In the neon metropolis of Neo Elysium, superheroines streak across the sky, villains destroy buildings on random weekdays, and honey reigns as the city’s favorite pizza topping. But for Arthur Ward, none of it matters. He’s a burnt-out delivery guy with a life slipping past him and scars he’s spent years running from.
Until the night he becomes collateral damage in a clash between the rookie hero Solaris and the mad genius Doctor Bellreve. Broken, blinded, and drenched in a volatile chemical, Arthur should be dead. Instead, the chemical rewrites the laws of biology… and forces him to evolve.
He becomes the the first male Empowered.
Suddenly, the man who wanted nothing more than a quiet life becomes the city’s newest—and most dangerous—mystery. His body changes faster than the doctors can skin hardening to iron under pressure, frost pouring from his skin under heat. But every power has a price, and villains would burn the world to get their hands on him.
Luckily, he isn’t alone. The guilt-ridden and protective Solaris refuses to leave his side, vowing to help him even at the risk of herself. But more heroines are beginning to notice the lone man who can challenge them… and perhaps even help them. In a world where superpowered women burn hot and need even hotter release to stabilize their powers, Arthur is in more danger than he realizes.
The first male Empowered has arrived, and everyone wants a piece of him.
Some people write books instead of going to therapy. The MC is a mess with no self awareness. That would be fine if we weren't stuck in his head, but that miserable hole is where we spend every word. That bilge colors every interaction, relationship, and intimate scene, for the worse. And the author presents the MC as aspirational, undeservedly. The setting is equally messed up. But I have given this work enough of my time. Don't repeat my mistakes. Go read something else.
What a great ride. We really need more from this genre. Super hero girlfriends are so underused. I love the gentle femdom as well. Really "loving" femdom in general is underused and we need more of it. Though there wasn't as much as I hoped. It always transitions into the male lover role instead of letting the women stay in charge.
Couldn't finish. The MC was too emotionally weak and had very little motivation. The MC was a looser in the beginning and basically stayed a looser with power. The author basically make the MC not very bright so that he can continually make bad decisions to move the plot along. When the MC was finally kidnapped, I was rooting for the villain to end the MC so we could move onto someone more interesting.
Absolutely amazing characters and great story so far, I really like the cool revelations at the end and look forward to more on that. All the MCs relationships felt very real and empathetic. This book was lighter on action but I actually love that it works super well with this story.
I went into this story blind, and man all I can say is that I did not expect to get hit by a story that’s a 10/10 in my book. The character development, the plot, the action, the ROMANCE, damn near everything was honestly spectacular in this book and I’m hooked. I genuinely can’t wait to read more of this series.
I could really see the love for erotica in this one. Usually the sexy time is just nice emotional closure for characters that you usually don’t get. In this case, it was truly hot and was rewarding for both characters and reader.
I very much appreciate the cast in this one. It really is a superhero’s origin story with a darker twist than usual. The complications of this genre were explored in a much more complicated manner than usual and I appreciate that. Not only did I love each character, I believed in them in a way I might with comic book heroes. Can’t wait to see more of them and from them; especially one of them in particular…
Can’t wait to see more from Silas. This has been my favorite superhero story on Unlimited so far. As a fan of the Steelheart series by Brandon Sanderson, can’t wait to see more!
I think if you enjoyed Saving Super Villains there's a good chance you'll like this book. I thought it's characters were well written and the romance was strong with believable ups and downs. Not super action heavy but that doesn't mean nothing happens as it's much more character focused which I appreciate.
I'm a big fan of the MC having a troubled backstory, and also learning bits and pieces as you read that makes you go "OH! Wow!" Silas did an excellent job with how the relationship starts, and leads into the LI's without being "too slow" or "too fast. Keep up the good work!
An amazing start, middle, and end. The character growth was amazing, with every bit of information drip feed to keep you wanting more. The relationships are handled well, and honestly delves a lot into the characters core personalities. I'd say give it a shot. At 25% I knew I couldn't read another book until I finished this one
I DNF this book before page 100, as the overarching premise left me disinterested.
The MC is your typical loser, delivering pizza and living in a craptastic apartment. He's on his way home when a superhero and villain battling each other end up with him as a casualty. He's disfigured, and splashed with some unknown chemical. The superhero, of which there are only women due to abilities only showing up with XX chromosome pairs, is beside herself with worry about the MC, hanging around his hospital bed for weeks before he wakes up. His behavior upon waking up is mostly pouting and whining. Eventually, the hero woman breaks him out of the hospital for "reasons" that make zero sense, other than maybe the power of pouting?
What really drove me off with the whole "only women can have superpowers, but now the MC gets to have them, so he's the only male in existence that all these sexually frustrated heroines can date" trope. Otherwise known as harem, no effort mode. That trope only works for me if there is something else going on, like excellent comedy and other factors that can make me ignore how easy the MC has it. This book doesn't offer that.
This series has good potential, but the delivery so far has been meh. The MC is basically a type of Deku, he has this incredible power but can only use like 15% of it and using 100% puts him in the hospital, sound familiar?
The story is interesting and I want to keep reading, but there are some things that kind of irritate me. The whole thing of awakened are immune to their powers because their body adapts to it, that’s fairly obvious. The thing that annoys me, the MCs body would start immediately adapting as well because with those cells in his body it would achieve only two things, he adapts quickly, or his body rejects it and starts trying to rid itself of them. This isn’t a training thing, it’s basic biology, but the author seems to not understand that. His body would start changing genetically, adapting his physiology to be able to use the powers safely. Exercising isn’t going to achieve that!
Also there is way too much emotional baggage for these people. Like seriously, the hero’s have more emotional damage than the villains! They literally are one awkward fart from a nervous breakdown! All they do is whine and second guess themselves all the time. They’re more angsty than a high school homecoming dance….
Overall, the book is good enough that I want to continue the series, I just hope the author moves away from some of this annoying stuff.
I really try not to be too harsh, and I don't want a "Alpha male" chad guy who will throw the entire world on its shoulders in 3 chapters.
But I do expect some, heck ANY growth from the main character.
Is he actually an adult? I get it he has PTSD and trauma from when he was a kid. Yeah that is rough and I imagine he's got some emotional baggage to work through. But he doesn't. At all.
He literally goes from being a nervous, stuttering, cringey mess on his date with his superhero girlfriend. To banging each other's brains out, and then requesting a favor from one of the few people in the book who acts like a functioning adult (Bravada).
He's kind of an A-hole the entire ride to their destination (after he asked for the favor to begin with). Then he has an absolute psychotic break the entire time he's with her and hyperventilates and freaks/lashes out for a few paragraphs. Then suddenly acts like "*sniff* I can handle it, I'm ready now."
If you want a decent idea, in a book with a bunch of almost excessive smut, with one of the whiniest main characters, and mostly immature adults you've ever seen. Then this is the book for you.
Not just a great superhero book, but so much more!
This book was not just an amazing first entry into this genre by a new author, nor was it just one of the best superhero slice of life books I’ve read, but it was also an incredibly well written romance. The characters felt real. They had their own faults and strengths and personalities. The interactions felt real and the love was sweet and heartfelt. The story itself was nothing to sneeze and kept you hooked until the very end. I can’t wait for more from this author.
I really enjoyed the book. It has a feeling of saving supervillains and that's one of my favorite series'. It does need a healthy edit, I don't want to say rewrite but that might be an option. Some of the scenes are disconjointed and are hard to parse, the pacing is fine but could use a little tweaking, and the characters and how they act could use some polish.
Overall I really enjoyed the book. Hopefully the second one will be an improvement on what is already good here.
A really great new version of the Super power fantasy we have all read. The world building and character development are fantastic as expected!!! The flow of the story is written so well you will not want to put it down. The realism of damage and issues we all have plays wonderfully in the story making the characters more appealing. I personally will always enjoy the stories with an underlying mystery and good slice of life blended into the adventures and fantasy parts of the story. More more more
Look a smut book is fine, and I can even suspend my disbelief about how all of these women are enamored with a plane main character. However to have these women falling over themselves and being overly flirting with the lead when he is still covered in burns, acid scars to his face and other damage that is in the process of healing was too much. I’m not looking for realism here but at least have the guy fully healed to keep the story consistent before you start making the characters hook up.
This book was fun, the world was interesting. The protagonist is sort of terrible but intentionally so, hopefully he’ll grow if the series continues.
The only real criticism is that it feels like a first draft. The book is absolutely littered with typos and poor incorrect word choices. The tense is a little all over the place as well. One or two passes by a decent editor though and this book could be a contender.
Going in blind I really appreciated Arthur's character as its fed to us throught the book. His real feeling emotional trauma as well as his experiences of Love/ joy. This book just made be belive in the setting as few "superhero " future settings do in this type of book. 5 out of 5 as it makes me instantly want to read the next book.
Give it a shot. The writing and story are very good. I was waffling on giving it a 4, but at the end of the book, I was left with a big smile on my face, with the satisfied feeling, which bumped it up to a five. I have to admit, that I skimmed through the last spicy scene, as I wanted to get back to the story, but that was the only one.
Interesting superhero story that begins with a very unique idea. What would a world where all heroes are women be like for the first male. Arthur along with Lucy and Bella . We’re presented with supervillains that are a challenge and not underpowered. I am anxiously awaiting the next episode.
The book was a little heavy on the drama. Especially from the MC. However, it's settled down at the end. Could be the makings of a good series, but it'll need another book to set it up. Enjoyable, but not as many battles as I would think in a hero book. However, the next book may change that.
If this had any editing done I would have given it a 4 or 5 star rating. The story is compelling and believable even for this genre. The only issue was editing because of all of the typos and grammatical errors in this book it kept pulling me out of what would have been a wonderful story for this adult themed book with a good plot and story.
Hella’ve story, can’t wait for the next one. Pathos, ethos, Eros mixed in with a generous portion of bam, pow, boom! Interesting, layered characters, tantalizing plot line. This guy ain’t ‘aspiring’, he’s ‘accomplished’. Can’t wait for the next one… (yeah, I know, I said that already.)
Actually a 3 star for me, but others will probably like it more.
I love the story and the little touches of extra info that suddenly give the story more meaning, but I hate the wuss that is the hero. He vacillates between being scared of everything and the next moment taking charge. I understand why he’s like that, trauma etc. But it still makes me annoyed.
Before I started reading this I honestly wasn't expecting much but I'm happy to be wrong. This is easily one of the best superhero romance stories I've read. The author did a great job balancing story, emotional beats, action, character development, and ahem "action". It's all very well written and I'm looking forward to reading more from them.
I picked this up expecting typical harem lit. It was that, but it had a surprising amount of heart. There are parts that'll hit you right in the feels. I'm looking for sequels.
I really love this book the main character is very real and there’s so much character development in this one as well as hints of more in the future. Some of the best stuff is in the last few chapters I can’t wait for the next book
Everything was on point pretty much in this book, and a good twist on the superhero story line, i just got tired and bored of all his excessive whining as well as weakness.
Every problem solved and love gained in this story feels earned and special. The MMC has deep trauma that feels respected and reasonable. If you like romance for men, do yourself a favor and read this book!
There’s a lot of derivative garbage in haremlit and super hero lit both and this could easily have been just another example however the story is top notch and well paced. If your on the fence with this one give it a shot it’s worth reading
