Pagan Portals - Heathenry for the Solitary Practitioner

Rate this book
Advice and guidance for those who practice heathenry alone.

Heathenry for the Solitary Practitioner offers solid, well-researched basic information to help you begin your Heathen journey - including key texts, historical context, rituals, the Gods, Runes, and everything else you'll need for building your practice. This book is intended for solitary wanderers. Whereas most books tend to focus on building strong kin and working in groups for worship and relationship-building, often leaving out those who wish to practice as individuals, this book aims to restore the balance, offering practical advice and guidance to those who work alone.

This is an excellent introduction to Heathenry, and what it is, and isn't. It's broken down into sections, so if you're only interested in reading up on part of it (or pointing someone to certain points), they're easy to find. I appreciate that right out of the gate, Prothero goes into women practicing Heathenry, because there's definitely a misconception surrounding that. While I myself am a Pagan who follows a different path, what made me pick this up is my friends who practice. This has given me further insight into what they believe and their practice (we don't often go super in-depth about our spiritual paths). If you're curious, new to Heathenry, or have someone uninformed in your life, I'd highly recommend reading (or having them read) this book!
