With the exception of Xulhu, this is the first time that stories of Tobias Reckermann are properly translated and published into English. The chapbook is a perfect introduction into the diverse work of the German Weird fiction author. The stories range from slow solemn ones as to a pure horrortrip and a vacation into Reckermanns famous city of Gotheim. It easily combines topics of politics, power, self-exploration, the occult and cosmic horror through a lense of the (New) Weird.. As Reckermann is one of the few serious authors and editors of German Weird Fiction, this is a must read for anyone interested in international weird fiction with a touch of the surreal. This is especially true as translator Amy Hammack Turner does an excellent job of capturing the unique style of the original. A clear recommendation that asks for more translations of Reckermann’s works.
