as the adventure part of this book, I just didn't really get hooked. Seemed there was more detailed descriptions and back story than there was legitimate action. Kitty is fabulous at figuring out the situation and once again steps up, Hooray. It just felt rather rushed at the end and not that engaging. =(

The characters are one dimensional but that may be due to the serialization (characters developed in prior novels). There were a lot of grammatical errors as well. Well here we see Kitty Katt back with a bang! Book eleven in this series sees our snarky heroine back from another dimension to her husband Jeff and daughter Jamie but it's all business as usual. So what if she has to contend with the idea of her doppelgänger taking her place and apparently doing a better job of being a mother! So what if as Vice President Jeff really needs to get straight back to work. Kitty hasn't been idle whilst away and oh yes she has finally worked out just who the infamous Mastermind is and it's time to get their team up to speed. Get everyone together and debrief, sounds so easy doesn't it? Well it would be if only they didn't get caught in some sort of transporter beam and then Kitty finds herself stranded on an alien planet but where are Jeff and Jamie? Finding them is Kitty's priority but there's just that little thing called survival to cope with first oh and did I mention Kitty has landed right in the middle of the most ginormous civil war you could possibly imagine?
I have to start by saying this is a series best read in order as it keeps building and I'm not really sure this worked very well as a standalone. These characters have been on quite a journey one way or another and lots has happened and indeed there are a lot of creatures that have already been introduced . Well stand by because Ms Koch hasn't ran out of ideas yet and her imagination just got cranked up yet again! Oh yes incredible creatures are just the tip of the iceberg as this story begins and then it's wham back to Kitty's usual chaotic life as she discovers just why they have been snatched ( beam me up Scotty) and tries to make sense of it.
I think it fair to say Ms Koch is literary Marmite, you love her or hate her. Her heroine Kitty Katt is mouthy, full of snarky comments and quite incapable of tact. Constantly throwing witticisms around and uncaring that many might be offended but for some strange reason everyone just loves her! She has a gorgeous alien husband but I missed the chemistry they shared in earlier books if honest. This almost felt like two separate stories as the first half felt completely different to the latter chapters. Still those who enjoy Kitty's unique dialogue will find lots to smile at and the artwork is fabulous . I do think this book mentions so much that has previously happened that it really needs to be read in order but if you are a fan then you will no doubt be delighted with this offering .

Honestly, how can I possibly write a review? SO much is going on, so many cool lines. Kick-ass stuff and you know, the usual stuff. This is book 11 after all. Omg, book 11?! When did that happen? I still remember when I read book 1, awww, the memories.
This book mostly took place off planet, and I loved that. It felt refreshing you know. But then the last one was cool too since it mostly took place in a parallel universe...anyway. Yes most of the gang gets transported to an alien planet. Everyone scattered in different directions. Kitty has Christopher and Chuckie with her, but the rest? Her daughter? Jeff? Everyone? Well she has to find them all and save the day. Oh not to mention figure out why they are there.
Yay alien planet!!! It was one weird and colorful planet. Lots of weird ..things lived there too. "Birds" "other lifeforms" "flying snakes" oh you just have to read it to get it. Most were sentient, and has a bronze age society. Seriously, freaky things lives in that part of the galaxy! And trust me, freakier things show up at the end.
There is running, fighting, building friendships, naming things (Kitty you ;), getting to see the planet and saving the day. Saving the day in a big time at the end.
I took a peak at the next book too at the end, I had to after that....thing...was said ;) Looks to be interesting.

Surprise surprise
Just when Kitty returns from the alternative Bizzaro universe to deal with the mastermind threat and you are expecting that, whammo she, Jeff, Christopher, Charles and a handful of others are transported to a new planet in the Alpha Centauri system. This amazing and unexpected turn of events brings the AC's peoples and neighbors back into play. Dangers, mayhem, mind control and rock music fly as Kitty figures out what's happening. Lots of fun and action.
This was a great idea as both this and the prior book broke everyone out of the roles that they had been stuck in as they became more entrenched moving up the power ladder. With Jeff as Vice President the only next step would be as President. Somehow that seems like a dead end although with Gini Koch's great imagination, she would think of something. And she did! First Kitty switches places with herself in a parallel universe in book 10 Universal Alien. And now in this book, Alien Separation Kitty and the gang are flung into a potential war and invasion situation. Absolutely great. If you are new to this series, you should really start with book one and read them in order to follow all the characters and their adventures. A fun series.

This is yet another awesome addition to a great series.
Kitty has barely recovered from her trip to an alternate universe when she and several of her friends are zapped to an unfamiliar alien planet.
And the creatures they encounter there are so cool!
I loved the new planet that's introduced in this book, and the new animals and other creatures Kitty encounters there. Gini Koch manages to describe this world and its inhabitants so vividly I could easily picture it all. (I even suspect she thought of me when creating this world: pig-like creatures!)
There's lots going on: both on this new planet, as in other places. With all the things happening and with the introduction of new characters, I had to keep paying attention to keep up with the story. There was lots of action, funny situations, suspense, and Kitty saving the day.
I will say again: if you haven't started on this series yet, get reading! I for one am already looking forward to the next book, because I can't get enough of Kitty. This book (and series) is fun, funny, action-packed and more than entertaining!

I was excited to receive a copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I had recently read Universal Alien (from the library)and felt I was up to date and ready to go. However, like I mention in my review of Universal Alien, there are so many characters that I was thrown at times trying to remember what role they played, references to former missions also left me blank.
Kitty and a variety of pals get transported to an alien world and ended up separated in various groups and try to find each other and figure out why they were transported there. There is a tremendous amount of world building that, while creative, became tedious. So tedious that this was almost a DNF for me and would have been if I hadn't read the previous 10 and had a good idea things would pick up. The action didn't really start until about 44% and then it was business as usual.
I definitely wouldn't recommend this book to people who haven't read the previous books because, as I mentioned, I've read them all and still get confused. For fans, I'd say stick with it, it does pick up.

Kitty Katt and some of her family and friends hardly have time to catch their breath after returning from that fascinating alternate universe in the last book when they're zapped away into the Alpha Centauri system. Beta Eight is a strange planet; its territories are colorful and spread out in a spiral shape. (I really needed a map and color chart.) And then there are new aliens and critters--oh, and more clones--and I found it harder to keep track of them all in this book. I may have to read it again! And changing characters--are they good or bad now?--also complicate matters, but pay attention and you'll enjoy the adventure. And I so love Gini Koch's twists on cliches and her word play and Kitty Katt's enthusiasm for dealing with villains and naming her new discoveries...
Note: I'd love to see Koch's notes and records! And I think that a Kitty Katt panel at a science fiction con would be fun.

Visiting new alien planets this summer? Well, if you are, just make sure to ask Kitty to tag along!!! Alien Separation is a combination of funky, kooky goodness all wrapped in one super read that will transport you. Literally!!! The picture Koch paints is a world rich in character and the unusual. Kitty continues to charm me as the "Alien Novels" progress. This is the perfect read for lovers of badassery. Alien Separation is jam packed with action,and plenty of pulling trigger moments to keep you turning pages. Gini Koch could not have said it better....may we never be separated.

This one was really great, and largely a return to the more sci-fi action form of the earliest books in the series. It shook off the politics of D.C., which are starting to feel stale, and brought us into a really cool new alien world with fantastic alien characters.
Plus, it was fascinating to see what Algar gets up to.
As an added bonus, because we were in a new environment and outside the Earth rule-set, we got to shake off the ridiculous stress on hierarchy and such that have been such a drag with Reader and Crawford. I'm so tired of it, and it makes both of them seem so petty and petulant. Especially because ffs Jeff unquestionably outranks them now, as the VP.
I'm worried about Chuckie, glad to see Christopher become more of a 3-dimensional person (rather than the Master of Sulky Looks and Snide Remarks), interested to see if the mind reading continues when they're home.
Two things didn't happen, though, that I feel like I've been waiting for, for ages. They aren't spoilers, so I'm going to mention them here.
1 - Kitty's DNA is clearly exceptional, and I cannot believe that Tito hasn't realized that and started testing. Look, Mephistopheles believed they could integrate, way back in the first book. That already makes her the only other being we know of - besides Yates, who everyone is studying like mad because his DNA is exceptional - that could integrate with Mephistopheles. Furthermore, no other human character has mutated as she has. And no other character that we know of has developed random additional abilities when they get super enraged. Like, we've seen her use telekinesis (in Paris) and teleport (more than one time). And does any other A-C get more power as they get enraged? There's clearly something special going on with her mutation, and I have to think that if and when the bad guys realize it, they're going to drop the kill order on Kitty and start trying to grab her as a lab rat. Further, I worry the government will do the same - Kitty seems to be a gold mine for anyone trying to study how to turn a normal human into a supersoldier with none of the drug-addicted downside of Surcenthumaine.
2 - Christopher needs a job. A real job, because he's so wasted right now. And he seems to be particularly gifted at helping hybrids (or mutations like Kitty) learn to deal with their unique abilities. This will become more of a big deal, as our current crop of hybrid kiddos grow up. Why not put him in charge of that?
Oh, and I'm also going to mention the second development in this book that I wasn't thrilled about (the first one being the bit in spoiler tags above)... Ugh.

Al principio me desconcertó un poco: por fin se sabe quién es la "mente maestra" detrás de todos los problemas que amenazan a los A-C y, especialmente, a Chuckie, y en lugar de "el gran efrentamiento" todos los protas son arrastrados a Alfa Centaury, a un planeta menor en donde se cruzarán todas las fuerzas de ese sistema solar con una guerra civil interplanetaria a punto de estallar.
Por si no tuvieramos bastante, también encontrarán un par de clones de antiguos enemigos que se sienten solos y abandonados y un montón de criaturas que, en su mayoría, creen que son dioses, mientras tratan de encontrar a sus amigos, a su hija e impedir que les maten y que estalle una guerra.
O como diría Kitty, rutina.
Por si no tuvieramos bastante, también encontrarán un par de clones de antiguos enemigos que se sienten solos y abandonados y un montón de criaturas que, en su mayoría, creen que son dioses, mientras tratan de encontrar a sus amigos, a su hija e impedir que les maten y que estalle una guerra.

Another amazing addition to my favorite book series!! Alien Separation started off with everything being thrown into chaos as it normally is for Kitty and the gang, so much new info, new characters and settings were being tossed around that it took me a while to get into this book but as always everything in Gini Koch's novels grew on me and I was quickly back on course. As per usual I cannot wait to see what comes next for the AC gang! I'd be more than happy for Gini to write a new 'Alien' book every 6 months for the rest of my life, the way she has been for years, because they are just that good!!

I love this series! This is my 3rd… 4th…, maybe 5th reread of the series, and now that the long awaited Aliens Like Us is on the horizon, I’ll probably start the series all over again when we get closer to the release date.
Since this is a good chunk of the way into the series I don’t want to spoil anyone, but sufficed to say, this is one of my favourite storylines in the series. The characters are tested, have to survive some staggering encounters, and do it with grit, a little grace, and a lot of humour. So good, I’ve bought the ebooks as well as the paperbacks over the years. Now if only the audiobooks were available 😁

This author keeps on surprising me, in the very best way. When she should zig, she zags. It pays just to push the suspend button and let these books carry you away. So creative. Funny. Lots of actions. And that always reliable simmering romance of Jeff and Kitty in the background.
