Understanding and Redemption: Two Pride and Prejudice Novella Variations

Rate this book
These two previously published novellas have been re-edited using input from readers’ reviews.
Of Renewal and Redemption (first published in 2021) begins five years after Darcy left Netherfield with Bingley’s sisters in November of 1811. In this story there was no Hunsford proposal or any opportunity for Darcy to offer his assistance after Lydia Bennet ruined herself and her family.
Darcy and his cousin Colonel Fitzwilliam unexpectedly meet Elizabeth off the coast of France. The misunderstanding that follows leads to Elizabeth’s renewed acquaintance with Darcy and her new acquaintance with the Colonel.
After some interesting and humorous encounters with each of the men, Elizabeth at last finds her happily-ever-after, and Lydia finds redemption.

Of Uncertainty and Understanding (originally published in 2023) begins with the Hunsford proposal. This time the two protagonists respond with less vehemence and begin a more reasonable conversation. Instead of creating an untenable situation, they are able begin again as friends, and eventually, some of their family members help (as in push) them toward romance.
