As a voracious reader, I can honestly say, this book’s plot was something I’ve never come across. Initially I contemplated not reading as I had just lost several family members and wasn’t sure if the book would be too much. It certainly starts off with a high impact as the main character, 16 year old Charlene (Charlie) is going into an abortion clinic and later after fighting with her mother, gets into a horrific car accident. From there, the story unfolds with Charlie’s last 60 seconds of her life, encountering a being, named Final Moment. Final Moment asks Charlie some pointed questions and precedes to take her on a journey of others who too, will live their final moments in her town that night. Charlie is able to see and hear and one time speak with those people in their final moments. Her last interaction of the night, changes everything. From there, the story ebbs and flows with loss, grief, grace, mercy, forgiveness, and everything that we too deal with. Beautifully written, captivating story and characters as you navigate the arc of humanity and what it means to live a life well.
