Great memoir that essentially follows the growth of women’s hockey. I especially loved her early childhood experiences with the sport. If she said “pun intended” one more time I thought I’d lose it.
I don't typically give memoirs a rating, but for Kendall, I had to!
After watching the USA hockey team this Olympics, I became obsessed with the PWHL. I watched the documentary, I dove into learning about the teams, picked the team I will "root" for (I'm honestly rooting for them all because GO WOMEN's SPORTS), and followed some of my favorite players on social media. Though Kendall isn't on "my" team, I still wanted to learn more about her. When I saw she wrote a book, I immediately wanted it! I found the audiobook on Spotify and dove in. Love that she narrated it herself.
Learning about how she and others started the league was amazing, but I really enjoyed learning more about her and how she fell in love with hockey.
Kendall is a badass! I hope this book starts being sold other places than just the PWHL website so that more people can read this story! I deff recommend, and I hope aspiring pro-athletes read it!
Absolutely loved hearing the author narrate the audiobook! The book explains how Kendall never wavered from her values and what she felt was right. I appreciated how she brought up her stories of adversity especially as a woman in athletics.
5 ⭐️ I don’t read nonfiction often but I loved Kendall Coyne’s story during the olympics and I wanted to read more. I honestly loved this so much. So inspiring and so exciting.
“To date, no women’s professional hockey league exists that gives women the opportunity to make a living playing the game.” Listening to this in a post-PWHL world is actually crazy!
