It had been a spur-of-the-moment decision to tag along with my old law school friend to her club. Newcomers’ night, and I was just desperate enough to shake up my squeaky-clean reputation to give it a shot. I didn't expect my next client to be in the crowd. Or to marry him ten days later...
One reckless night. One table full of pro athletes I hoped would forget me. And now I’m in my father’s law office, signing a marriage certificate to one of them. A not-so-stranger with a grin and a reputation that needs help. Do I want to make senior partner at my dad's firm? Absolutely. Do I want to marry a man I barely know? Absolutely not. But sometimes being a professional means playing the one game you swore you’d never touch... marriage.
Getting married to a stranger was never on my penalty list…until it became the only way to save my name and my career. Except she's not a stranger. She’s the one I haven’t stopped thinking about. And now she’s my lawyer and my wife… And the one woman I’m realizing has layers I’m dying to understand.
I loved the MMC but FMC not so much. Why author had to portray her so cold & unlikable is beyond me, especially as she didn't have any past trauma or something to explain her behavior. Honestly, I didn't see what the MMC saw in her and wished he had chosen someone else but she does kinda/sorta warm up close to the end or so but it ruined an otherwise nice story.
Backstory:
MMC is a hockey player who is a real nice guy that doesn't drink, party or spend his money. I think for the first time ever, we have an MMC who is stingy with his money because he is saving it for a rainy day and for life after his career ends (Bravo to him!). He has been celibate for two years since breaking off his engagement to OW whom he dated for 2 years and has zero regrets about breaking things off as he realized she was not the one for him because he wanted to settle down & raise a family and OW wanted glamour & the rich life.
Normally I detest when we get info about past relationships and especially when MMC loved OW and author shows us stuff he did for her or they did together. Here, there is a snippet or two about how MMC loves hard and is all "in" his relationships and that part I didn't want to know, especially when FMC asked him what he did for Valentine's Day in the past and he told her about his romantic night he had come up with when he was with OW.
To authors everywhere, PLEASE stop that nonsense. It ruins the love story unfolding between MCs when you provide stuff like this about someone else and makes the FMC not so special. Lol.
Anyway, he doesn't party or is a manwhore which I liked a lot. As story opens, his team take him to a strip club to celebrate their win and even though he didn't want to go, he went along to show team camaraderie and it was there where he met FMC who was for once wanting to step out of her conservative boring self as an Entertainment Lawyer and take a risk.
A bet later, she was on stage taking her clothes off (bra & thong still on) and strutting away on stage and later giving MMC a lap dance when his friends requested it of her and mistakenly took her for a stripper. MMC is embarrassed and at the same time turned on and attracted to FMC but FMC acts coldish because she has self confidence issues. Aka, she doesn't think guys are attracted to her or want her for anything other than a quick hookup, however, we are told over & over again that she is very beautiful and obviously smart 'cause she is a Lawyer.
Anyhoo, after the strip club scenario, MMC is unable to forget her but since he got into a bit of a brawl or something a while back and faces criminal charges (he didn't kill anyone or anything! Lol), his team management force him to work with FMC's Father's agency who is an entertainment attorney and he & his people know how to get famous folks out of trouble.
FMC's Father comes up with a plan for MMC & FMC to fake marry for 3 months to show he is in a committed relationship and whatnot. If FMC does this, she will become a full partner. So story begins with MMC agreeing with it because he doesn't have any other choice and he is fascinated with FMC and wants to get to know her.
Does she want the same and does she make it easy for him? Nope. I truly hated the way FMC was portrayed as she was not willing to have a simple dinner conversation with him when they went out in public to be seen by press, or allow him to take her hand/put his arm around her without flinching and never mind kissing. The Father (FMC's) told the MCs that this would be a platonic marriage for show and nothing else and that if they crossed the line, the MMC would be dropped and his career ends and FMC's promotion goes in the dumps. So yeah, she is constantly pushing him away and I really didn't feel any attraction coming from her for a long, long time until she finally let her hair down per se. Poor MMC thought she was his one. 😟
Anyway, as I said, it took half of the story for them to finally start something and approximately 10% or so before the end for her to finally get with the program which for me was waaay too long and by then it had pretty much lost me and I only finished it because of the MMC. To be honest, I wanted him in the end to tell her to take a hike. Lol. So yeah, I'm giving it 3 stars only because I really enjoyed MMC's strength and loyalty.
Safety:
-Non-manwhore MMC . Said he was celibate for 6 months or so. - FMC not a virgin. - A little OW drama with the OW coming into the picture briefly but MMC is very much over her and wants nothing to do with her. He is the one who broke the engagement/relationship because he realized she was not his person. -HEA
One reckless night, a table full of pro hockey players, & one bad decision later… Rosie ends up assigned as Boone’s lawyer to fix his reputation. The twist? It leads to a fake marriage with the one man she absolutely wasn’t supposed to catch feelings for!
Rosie is smart, ambitious and full of fire! People have been making decisions for her forever big & small. She’s had to fight to have any control over her own life. So shes a little guarded, a little prickly and desperate to stay in control. Falling for someone, especially someone who could blow up her carefully laid plans the last thing she wants. Watching her slowly soften, start making choices for herself, realize she deserves support instead of just constant pressure? I was rooting so hard for her because our girl deserve all the love and support!
Boone .. he had me melting and kicking my feet! This man is charming, patient and so obviously gone for Rosie it hurts. He notices everything about her, respects her ambition & never tries to make her smaller just to fit into his world. He’s gone out of his way to do the right thing publicly but with Rosie? He can’t hide how completely he’s fallen. He falls harder & harder every chapter! The yearning in this book was REAL!
The chemistry between them was so good. It’s soft and emotional, but the tension is always simmering under the surface. Every look, every quiet moment, every almost confession had me SCREAMING JUST SAY IT!! & when that tension finally snaps? It’s SO good & HOT🔥
This was such a fun, feel good read for me. I stayed up late into the night to finish this one!! Rosie & Boones story is so sweet, I loved every second of it! We also go to see more glimpses of Cain & Rhiannon too which was amazing! I absolutely adore Sofia’s writing and every time i read something new from her I always feel so happy after! I’m so excited to see what she writes next!
Within the Sin Bin is a believable, well-written romance with engaging characters and a strong, steady plot. Confident and sharp in “lawyer mode,” Rosie is the complete opposite outside of work. Raised by her father and surrounded by men her entire life, she struggles with insecurities about her femininity and desirability. She doesn’t see herself as the kind of woman a man would truly want. Rosie and Boone first meet in a strip club after Rosie has just completed her very first dance. Her night at the strip club is meant to be a one-time thing—something wild to boost her confidence and break away from her carefully controlled life. Boone is everything Rosie believes she isn’t meant for: a well-known professional ice hockey player for the Manhattan Mayhem—tall, handsome, and built like a romance novel hero. His teammates pay for his lap dance to celebrate a big win, and Boone is immediately captivated by “Rose,” who he sees as ethereal, almost fae-like, dressed in lilac. Despite his bad reputation in the press, Boone isn’t the reckless villain he’s made out to be. Most of the trouble comes from his teammates’ behavior, combined with his own unfortunate habit of speaking at the wrong time. When Rosie’s father takes on Boone’s court case, he insists that marriage is the next step—and dangles the promise of Senior Partner in front of her. Boone, meanwhile, needs a clean “good boy” image to protect his place on the team and the career he loves. The solution? A fake marriage for three months. A simple, mutually beneficial arrangement. Nothing emotional. Nothing messy. Or so they think. Their relationship develops slowly and naturally, mostly in public settings—games, interviews, and appearances—where they play their roles convincingly. But beneath the surface, their attraction grows stronger. The emotional distance they try to maintain becomes harder to hold, and the lines they promised not to cross begin to blur. With so much at stake—Rosie’s career and Boone’s team—the risks are enormous. The question becomes whether protecting everything they’ve worked for is worth denying what’s clearly building between them. Sophia Jade delivers a heartfelt story with authentic character growth, believable motivations, and a romance that unfolds at just the right pace. The tension feels earned, the stakes feel real, and the emotional payoff is satisfying. A strong, enjoyable read for fans of slow-burn romance and fake-marriage tropes.
Finding their person This is the second story in the Brookhaven Lake Series and features Rosie, a brilliant Lawyer and Boone, a star Ice Hockey player for the Manhattan Mayhem. They meet up under unusual circumstances and even though Boone can’t stop thinking about her they never think they will see each other again. This is not the case and just a short while later they are thrust into each others lives as Boone requires legal help getting his reputation back on track after some bad publicity. I loved Boone and Rosie as a couple as they tried to navigate their growing feelings, enjoyed getting to know all the side characters, laughed out loud many times at all of their antics and loved the storyline and all its steaminess. I haven’t read book one and was able to follow the story, but in saying that I’m interested in reading Rhiannon and Cain’s love story. A really enjoyable story. Thank you to Sofia Jade and Hidden Gems Books for the opportunity to read this book.
Within The Sin Bin is a romantic marriage of convenience story between NHL player Boone Tremblay and lawyer Rosie Prescott.
I love Boone and his charming self, wearing his heart on his sleeve as he unapologetically falls for Rosie (first). Despite his feelings, he’s careful with her heart and gives them both the time and space to fully realise what they both want and need from each other.
Rosie is calm and collected for the most part, despite having to live under her father’s watchful eyes and her brother’s protective nature. She’s careful with her ways, maybe a little too careful, and I like how having Boone’s presence in her life challenges her to do things for herself and step out of her comfort zone.
I was just swooning the whole time over their story.
Boone and Rosie's story is simple with a bit of complication. I love how Boone loved her. Like he was the calm for her. The plot is simple and its an easy read for me. Marriage for Convenience is one of my favorite tropes at this time so this one is a good one for me.
Tropes: * Sports romance (Ice hockey) * Workplace romance * Fake marriage * Arranged marriage * PR scandal * Stripper * Lawyer x Pro hockey * Strangers to lovers
This was very, very, very , very good.
Cain and Rhiannon gave me fits, but Boone and Rosie… they were so sweet! A little less angsty, more sweet and spice, this story delved into some emotional territory that usually isn’t explored very well. Rosie is consistently overlooked by her father in favour of her brother. She works hard… very hard, yet Cain seems to get the good cases and the glory, while she works herself ragged to support…. What she doesn’t realise is that in being overlooked this time, he’s about to hand her the key to her happiness.
Boone first meets Rosie at a strip club (not going to spoil how… but it was different, and I truly wish it was explored more later in the story)… Then a couple of days later, they meet again when he’s at the heart of a PR scandal set in motion first by his roommate and teammate’s actions, and compounded by the drama surrounding his ex-fiancee.
How I felt about Boone and Rosie…. I adored them - they were kind of opposites attract, and he gave golden retriever vibes. Rosie had no idea who she was, and I was so happy that Boone tried to support her! And, it was so small, but the way he stood up for her..? Swoon…. A lot of emotional upheaval through this while they find their way towards happines, but it didn’t feel like it was drama-filled..
The other characters… His roommate/teammate is a dog…. An absolute dog. I would not call him a friend at all. Who even does everything he does, and doesn’t even care about fixing his mess.. Plus… his actions at the end of the book… gross. Cain, Rhiannon, Gabe, Eden…. love them. I can’t wait for their stories! I wanted to see more Lily in this - it would have given it more of a complete feel. Maxwell Prescott - Rosie’s dad… a real a-z. I’m glad we got a bit more of a human feel at the end, but I wish there was a full confrontation from Rosie… oh well (but that’s my personal preference).
Overall, Sofia Jade does it again. Another stellar read, and a wonderful continuation to the series. Emotional, spicy, funny at times, heartbreaking at others…. I was disappointed when I got to the last page.
I’m a total simp for a man who yearns, and Boone yearns hard. Boone Tremblay is that man. A famous hockey player whose image is suddenly under fire, he is about to face court without legal or PR representation until Rosie Prescott enters the picture. She is part of his new legal team and also… his new arranged wife.
Rosie’s life has always been carefully decided for her. Her father never really gave her space to choose, only to follow rules and become “successful.” So when he proposes that she marry Boone to fix his reputation in exchange for making her Senior Partner at the firm, she does not hesitate. For once, all her hard work might finally pay off.
What Rosie does not expect is that her new husband already knows her. They met during one reckless, out of character night when Rosie decided to do something wild, dancing at a stripping club. From that moment on, Boone falls first and he falls hard.
Rosie, on the other hand, is closed off, guarded, and slow to trust. She makes Boone work for it and work he does. What I loved most is how Boone does not just pursue her romantically, he becomes her safe place. He listens. He notices. He encourages her. Little by little, he boosts Rosie’s confidence and helps her see her own worth. With Boone, she is not just useful or convenient, she is chosen, desired, and appreciated.
Their relationship feels incredibly heartfelt. The intimacy between them is not only physical, it is emotional. It is the kind of connection where vulnerability and passion coexist. They build real trust, real friendship, and real love before everything else falls into place.
And the spice? MY. FREAKING. GOD. Fires were definitely started and needed extinguishing because these two are hot.
If you are looking for your next marriage of convenience read mixed with sports romance and a total golden retriever MMC, look no further and pick up Within the Sin Bin now!
Thank you so much to Sofia for this beautiful ARC!
This is book two in the Brookhaven Lake series. I really enjoyed the first book, but it took me a little longer to fully connect with this one.
Boone was such a strong character, and I loved him from the start. He completely won me over. I did have a harder time connecting with Rosie, though.
Rosie decides to do something wild and out of character by trying dancing just once, and that’s how she meets Boone at the strip club. He’s instantly drawn to her. When her dad takes Boone on as a client and offers her a chance to be Senior Partner in exchange for a three month fake marriage to help clean up his image it’s an opportunity that’s hard for her to turn down.
As they spend more time together, Rosie begins to realize that Boone’s bad boy reputation doesn’t reflect who he truly is. What starts as a fake marriage slowly begins to feel very real.
Reading the first book of Brookhaven Lake series. I thought Sofia Jade couldn't write anything better but I was wrong. I cannot decide whose story I like more Cane and Rhiannon or Boone and Rosie.
Boone is in legal trouble and Rosie’s firm is tasked to help him. His team manager tells him to go along with anything they suggest to fix his reputation or he will be off the team. Rosie’s father goes a bit further and asks her to mary him until Boone’s legal case is dismissed. In return, Rosie will get promotion- the youngest senior partner in the firm. What both Rosie and Boone don’t is that she is the girl he hasn’t stop to thinking about, the same one who gave him a lap dance just a week ago. Great read!
I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy.
Rosie is well educated, beautiful, never stray from her father's rules. She never deviated from plans and she wanted to live for once. So when her best friend offers to be a stripper for one night, she accepts and has most interesting time of her life until it becomes marriage of convenience for her. Boone is having greatest time on the Ice except his reputation is in the toilet. His roommate gets into bar fights and he was trying to rescue him but some photos shows otherwise. His team's PR team dropped him and he needs new PR team and new lawyer. He never expected to see a stripper who will become his fake girlfriend/PR savior. Boone and Rosie will try to play loving couple according to PR schedule. It will only last three months. Rosie will get her promotion as senior partner at her father's firm and annulment and Boone will restore his reputation. However, Boone and Rosie schedule everything to the tee, when hearts gets involved it is more complicated than simple schedule. Boone and Rosie are total opposite but they enjoy talking, spending time with each other and they are slowly falling with expiration date. It suppose to last only 3 months but lines get blurry and they are head over heels for each other but her final goal may derail everything. First, I loved their meet cute and how they navigate being a fake to real and how they spent time away from NY. Second, Boone is an almost perfect book boyfriend. Overall, it was a great hockey romance that gives you lovey-dovey feelings after finishing.
It's a story about Rosie and Boon. Their love story is beautiful. The chemistry between them is real. You fall in love with the characters and the way Boon treat Rosie.
The book is well written, easy to read and got me hooked from beginning to end.
I recommend this to anyone who loves romance and feel good books.
She went to a club where pro athletes were and it led to a night she wanted to forget. She was soon in her father office where a nor so stranger was. He needed a wife and a lawyer and she will be it if she wanted to be a partner in the firm. He wants to know more about the woman he is about to marry. See how it will go I received an advance copy from hidden gems and a wonderful tale of getting to know each other
