Lana My life is built on survival and lies. Danger has always welcomed me with open arms, And I like to play by my own rules. Doing odd jobs and making myself unseen was my plan. One with the shadows. Invisible. A nobody. Until he comes along and takes a vow of corruption, And I might let him. Even if that means I must put my plan in jeopardy.
M I am the monster people whisper about. I kill people for a living, And I am the epitome of stealth. But the moment my eyes land on her, It’s game over. I want to chase her. Own her. Ruin her. But then my little hummingbird finds herself in danger. And I swear to destroy anyone who dares to harm what’s mine.
Going into this book, I already had a feeling I was going to enjoy it, especially since this isn’t my first time reading A.H. Monroe & it is dark romance! Still, I didn’t expect to get this hooked this quickly, what a ride this was!
The writing style immediately felt like coming home. I was at ease straight away & eased into the story like it was nothing, which made it incredibly easy to get immersed from the very beginning.
It was so exciting to watch the dynamic between M. & Lana evolve throughout the story. It took Lana some time to warm up to M., but once she saw more of him & who he truly is, she couldn’t seem to resist any longer. I also really loved how she challenged him. He seems prepared for everything, but when it comes to Lana, he actually has to step up his game from time to time, which honestly only seems to draw him in even more. Their chemistry builds in such a natural yet intense way, making every interaction between them intensely charged.
There were quite a few themes woven into the story, but self-discovery & healing from the past stood out the most to me. The self-discovery aspect really comes forward in the way the characters are forced to confront parts of themselves they’ve been avoiding, even when it adds discomfort to their lives. The healing becomes more & more visible as the story progresses, but especially toward the ending, where it’s clear that Lana still has a lot to process — something that becomes even apparent with the major cliffhanger leading into the sequel
M. will never cease to amaze me. As someone who’s read A.H. Monroe before, I already had a sense of his character from the previous books, but he still managed to surprise me. He slowly starts to open up more & more, especially toward Lana. Honestly, it's breathtaking to read about a man who would do anything for the woman he truly loves, even if it's frightening at first. He has easily become my favourite MMC in this universe.
The pacing kept me hooked at all times. I never felt bored or disconnected from the story. This was just one of those books I could keep on reading without ever wanting to put it down. As for the spice… it’s on another level entirely! Especially in the beginning, it feels like M. doesn’t really know how to express his emotions in any other way than through physical intimacy (or even violence), which adds an interesting layer to his character. The spice itself is intense & detailed in a way you don’t often see & I devoured every single moment of it. It definitely enhanced the emotional connection between M. & Lana for me. Imagining this level of intimacy has completely ruined me & I fear I might never recover…
All in all, this book completely pulled me in & didn’t let me go. But that ending… I was absolutely NOT prepared for it! It didn’t feel like a conclusion at all, but rather like a setup for something even bigger. I need the second part ASAP, because I'm not okay after this!
This book has a perfect mix of dark romance, murder mystery, and psychological twists and turns that will keep you asking yourself “what just happened?! 😳✌️”
I really enjoyed the mind bending psychological murder mystery of this story. I had predicted some things throughout but not until over halfway through the story. I wish I could say I predicted it sooner. The book ends on a wild cliffhanger that will keep you asking questions well after you’re finished.
I don’t want to say too much about the characters because I feel like I would spoil some major plot points. I will say the steamy scenes were 🥵 5/5 🌶️
Thank you to Love Notes PR for the ARC. This is my honest, voluntary review.
The Quiet Pull You Don’t See Coming
‘Hum for Me’ by A.H. Monroe doesn’t try to sweep you away from the very first page. Instead, it lingers at the edges, slowly drawing you in until you realize you’ve stopped resisting it altogether.
What makes this story stand out is the emotional restraint woven into every interaction. The characters don’t fully reveal themselves, not to each other and not to the reader. There’s a constant sense that something remains unspoken, and that silence carries just as much weight as the words they do share. It creates a quiet tension that settles deep, almost unnoticed at first, but impossible to ignore once it’s there.
The connection between them isn’t instant or overwhelming. It builds in small, fragile moments. A look that lasts a second too long. A hesitation that says more than any confession ever could. And because of that, it feels real. Almost too real at times, as if you are witnessing something that isn’t meant to be fully understood, only felt.
The pacing leans into that softness. It gives the emotions space to unfold naturally, though there are moments where a slightly tighter rhythm could have strengthened the pull. Still, the slow build works in favor of the story’s atmosphere, allowing that underlying tension to grow steadily beneath the surface.
What lingers most isn’t a dramatic climax or a single defining moment. It’s the feeling that stays behind. Quiet, persistent, and impossible to fully shake. Like something unfinished that keeps returning when you least expect it.
A story that doesn’t reach for you… but somehow never lets you go.
Forbidden feelings | Emotional slow burn | Complicated pasts | Vulnerability | Healing through love | Morally black MMC | Touch her and die | Revenge | Damsel in distress | Stalking
NOW THAT WAS FREAKING EVIL! There are no words that can describe that UTTERLY DEVASTATING AND DESPICABLE PLOT TWIST! I literally frozen in shock and stared at the wall for a couple minutes before I could do anything else. And I swear I’m really hoping the next book comes out soon or I’m going to go completely insane! I love a stalker romance, with an unhinged mmc and this book took it to the next level. Because the mouth on that man? And the way he talks about watching her through cameras all day as if it’s just a regular occurrence is just hilarious. But I also love a feminist king (or so he claims to be), and the man is ROUGH, like 6.5 inches of him down there. Back to plot, it was very typical stalker romance at first, lots of touch her and die moments with gruesomely detailed torture scenes (read at your own risk)! But I loved the way intensity built slowly at first, focusing on their relationship, but then the other side of the plot quickens and shines through, creating such an engaging book from beginning to end. The plot was amazing without a doubt, he’s obsessed, she’s running from her past, their worlds collide, and suddenly both of them are facing something much bigger than themselves. The plot twists are 10/10 incredible but horrifying, and that cliffhanger ending was insane. I loved both characters, M especially but Lara was such a fun and sassy fmc too (but near the end we realise there’s so much more to her that we have yet to discover). This book was gripping, fast paced, sometimes pretty funny and also at times quite an emotional read. Literally one of the best things I’ve read this month, I give it a 5/5
I found the beginning of this story really engaging, and it immediately drew me in with a strong setup. By the end, I also enjoyed the direction the plot took and how everything came together.
However, I personally struggled to connect with the central relationship. The chemistry between the main characters felt a bit underdeveloped, which made it harder for me to become fully invested in their journey. There were also some moments and conversations that felt slightly awkward or not entirely believable.
At times, the pacing felt uneven, with certain scenes coming across as unnecessary. I also didn’t feel very invested in the side characters.
That said, this is just my personal reading experience, and I’m sure others may connect with it differently.
Thank you to A.H. Monroe and Love Notes PR for providing me with an ARC 🖤 All opinions are my own.
I want to thank the author and the publisher for sending me this ARC read.
Ok about the book. It started off really strong and the plot was really promising. However I think the author got too caught up in trying to add so much for shock value. There were so many little tiny subplots that did tie into the main plot but they just weren’t blended together very well. The book does end on a cliffhanger and I think it would be more shocking if it was more cohesive but I was able to guess the plot twist very early on. That being said I am going to give the second book a chance when it comes out and see if the author improves any.
This book had me hooked from the start and I couldn’t put it down!
I was constantly theorizing and trying to piece the puzzle together the whole book, but wow! That ending!! What a fantastic cliff hanger that will set us up perfectly for book 2! 👏🏼
If you want a dark underworld romance about an assassin and a damsel in distress where he is head over heels obsessed with her and will do anything for her, you will love this book! 🖤
wow, A.H. Monroe is a new to me author and she is definitely up there with Sheridan Ann. omg this Dark romance is one of my favorites. it had so much that kept me reading and When I wanted to put the book down I couldn't. when I had to put the book down I couldn't not until I finished it.
First of all, I loved the writing style! It was easy to read and felt like a friend was telling me the story 😊
The plot - oh God, it really messed with my brain. I’m not kidding. The whole time I was suspicious about what would happen next and how it would end. I had so many theories, and in the end, it turned out in a way I definitely didn’t expect.
Great balance of spice - not too much and not too little. And those scenes were really unhinged - these two really found each other 😏
I was shocked by the cliffhanger, and now I have a lot of questions. I really hope the next book will give me all the answers. Can't wait for the next book!

Hum for Me is the 1st book in the Deadly Serenade series by A.H. Monroe.
This is the first book by A.H. Monroe that I have read. And even though I had never read a book by this author before I knew going into this book that I was going to enjoy this book, especially as it was a dark romance and I’m a sucker for a great dark romance. Still, what I wasn’t expecting was how quickly I was going to be pulled into this book and totally enthralled.
A.H. Monroe’s has a writing style that feels like you’re immediately coming home. From the first chapter I felt as ease and I felt like I was eased into the story like it was nothing at all. And from that moment it was so incredibly easy to get enthralled in the story and couldn’t stop reading till I read the very last word.
I was so excited to watch M & Lana grow and evolve through the story. After Lana and M met, it took some time to warm up and really open up to M., but as she got to know him, once she saw more of him and who he truly was, she realized that she couldn’t resist him any longer.
I truly loved the way that Lana challenged M. And in return M. was prepared for everything that Lana threw at him, but when he looked at Lana and it came to Lana herself, he knew that he had to step up his game, and really that just drew him in even more and it drew him to Lana all that much more. And the chemistry between M. and Lana builds up in such a beautiful and natural way that is still intense, and this makes all their interactions so intensely charged.
A.H. Monroe knitted in quite a few themes into the story, but the two themes that really stood out to me were self-discovery & healing from the past. The self-discovery theme stood out to me in the way the characters were forced to confront the parts of themselves that they’ve been avoiding, the parts of themselves they’ve been refusing to truly look at, those parts of themselves that they’ve kept pushed into the shadows, and now they’ve been forced to look at all those parts of themselves, no matter how uncomfortable it makes them or how much it adds unpleasantness to their lives.
The healing theme remains more subtle until it finally starts to become more & more visible when you get deeper into the story, especially as you get closer to the ending, and it’s there that you realize that Lana still has a lot of healing to do, a lot to process herself – and this becomes more apparent when you get to the massive cliffhanger which leads into the sequel, which I am now waiting for on pins and needles.
M. is one of those characters that will never keep from amazing me, but M. has managed to surprise me. I loved how slowly M. starts to open up to Lana more & more. I love when I can read about a man who would do anything and everything for the woman he loves with his whole heart, even when that love is frightening in the beginning. I can truly and honestly say that M. is one of my all time favorite MMCs of all time.
A.H. Monroe did an amazing job with the pacing, keeping me completely enthralled the entire time I was reading this book, there was never a single moment when I was reading this book that I felt bored or disconnected. I found that this was honestly just one of those books that I could keep on reading without wanting to put it down, I had issues wanting to put it down at night so I could get some sleep.
And I can’t review this book without talking about the spice. A.H. Monroe has given us spice that’s on a whole new level. Especially right in the beginning, it’s like M. doesn’t know how to express his emotions in any way other than through physical intimacy (or through violence), and I found that this added a rather interesting layer to M’s. character.
And the spice in and of itself is so intense & it’s detailed in this way that you don’t really see that often & I can honestly say that I ate up every single moment of it. The details helped to enhance the emotional connection between M. and Lana. And the details helped me to see and feel the level of intimacy the two of them shared and it kind of almost ruined me to a degree that I may never fully recover from.
This book totally enthralled me & it refused to let me go. It was the ending that I wasn’t ready for. And it really didn’t feel like any kind of conclusion, rather it felt like it was more of a setup for something bigger to come. Now I need the next installment because I am not OK and I don’t think I’m going to be OK till I can read the next book.
If you enjoy a blend of dark romance, murder mystery, and psychological twists and turns then this is a book that you’re not going to want to skip reading. But, make sure you read the trigger warnings. I loved this book and I can’t wait to read the next installment.
My favorite quote from this book was:
“Lana, you made my heart beat again, and I’ll be damned if anybody tries to take that away from me.”
This one felt like stepping into something dark, quiet, and a little deceptive… in the best way.
Hum For Me sits comfortably in the dark romance space, but it doesn’t quite tip into pitch black. The MMC is undeniably dangerous (morally dark, obsessive, and intense) but there are clear moments where you see the humanity underneath. It softens the edges just enough to keep him compelling without losing that edge.
And then there’s Lana.
She’s written like an open book, but the more you read, the more you start to question that. There’s this subtle sense that something isn’t lining up ... that maybe what we’re being told and what’s actually true aren’t the same thing. Whether intentional or not, it adds a layer of intrigue that keeps you paying attention.
The dynamic between them is charged from the start. There’s this push and pull between control, survival, and temptation that builds into something intense and consuming. And when it comes to the spice… it delivers. This is very much a true dark romance in that regard, with some more niche elements mixed in, so definitely check your triggers going in.
What kept this from being a full five stars for me mostly came down to the technical side. There were moments where wording or grammar pulled me out of the story, and instead of staying immersed, I found myself pausing to figure out what was meant. There were also a few instances of telling rather than showing, which softened the emotional impact in places where it could have hit even harder.
But that ending?
The plot twist and cliffhanger absolutely made up for it. I knew something was off, I could FEEL it, but I never would have guessed THAT. The misdirection was done so well that I fully bought into what the story wanted me to believe, which made the reveal land even harder.
Overall, this was a gripping, high-intensity read with a strong central dynamic and an ending that leaves you reeling. Definitely one for dark romance readers who like a little mystery woven into their obsession.
• 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬 - - dark underworld - revenge - touch her & die - hired assassin x damsel in distress - corruption arc - possessive protector - cat & mouse - morally black MMC
• 𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 - This story follows Lana, a girl who has built her whole life around survival, staying invisible, and trusting no one. She lives quietly in the shadows, doing whatever it takes to get by. Then there is him. A man people fear, a killer who lives in darkness, who notices her and decides she belongs to him. What starts as silent watching slowly turns into obsession, control, and a dangerous connection where he removes every threat in her life in his own brutal way. As Lana’s world begins to shift, she realizes she is no longer invisible. She has been chosen. I absolutely loved the dark vibe of this book. It felt intense, addictive, and so consuming from the first page. The male lead is completely unhinged and I ate that up. He is not soft, not redeemable, and not trying to be good. He owns who he is and that made his character even more powerful. The way he calls her his and moves in the shadows around her life was both chilling and weirdly captivating. Lana’s character felt real and strong in her own quiet way. Her need to survive, her fear, and her slow realization were written so well. And that ending, it was dark, bold, and stayed in my mind long after I finished. This book ends with a shocking cliffhanger and i am already waiting for book 2. This is perfect for readers who love intense dark romance with a dangerous, obsessive male lead and a story that feels more like a psychological experience than a simple romance. Thank you lovenotepr for the ARC!
Story:⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 (rounded up for rating) Spice:🌶️🌶️🌶️.5/5
This was my first book by A.H. Monroe and I was slowly pulled into this story – as bits and pieces were revealed from Lana and M, I knew we were going to be in for some shocking truths!
🖤Morally Black MMC ⛓️Hired Assāssïn x Damsel in Distress 🔥MMC Follows FMC 🖤Corrüption Arc ⛓️Revenge 🔥Touch Her and… 🖤Billionaire ⛓️Dark Underworld 🔥Power Exchange & Switch Dynamics
Lana built her life on survival and lies, trying to blend with the shadows so she remained unseen…until he came along with a vow of corruption.
M is the monster people know is lurking in the shadows, but are too afraid to try and bring to the light. When he sets his sights on Lana, nothing else matters besides his little hummingbird, and he vows to destroy anyone who dares to harm what’s his…
M is unhinged in the best of ways for dark romance readers. Obsessive? ✅ Operates on his own moral code? ✅ No issues removing obstacles in his way with methodical and intentional precision? ✅ And when it comes to Lana? He will do anything and everything for her. With Lana, you can tell that there’s more than meets the eye, and when M doesn’t allow her to stay hidden, their dynamic transforms from one-sided obsession to something more. The chemistry and tension is there between these two, but when it builds into feelings developing, there’s an added layer to their darker and possessive natures, bringing the heat. While I did see majority of the plot twists coming, I don’t know how they will play out in the next book because of that cliffhanger – so many things are left unsaid!
Thank you to Love Notes PR and the author for the ARC! All thoughts are my own!
First time reading this author and it won’t be the last to say the least. If you’ve been friends with me on Goodreads for awhile know you will know that dark romance is a genre that I predominantly read and this book was a perfect blend of dark romance elements such as st•lker, unhinged MMC, while also adding element such as murder mystery and also those plot twists that you won’t see coming.
Now let’s get into it with our characters. We have Lana and M, it was quite interesting seeing their dynamic play out through the book. Starting off for me it seemed that M only expressed his emotions in two ways and that was intimacy or along the not so peaceful way if you catch my drift. He is a man that always seems to come across prepared for every scenario but when it came to Lana he had to step up and make sure his ground was covered even further. This is what made me like Lana even further as it seemed she challenged M in many ways.
It took our FMC quite a bit to warm up to our MMC but I quite preferred this in a book rather than the instant falling element. Her chemistry with M was none other than intense and I was eating up every single moment between them and the spice? Well that was a whole new level of what I’ve read previously🤭
Without giving to much away this book kept me engaged in all aspects, usually I try to predict what can happen when it comes to these types of books but when I thought it was going to go one way it was a complete u turn. This book is a duet so there is a cliffhanger and I am absolutely itching to have book two in my hands.
Thank you so much to the author and Love Notes PR who provided this e-arc for my honest thoughts 💭
Trope - age gap, billionaire MMC, dark romance, revenge, corruption Arc, grey themes, primal play, knife and blood play, he falls first, stalking, suspense, touch her and die, morally grey, manipulation, ends on a cliffhanger
Thank you, A.H., and LoveNotesPR, for this opportunity. I thoroughly enjoyed the story of M and Lana.
Oh, the drama, the suspense—this book was top-tier! The thrill had me sitting on the edge of my seat.
A man who kills for her and protects her at all costs? Sign me up! M was incredibly smitten in a dangerous way, and I loved it.
The chemistry between M and Lana was exciting, electric, and beautifully written.
The spice in this book was spicing, because OMG it was hot in there.
Side Characters: 1. The banter between Oliver and Josh was top-notch; I absolutely loved it. They were so interesting and fun. 2. The side characters were incredibly supportive, and I thoroughly enjoyed their bond. 3. Sara, Hana, and Lana were all badass, and I love them for that. 4. Adam and Sara's relationship was so beautiful and sweet.
This book was so good that even hours/days after finishing it, scenes kept coming to mind and made more sense.
The manipulation, revenge, and suspense were gripping. Even though I saw the plot twist coming (which is usually the case for me), it was thrilling to watch it unfold.
I cannot wait to see what happens next. I hope we get a book featuring Sarah and Adam, as well as Oliver and Josh.
First of all, that ending, the cliffhanger, I LOVED IT.
When it starts, we are thrown directly into action which was exciting. Their banter was great, the plot was captivating and the chemistry between them was exciting and simply amazing. I loved how it didn't drag on, there was always something going on. Did I mention how hot it was? Because it does get really spicy in here, they left me fanning myself really. The side characters were also so amazing, they each had me intrigued, and I smell an upcoming MM.
We love a morally grey man who’s obsessed with you, and that’s exactly M. He would literally kiss the ground Lana walks on literally and figuratively.
Lana you badass of a woman. I loved how she always challenged him and kept him on his toes. She was an amazing friend, and partner to M. I can't wait for more of her in the second book.
Plus I appreciated how you could tell some parts were highly researched because the detail was amazing. And it being set in Bosnia, and the author getting all the small details correct was amazing.
Now that ending, what a wrap. I could smell that plot twist from a couple miles away, but I was still shocked. It had me feeling all giddy because it was still quite unexpected. Need book two as soon as possible because I need their reaction to the true villain. Some parts did feel a bit repeated, or just a little out and over the place. Also, it did feel like she was telling us about some scenes instead of showing.
What I loved the most was how both the characters kept themselves mysterious, only revealing bits that they wanted not only each other but us readers to know. It's building the stage perfectly for the second book which i'm so excited for!
Thank you so much to Love Notes PR and the author for kindly granting me this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
I have been sitting with this review for MONTHS and now that the publication date is right around the corner I simply must share!
Hum for me is such an incredibly written book. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and truly read this within one day as I simply couldn’t put it down. We are following M 😈 and Lana 🕊️
M is a unhinged, morally black character in which we have met before (if you have read the mayhem in Antwerp series) and boy oh boy was I so excited to be reading a book from his perspective! What M wants, M gets there is no questions about that.
Lana is a girl who has been in some pretty bad situations in her life, working multiple jobs to pay for her small apartment, long hours and honestly the worst boss in existence but she is M’s obsession and he will not stop to make her his and ensure she is safe.
Storyline: Not only is this a dark romance book however the plot and storyline had me hooked! All I am going to say is that the writing style in which A.H.Monroe was insane and she has crafted it so well. I was shocked, crying, jaw on the floor for the entire book and did I question my mental sanity after the ending? Yes, yes I did and that’s because the plot twists I couldn’t see coming from a mile away.
If you are looking for your next dark romance and love a morally black male main character then this book is definitely for you❤️
Holy hell, Hum For Me by A.H. Monroe is a dark romance gut-punch that had me SCREAMING (in the best way). M (our assassin anti-hero) is the ultimate unhinged possessive king—obsessed with Lana, his "little hummingbird," from the second their eyes lock. This man tortures stalkers, whispers filthy commands over the phone ("You are mine, and mine only. Your orgasm is mine. Say it with me, Lana. NOW."), then washes her hair tenderly post-cliffhanger sex. The duality? Chef's kiss. What Slayed Me: - M's Lines: Every word drips menace + worship An absolute swoon-city for toxic romance lovers. - Primal Heat: Phone sex → shower ambush → forest chase ending in raw claiming. The cliffhanger mid-thrust? Diabolical. - Twist Reveal: Lana's not just a diner girl; she's assassin royalty. M tests her with a rifle—loyalty on the line. - Trigger Galore (but warned): Murder, dismemberment, knife play, non-con vibes, primal play. If extreme dark = your jam? you will devour this!!!
Pacing flies through 66 chapters of violence, obsession, and that "destroy anyone who touches what's mine" energy. Ends on a BREATHLESS cliffhanger—book 2, where?! I need her NOW!
If you crave morally gray monsters who own your body + soul (à la Haunting Adeline), this is your next addiction. A.H. Monroe, you feral genius—take my money! 🔥🖤
CW: Stalking, murder, explicit kink, cliffhanger. Not for the faint-hearted. Glad I'm a cold blooded, morally-black-heart-mmc loving bish!

I had the best time reading Hum for me! It’s a delicious dark romance and if you know me, you know the darker the better hehe. Well and let me tell you, she did not disappoint me with this book.
Hum for me is one of those stories that quietly pulls you in… and then refuses to let go.
This isn’t an instant love kind of book it’s very much a slow burn, filled with forbidden feelings and characters carrying way too much from their complicated pasts. The tension lives in the little things: lingering looks, almost-confessions, and moments where you just know something more is going on but you can’t put your finger on it.
The MMC? Definitely morally grey, a little intense, and very much giving “touch her and die” energy and that’s right up my alley🧎🏼♀️ Add in a hint of revenge, some damsel in distress vibes, and just enough stalking vibes to keep things interesting and you’ve got a story that keeps you hooked OH AND DID IT KEEP ME HOOKED.
It’s emotional without being overly heavy, soft but still tense, and while the pacing is slow, it works perfectly for this story. You don’t just read it you kind of sink into it and you try to solve things in this story yourself, and that’s what keeps it interesting.
This is book one in the Deadly Serenade duet, so keep in mind this one has a open ending, AND WHAT A ENDING, I’M STILL SHOCKED
Thank you so much for the arc copy @authorahmonroe & @lovenotes.pr 🖤✨
I am obsessed. I finished this book last night and I simply couldn't wait any longer to tell you all how amazing this book will be.
To those of you with a kindle, please go pre-order this. I have already told my family and other dark romance reader friends that it is now a requirement in their life to read this, now I am telling you. A.H. Monroe has created Lana and M perfectly. Lana is our FMC and fiercely independent. M is our handsome, charming, very rich, assassin MMC and Lana's perfect opposite. The two meet after M becomes infatuated with her and protecting her, which we love.
This is book one in a duet and if book two isn't out soon I might just start begging. Full warning this book does end on a cliffhanger but I swear you want to read it anyway. If you like a bit of darkness with your romance and a plot that will keep you guessing past the final page, this is for you, if you don't, read it anyway to be honest. It's worth it.
What to expect: 🖤 Morally Black MMC 🖤 Hired Assassin x Damsel in Distress 🖤 Stalking 🖤 Corruption Arc 🖤 Revenge 🖤 Touch Her and Die 🖤 Billionaire 🖤 Dark Underworld
Thank you to A.H. Monroe and Love Notes PR for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review. To the rest of you, enjoy Lana and M. I am off to re-read it now x
Thank you for the opportunity to read this as an arc….
Unfortunately, it didn’t hit it for me. I’m usually not so picky about books I just go with the flow and I don’t like to bash on authors and their books. I did agree to give an honest review in an exchange for an arc copy though.
I love dark romances but this just didn’t do it for me. It was very fast paced, which is fine as long as it’s done right. I was not a fan of the writing style. Honestly I felt like I was being told a story by a teenager. There were a lot of things that were very repetitive and just didn’t make sense to me. I also felt like it was all over the place in some parts.
It was also insta love from the very beginning and seeing how the ending ended I get it but I just wasn’t a fan. I felt absolutely no chemistry between the MCs. There was no build up to anything really. Some of the scenes were cringey to me. But I do have to say thank you for acknowledging the average sized guys who aren’t 8+ inches 😂🤭 (average definitely works too 🤣)
I do have to say the ending about the last 25% was probably the best of the book. And the plot twist did take me by surprise. I was able to connect some dots but the ending pretty much made the whole book.
I do wish I found it as a better read but unfortunately just wasn’t for me.
I don’t even know where to start with this book because it absolutely consumed me.
From the first chapter, there’s this constant undercurrent of danger that just never lets up. Lana is such a compelling FMC—she’s not weak, she’s not clueless… she’s calculated, guarded, and used to surviving in the shadows. Watching her get pulled out of that control and into something darker (and way more dangerous) had me hooked.
And M??? Yeah… he’s not morally grey—he’s morally black and owns it. This man is unhinged in the most addictive way. The obsession, the stalking, the “touch her and die” energy? It’s intense, it’s toxic, it’s everything you sign up for in dark romance—and it delivers.
What really got me though was the dynamic between them. It’s not soft. It’s not safe. It’s a slow unraveling, a corruption arc that feels inevitable but still wrecks you as it happens. He wants to ruin her, and part of her might let him… and that tension?? Insane.
The dark underworld setting, the assassin element, the revenge—it all blends together so well without feeling overdone. Every scene feels sharp, purposeful, and just a little bit dangerous.
If you love obsessive, ruthless MMCs, high-stakes tension, and a romance that walks the line between desire and destruction… this one will have you in a chokehold.
Five stars, no question. I’m still thinking about it.
Wow Wow Wow!!! Hum For Me was my first book by A.H. Monroe and I was not disappointed! I received this book as an ARC from Love Notes PR. Hum For Me had me wanting more and by the end I ended up saying WTF! I was not expecting the ending at all!
Hum For Me takes place in Sarajevo and revolves around Lana and M. Lana is the FMC and M is the MMC. Lana works 2 jobs to support herself after coming back to town after college and her father’s disappearance. She works at a diner and a hotel. They both have low life bosses that she has to deal with daily. She lives in a run down apartment building and apartment, but she makes the best of it. One day after her shift she comes home go find the police at her building saying their was a gas leak and they can’t go in. After the police say everyone can renter the building Lana goes in and she can sense something is off. She hurry’s into her apartment after hearing footsteps coming and she puts her ear to the door to listen. She over hears two officers say he was in pieces. After the officers leave she opens her door to go to her creepy man neighbors apartment that has yellow tap on it. She breaks into the apartment and finds a very disturbing scene. Little does Lana know that this man was killed by the once person that will do anything to protect her, M.

This story was intense, chaotic in the best way, and wonderfully unhinged. Lana and M are strangely perfect for each other, and their dynamic is both fascinating and entertaining. M is a truly morally black character—dark, ruthless, and compelling to read about—and the banter between him and Lana kept me hooked.
I especially appreciated that Lana wasn’t an overly naive FMC. She felt strong, authentic, and unapologetically herself, which made her interactions with M even better.
The pacing of the reveals worked really well. Learning more about Lana’s past and finally discovering M’s real name kept my curiosity alive throughout the story. The side characters also added depth and made the world feel more alive.
Near the end, there was a brief moment where I felt like the story might be dragging a little, but then the plot twist happened at exactly the right moment—and I genuinely did not see it coming. It completely shifted everything and made the buildup worth it.
Personally, I felt that some of the nicknames were a bit cliché, but that’s just a matter of preference.
Overall, this was a gripping and entertaining read that I definitely recommend.
4 stars
My rating system ⭐️: Nope, never again. ⭐️⭐️: Not bad, not great. It was okay-ish. ⭐️⭐️⭐️: Pretty darn good! Very enjoyable! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: Fantastic! - (Loved every minute!) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: Obsessed—can’t get it out of my head!
a dark and intense story with a loveable and fuckable morally grey man who is obsessed with his prey ? COUNT.ME.IN ❤️🔥
this book felt like sweet torture. It was that kind of sweet like ✨ oh wow he sends her full outfit and make up for their first date because he knows she have nothing to wear ✨ and torture in the best way like ✨ he just f*cked her next to her boss body ✨
These two growing attachment to each other and even the moral compass doesn’t let her feel like how she truly is , he just beat it out of her . He’s such a badass assassin with that filthy mouth 👄 he’s also the one who makes you breakfast and have installed cameras in your apartment and stalks you because he want you save. Save from this cumbags of this cruel and ugly world.
also i loved that here the Bosnian culture was represented! It was refreshing to read about it and recognize some things . It was my first book from her and I really love the way she writes ! It’s like you can’t stop reading even if you want to.
a unhinged but soft MMC ? I‘m on my knees it should I say HE IS ON HIS KNEES FOR HER? Damn yes gimme more .
but oh my sweet Lana , she’s fiery and I loved everything she did. Always have something to say even when he’s a deadly assassin.
So it’s a BIG GO for this book and I hope you’ll fall in love like I did !✨😏
I was genuinely excited to start Hum For Me by A.H. Monroe, and I went into it with pretty high expectations. Unfortunately, while I did enjoy parts of the story, it ended up being a bit of a disappointment for me.
The story itself is nice and easy to read, but I personally felt like the relationship between the main characters developed a little too quickly. Considering how feared and mysterious the male lead is supposed to be, I expected more depth—especially regarding his past and the things he has done. That aspect felt somewhat underexplored, and I would have loved more detail in those darker elements.
At times, I also found myself having to push through certain parts of the book, as it didn’t fully keep my attention.
That being said, the final part of the book definitely picked up. Things started to unravel, and we finally got more insight into certain dynamics, which helped me better understand why everything between them seemed to fall into place so easily.
Overall, I felt like this book focused more on the relationship development than on the darker themes, which mostly stayed in the background. Still, it was an enjoyable read, and I do get the sense that this is more of a setup for book two.
I’m definitely curious to see where the story goes next.
Holy freaking shit, this book is really good!! At first I didn't know what to expect. There were so many names and I had to adapt to the book because it takes place in Bosnia. I learned so many new things about Bosnia, which I really love that because I love it when a fictional book teaches me new things. Something I also like is that the characters from the author's other books are friends with M.
Lana, my girl, I love you. She is really trying her best with the cards she was dealt. She's doing her best with a really bad situation. It doesn't help that she also has a stalker now, who's obsessed with her. He is determined to make her fall in love with him. She actually does fall in love with him. Now that I've finished the book I get why.
M is such a complicated character. He hates everyone but Lana. He listens to her when she sets boundaries, but when he doesn't like it he basically forces her to go against them or else he kills someone. He says that he's a feminist, but he also says that he owns Lana. It is safe to say that M is toxic, but Lana is also toxic in a different way.
This book is part one of a duet. The book ended on an epic cliffhanger. I was in shock for a couple of minutes, like with my mouth open and all that. I NEED to read part two because this book is too good!!! I have to admit that the ending was really fitting for these characters.
My favorite quote: Men, the biggest abomination on this beautiful planet.
4 star read. ARC REVIEW!! I’ve always prided myself on being completely honest when I review a book, and this one is no exception. I want to start by saying it definitely kept me intrigued—I was invested enough the entire time to keep turning pages just to see where the story was going. There was a strong mix of plot and mystery woven throughout, which I really appreciated. That being said, I did notice a few grammatical errors, and some sentences could have been restructured to help the story flow more smoothly. It pulled me out of the moment here and there, which was a little frustrating. Now, getting back to the story itself—both Lana and M were intriguing, to say the least. There were moments where I felt a bit confused, but once the story really found its footing, I absolutely flew through the rest of it. It delivered that dark, twisted energy I expect from a good dark romance, and M’s obsession with Lana? Completely on point. Even though I had my suspicions about how things might end, it still managed to catch me off guard, which I love. And honestly… I will be picking up the next book in the series because I need to see where this goes. Thank you A.H. Monroe for giving my the opportunity to read this early.
Hum for Me is dark, dangerous, and dripping with obsession the kind of romance that feels like a slow step into the shadows and realizing you don’t actually want to leave.
Lana is such a compelling heroine. She’s built herself on survival, on staying unseen and untouchable, and there’s something powerful about a character who knows how to disappear when needed. But underneath that invisibility is a woman who’s used to danger and maybe even a little drawn to it. Watching her carefully constructed world start to unravel the moment he notices her? Addictive.
And M? He is pure dark romance energy. Silent, lethal, and completely unapologetic about what he is. The moment he fixates on Lana, it’s over. That shift from detached killer to “I will burn the world for you” is exactly what makes this kind of story so satisfying. His obsession is intense, possessive, and just unhinged enough to keep things thrilling.
The dynamic between them is what really shines prey and predator, shadow and storm, both dangerous in their own ways. Lana might think she’s invisible, but to M, she’s the only thing worth seeing. And once she’s his focus? There’s no escape, only surrender or destruction.
My brain is still recovering after reading this book, it consumed me completely. From the first page, I felt pulled straight into Lana’s and M’s world. I knew I was going to love and it did not disappoint in any way. The tension between Lana and M was off the charts. Lana wasn’t some helpless girl, she challenged him, and made him earn every inch of her trust. And M was everything and more. My gosh. That man is dark, twisted, and completely unhinged, but beneath that chaos was a man who would do literally anything to protect the woman he wants. Watching their dynamic evolve was breathtaking. Every scene had me holding my breath. The writing was perfect. The story pulled me in effortlessly, but it packed punch after punch. The plot is dark, messy, and addictive. I never saw some of the twists coming, and that cliffhanger ending was brutal, someone needs to pay for therapy. On top of everything, the side characters and world-building were amazing. The underworld, the corruption, the danger, it all felt real and elevated the stakes so much. I can’t wait to read the sequel now. I need book two yesterday. Thank you so much to the author for giving me the opportunity to read the book in advance, I received this for free and I'm leaving an honest review.
