Death of a Suitor: A Myrtle Clover Cozy Mystery, Book 18

Rate this book
The course of true love never did run smooth.

According to Myrtle, Eloise Crane set her cap for Miles long ago. Although Miles is now dating Eloise, he doesn’t seem overly enthusiastic about it. Myrtle figures he’s simply given in after running out of plausible excuses. Eloise drives Myrtle batty, so she’s intent on avoiding her as much as possible. This isn’t easy since Eloise is determined to join in whenever Miles and Myrtle are together.

When Myrtle spots Eloise at a restaurant canoodling with a different gentleman, she likes Eloise even less. And she decides that Eloise has caused no end of problems when her other suitor is found dead.

With Miles a suspect, Myrtle must jump into gear to clear his name and find the killer before he strikes again.

It’s been a busy few weeks, but I finished Death of a Suitor by Elizabeth Spann Craig, the audible edition. What a fun listen. The narrator, Lisa Lynn Sandlin, made distinctive voices for all the lively characters, which always enhances an audiobook.

I wish I had as much energy as Myrtle Clover, our octogenarian amateur sleuth in this cozy. Her mind is sharp, much to the chagrin of her son Red, the Chief of Police. Myrtle is not afraid to say what she thinks, ask too many questions (in Red’s mind), and put her life in danger to solve a mystery—especially when she and her dear friend Miles are suspects.

This fast-paced, well-plotted cozy had me guessing till the very end. Myrtle doesn’t solve just one murder; she solves two! I don’t like to give away too many details, but if you enjoy cozies with expertly crafted cliffhangers at the ends of each chapter, then Death of a Suitor by Elizabeth Spann Craig is the cozy—and series—for you.
