Part Two of the Jaxon Hawke series. Jaxon and Scarlet have just spent a week of pure bliss together, only for it to be ruined by the unexpected arrival of Jaxon's wife. Will they beat the odds of everything that's going against them, or will their insecurities be their biggest hurdle to jump....
I Loved, Loved, Loved the Callen boys duo! "Ragdolls and Riches" hooked me, but the second book sadly left me in the lurch with a disintegrated plot. And, now, "The Jaxon Hawke Series" has rocked my bookshelf into a serious book hangover! Lucy needs to get busy writing ASAP because I NEED more books!!!!
Characters
Be forewarned that you'll be wanting to turn an entire liquor isle over atop Jaxon's head.
But, that's just another thing I love about Lucy's characters....They're never these stereotypical perfectly constructed unbelievable illusions of grander, but nor are they the opposite spectrum of TSTL annoying dizzies that you want to shake some reality into. They're flawed. They make mistakes. They're human. They're the types of characters you'd be friends, lovers, or enemies with in real life.
." I want to make fun of your dropping tits as they drag along the floor..."
^ Only you, Lucy, could make this a damn swoony moment!! Lmao
The Plot
You'll seethe with anger, get a little misty eyed, and then swoon like a schoolgirl. It's an excellent conclusion to the romance in book one.
The focus here is Scarlet and Jaxon's relationship and whether it can survive mistrust & tit for tat anger lashes. Very well done!
However, there are some secondary plot points, and IMHO they needed a little more wrapping up.
There's a little corporate espionage subplot. I'd have liked a little more conclusion - what happened to the asshat? Some revenge by Scarlet for what he did to her maybe? The asshat has an exit, but it's very sparse in detail.
The wife was also kind of left in the dust. NOTE TO AUTHOR: I'm a big believer that if a character is introduced, then they always need an exit, too. Readers, no matter how small the role, will get pissy when they have to wonder about the who, what, why, and how of a character once the series is concluded.
Bottom Line
If you're all about the flowery romance and characters that always say and do the ideal thing at the ideal time, then this may not be for you.
The characters, particularly the male MC, make mistakes and say hurtful things before they get to the HEA. I've read plenty of characters where an author had taken them too far dark and left zero room for redemption. This isn't the case here; Lucy took Jaxon to the edge but brought him back to a loveable character. I'm one that believes happiness and love are hard to appreciate without it knowing struggle first. So, it was perfect in my book:)
Much like the first book in the Jaxon Hawke series I picked up this book and didn't put it down until it was finished. A very good sequel to Teach Me. The characters are very likeable and I've got to admit, I shed a tear or two reading this but also laughed at Kat,chat girl is gold! very good books. I'd recommend them
I have to say i really enjoyed the main characters in these books. The author writes them in a way that you instantly click with them and grow to love them. I love the background of the male lead and how everything all came out and how he couldnt bear to be without the lead female. Such a lovely ending for them
I wish there was more for Scarlett & Jaxon's story. I felt like my heart was breaking so much if this book that I don't feel like I got enough of the love I needed to get over it. Overall, I loved their story...but I'm demanding more.
You know when a book is good because you stay awake until 3am just to finish it! I've really enjoyed reading about Jaxon and Scarlett's journey and was thrilled with the ending. Great stuff.
