I love a good wallflower story and this one had a very unique plot to it. Very enjoyable read

Lady Madeline doesn't really enjoy the husband hunt and much prefers to write, especially poetry

Her life is about to change. She just lost her best friend in a tragic accident and she is going to raise her best friends son. She promised her friend that if anything should happen, she would take on the guardianship of her him

Madeline will do anything needed to keep her promise, not even a powerful Duke will stop her

Tristan never wanted the domestic life with wife and children but his brother just passed away leaving his son orphaned and he plans on raising his nephew - when he arrives he is met with Lady Madeline who is determined to cause problems for him and his plans

Tristan proposes they marry, of course it will be a marriage of convenience - this will solve their problem...

Although they both start out not wanting marriage in their lives, not believing they have much in common - with time spent together and getting to know one another - not only do they find they have a lot more in common but there definitely is an attraction that builds which leads to so much more

The characters in the story are well developed, are strong, determined, and because of this it really makes for a good story. I liked their interactions and banter.
I think the plot was really intriguing, not one you see often in this genre

thank you to the author for the ARC. All opinions expressed are my own

This is a phenomenal book! The characters are interesting and the plot is really good. I like your interaction between everybody, and the villain is quite the villain. So is the interloper. It took me a while to read because life interfered. Otherwise I could’ve easily finished it in one day. It was relatively cleanly written with only one slightly racy part, which I liked. I like the fact it didn’t have much graphic text versus one that has a lot.

Amazing Story

Sally Vixen weaves tales so enchanting, her characters practically tap dance off the page, armed with wit sharper than a comedian's microphone and charm more magnetic than a puppy in a room full of softies. Prepare to be glued to the narrative, your reading posture teetering between pure anticipation and uncontrollable page-turning excitement.

This is the 4th book in the Duke Wars series. It is a standalone but it helps if you have read at least on of the earlier books.

This is starts in a fun way at the Devil’s club poetry night where anyone can recite a poem - the more inappropriate or raunchy the better. Our MMC Tristan is a senior member of the Devils so is in attendance with an opera singer. Our FMC Madeline wears a domino mask to recite her poem. It strikes the Duke’s interest and he follows her out to find out who she is.
What follows is tragedy, Madeline’s closest friend Betty and her husband Anthony (the Dukes estranged brother) unexpectedly die and leave behind their baby Adam. Betty got Madeline to promise that she would care for Adam if anything happened, whilst the Duke expects to claim his nephew. Fury and strong wills collide when Madeline defends her friend’s dying wish. Tristan can see that Madeline is fiercely protective of Adam and will not part from him so as any good over confident rake and duke would do, tells Madeline’s father and then Madeline that they are to marry. Madeline is understandably flummoxed by this declaration, but in the carriage journey back to London realises that this may be the only way she can honour Betty’s wish.
What ensues is their marriage; starting as a marriage of convenience, so that they can raise Adam together. However, like with any enjoyable HR novel, sparks fly, and are greatly resisted, as the story progresses. A great curve ball is Tristan’s prior mistress who is not happy to let him go. Plus Tristan’s cousin James who is repeatedly asking Tristan to cover his debts. James is initially nice to Madeline and is certainly nice to Tristan’s face, but clearly is up to no good and tries to seperate our married couple. The motivator is not unfamiliar to readers of this genre but the secrets being hidden were somewhat unexpected until they were revealed.
I really enjoyed the supporting characters in Tristan’s mother, their friends Charlotte and Isaac (who have their own story in an earlier book), Joan the nurse and of course Adam. Not that Adam is old enough to talk but he brings out a different side in our characters. Tristan is a rake with a damaged past, we have read this before, but he is written with depth and developing insight. Madeline may be considered a blue stocking, but she has moxie and is delightful to read. Please also read the bonus prologue and epilogue provided generously by the author as they do add to the story. Another enjoyable read by Sally Vixen.

I generously received an ARC from the author and freely offer this review.

Changing the Duke

What a story! I would go from sad to mad to happy. Madeline and Tristan both have to learn a different way of life than they are used to. The journey was a long one for sure. Excellent read

AI slop. Says she’s wearing glasses and then two paragraphs later says she’s not wearing glasses bc she’s wearing a mask in the same scene. Apparently this entire company is AI generated books. Wont be supporting.

Heart felt storytelling!!!

One of my favorites from this series. Tristan and Madeline were very remarkable characters. They were both justified in seeing the world as they both did! Together they were magnificent. Highly. Recommend!!!!

Ruthless duke

Another love story
Happily ever after takes the long road! Its amazing how the reader sees the problems way before the characters! Of course I had the old duke as James' father, so I was off a bit!
