Buried Secrets

When you find bones in a garden, it’s not a history project anymore.
When Kaitlin Mathews arrives on the windswept shores of Widow’s Point Island, she’s seeking answers. Adopted as a baby and armed with only fragments of her past, Kaitlin’s research into the island’s abandoned maternity home draws her into a web of long-buried secrets.
Sheriff Mattison Winters has spent his life protecting the island’s insular residents, but the discovery of human remains on the grounds of the island’s mansion changes everything. As Kaitlin’s investigation into the mansion’s dark history collides with Matt’s search for justice, they uncover a chilling conspiracy of greed, betrayal, and murder that stretches back decades.
But someone is determined to keep the past buried. It becomes clear that Widow’s Point Island guards its secrets fiercely—and not all of them are willing to rest in peace.
Buried Secrets is a gripping tale of mystery, romance, and the lengths we go to uncover the truth—and to protect the ones we love. Fans of The Widow’s House and The Last House on Needless Street will find themselves enthralled by this atmospheric thriller where the past refuses to stay buried.

Not my usual read

But I am so glad I tried this book. I loved Kaitlyn and Matt's story. Kaitlyn who's adopted like me is searching for her family and to belong. Queue bodies found on property and a handsome yet untrusting sheriff. The plot moved quickly but not too fast. I can't wait for the next book

4.5 stars

Good second book to this trilogy. Although this second book is its own story, I thinks it’s best to read book 1 first for clarity of the characters’ roles and the background of Widow’s Point Island.

The story is heartbreaking at times, but will also warm your heart. This is a good mystery with the right amount of romance added for enjoyment, and the epilogue has the hook that makes you want to jump right into the next book. 4.5 stars.

This mystery had me hooked from the first chapter to the final page. The pacing was right, the characters were intriguing, and the twists kept me guessing the whole time. Just when I thought I had it figured out, the story surprised me. A truly gripping read — so glad I won it through the Goodreads giveaway!
