Lane and the Inventor by Amy Q. Barker is a heartfelt, small-town, slow-burn romance and the third book in the Better Man series. This wonderfully crafted story is filled with warmth, tender moments, and deep emotions, which Amy Q captures beautifully.

The characters are well-developed, likable, and easy to connect with. I especially love the dual points of view, as they allow us to understand what drives the characters and makes them feel real and relatable. This grumpy-sunshine duo experiences an instant attraction, and the chemistry between them is undeniable.

Lane enjoys a carefree life, always seeking new experiences. However, when she encounters the grumpy yet amazing blue-eyed Logan, she discovers that there’s more beneath the surface. But will it be enough for her to let him into her life?

Logan has always been seen as a loner and a thinker, burdened by a past that haunts him. When the whirlwind that is Lane disrupts his perfectly ordered life, he realises just how special she is. But will he be able to let her into his heart?

This tale is filled with vulnerability and beauty. It was a fantastic read, and I highly recommend it to other readers.

Logan Hickory wasn't looking for Lane Gravers but meeting in a jarring moment makes it difficult to forget her. It seems fate has them crossing paths again and the two opposites find something special building between them. Can the let the past go to build a future or will it tear them apart?

I thought this was beautifully done. Heartbreaking at times and the characters are so relatable. This is one of those books that you can identify with something the character is going through and it resonates. A story you will think about long after finishing.

Lane and the Inventor (Better Man #3) by Amy Q. Barker

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. I love that it’s based in Colorado as that is where I’m at. I love reading books about Colorado and people finding love here. I know it’s fictional, but it can’t hurt to dream is it? Lane and the Inventor is the third book in the Better Man Series, but can be read as a standalone. I will definitely be looking for the other books in the series, as this was a really good book.

Lane is out with her sister’s sister-in-law when something tragic almost happens. Luckily for them a stranger who knew what to do and what was going on saved her life. Afterwards he runs and she doesn’t know what to think. Something in her tells her that they were supposed to meet each other. Then she shows up at work one day to find him there, doing something she didn’t know until later. She goes out on a limb and gives him her number, but she doesn’t think he’ll actually call her. Then when he does they go out on a date. She tells him this while talking about her twin sister: “I don’t know… she’s always been studious, grounded, steady— getting all her schoolwork done on time and joining the math and science clubs in high school— that type of thing. Then later, she went to culinary school, got a great job, and worked her way up to head chef at her restaurant. And on top of that, she married the perfect man— well, a perfect match for her anyway, and a great guy— Jason. I guess she’s always had a life plan and stuck to it.”

Logan is a loner. Not one to go out much unless absolutely necessary. When he goes out for his Taco Tuesday, or Enchilada Tuesday when everything goes South. He normally wouldn’t have socialized with anyone unless he has to, but when he sees someone in trouble he steps into action. Then he has a panic attack so he runs without saying anything to anyone and when the panic attack passes he goes to his truck. Only to be rushed by this small little thing by the name of Lane. Then he also sees the signs of them supposed to meet as if he knew something about what could happen. This is what he told her after he picked her up from work: “I also maybe had, um, a few signs. I know you mentioned you believe in that type of thing, and normally I don’t, but there were a handful of times these past few weeks that were… well, rather pointed. Almost like a sort of shouting in my head. I tried to ignore them, but it was almost like they wouldn’t let me. They were urging me, telling me I was meant to… to ask you out, so yeah, here we are. I don’t know what these signs mean, and I’m sorry if I’m freaking you out, but this is something I don’t even understand myself. All I can say is that I’m being completely honest with you right now, and I hope you won’t look at me like I have two heads. You mentioned crazy coincidences, so maybe you understand… or…?”

Lane is bright, bubbly and outgoing, everything that Logan is not. But when they meet under…interesting circumstances, there is no denying that there is a connection. A connection that Logan tries desperately to fight. Battling his own demons and the ghost of a tragic past, Logan has vowed not to let anyone in, deciding that disappearing is the best option. But Lane doesn’t agree, and she is as stubborn as she is bright.

This was a nice read, especially when I’ve been reading so much horror recently; it made a welcome change. I thought it was a sweet read. I’m a sucker for a slow-burn romance, and the grumpy x sunshine dynamic was just wonderful to read. The development of their relationship felt believable and earned. So many books, I read the romance feels rushed, and because of that, any development feels a little flat. But I felt Baker really did the slow-burn justice, developing their relationship believably, given how both Lane and Logan are, and the things they’ve been through (especially Logan). I really liked both Lane and Logan as characters, though I definitely felt more of a connection with Logan, being a little grumpy myself. Lane's POV was sometimes just a little too bubbly for me. Their meet-cute was interesting to say the least, I don’t think I’ve read two characters meeting in such an interesting way before.
I notice that this book is actually part of a series, but honestly, it’s great as a standalone. I will say that this book has made me curious to check out more of Baker's work, because if there are more sweet romances like this one, then I am in.
I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a sweet, steamy romance with a grumpy x Sunshine dynamic and a main character with a painful past. It is a sweet read that will definitely warm your heart while it's cold outside.

Lane and the Inventor is the third book in A Better Man series by Amy Q. Barker. Having loved her previous books, I happily one-clicked a copy, and set off to meet Lane Graves and Logan Hickory.
What I found was a tender story about two people from very different worlds - Lane Gravers, a free-spirited yoga instructor and adventurer - and Logan Hickory, a reclusive inventor with a guarded heart. Without giving away any spoilers, what developed was a wonderful, slow-burn romance that cleverly blends small-town charm with plenty of emotional depth.
Ms. Barker beautifully captures the push-and-pull of their opposites attract, grumpy-sunshine connection. Lane’s warmth and openness gradually chip away at Logan’s walls, making their journey feel authentic - full of awkward moments, quiet breakthroughs, and genuine vulnerability. The Colorado setting is painted with such vivid detail that it almost becomes a character itself, adding a sense of ‘grounding’ to the overall storyline.
This book is perfect for readers who enjoy a slow-burn romance where the healing power of love provides plenty of emotional payoff. And while the story is sweet, it doesn’t shy away from exploring themes of loss, healing, and second chances - giving it more depth than a typical ‘light’ romance.
I am definitely looking forward to more from Ms. Barker.
Happy Reading…

Lane Gravers is a social butterfly within the town of Keystone, with her involvement in social aspects of the town is why people are drawn to her. Although it takes her aback with a chance meeting in the local restaurant throws her into a whirlwind when she meets Logan.

Logan is a quiet, reserved and is not really a joiner within the local community, but when he has a chance meeting in an restaurant with Lane he is fascinated by her. Upon meeting her she is helping out with an emergency but once they interact the Logan feels the chemistry and would like to try to get to know this amazing women.

This is the third book in this series and I believe that this can be read as a stand alone story. I loved the way the story builds and that theses two characters have a second chance at love. Lane's character is the joyous, fun and is friends with everyone and to then fall for Logan the reserved, quiet, at times closed off but watching how he comes alive with Lane is beautiful to read.

The story is a lovely small town story and the chemistry between the two characters is brilliant to read and just draws you in to the warmth of the small town they are part of. They both have a stormy past but it is lovely to see them move past this with each other and become the couple they are supposed to be.

I can wait to read more books in this series and by this author.

Lane and the Inventor by Amy Q. Barker.
5 of 5 Stars.
This is an enjoyable and engaging read, and the third book in a series of standalone, small town, second chance, sweet and steamy romances. Wanderer, adventurer and yoga instructor Lane is also a social butterfly. Inventor Logan is reserved, quiet and pensive as well as being a loner. When they meet Lane thought Logan was broody, and grumpy, but also tall and handsome with amazing blue eyes. Logan’s first impressions of Lane were that she was beautiful and all sunshine, with amazing eyes. Lane learns that Logan has a painful past, but Logan believes that she can thaw his broken heart. Both can see themselves falling for one another, but neither believes they are ready for love.

It’s definitely a case of opposites attract in this heartwarming, slow-burn romance. Both Lane and Logan are likeable and relatable characters and I felt invested in their relationship. The chemistry between them is very steamy, and I like how their relationship developed throughout the story. The setting is a wild and beautiful small-town in Colorado, which the author brings vividly to life. I was once again kept happily turning the pages, and I recommend all three books in the ‘A Better Man’ series.

Two souls destined by fate. Two broken souls that need to be mended. Two souls that have found one another in passing that feel the pull. Two souls the we as the reader are routing for while we read Lane and the Inventor.
The author brings the reader into a very relatable world. A world that I personally understand and love! There are signs everywhere but are these the right ones to follow.
He saved her friend and she is forever grateful but that’s all he wanted to do. Save someone, now he’s recognizable. He doesn’t like it, it’s too much. He needs to get out but when Lane follows him to his car, Logan isn’t sure how to respond but he knows exactly what he needs to do. He feels bad but he knows what needs to be done. He dips out without so much as a goodbye, but he can’t get her off his mind. Is she his chance?
After another unexpected meeting he decides to revive his boring life and get back into the world. But is it the right thing? Everything about this girl is telling him yes but he needs to see it through.

Lane and the Inventor is a romance that’s both sweet and spicy, and it’s packed with emotion, too!

Lane and Logan first meet in a tense moment where Logan steps in as a hero. Their meeting is brief, but there’s an instant connection. When they cross paths again, the attraction is just as strong. As they get to know each other, their feelings grow quickly. Still, Logan is struggling to recover from a painful loss. The big question is whether he’ll let Lane help heal his heart.

Lane and Logan couldn’t be more different. Lane is a free spirit who makes the most of every day, while Logan is grieving and has shut himself off from others. Lane brings light into his dark world. I appreciated that the author took time to develop their relationship, which made it feel very real.

This book isn’t just a romance—it’s also a moving story about loss, rediscovering love and hope, and learning to value life. If you enjoy emotional romances with a touch of magic, I recommend giving it a try.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | A warm, tender story with so much heart

Lane and the Inventor by Amy Q. Barker is an absolutely sweet and charming read that wraps you up like a soft blanket. From the very first pages, the story pulls you in with gentle emotion, lovable characters, and a sense of warmth that lingers long after you’re done reading.

Lane is such an endearing character—curious, kind, and easy to fall in love with—and the connection between Lane and the Inventor is beautifully written. Their bond feels genuine, heartfelt, and full of quiet moments that say more than big dramatic gestures ever could.

What I loved most is how the story balances imagination with emotion. It’s thoughtful without being heavy, tender without being cheesy, and leaves you feeling hopeful and comforted. This is the kind of book that reminds you why small moments, kindness, and connection matter so much.

A truly lovely read for anyone who enjoys soft, meaningful stories with a touch of magic and a whole lot of heart. 💛📖

I enjoyed reading this sweet romance story. This is an author that is newer for me in which I enjoy their creative writing skills and details that make the characters pop. I also enjoyed how the author pulled me into the story from the start and kept me turning pages to the end. This is a well written story about Logan and Lane. Their story will show you that love is possible even if you are opposite of each other. Lane is an adventurer and social butterfly and Logan is the quite reserved type. He has a past but will she be able to take down his walls to find something that neither one was looking for? I found both of these characters to be connectable, strong, and relatable. I enjoyed watching their growth and chemistry throughout. Their story is easy and entertaining to read and one you don’t want to miss. Their story is fast paced and hard to put down. This is a great story and I look forward to seeing what is next for this author. I highly recommend this book.

Lane and the Inventor by Amy Q. Barker. This is the 3rd book in the Better Man series and its so good. Its set in a small town in Colorado and its the story of Logan and Lane. Lane is very spur of the moment, spitfire. She is full of life and wants everyone else to be that way as well. She teaches yoga in her small town and everyone she meets loves her that is until she bursts into Logan's life. Logan is kinda grumpy, a loner, and not one to be bothered with nonsense. He is a very smart man in fact he is an inventor and is really intelligent but hes been hurt in the past and doesn't have time for letting anyone in. Lane thinks Lane is very grumpy and doesn't really like him at the beginning but she keeps trying to break down his walls and she actually catches feelings for the guy. Will she be able to completely break down his walls so that they can try a relationship? Read this wonderful small town romance to find out!

The main characters both have really tragic pasts that they work through in order to come together and heal. Lane is fun, outgoing, and bubbly. She is finishing up her EMT classes to work full time at the ski lodge. In the off season she has many different jobs around town. Logan is quiet, reserved, and a loner. He is a tinkerer, an inventor, someone who sees a problem and tries to make it better. They meet at a busy Mexican restaurant on a Taco Tuesday when there is a medical emergency in Lane’s party and Logan swoops in to help. They meet again when he is at the marina working on an invention for boats. They are both having some feelings, like there is a connection and they were destined to meet, but both are hesitant in relationships. This book had wonderful characters, a beautiful setting in Colorado, a lot of emotions as they dig into their pasts, and a sweet romance as they get to know each other better.

If you love small town romances, Lane and the Inventor by Amy Q. Barker is a read you will want to read. Lane is outgoing, happy, and a social butterfly. Logan is a loner, very quiet, and a thinker. They meet a busy Mexican restaurant when there is an emergency with Lane and her friends, Logan comes to rescue and fixes it, they again meet at the marina. You can tell right away that there is a spark between them but they are both not ready to give into the connection they both feel. They both have to dig into their past and their emotions before they could lose someone that could be their ONE!

This was a slow burn, small town romance that I loved. This is book three in the series, and now I want to read the others. This small Colorado town really was fun to read about. I loved that Logan and Lane were so different and I loved the sweet romance that followed them, I highly recommend this read.

Lane and the Inventor is the first book I have read by Amy Q. Barker, but it will not be the last. While the third book in the A Better Man series, Lane and the Inventor can definitely be read as a standalone. This book has such a sweet, slow-burn, small-town romance vibe and I am here for it! Lane and Logan's instant connection is strong and unexpected. The world-building in this book is vividly descriptive, providing the reader with a front row seat into small-town Colorado life. The characters are realistically flawed, believable, and so very lovable. I couldn't help but relate to Logan’s anxiety and Lane's need to fill silence with talking. They both have trauma filled pasts and are working through them in their own unique ways. This dual point-of-view story explores some deeper themes than just romance, including loss and healing. I definitely recommend this opposites-attract romance and can't wait to read more by Amy Q. Barker.

Lane & The Inventor follows Jill-of-all-trades Lane, who has an unlikely encounter with inventor Logan, an encounter that turns into the most important story of their lives. Both healing from pain of the past and finally finding joy in each other, they come to understand the true meaning of meant-to-be. My favourite character was probably Logan, I thought he was really interesting. I recommend this book because it’s quite a beautiful love story, very meaningful and quite inspirational, too. I did think Lane’s story came out of nowhere. It was a beautiful story once it all came together, but I wish it had been woven into the plot more. “I’ll continue this journey, and I hope you’ll come with me—to travel and walk this road of wonders, of the here and now, and of the knowns and unknowns in the future. Because doing it alone is fine, but isn’t it so much better with someone else holding your hand?”

Logan Hickory, a self proclaimed recluse, goes out for his weekly Taco Tuesday dinner and his whole world changes. He saves a woman's life by giving her his epipen for an allergic reaction and meets another beautiful lady that makes his life of solitude shift. Her name was Lane Gravers. Weeks later he goes to the marina to get some work done and relax away from his house and thoughts of a certain lady when out of nowhere he hears her voice and there again is Lane. Lane gives her number and from there they set up to meet again.Logan and Lane have a connection that's deeper than most people when they first meet and there are signs that really drive this for each of them. Give this story the time to get to Lane and her NDE ( You’ll be on the edge of your seat to see how much these two characters are meant to be) I don't want to give too many details but this is an amazing love story!

Lane and the Inventor: Small town, second chance, sweet and steamy romance (A Better Man Book 3) By Amy Q. Barker

Lane and the Inventor is the third book in the A Better Man Series. This is a Second Chance / Contemporary Romance that I enjoyed reading. This can be read as a standalone and enjoyed with no issues. The characters are relatable fully developed and creative yet make the story come to life and the storyline flows from beginning to the end. The authors style and attention to detail makes the story pop. This is a story about Lane (Adventurer and social butterfly) and Logan (reserved and quite ). These two will have you turning the pages till the end. Can she be what he needs to let his guard down? I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading more from this Author.

Oh my goodness I just love this cover ! What’s hidden in between is a real gem ❣️

Logan was bowled over by Lane and she’s everything he’s not but it’s all good but ebony are wondering if they’re ready for love …..

This is a journey of self discovery , working through issues at times I thought they wouldn’t find their way to each other but fear not 😉 also Logan will surprise you with his skills in the “love department “ 😂🔥

Lane and the Inventor by Amy Q. Barker, is a great second chance romance. I LOVED IT! You get to know both Lane and Logan as the book is told very well from both points of view. Both have gone through heart ache and pain in their past. I don’t want to tell you what that pain is because it is a big part of the story and how they get to know each other. I can say this is a great book and I couldn’t put it down. I really loved it. Lane is the easy going, talks, and extrovert that loves life. Logan is a hermit, who does not do well with a lot of chaos or people around. This is what you think of them and how they are at the beginning but once they get to be with each other and get to know themselves you see why they were that way. I just really loved their story together. You won’t regret reading this book!

Call it fate, call it kismet, but something sparked the minute Logan set eyes on lane. She is a social butterfly, and he’s very nearly a hermit. Their chance meeting occurred when he stopped by the local restaurant for Taco Tuesday and she was with her family and friend. Fortunately for the friend, Logan recognized an anaphylactic attack when he saw one and was able to revive her with his epi-pen. What zipped between Logan and Lane however was a jolt stronger than any shot of epinephrine.

Lane and the Inventor is one book of three in A Better Man Series by Barker. It is thoroughly engaging and held my interest throughout the entire story. On the surface our protagonists seem to be totally mismatched, but with some metaphysical assistance, time, love and unburdening, theirs becomes a love story worthy of a TV movie. Definitely a 5-star read!

Lane seemed like an outgoing young lady who has a bubbly personality, Logan is the inventor who is a bit of a recluse. It seems that he does not come out of his house except to eat out at the Mexican Restaurant occasionally. He doesn't usually socialize while he is out. But this one particular night while he was there he noticed a young girl who appeared to be having trouble. He had just filled his prescription for an epi pen. He gave her one while they were waiting on the ambulance to arrive. It saved her life. Then he had to get out of the restaurant in a hurry. He was way out of his comfort zone.

I think you will like this book, I know that i did. Check it out, you will be glad that you did.

I loved this book! Lane and the Inventor has the best parts of slow burn romance, small town meet-cute, and the grumpy/sunshine trope! Lane is bubbly and bouncy, with lots of friends, but missing that deeper connection with those around her. Logan is brooding and contemplative, someone who keeps to himself and is content with that, until he runs into Lane. This book is dual POV, and it keeps the story moving and engaging - although the story doesn’t need help to keep you reading and enjoying each chapter. They both have hurt and pain in their pasts, but meeting and falling for each other becomes very healing, and is one of the best kinds of second-chance love. I highly recommend this book

This book was a really sweet read. I enjoyed reading about Logan and Lane's story. Logan is a grumpy inventor. He doesn't really involve himself in the local town, or much with anyone. But when he meets Lane at the local restaurant, he becomes interested in her. Coming out of his shell for her, but still trying to stave off the pain from his past. Lane meets Logan, and things are a little rocky at first, but little by little she sees him open up for her. The banter between these two was very warming and light hearted. There is definitely spice, but the slow romance leading up to it, was soooo totally worth it. I enjoyed this read very much!

This was a cute read. I loved that it was set in Colorado, so many of the places or sites were familiar to me and easy to picture in my mind, which just added to the story. I really enjoyed the main characters of Lane and Logan. I liked that they both had baggage and a past, which just made their connection more special. I also liked the storyline of fate or a higher power playing a role in how they ended up connected to one another. So many cute little nuances that made for a cute, quick read. There was a little bit of steamy romance, but only a small amount among the whole book. Solid read for me.

This book is a very mild and pleasant book to read by Amy Barker. In this story, you have Lane and Logan who seem to be a bit of opposites (the embodiment of opposites attract). Lane is a very social person who loves interaction with others and Logan is a very quiet and contained person. He meets Lane at a restaurant and is beguiled by her. This story is the embodiment of a small town story and it was just a sweet, light hearted read. It's third in the series but I believe it can be read as a standalone. I related to their pasts a lot and I found I related to both characters a bit. A very good read for any person looking for a good book!

I'll kick-off the reviews. I hope you enjoy this small-town, slow-burn, steamy romance. I loved writing this story! This is the third book in my "Better Man" series. Lane is a reformed wanderer and adventure seeker when she meets loner, recluse Logan. Their initial meeting is a bit bumpy (with Logan playing Mr. Grumpy himself!), but Lane doesn't let that faze her. She's intrigued and before long, despite their differences, the universe has bigger and better plans for them. Get ready to fall in love with Lane and Logan in wild and beautiful Keystone, Colorado!

Life can change in an instant, and you can isolate yourself or try to move on. Logan Hickory has spent his recent past isolated, until a night in a restaurant changes his ways.
Lane Gravers, is thankful that Logan intervened that night. She believes that there are signs in life and there is more to Logan Hickory.
Lane and the Inventor is the story of love, loss and new love. As Lane and Logan’s relationship grows, they find their world is full of signs. It is wonderfully written, with authentic characters - I didn’t want their story to end!

This book is a brilliant second chance romance between two characters that each have pain in their past. This is a sweet, slow burn romance that is truly lovely to watch develop as the story goes on. Their connection felt genuine and just what they both needed to help them move forward.
The story itself was enjoyable to read. The way the author portrayed the characters and developed the story around them was so interesting. It was easy to become invested in this story and want to know how it would play out. I thoroughly enjoyed this story from start to finish.

Lane and the Inventor is the perfect slow burn second chance romance. It checks all the boxes for a cozy and fun romantic read.
Lane and Logan have both endured a bit of a troubled past that we read through dual points-of-view.
Logan appears to prefer staying away from people and avoiding any attention. Lane appears to be the exact opposite-- the center of conversations and fun! Only after getting to know both of them do you understand the mask. I felt like I really got to know both of the characters and felt as though I was right there in Colorado with them.
