Kill to Love is for fans of dark romantic comedies like "Lights Out," and "Butcher and Blackbird."
Good girl Delphine has waited all her life to find her Soulmate, only to find out that he is a... notorious serial killer.
Delphine De Astor has never cried. She doesn't feel much of anything and has hidden her lack of emotion all her life for fear of being outed as Soulless – evil and unlovable.
Unfortunately, Delphine has also never felt her heart search for her Soulmate. Deemed Soulless, she is thrown into an Execution Battle where she must fight to the death against other Soulless for ten days (with advertisement breaks for stain remover). Pant-less, and armed with only sunscreen, Delphine runs into cannibals, psychopaths who are probably just Gemini’s, incestuous lovers, a madman in a pink sequined crop top and…Dig Graves.
Dig is a notorious, dark haired serial killer who hides his eyes behind heart shaped sunglasses. Long ago he had tried to kidnap Delphine and tenaciously hunts her down in the Battle.
And when they meet? Delphine’s heart finally beats.
Penny Sunday is an Australian author who is obsessed with writing fun romance stories. When reading she loves dog-earing pages (and loves her actual dog), is seriously into peanut sauce, tiramisu, folding laundry and regularly stocks her go-bag for any possible impending apocalypse. She keeps all her dark-haired men in books, locked up in the cupboard right where they belong.
This was absurd and chaotic, with a fun and unique concept. I was expecting to love it a lot more than I actually did.. There's nothing I love more than an unhinged book, but I didn't connect with Delphine, which lessened my enjoyment..
Everyone has a soulmate, but if you don't, you're Soulless, evil and unloved. They are imprisoned and once a year they battle to the death for ten days, cameras are filming and everything is allowed.. Delphine didn't found her soulmate, so she enters the game, but Dig Graves has been waiting seven years for her and he's not letting her escape this time.. She tries to run, he always finds her. There's a connection there and just maybe there's more to him than she though..
I really liked Dig, he was a great character, unhinged, with scars and struggles. I loved how obsessed he was and how he did everything to protect her. He might be a notorious killer, but he was so sweet. Delphine was always different, she was unhinged and a little strange and she did have her moments, but I just couldn't connect to her.. I'm someone whose mood of the book heavily relies on the characters, so me not connecting with her impacted my enjoyment.. I really tried, but I kept being annoyed by her, instead of entertained..
I did enjoy the battles and we encountered some really strange characters, which was fun. Such a colourful bunch.. The spicy scenes were okay, a little underwhelming or maybe I was expecting more, I don't know. I did enjoy the sunglasses, though.. They were a good match, all things considered.
I think I generally expected more, more craziness, more fun, more emotional depth.. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't enough. I needed more. The pace was a little inconsistent and dialogue a little clipped at times, which I personally didn't like. Also, while some scenes were funny, there were also some that simply didn't land for me.
I did love the final scene in the battle, that was a winner!! That scene after the battle, I wasn't expecting it to take that specific turn, but I'm not surprised.. He got exactly what he deserved.
Overall, I think this was a great debut! I'll absolutely read more of her books.

Deemed Soulless, Delphine is thrown into a brutal, televised Execution Battle where she finally feels her heart beat upon meeting Dig Graves, the serial killer who once hunted her. Their encounter upends everything she’s been condemned to die for.
Hunger Games meets The Never King. I was so intrigued by the concept of this book. I will always say hell yeah to reading an unhinged book. But I felt like the writing style was letting down the reading experience. Especially during dialogue. Often it was one worded back and forth responses between Delphine and Dig Graves.
I did enjoy the second half the book more than the first half. The spicy scenes were elite. We finally saw some character development behind Dig which peaked m interest again. I appreciate the risks taken to write a book that pushes boundaries and blurs the lines of romance. I felt a little disconnected from the character development while reading.
I’m sure the unhinged girls would love this, but it was a little too derailed for me.

Thank you @theberryagency for the opportunity to review this book.
Well, never mind. I made it to the 13th chapter (about 31%) and had to call it quits. I don’t even know wtf I just read.
I was so excited for this book and have been waiting months to read it, so this review pains me deeply. I also hate throwing around AI accusations left and right, but there’s no way an actual person wrote this, right?
I was getting whiplash from the main characters constantly changing personalities. Everything felt disjointed and the pacing was weird. The FMC had way too many moments that felt cringey and juvenile. And the dialogue??? Nobody talks like that! 🙄
Of what I read, this feels like it had no clue what type of book it wanted to be. I thought the premise was super interesting, but unfortunately the execution fell flat. I disappointing 1 star from me.
What a ride! I was cackling reading this book, stayed up till midnight to finish it because I could not put it down. If you love rom-com-dark unaliver romances. If you loved Lights Out and Butcher & Blackbird kind of vibes, then I feel like you will enjoy this book.
He falls first and HARD! Literally unalives everyone for her. She says jump, he says how high, kind of vibes.
Also, the lore of this world was SO unique! 🌶️🌶️🌶️
This was honestly so unhinged and I loved it. I cackled at Delphine's seemingly clueless/heartless encounters and sighed at Dig's obsessive deranged yet sweet gestures.
-1 star for Del constantly trying to get away from Dig while she 100% would have been safer with him. Stay with your psycho, girlllllllll
"I'm not everyone's cup of tea." "Don't be tea." His lips pressed against my ear. "Be petrol. Set the world on fire."
THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN. Now listen, this is not going to be everyone's liking - it's trashy, bat shit insane, reads like a wattpad fan fic and has stupid humour!! But luckily for me that's my exact taste in books.
I genuinely messaged all my group chats talking about the unhinged masterpiece I was reading and absolutely BRAGGING about the fact it was an arc and they were missing out.
Was it a perfect literary masterpiece? No. WAS IT A GREAT TIME?! Absolutely. I snort laughed, out loud! A lot!
My absolute favourite thing about this book was the dialogue. The prim, proper vernacular paired with the most despicable acts and depraved humans was chefs kiss.
Also, CONSENT IS SO HOT!!! The way consent was approached throughout the story was both hilarious and comforting.
I genuinely fear I will never read another dark rom-com that satisfied me in the way this did. I will be chasing this high for the rest of my life.
Thank you to the Berry Agency for the arc of this book and to Penny Sunday for whatever exists in her brain that created this.
I honestly cannot tell you a thing about this book except it was a wild ride i did not want to get off of. I have never laughed so much, I was full cackling at some points at just the audacity of these characters. Delphine and Digs are brilliant and I want to live in this world forever.
"Morals have aesthetic criteria. You kill a cockroach, you're a hero. You kill a butterfly, you're evil. Your version of 'good' is different to others. And to me Princess? You're fucking perfect."
Thankyou Book Sirens & Penny Sunday for this ARC opportunity! 🫶🏻
This book looked at the trigger warnings, winked, then cannonballed straight into the deep end.💥 If you treat it like a polite, well behaved romance, you will have a bad time. If you strap in and let the chaos drive, it becomes an absolute fever dream in the best way. It was Fated Mates colliding headfirst with The Purge and I was here for it. 😝
Does the story flow smoothly? Not even a little. Does that matter? Weirdly, no. The unhinged pacing actually becomes part of the charm. 😌 It feels like the book is vibrating at a slightly different frequency than reality. Penny really swung for the fences with this one and I respect the boldness so much.🙌🏻
👠 Delphine is such a bizarre, fascinating FMC. Her whole emotionless, slightly offbeat vibe should not work and yet I adored her. She had me laughing more than once, and honestly, her detached energy felt a little too relatable at times.
🔪 Dig Graves. He is psychotic but soft in all the right ways. Full golden retriever energy but could also slit your throat. Loved the sunglasses and the way he cares for Delphine was genuinely sweet, especially in a story that otherwise feels like it is foaming at the mouth.
Their banter? Fantastic. The chemistry is this wild mix of prim and proper colliding with absolute derangement, and somehow it works.❤️🔥 I loved the underlying story of the world with the Soulmates and the Soulless. Beneath all the madness there is a genuinely interesting concept, some shocking twists, and a message that actually lands. 👏🏻
This book is the kind of ride that makes you say “I want to get off” while actively tightening your seatbelt. You will question everything, including your own taste, but you will not be bored for a single second. I truly do not think there is another romance out there doing whatever this book just did. ❤️❤️
A dark romcom, and I mean dark. There's lots of murder, mayhem, and questionable cooking choices. A fight to survive in a death game. But in a funny way. This had me laughing out loud whilst reading it.
If you like humour with your dark books, and aren't afraid or a little blood and gore, this is the book for you! 🔪
I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and I'm leaving a written review because more people NEED to read this book is bloody brilliant and a good time!!
Kill To Love is a twisted dystopian dark comedy romance with many laugh out loud moments as well as spice and romance!
Thank you Netgalley for an early copy of this book!
I was originally going to dnf this book (I was in a slump) but I’m glad I kept going because it was exactly the book I needed. It was fun, chaotic and just such a great time! The battle royale aspect of this book had me hooked, I couldn’t not get enough of it!
This book is by far everything I’ve ever wanted in a dark rom com. The banter was absolutely hilarious and the dialogue between Delphine and every other character was to die for. She was so strong willed and completely oblivious to everything that was going on, and everytime I read a “my sweet Aunty Beatrice just died” line I was done for. The way that was her strategy and plan to avoid practically everything was way too funny.
Dig is such an amazing, supportive character for his princess too. I love that he always asked her for consent, knowing it’s a big thing because of what his father did to several other women. Dig is so innocent throughout this entire book and you can tell that all he wants is to be loved after being abandoned his whole life. Yes he is a psychotic killer, but everyone needs a hobby. (I thought this scene was also hilarious). His love for Delph and his persistence for 7 years, and the way he speaks about her shows his undeniable love for her.
I also loved the concept of Soulless and Soulmates and how both Dig and Delphine proved that at the end of the day they’re all just people and showed how there were so many other innocent people out there who needed to be loved but had a Soulless label slapped on them. The fact that Delphine despite being labelled “Soulless” at the time could also see the amount of poor behaviour being acted on such innocent souls shows that despite being labelled “Soulless” she still could differentiate between the good and the bad. Similarly to the line of “aunty Beatrice just died” and then the person bringing harm would feel remorse because they’d all known family who had died at some point. Overall, the book showed the message that not everyone is Soulless and many of the innocent people did deserve to find love.
I’ve never really had a thing for dark rom coms but this book hit every point perfectly. Hilarious banter and dark satire. Check. A plot where I had no idea what was going to happen next. Check. A strong FMC who could hold her own ground. Check. And a MMC who had so much love for her and still understood consent. Check. This wasn’t a literary masterpiece but it hit every nail on the head for me that I expect in a dark rom com, and this is definitely one of the best I’ve read.
Thankyou Berryagency for giving me the opportunity to review this book! And I hope to read more amazing books to come by Penny Sunday!!
Delphine De Astor has never felt emotions or experienced love, and being labeled Soulless puts her in a deadly ten day Execution Battle. Armed only with sunscreen and facing bizarre and dangerous foes, she encounters Dig Graves, a darkly infamous serial killer who has long hunted her. When they finally meet, something unexpected happens, Delphine’s heart starts to beat and she feels alive for the first time.
I. Devoured. This. Book.... And wow 😳 it’s like a deadly rom com mixed with a battle royal and dystopia all in one 😅 Delphine is absolutely wild thinking so far outside the box I was laughing one second and wanting to throttle her the next 🤯 She’s pure Harley Quinn energy and Dig is basically her Joker orbiting her chaos 😈💥
And Dig 😍🥹 I just can’t even. His devotion is insane and the way he tracks Delphine no matter what is amazing 👀❤️ He’s patient and unhinged and somehow makes them the perfect chaotic couple 🔥💫 I loved every second of their madness 😂💖
The idea alone, that your heart doesn't start until you meet your soulmate was so refreshing. Something definitely new and exciting to read about. If you want a book on some comedy mayhem, pick this up immediately!

Rating: 4/5 stars
Delphine De Astor lives in a society where you need to find your Soulmate by the age of twenty-five. When she’s deemed Soulless and thrown into the annual Execution Battle, she thinks all is lost…until she meets killer (and her former attempted kidnapper) Dig Graves, and her heart starts to beat.
This was such a fun and entertaining and slightly unhinged read, and I think fans of dark rom-coms (think BUTCHER AND BLACKBIRD) will really enjoy it! The author’s note at the beginning says the book doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that’s definitely true—but it does grapple with some really nuanced concepts, like what it actually means to be a “good” person, and I loved the dichotomy between off-the-wall insanity and thought-provoking seriousness.
This book is also genuinely funny, and I loved the banter and sometimes-absurd back and forth between Delphine and the characters around her. Dig also makes for a great dark hero, and there are definitely a few swoony lines. All in all, this is a super fun debut, and if you enjoy this genre I think you’ll enjoy this read!
CW: All kinds of murder/blood/gore/violence; mentions of pedophilia, cannibalism, and incest
I went into this expecting dark romance. I did not expect cannibals, an execution battle arena, and a serial killer soulmate situation… but here we are.
This book is chaotic in a way that’s oddly compelling. The premise is bold and genuinely different. an arena-style “Execution Battle,” dark humour woven through violent stakes, and a heroine (Delphine) who struggles to feel much of anything. Then there’s Dig , infamous, dangerous, and somehow positioned as her soulmate. It’s twisted. It’s weird. It’s memorable.
The pacing is fast and the concept definitely stands out. I appreciated how unapologetically strange it was. It doesn’t try to be a typical dark romance, and that originality is a strength.
Where it lost me a bit was the emotional depth. I wanted more development between the leads, more internal conflict, more vulnerability, more moments that made the shift from danger to devotion feel earned. At times, the chaos overshadowed the connection.
Overall, this was an entertaining, genre-bending read that I’m glad I picked up. It didn’t completely hit emotionally for me, but it absolutely committed to its wild premise and I respect that.
If you love: 🖤 Dark romantic comedy 🗡️ Morally grey chaos 🔥 Fast-paced, unhinged vibes
Okay let me start you off with some of my favorite lines from this book
💚"Now I have your germs. 'I've had your cunt in my mouth'."
💙 "'I want an audition to you sucking my cock.' He paused and pulled his fingers from out of my mouth. I'm sorry...do you want to suck my cock? 'Put your fingers back in my mouth!"
🧡 "He couldn't die. Not yet. He still had three months left on his gym membership."
I feel like this should sell you on its own but this book had lots of good plot, SO much good banter, spice, i honestly don't know what else I could want. This book had everything I would want in a romcom. Dig is a super supportive king and calling her princess didnt make me cringe!! Del is unhinged but i was super down for it. Honestly if you enjoy unhinged, this will do it for you I am sure. Spice in this book was also top notch, 10 out of 10 for me. 🌶 I enjoyed all the side characters as well and the second half of the book didn't disappoint!!
This book was pure unadulterated, unhinged chaos in all the best ways!
I absolutely loved Delphine. She was dry and sarcastic and entirely nonchalant with it. I snort laughed at almost every single thing she did or said. And the way Dig was completely head over heels for her exactly how she was made me love him even more.
Also, we LOVE a consent king, and Dig Graves certainly was! It was an aspect I wasn’t expecting but absolutely LOVED 🌶️
The plot line for this book was also really cool, I loved the concept and how the fated mates trope worked without being set in a “fantasy” world. I also did NOT see the little plot twist coming and the gasp that ripped out of me was crazy!
I really enjoyed this book and if you’re looking for a silly little fun time, a boat load of humour and a guy that would do ANYTHING (including setting skin care bundle traps) to get his girl, then this book is for you!
Kill to Love by Penny Sunday is a chaotic, messy & hilarious dark rom-com & it just kept on giving 🤌🏽
It was dark, violent & quirky af. The banter was top notch & the spice was spicing 🌶️
It took me a second to ‘get it’ but once I did I enjoyed the shit outta this book. This was an adventure & I really enjoyed this take on fated mates. It was giving dystopian Max Max vibes with a modern twist. The characters were chaotic, unhinged & incredibly endearing ♥️
This was a 5 ⭐️ read for me.
Thank you to the author & The Berry Agency for the opportunity to read & review this ARC ♥️
I received this book as an ARC from the Berry Agency.
This book was so funny. I was laughing all the way through. I did have a guess of why the person did what they did and I was correct (but not for the additional reason). I absolutely love Dig, he can do no wrong. I basically read this in one sitting (if you exclude having dinner and all that). I did not want to put it down. I needed to know what was going to happen next. I will definitely be reading more by this author
I really enjoyed this book. And I’m a here for the vibes kinda girl. But for me this honesty was more than just good vibes. But for pennys first book she really did well.
It had a decent plot. World building was easy to follow. Couple of twists and a lot of freaking laughs. Few snort laughs that caught me by surprise with some pretty original lines.
Absolutely chaotic in the most questionable and satisfyingly way!
Delphine a soulless woman in the world of soulmates and other soulless. The soulless are considered bad, and in the world of soulmates their is a person for everyone except the soulless. Someone from her past stalks her and is obsessed with her, Dig graves, What does he want? in this world of soulless and soulmates.
the banter and the very chaotic comedic moments were definitely my favourite and actually made me laugh, it also kept me locked in and kept me reading. The writing at some parts could be better and the chapters summed up nicer but also left me hanging so I would want to read more of it.
I for sure recommend this read if you are a fan of chaotic characters and a action based rom com with comedic dark moments. If you also a fan of popular dark rom coms like butcher and blackbird or Lights out yeah it will for sure scratch that itch.
Would knaw through a brick wall for Dig. NGL anything, I'll do it.
4.75 rounded up!! 👏👏👏
LMAOOOOO THIS WAS EVERYTHING!
I love when books just get me. They get me hooked, they get me with the little jokes the banter??? the weird chemistry lool the unique world building which tbh was such a great idea! The jokes, the way I found myself laughing & being annoyed with Delphine but thst was the point!!! Absolutely loved this 🤣🤣🤣
Would walk over hot coals for Dig too. Add that to the list.
I didn’t know what to hope for with this book, but woooww it was incredible! The story is really original almost as much as the characters were. I really loved it!
I would recommend it to anyone to be honest, it was a surprising find for me.
Great book, funny, sarcastic, overall a great easy read. Wasn’t expecting it at all, loved it even more for it. I was giggling so much my husband woke up..
Let me start of by saying this story had great potential. The premise was good and if it had been written better I think it could have been amazing. This was marketed along the lines of Lights Out and Butcher and Blackbird, which to me was not even close.
This was an attempt at a dark RomCom, but felt more like a parody dark romance erotic wattpad Hunger Games reimagining.
The idea that everyone has an soulmate and if they don’t connect and find them by a certain age and are deemed soulless is a really creative idea. Again, I liked the premise a lot. But the execution was terrible. Too much repetition. A ton of grammatical and spelling issues. Timeline hops/gaps.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for a review! DNFed at 15% I really thought I was going to love this one since I adore Dark RomComs and the premise of the book sounded nice. Maybe when I heard that it was for the fans of Butcher & Blackbird and Lights Out I set some high expectations… but it really wasn’t similar at all to me in what I read. Overall, I think the FMC is really juvenile with how she insults people and it’s not my type of humor. I don’t think it really fits with the Dark RomCom vibes. I get she is privileged and a “nice” person but there is no reason for her to be an adult at one moment and then super childish in the next. I also did not like the first interaction that happened to the couple when they reconnect (this is where I DNFed.) Another thing that irked me was that it was repetitive a lot within the few chapters I read. I heard the same world building fact in nearly every chapter or multiple times in a chapter. Also a bit of repetitive dialogue throughout.
A masked man with pretty pink love-heart sunglasses breaks into her home. Apparently, she's his soulmate? Insane, isn't it? Yeah, that's what she thinks, too. She does her best to get him to leave, but he just keeps calling her princess and corners her to leave with him. And how dare her kidnapper pet her cat, Couliflour? Fast forward, she's taken away to prison and sentenced for life for something that is totally not illegal in her eyes. Then she gets dragged into the fighting arena with none other than Dig Graves. She's required to fight to the death for ten days against the Soulless, but when Dig corners, her heart suddenly starts to beat...
Delphine is our FMC. She's detached and unwavering, but she's just used to keeping it all locked away since childhood, hence struggles to be vulnerable/showing emotions openly. Her dry humour and sarcasm are entertaining: she's easily one of my 2026 favourite FMCs.The process of her being sentenced, how she handles everything during and after that is absurdly gleeful Her vibes are very aloof and someone who's always in her own little bubble but knows how to stand up for herself.
Dig is our MMC, and he is beautifully, absolutely bonkers. Such a cutie-pie, really. He's also hilarious. And I love his love-heart sunglasses. Obsessed. On the outside, he may seem barking mad and dangerous, but he does love and care for Delphine in his own way, which is so sweet. The man is supportive of his princess and understands the value of consent, which is so attractive. His backstory puts a lot of things in perspective, and you get to see what's under all those layers of crazy he has.
Both of them have amazing chemistry, and their banter makes me all giggly and excited. They compliment each other so well with each other's opposite personalities. Magnus, her brother, is intriguing. It's really sad how he takes on the fatherly role. That must have been a lot for a child. His relationship with his sister is genuinely heartwarming. He will do anything and everything to protect her. But that plot-twist... oh, my Lordt.
The concept of being Soulless until one finds their Soulmates: it's giving dark romance in a dystopian, crazy world full of laughter and action. Also, there is so much chaotic adventure that takes you on a wild ride. Honestly, I love this world. The pacing is erratic, but so is the couple. Hence, it matches quite well.
Read this in one sitting because who needs sleep when Dig Graves is calling you his princess? No book has made me laugh as easy, and as much as this has. The dialogues are actually great, and the spice, of course, sizzling. It's a unique world, fascinating characters, and just overall brilliant. I've not read anything quite like this. I enjoyed it so much.
