I was looking forward to this as a palate cleanser—K.C. Crowne’s books usually deliver exactly that, and the festive, holiday theme had me excited. Unfortunately, I ended up DNF’ing at around 55%.

The biggest issue for me was the lack of narrative continuity. There are noticeable gaps in the story, particularly in character development and motivation. The MMC is introduced as a strategic, intentional Dom who values precision, truth, and privacy—yet without any meaningful buildup or internal conflict, he abruptly shifts into a passive role, taking commands from the FMC. The reversal itself isn’t the problem; it’s the absence of logic or emotional groundwork to support it.

The same issue shows up in the pregnancy plotline. We’re explicitly told she’s on birth control, but when pregnancy happens, there’s no discussion of contraceptive failure or reconciliation with the “precision and truth” standard the MMC supposedly lives by. It’s simply accepted and glossed over, despite this being a trope that usually includes reasoning or acknowledgment in the author’s other work.

Overall, the story felt rushed and inconsistent, with character dynamics changing to serve the plot rather than evolving naturally. I was hoping for a cozy, cohesive holiday romance, but the missing connective tissue made it hard to stay invested.

I loved everything about this book. Cassandra does the escort deal (only arm candy, nothing more) so she can stay afloat. When an opportunity arises that will help her pay for her sisters life or death surgery, she goes for it. But after knows nothing about being a submissive. Fake it till you make it right?
Damion is a mafia kingpin who’s trying to go legit and he hired her for this part.
These two together were fire. He’s a much older guy, but egos with her situation.
The growth Cassandra made was awesome. I loved the twists and turns and watching these two explore things unlined, especially for Cassandra.

This is my first book by KC Crowne. If you like dark mafia romances with a dirty-mouth MMC and a strong, sassy FMC, this book is for you. We get a lot of praise, edging, 🪢 , and demanding yet sweet aftercare.

Damien is a billionaire CEO and a Bratva boss. Cassandra is broke and needs money to pay for her older sister, Clara’s, heart surgery. She takes on a job with the Velvet Ledger agency to ‘host’ Damien’s Christmas party. When he finds out she lied about being a Sub, he offers her a 1-month contract to be his. Damien is used to being in control and teaches Cassandra how to submit but he doesn’t do it in a way that dims her fire/spirit. She wears a red ribbon at her wrist, his reminder, but that tether soon becomes a want not just a need. Damien is trying to turn his business legit but there are others against that, and Cassandra gets caught in the crossfire. He’s warring with his emotions, and she is warring with wanting him yet not wanting to be part of that world.

A wonderful Christmas story that touched your heart because a young woman who loved her sister who raised her, sacrificed her life for her needed heart surgery or she would not continue to live. Cassandra loved her sister so much that she needed to find a way to get the money to pay for her sister’s heart surgery. Cassandra went to the Velvet Ledger for a job, what she did not know was the job was not for a host but to become the submissive to the Bratva Pakhan. She tried diverse ways to produce the money, but the surefire way for her to get the money was to pretend that she was submissive. It was hard at first because she was not submissive at all and could be very argumentative and she gave Damien a challenging time because of it. Damien realized that she lied about being submissive, but he liked her so much he was willing to renegotiate the terms of the one month contract which meant he would train her and she had to be totally submissive, no questions asks and he would pay her in two payments which was enough to start the process for the surgery. Damien was trying to legitimize his company so that his people would not be caught up in wars between the mafia, but there was opposition to what he was trying to do. Therefore, the enemies started targeting Cassandra and he had to put security on her and her sister to keep them safe. In all of this of trying to keep her safe, Damien and Cassandra had fallen in love. Their Christmas miracle, she found out she was pregnant, but she got scared when she was targeted over and over and she decided to run in order to keep her baby safe, but the opposite happened, she was tricked into believing that her nemesis was really being a good person. Cassandra was a designer of clothes that fit women with curves and Damien made sure that she received everything that she needed and then some to start her own business. I enjoyed reading the book, but KC Crowne books always leave you reading without wanting to put your book down. I highly recommend reading The Christmas Contract, you will not be disappointed. A middle-aged man who finds love with a younger woman.

I’ll admit I was a little confused about the hospital insisting on full payment despite insurance, but I rolled with it.

Enter Damien, her new assignment, who requests a “hostess” for his Christmas party… and more. It doesn’t take long for him to realize Cassandra isn’t being entirely honest—and that she’s far more innocent than she claims.

Balanced

Well balanced with the "romance" portion and the mafia betrayals and war.
Cassandra needs money fast for her sister's heart surgery she takes a job as an escort (no sex just arm candy). Damien is a billionaire Russian who mob ties ( he is the Boss the Pakhan) trying to go clean and the old timers don't like it.
He hires her fire his party, as a server but she lied about being a professional Sub, he can tell immediately and hires her for himself instead. One month enough money for her sister's surgery, age surrenders all control and is his sub.
She agrees, they quickly fall for one another, attempts on her life are made...chaos,kidnapping, betrayal and more.
Positives good storyline.
Negative- for the sub/dom the spice was 3/5 very mild, also he doesn't stick to his rules so doesn't come off as very dominant. It almost felt like that part didn't need too be written into the story.
Spoiler ahead so stop reading...if it will upset you....

He wants to have sex bare, before he does he asks if she's on birth control. She gets sick ends up at the doctors who says surprise you're pregnant. She doesn't ask him how, she is on birth control etc. She isn't scared to tell Damien, she bluest it out in anger then gives him an ultimatum stop the war mafia stop or I'm gone.
Damien doesn't ask how she's pregnant or act passed, saying I asked if you were on birth control...nothing he just reacts to her ultimatum by begging her not to leave. Very opposite the DOM control he likes so it didn't make sense the complete about face and no shock she's pregnant.
He was clear one month only and told her don't fall in love. I expected her to hide it from fear or him to react like she lied tricked him to get pregnant.
It didn't make sense so that Dom sub part shouldn't have been written in.
Otherwise, the book was a decent mafia romance.

Have I mentioned how much I adore KC Crowne? Like really. There isn’t a story I haven’t liked yet.

If you love mafia, a little bit of kink, a sassy mouthed fmc and a hot, brooding, alpha male then you will love this book!

Just fyi triggers include kidnapping, murder, war, light bondage, spanking, and praise kink.

This is the story of Cassandra a women running on caffeine and fumes. She takes a couple of jobs as an escort but not that type, she’s basically arm candy for men who need to be seen with someone. But when a Christmas hosting contract comes up she doesn’t realize it’s not the job she thought she would have. And then she gets pulled into a world she never realized was out there.

Damien is the Pahkan. The Bratva is entering into all legit markets and some of the old guard are not happy about it. But he ignores them and decides to host his annual Christmas party. Only the girl he thought was going ghost for him is a fraud, not the experienced sub he requested. But obidence can be taught, loyalty can’t.

Now as these two worlds collide they both have to make concessions if they want a life together.

This was a hard fought love. And of course neither of them wanted to admit they were actually in love!

It was an amazing story. I love KC’s books and this is right up there with the others. It’s a shorter story at only 258 pages but it’s a full novella.

If you love the dark mafia romances then this will hit the spot for you. The ending was more hea than I had any right to hope for.

I would love to see if how Alex and Clara decide to get together if you want to write a sequel KC! I’m all in!.

Loved it. Very well written richly detailed great world building. Story was believable and true to life. Cassandra 22 sells herself for a month in order to pay for her sisters surgery or she’ll die. She lies to get hired but Damion a much older mafia pakhan is intrigued by her and sees potential so hires her. After first week Damion discovers the reason she sold herself and weirdly cares enough to take action never done before. The chemistry is explosive between them and feelings develop neither knows what to do with. Damion is turning the mafia legitimate but nit everyone is onboard and traitors try to get to him using her repeatedly putting her life in danger. Then something else happens to change everything and they must navigate the changing situation, her seeing something that upsets her and they must navigate traitors closing in. Cassandra leaves herself open to danger and is snatched. Damion will need all his power, and control to rescue the woman he’s come to love and finally stop the traitors once and for all. But not everyone may walk away when dust settles.
I liked the dynamics between them and the fact that he could have badly exploited what Cassandra had agreed to and taken advantage of her but he didn’t. He had honour and respect despite buying her body and submission. And his he treated her sister during her recovery. He felt he wasn’t a good man but his actions proved different.

ou might want to make sure to double check that you are buckled up, dangerous men, alpha’s personified, possessive, oh, gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a story consisting with three D’s (dark, delicious, and dirty) 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe even love along the way. Cass loves her sister willing to do what needs to be done to take care of her older sister right now she in debt with medical bills, her sister needs a lifesaving surgery and pretending to be a professional submissive working as an escort accepting jobs that she chooses brings in a decent amount of money until the last job that offers more money to stay with him for a month but willing to make the sacrifice. Damien sexy as all get out head of the Bratva who doesn’t do attachments he isn’t a man you want on your radar he is dangerous, ruthless on a good day, deadly every day, and when he hires the sweet submissive he tells himself she is just like all the others no attachments but for some reason she get under his skin into his heart. But when she is attacked by his enemies she runs realizing his life is dangerous maybe a little too dangerous for her but is he willing to let her get away, will he show her that he can protect her, can he succeed at making his business legit without more danger, will she face the challenges with him, what about her sister, and will they get the happiness they both seek?

it seemed like entire sections were missing at points. disjointed at best. possible spoilers.

I enjoyed the story concept, but was frustrated at how things didn’t make sense or fit or flow well. It felt like the plot was written down as bullet points and there was no connecting filler or story telling between one part to the next. There were too may not fleshed out plots and it left holes and questions. Like why one guy randomly shows up and causes issue at a hospital out of no where when he wasn’t part of their security. How did he know they were there? Why did he show up there? How is the mmc suddenly week for a women when to that guys knowledge she was a new fling? How does the guy know the mmc is serious about the fmc? Why would they allow the guy in the room when he is a suspect? And that’s an insignificant scene. It’s full of holes. It’s the same with major plot parts too. Like the arrangement is for a month, they’ve only been together maybe a few weeks, but suddenly she is 5 weeks pregnant? The math ain’t mathing for that. So the premise was good, the story was eh so so, the writing when it’s fleshed out was ok. The storyline is Swiss cheese. So if all that is a managable read, sure check out the book. Otherwise there are better mafia lite books out there with solid fleshed out story telling. This is like the cliff notes version of a book. And was really disappointing when the premise was a good one. I really don’t understand so many good reviews.

On paper, this sounds like exactly the type of story I love. Bratva romance. Surprise pregnancy. Morally grey MMC. No abuse disguised as romance. High spicy spice.

The problem is that spice is boring and lame without an emotional connection. This book was just awkward and uncomfortable to me. These people start having sex as strangers on pretty much page one. There isn't passion. It's not steamy. It's not a sexy one-night stand. It's all about control, dominance, and submission without trust, or love, or even a tangible attraction. I honestly didn't even feel like they had lust for each other.

Cassie bothered me. The fact that she lied to get the job, fine. But then he gave her a chance anyway, and she shits all over his chance by breaking his rules on the first day. She pretty much continues shitting all over him throughout the book. All the while, he is going above and beyond to make this contract, which she begged for, easier on her. Paying off her boss so she could get time off, paying for her sister's medical care. Spoiling her in every way imaginable. And she can't even hold up her end of the bargain. It felt like Cassie was taking advantage of Damien, and I didn't like it.

Anyway, I DNF'd this book at about 55%. Damien has become Cassie's bitch at this point, and I hate her.

Christmas Contract is part of the Silver Fox Series. Ms. Crowne has done it again, as with all of her books the Silver Fox Series is amazing, each one that follows is even better the the one prior an amazing author. This book is Damien and Cassandra’s story. Damien is the billionaire head of the area Bratva and he has his sights on Cassandra after she applied for and got the position for a professional submissive, even though she has no clue. But she has to get the position to help her sister Clara get the open heart surgery she has to have and insurance won’t pay anything toward it, since getting this Cassandra has to bluff her way with Damien. This story will keep you on your toes with her antics, fibs and falling head over heels for him especially since one of the main rules of the game is “Don’t Catch Feelings”! You have all the feels that go with drama, mafia life, red hot heat, plus wonderful romance. Once you begin page one, you will not want to put this down until you finish and each page is better than what you just devoured! Excellent story. A must read. I highly recommend. The Christmas Contract is a dark, intense, Bratva story that takes place during the holidays and brings together MFC Cassandra Hewitt and sliver fox MMC Damien Kozlov, Bratva Kingpin.
Cass needs money and lots of it with her older sister Clara’s medical bills and need for surgery hanging over her head.
The Velvet Ledger is an option that will bring her the funds she needs and pretending to be a professional submissive will work as long as she only accepts escort jobs.
Damien doesn’t do attachments but being with Cass begins to burn those beliefs down after he strikes a one month deal with her.
With plenty of passion, family dynamics, danger, Bratva intrigue, and suspense this well written narrative dishes out surprises, well crafted characters, and a story that will immerse the reader in it’s erotic playtime and dramatics as it speeds towards an HEA.

KC Crowne Did It Again!
Damien and Cassandra are amazing. Damien is a no non-sense alpha/Bratva captain who hires Cassandra for a month as a submissive. Needing money for her sister’s surgery, Cassandra does her best to earn his approval. During this time the two bond and become close. However, getting attacked by his enemies sends Cassandra running away from Damien, not wanting to indulge in his dangerous lifestyle. Running away doesn’t make her safe…she runs into more danger. The rescue scene alone is enough to make the book worth it. Swoon! One of the best I’ve ever read. Cassandra and Damien have a world of challenges ahead as he tries to make his businesses legit, but they are willing to face those challenges to end up together. Great scenes with just the right amount of steam. A must read.

Cassandra is running on exhaustion, fear, and love for the sister who raised her. When a Christmas contract offers the only chance to pay for a life saving heart surgery, she accepts without realizing the job means becoming the submissive of a powerful Bratva leader. Damien quickly discovers she is not what she claimed to be, but instead of turning her away, he offers her a deal that changes both their lives.

This was such an exciting and emotional read. I really liked how Cassandra is strong, stubborn, and completely unwilling to disappear into the role she pretends to play. Damien is intense, controlled, and surprisingly protective, which makes their dynamic incredibly compelling. I had a lot of fun reading this because the romance grows through conflict, danger, and genuine care. The Christmas setting adds warmth to a dark mafia world, and the ending is deeply satisfying. If you enjoy mafia romance with heart, heat, and growth, this one is a great pick.

Staccato-paced descriptive overkill

I really wanted to like this story, but just COULDN'T. The story felt lost: is it BDSM? Cinderella? Billionaire? Bratva? It was all of them and yet none. No one story arc was fleshed out enough to give it real credibility. The author was intent on giving us New York authenticity by name dropping less than iconic geography, but it added nothing to the story. Readers don't care that she went east on WXYZ street. But they will notice when a story supposedly set in NYC drops "mince pies" into the holiday rhetoric. That's a UK tradition. Not an American one.

Too many sentences that added nothing much by way of plot; just details that stop/started like holiday weekend traffic. The author's attempts at lush description fell flat and rang hollow. I had to force myself to finish this to justify the time I put into it. Would not recommend.

Damien and Cassandra's story has it all! Spice, action, suspense.

Damien throws special Christmas parties. He hires out for professional subs and Cassandra who is not a pro ends up applying for and getting offered the spot. For one month she is his to do what he pleases, no saying no and NO feelings.

Being the head of the mafia/bratva means, you guessed it, not a place that's safe for a woman that means anything. Well, someone has a vendetta against Damien and decides that Cassandra means something to him even if she's just doing a "job". Cassandra only accepted this part for the money to save her sister.

This book is full of action and suspense, along with some spice. There's angst as well but not overly heavy. Both characters have strong personalities. Damien is a very dominant MMC while Cassandra can play a good sub, she is feisty and confident too. All of this mixed in with the good writing makes for a great read!

Wonderful characters!
Damien is a great leader. He’s regimented in his leadership as well as in every aspect of his life. He is not interested in any relationship with a female except to top ‘professional’ subs. Sweet, somewhat innocent Cassandra somehow gets herself into the ‘professional sub” group at the secret sex club, where she garners Damien’s attention. Oh, he knows she’s no pro sub, but that doesn’t stop his fascination. He is very interested in her innocence and sets up a one-month contract for her to be his. In exchange, Damien will pay her a ton of money. Cassandra is in this only for the money. She’s doing this because her beloved sister, Clara, needs costly life-saving heart surgery. Damien is a wonderful guy who is there for Cassandra and her sister. Their relationship turns his world upside down.
Turmoil breaks the peace when other crime leaders decide they want to oust Damien, but he’s a formidable leader. Really good story. Linda

Breaking the Rules for Love -
This is a truly intriguing curvy girl, Bratva romance story with a sensual twist about two people who came together because of an agreement, but everything changed from the moment they had one taste of each other. The combination of drama, betrayal, sensation play, action-packed moments and the heartwarming ending kept me totally riveted and at the edge of my seat, whilst my fingers and toes were crossed at times hoping for an outcome that would bring them the happiness they deserved.

I was totally engrossed from the first page and unable to take a break until I finished reading the book. This book deserves a place at the top of your TBR list and a recommendation to anyone looking for great book to read.

She finds a way to earn money with Damian through a company, The Velvet Ledger, and tells a white lie to get in the door. Damian hires her and gives her what she wants in the contract, which will last for one month. But things dont go quite as planned, and Cassandra finds herself pulled deeper into the danger in Damian's world, with a target on her back. Contract-wise, will they stick to it, or will they find themselves falling for each other and technically breaking the terms of their contract?

When Cassandra's sister, Clara, gets sick and needs heart surgery, Cassie takes a job as an escort. She escorts wealthy men to parties etc. One client, Damien, a Bratva Pakhan , hires her for a month. Her sister need surgery fast or she will die. Not seeing another option, she agrees to the month long contract. She doesn't tell her sister or the Damien why she needs they money but he finds out and pays the balance in full.

They each begin to fall for the other. There is a Bratva war brewing and the brother of Alex, one of his soldiers and a NYC cop, attempts to kill Cassie. They have a Shoot out in a derelict warehouse. Definitely a worthy read.

Who knew that entering into a contract could change your life. This book was excellent. Brilliant characters and a plot that was both engaging and captivating.

When she needed money to get her sister an operation, Cassandra enters into a contract with Mafia boss Damien to submit totally to him for one month.

Damien comes across as a lethal, brutal mob boss but he really is over protective and caring. But Cassandra is strong, smart and knows what she wants. They have chemistry and that only grew and fast.

Danger, drama and steam in this beautiful romance. I really enjoyed these two together as all as Alex and Clara.

So well done. Such a fantastic book and can't wait for more!.

What a page turner!

Cassandra wants to save her sister Clara who is her substitute mother cause their parents died when both kids were very young. Clara is suffering from a heart condition and needs to undergo a super expensive operation. So, Cassandra starts working for the Velvet Ledger, a high end hostess service. She’s hired by Damien Kozlow as his flavor of the month, but plants may change and their relationship turns out to be way different from what Damien originally planned. 
This story is highly entertaining with loads of steamy love scenes, Bratva quarrels and many other curveballs mixed in to keep us readers turning page after page after page …. Loved it!.

What a wonderful Christmas story. I’m not usually a huge seasonal book reader, the characters tend to be cringy, but this book was so different from many of my favorite authors and did it right! Yes, Cassandra has some steel in that spine even though she’s got a lot of soft spots too. While giving up some freedom for her sister’s life threatening illness and a much needed surgery, she has no problem showing some back bone when it comes to keeping her little secret safe. Damien is scrumptious and completely satisfying. Hot, hot, hot. Enough of a threat to keep you on your toes…and enough mellow in the middle to cuddle up to. Wonderful addition to the book collection!.

Cassandra is just a new grad when she’s working in a boutique to get her foot in the fashion world, but when her sister needs an operation to live she will do anything she can to make sure she can afford it for her. Assa dead desperation led her to be employed by an escort company of sorts and she takes a job with Damien as a hostess, however, he sees her and wants her and makes a proposition with so much money she can’t refuse. The two start their arrangement and he falls for her even if he doesn’t want to admit it, but being in the Bratva puts her at risk and lots of risks there are. Lots of action, good story.
